I had my Mirena inserted on Aug 12, 2009. The insertion was very painful. I had taken 800 mg of ibuprofen before the procedure but it didn't touch the pain. I am 40 years old and have had two children naturally with no medication, I feel like I have a high pain tolerance. I had severe cramping and bleeding for about 24 hours. Luckily my husband came with me, I would not have been able to drive home. I have spotted or bleed ever since. I don't know when I'm having a period or just spotting. I have been passing chunks of what appears to be tissue????? I have an offensive odor. I have not noticed weight gain but I am bloated and my clothes are tighter. I am am very moody and get frustrated easily, no patience. I have a lack of energy and don't have much of a desire to do any of the things I love. I have frequent headaches......Now for my major complaints.....I have tingling leg sensation down my legs with a warming sensation, I get extremely nausea. I have had extreme crapping in my abdomen which goes around to my lower back. They tend to be more on my right side. Very comparable to labor pains but with no peaking just stays intense. My breast feel like I'm breast feeding again and hurt all the time. We no longer have sex because it hurts to bad, besides I bleed all the time and stink! Wow if that dosent take the desire away! At times I feel as if I have a UTI, I believe this all contributed to the Mirena. I too called my OB/GYN and he said theses are not side effects of the Mirena.whatever! It is coming out Oct 9, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. I wish I would have researched it more. Thanks for sharing your experiencing because I felt like I was just falling apart.

I had Mirena placed March 11, 2009 after being post partum for 1 and a half months. It was great. It hurt a little and I cramped for about 48 hours after it was placed.

Now my problem: The first day of my last period was 8/19/09 (5 months into having Mirena) I haven't bled a tiny tinge since that day. So I have been without a period for nearly going on 2 months now. October 11th will be two months no period. Anyways about 4 days ago I took a pregnancy test which was negative. Today I began horribly cramping but still no period. I don't know what to do or who to turn to. I am getting this thing removed hopefully within two weeks. The nurse has to return my phone call within 3 days. Gotta love the military...ehhh I want this out now I feel like I am DYING...the pain hurts from my pelvic bones all the way up to the top of my tummy. I am nauseated and have taken all the pain medication that I can. I might go to the ER I am hurting that badly....I just feel as if I would feel better if I had a period...the pain is like labor pains. Anyone had anything like this happen before????

Wow you ladies are so right! I have had all the symptoms you all listed but my OB/GYN says it not the Mirena. What frustrates me the most is the random spotting and the cramps. I got my Mirena inserted 7/10/09 and it hurt like hell. I would not do it again. Immediately after insertion, I cramped and had severe lower back pain. I was almost in a car accident on my way back to work due to a sudden blurry vision episode. Afterwards that day I felt fatigued and cramped all afternoon. These cramps were short, sharp and uncomfortable, nothing like menstrual cramps. BTW, Im 29 and never had a baby so I don’t know what labor pains feel like. I recommend that if you do decide to get a Mirena (don't do it) take the rest of the day off after insertion and have someone drive you home to avoid any unknown side effects you might get (like the blurred vision I got). The rest of the month I spotted, had uncomfortable cramps and the lower back pain. 2nd month the back pain, cramping and spotting went away. I had a period as usual, but lighter. My 2nd checkup was after my 1st period not three mo, that’s what my doctor said and since the side effects had ceased, that is what I told my dr. All she said was that my strings had shortened and she yanked on them to make sure they weren’t too short and said everything looked ok. She asked me a question that caught me off guard that you should ask before you get your Mirena. She asked me if my bf had complained about getting poked! Because I had bee spotting all month I hadn't had any relations and said no but I should have asked her if the strings would be sharp enough to poke thru a condom or hurt the penis. NOW the OB/GYN might laugh at u but ASK! What I've learned thru this experience is that I need to do more research on things that will go into my body ad ask ask ask questions no matter how silly they might sound. Now going on to the side effects again. I’m going into my 3rd mo and I'm considering removal. My period was12 days late and I only spotted lightly that week. THEN I began to spot heavier 2 days ago. I have cramps today and am very fatigued. I'm also emotional (crying as I'm typing) almost like I'm having my period now. I'm very frustrated, my sex drive has not dropped at all but now I cant have sex because I'm spotting again. AND I fear my bf is gonna get poked! I am losing hair, but my hair has always fallen out easily so I'm not sure if that's due to Mirena. I do have some light acne on my back and face but it can be controlled by medicated creams obtained from a dermatologist (I use Tazorac and Duac for the face and Clindamycin phosphate topical lotion for the body) I get nauseous, dizzy and irritable randomly, and I even thought I was pregnant. Another thing I didn’t like my doctor telling me was that you cant be sure if its effective as a contraceptive, just have sex and if you don’t get preg then it works. What? Also I asked about how one can determine about it being embedded and she said that you couldn’t know until you have it removed. If it doesn’t come out easily then it might be embedded. What? I'm imagining a painful bloody extraction, which is the only reason I haven’t taken it out. But thanx to this website and you ladies, I'm feeling better about getting it taken out. I think that as long as its not embedded, there shouldn’t be any complications. Finally the last side effect that frustrates me is the weight gain. I have gained probably 10lbs and lots on the midsection. I'm not joking when I say I LOOK preg. AH! Yes I agree with one blogger below when she says that we should get together and formally sue. Good luck to you women who decide this is what you want and congrats to the women who actually like it. But I pray for all of us who are not taking well to it even if our doctors don’t believe its Mirena causing us all this grief. Now I have to consider my birth control options again, not happy about that. If you can tell me about BC that isn’t the pill or a tubal ligation or Essure, please let me know. Also feel free to ask me question about any of my comments. I will try to help as much as I can.

