Started Doxy 4 days ago. Supposed to have been taking 100mg twice a day, did it first couple days then forgot. Started back on it today. Almost immediately after taking the dose I noticed my face was itchy. I have tons of tiny bumps all over my right cheek up into my eye area and down the jaw area as well. Other than this I feel bloated as hell, I don't know if it's related or not. The rest of my skin feels itchy on and off but I don't notice any bumps anywhere other than the right side of my face (so weird). Any thoughts on why I might be having this reaction??

Topamax may help some people, but for me it is poison and I've tried it twice! This second time around I tried it longer and went to higher dose. I'll just list the bad side effects that I had this time, although I had some of the same the first time. By the way, I took it for migraines. The first time a couple of years ago I was on 25 mg a day. Then, this time decided to try again since migraines were so bad thought I would give it another chance. I went from 25 mg to 100 mg a day slowly increasing as directed. The side effects started occurring right after the first couple of days, numbness in my hands, jaw area. Then sometimes numbness in my feet. Started to feel bloated in my stomach, waistband on pants a little tighter, and also noticed a little fluid retention in my fingers and ankles. I would forget a word here and there, or when typing, type the wrong word. Eventually it got so bad that I would sit there and think to myself, ok I know this is the right word but should I actually say it or type it? Friends thought I was in a bad mood when I wasn't. I would get very very quiet and I didn't want to leave the house. Thank goodness my husband was understanding. We knew it was the drug. And we knew I would stop taking it! Sometimes my back and sides would ache which is unusually for me, and I drank a lot of water. I lost my appetite completely but still did not lose weight at all like others say they do, if anything I think I gained in fluid retention. The skin on my ears started to burn and itch, then the skin on my face started to itch. I felt nauseous almost every day. I also felt like I was completely encased in cement, this is about the only way I can describe it. You just do not feel like yourself at all. You have that foggy brain feeling people mention. You know you don't feel like your normal self, but you feel so lousy you almost don't care. It's a scary feeling. This was all in one month, I figured I had given it a chance but that was it. Even with the warnings about seizures I quit taking it immediately. I would rather have migraines than have all of those side effects. Also I wonder what is it doing to your other vital organs if it can have those effects? For those who do not experience any of this, I'm glad, but I have to say very surprised.

Kim,
I know it is scary. I was on a different bcp before yasmin for 12 plus years and went through 2 pregnancies and NEVER have I ever felt anything this scary or nerve wracking before in my life! I know 3 weeks is not very long, but it is long enough for that stupid drug to wreak havoc. I started to feel the effects about 5 weeks of being on it, and could not figure out what was going on. It took me till month 3 to realize it was the yasmin. Yes I know about the anxiety, and I could not look in a mirror either, even though my family kept telling me I looked the same, I didnt. I lost fat in my cheeks and jaw area and my skin went from oily to dry. I felt like it drained the "life" out of my face. But it has gotten better, it takes several months for your body to balance your hormones again. Have you ever been on bcp before?
I can tell you what I think is going on. I think yasmin suppresses your testosterone and progesterone (the androgen hormones in your body) As testosterone falls or remains low I feel it causes a lot of anxiety in the body because these are the hormones that are responsible for overall sense of wellbeing, energy, muscle repair, the list goes on and on. If you want a good website to read up on these hormones, salivatest.com has good info under hormones 101, they also do saliva testing on this website which I have been doing every month since 3 months after I quit yasmin, and I have seen how out of whack my hormones are and how long it has taken to even get back to a near normal range, and it takes a while. Keep in mind though you are already almost 1 and 1 1/2 months into being off yasmin, the turn around time to when you start to feel better more days than bad is usually at 2-3 months. Remember you are not alone. The yasmin bottomed out your natural hormones to replace them with synthetic hormones and now that the synthetic hormones have stopped it is trying to replace all those "receptor sites" back with your natural hormones and that is pretty much why you are not feeling so good.
Try to eat organic (no pesticides, hormones)
Stay away from caffeine, lots of water
Take vitamins, B complex vitamins worked well for me
Rest and dont try to exercise too vigorously.
Take care and keep in touch. There are lots of caring women on this site.

I am 35 yr old female and have been on Singulair for at least 3 years, maybe 4. I stopped taking it 3 weeks ago and I am feeling better than I have in ages. I had no idea there were so many side effects until I started reading the posts here. I had read on packaging inserts about the higher incidents of Singulair causing ear and respiratory infections. I have had numerous infections in the time I have been on this med. I have also had problems with nightmares, teethgrinding, tension in the jaw area and severe headaches. Now I read that others taking Singulair are experiencing the same! The nightmares are terrifying and vivid, something that had not troubled me before. I recently found out I have elevated liver enzymes which the dr cannot figure out why. I now suspect it might be the Singulair or even the combination of taking it with Zyrtec. I really wish I could get off Zyrtec, but I sneeze non-stop and itch like crazy the three times I have tried to stop. Help!

Hi, I'm a 39 y.o. woman who was place on Yasmin to even out my hormones. According to my recent blood work, I am in the post menopausal range. I had been suffering severe hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, and memory loss; hence, the BCP. I also have hypertension, and lost about 25 pounds over two years ago. Between my weight loss, and medication my BP was controlled.

Then, I started on Yasmin. Not only did my BP shoot up, but I began having symptoms of a potassium imbalance (shortness of breath, exteme fatigue, muscle cramps, etc.) I called my gyn, and did not receive a return call. However, my internest saw me almost immediately. he switched my BP medicine, so that is controlled.

I am still having headaches and nausea on a daily basis, cramps in my feet and legs, mood swings, irritatability, shortness of breath, depression, dry skin, fatigue, and muscle pain in my back and jaw area. I also noticed that the veins in my lower left leg are prominent, almost protrubant. I also have occasion nagging localized pain in my calf muscles. Further, my libido is not reduced; it has ceased to exist!! That was one thing that had improved with the onset of menopause for me. My husband and I are NOT happy campers.

This website is great. I took my last, and I do mean my LAST yellow pill today. I start the white tomorrow. My mom died of a stroke, and I'm really unhappy that my doctor played up the benefits of this drug while omitting all of these possible side effects. Oh yeah, in a matter of days, I packed on between 7-10 pounds. I'm not eating any more than before. I think I'll call her office Tuesday, and let her know I'm quitting. Thanks for letting me know I'm neither crazy nor alone.

Help!! Has anyone experienced severe swelling of the lips? (Appears to be a type of "cheilitis" and some on-line info ties ACE inhibitors to cheilitis.) This started about 11 hours ago - Dr. treated as allergic reaction with steroid pack and antihistimine which was supposed to produce near immediate results. IT'S GETTING WORSE BY THE MINUTE!!! My lips are about to split open they're so big and the swelling has also extended to the lower jaw area.