Hello,
I also had Mirena for a few months and did not like it. I experienced cramping comparable to labor pains, weight gain, mood swings, oily hair, hair loss, anxiety, felt depressed most of the time, and also zero sex drive. Since I had it removed I have experienced the heavy bleeding, and clear watery and stretchy discharge kind of when your ovulating so I'm not sure if I am ovulating or if it's just hormonal changes. I however don't like it. I also had mood swings after having it removed. It's been two months since I had it removed and I feel a lot better than when I was using Mirena.

Omg.... I've had the mirena for a few months now and have a lot of the same side effects as a lot of the other women that have posted. I had a bad rash on my face and I thought it was acne at first and I had no clue it was caused by the mirena at first until it got so bad I went to the dermatologist and he told me that is what is causing it and he said they have at least 1-3 girls coming into their office weekly with the same problem. Since then I have made my appointment with my OB/GYN to get it removed. It is just not worth it.

PLEASE READ BEFORE GETTING MIRENA.....I recently had my second child (which was unplanned) so i was all for it when my doctor told me about Mirena. She talked this big game telling me how great it was and it was perfect for a person like me, so i had it put in at my 6 week check up. To start, it kinda fells like mild to moderate labor pains when they put it in. Not even 2 days later i started experiencing swelling all over my body most of it was in my feet and legs, kinda like when your pregnant except i never had that with either of my children. I have constant pain in my back, hips, and feet. Weird fleshy discharge. I feel like you should when your on your monthly cycle with the bleeding, tired, crampy and hungry except its not just once a month, its been this whole time. I've gained 10-12 lbs in 2 months. I HATE it!.. To top it off it took me THREE requests to finally get them to agree to take it out and it comes out next week...They like to tell you they hardly ever have anybody get it removed but thats because you have to fight with them tooth and nail. It might actually be wonderful for some people but NOT for me!.....So warning to all other women out there BE WARE because i know i'm not the only one...

I am 39 and started taking Loestrin because of a heavy period which I thought was a miscarriage. I have been taking it for 1 month now and woke up yesterday morning with severe back pain and cramps going down my thighs. I was unable to move all day and took more Ibuprofen than I should have. I have had cramps and bloating the whole month and have been taking the brown pills for 4 days now and just started bleeding today. I am unable to function normally with the back pain and my boyfriend wants to take me to the emergency room. Has anyone else had severe back pain? I have had 2 kids and it actually felt like I was having back labor pains. It was that bad. Please let me know.

Started taking Levaquin Friday afternoon for a bad UTI. That night I had trouble sleeping. The next day I woke up with horrible pain in my mid and lower back and in the backs and sides of my legs. My right ankle was also in a lot of pain. I took 4 doses. By now I am completely miserable. My stomach hurts and I'm bloated and quite nauseated. The pain in my back and legs feel much like labor pains. Today the back of my knees and down my calves hurt. It's hard to explain the agitation feeling I'm having. I feel miserable. I looked up side effects today and realized it's the Levaquin. Good grief, why don't they tell people this?? I cannot wait for these side-effects to be gone.

They are switching me to yet another anti-biotic which I start tomorrow with much apprehension! But, my cultures came back very high and I will need to continue on something for another week.

I just had my Mirena placed on 6/8 and have already started to feel the effects that others are describing. I got engaged on 6/5 and have noticed that I feel depressed and have seemed to lost all excitement about it. My fiance keeps asking me what is wrong, because I am not myself - now I think I know why! I am constantly tired now - nothing has changed to my routine except the Mirena and I didn't used to be this way before. I have had brown discharge and cramping since the day it was put in. The first day I felt like I was having labor pains - VERY SEVERE pain! It hasn't been as severe, but I have to take 2 Aleve every morning for my cramps. I have only had sex once since I had it put in because it is very painful afterwards and I cramp/bleed...not exactly something to look forward to! I have no sex drive, because I am worried about bleeding or having the brown discharge during as well as immediately after. I have noticed breakouts on my chest & back as well. Oh - and my hair is normally slightly oily, but it has been out of control oily starting last week. I have also gained a couple of pounds in the last two weeks and that is after I started my diet back up again last week. I don't feel like myself at all - I have extremely irritable - like I have constant PMS. I was hoping to just deal with it and work through it, but after reading these stories I really think I just want to make an appt to get it out before it gets worse! I don't want to keep feeling like I am in a fog & on the verge of depression!

Thank you so much for all your posts guys!! I just googled Mirena side effects today just trying to check ANYTHING that would explain my recent experiences. I sat her bawling while calling my doctor to insist it's removed immediately.

I had it inserted in December after having baby #3 in October. I finally got my girl after 2 boys and a few miscarriages and wasn't certain what to expect. I am only 25 and didn't want something permanent or really any drugs put into me on a consistent basis. When the doctor pushed Mirena I happily said okay! Sounded like a god send. I have extremely high blood pressure and his strong sale point would be that it would remove the need for meds. Liar! My regular doctor flipped out when she found that he had removed me and of course, I went back on meds a few weeks after having it inserted, after 4 readings 200+/110+... amazing he didn't cause me a stroke. That should have been red flag #1 but I figured it was just an error in judgment on his part.

I felt no pain with it going in and didn't cramp at all.. spotted for a few hours then it was over.. My first cycle lasted 2 1/2 weeks and the next started a week later.. All side effects I was warned of so didn't really concern myself.

I started having phantom kicks (uterus contractions) and stabbing labor pains back in February which I figure was it doing its job trying to get my system on track. I had numbness and pain down my left side and would constantly find myself hunched over in pain.. The bleeding had slowed down so much that I was so grateful and just kept popping pain pills like candy hoping it would go away soon.

These last few days have been a flu from hell. Can't leave bed, can't speak, constantly throwing up, loose stools followed by extreme constipation, achy muscle tingling skin.. you name it!! Went to the bathroom earlier and when I wiped, had a small bout of black blood.. Old blood that sometimes you will find at the end of your cycle! I checked the calendar and had indeed finally skipped a cycle.. The cramps and pains have been there as though I was going to start, but no bleeding for a week now.. So apparently to skip a cycle I'm going to be bed ridden with the flu.. I have a 5 year old, a 2 year old and a 7 month old who can't have mommy sick. This has been hell..

I too have experienced
terrible headaches, stomach pains, DEPRESSION, short fused tantrums, sitting and crying for hours on end, no passion for life, numbness of limbs, tingling skin, sinus infections, yeast infections, temporary blindness and now spots in my eyes which aren't regaining vision, 5 months ago I dyed my hair and it came out by the chunks, now that the dye is gone, I'm still losing hair and have bawling spots which I blamed on the dye.. Now I wonder..I also look like I'm about 6 months pregnant and people keep asking.. I HATE IT!! its been devastating to my self esteem. I lost so much weight after my boys so I blamed the weight gain on having a girl.. Now I wonder about that too.. The weight is only about 10 pounds but ALL in my belly..

I wonder so much..

I got about 5 posts into this horrified before I called to insist it will come out.. I have to wait 4 weeks.. but I can't wait to find me again.. I'm gonna just stick with condoms until I get my body back.

Thank you so much for speaking out on this.. I know the doctor is going to insist that it's not to blame.. but I now know better.. Thank you so much for helping me find answers.

I had ankle surgery in March 2009. After several weeks of pain and inflammation, my doctor prescribed a Prednisone dose-pak to "settle everything down." Yesterday, day 1, I took 2 pills before breakfast, 1 after lunch, and 1 after supper. About 4 - 4 1/2 hours after taking my supper dose, I developed SEVERE abdominal pain (akin to labor pains) and diarrhea that lasted for several hours. The pain abated during the night and today I have had very sore abdominal muscles and a little bit of an upset stomach. I never took the bedtime dose

I don't care how much pain I have had in my ankle...nothing compares to the pain I experienced last night. I will never take this medicine again. According to all the information I have read about side effects, nothing indicated I would experience pain like this.

I am hopeful that now the stomach/abdominal pain "settles down."

I had Mirena inserted earlier today. My gyno told me that it would just be a little pinch and crampy when it was put in. I am 18 and have never had a baby, I do not know what labor pains feel like. But that insertion was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I screamed out profanities, which I never do. I got a stomach and head ache due to the pain and came home from the doctor and cried. Its been about 12 hours now and its finally calming down. Oh, well it will last 5 years so I hope that is was worth it.

Ive had my mirena in for 10 months. No problems at first. Light spotting no periods which i loved. I have very dry skin and have never had issues with acne but I have minor acne now, even my friends noticed my great completion was gone. I still wanted to keep it in regardless of this small skin flaw up until about 2 months ago. I would get dizzy spells. Then they would go away. I started getting anxiety, horrible which is something else ive never experienced! I feel like im outside of my body im so dizzy, cant drive have missed work and feel helpless. so glad others blog about there experience. im obviously not the only one! Its not worth it, Im getting it removed tomorrow which cost $160. Getting it inserted wasn't painful at all so im hope this wont be either. Its done in office. All i want to do is be me again. This thing is being rejected by my body and must go. However on the flip side my best friend has the mirena as well and had no side effects. It just depends on your body. All i wanted was to be sure i wouldn't get pregnant but id rather endure labor pains than feel like my life is spinning out of control and i don't even know who i am anymore? Good luck to all. Hope i helped you :)

I have had Mirena for 7 months now and when i first had it inserted it was the most painful thing i have ever felt i mean worst than my labor pains and i had a natural child birth. After about 45min the pain slowed down put was still feeling bad for a few days. The next few months were grate i hadn't felt any pain. But recently i had a period and its been going on for two weeks now and it keeps getting heavier i thought it was just a side effect but i was doing some research on people with this form of birth control turns out quite of bit of people get pregnant with the Mirena. So now I'm thinking that I'm having a miscarriage. I thought i was pregnant be for the bleeding started then i just figured i was just having my period but this 2 weeks none stop bleeding is starting to worry me so I'm going to get this checked out.even if i am fine i am still having this removed i cant handle these crazy side affects. And if you are having problems with this as well i would strongly recommend you have yours taken out as well you never know when something like this can be bad for your health and you shouldn't risk it..

But if you enjoy your Mirena i wish you the best of luck..

I had Mirena inserted March 2007...That day I had terrible cramps, alot of bleeding, and a migraine as soon as insertion was complete which was awful by the way...That week I was miserable with the same symptoms I had cramps like labor pains, back pains...It was terrible...Within a few months I loved Mirena I had light periods, no cramps...Then April 2008 came I stopped having a period at all,I was slowly gaining weight, I had migraines, and just felt irritated all the time....I put up with all the side effects for 1 year: I have gained 40 lbs in 2 years, my blood pressure is always high, I have migraines about 2-3 times a month, I'm growing a beard(i"m so not joking) and basically with all this I'm still like sex addict...I could have sex 10 times a day....This just isn't me....So, I made an appointment to have it removed...I was scared about the removal...This was the easiest part....I couldn't even feel it...I am so happy I got it removed...I am going natural from here on out...I don't think any birth control is good for you unless its a male condom....

I had Mirena inserted in 2007 due to a lack of tolerance to birth control pills. The experience was very painful for me. However, the doctor explained that the initial insertion process is different for every woman as we are not all designed the same. My cervix/uterus is oddly positioned. According to the doctor they are "crooked". As a result, the doctor had a difficult time properly inserting the mirena, which in turn resulted in major pain! But, this was just my personal experience. Not every woman will encounter this difficulty. However, I would recommend taking at least 2 ibuprofen before the procedure. Throughout the past 2 years, I have experienced a range of symptoms. Major depression, severe mood swings, acne, lack of energy, excruciating lower back pain which mocked mild labor pains, and the overall inability to function normally. I begged the Doctor to remove the Mirena 6 months ago, but she convinced me otherwise considering I cannot tolerate birth control pills either. Nevertheless, I am 35 years old, have one child already, and do not plan on having more. Well, last week, I was basically confined to my bed due to excruciating lower back pain, and severe bleeding. I called the Doctor, and they finally saw me today. I insisted on having the Mirena removed once and for all, and already feel 100% better just 12 hours later! The purpose of my message is not to discourage anyone, as we all have different levels of tolerance when it comes to pain, medications, etc.....Yet, I felt compelled to share my personal experience as it was not a positive one for me! The only "positive" symptom I obtained from the Mirena was a lack of periods. Unfortunately, there was a downfall to that as well. Due to a lack of a regular menstrual cycle, I felt extremely bloated, and had difficulty losing weight despite working out 5 days a week, and eating a proper diet. I sympathize with each and every one of you, and appreciate your efforts in sharing your experiences. Upon stumbling upon this website a few days ago, I finally found the courage to have this thing removed so I can once again "feel normal!" Good luck to all of you!

I am a mom of three, the youngest is only 5 months and have always thought that the IUD was not a method for me. After much reading, discussing with my friends that tried Mirena or Paraguard, and trying to take birth control pills after 7 years of using natural family planning, I decided that Mirena was probably the best option for someone as busy and preoccupied as me. I only had mirena inserted yesterday and have already made an appointment to have it taken out tomorrow. The insertion was painful but the cramping and discomfort the hour immediately after the insertion approached labor pains. Today I have peritoneal pain, and I feel pressure upon sitting or moving. The bleeding has stopped but I have a weird mucus like discharge unlike anything I have ever seen before. I did experience nausea today but I can not definitively attribute it to Mirena. I really hope that it has not perforated my uterus, which I have now learned is more likely among lactating women. I also only just saw that depression was a possible side effect and being the working mom of 3 children under 4 already have enough tiredness and mood swings to pass around.

I am home right now (called into work) because of the severe abdominal cramps I am having since I stopped taking NuvaRing. It was so bad yesterday (sunday) my husband wanted to take me to the emergency room. I'm not currently menstruating, it's actually about a week before, though my periods have always been wonky, even with the birth control helping me tell it when to start, so I'm not really expecting it to show up. I seriously thought I was having a miscarriage last night, because I've had a child and labor pains didn't hurt as bad I hurt last night. The pain started at the top of my pelvic bone (around the ovaries) and moved up through my entire abdomen to my diaphragm. I'm so glad I found this webiste, because I actually thought something was really wrong with me. My belly feels swollen and walking is still a hassle through the soreness, but I think I can survive now. Also, the overeating - I was having that problem too right before my periods when I was on the ring, and while not a work out freak, I was always very conscious of maintaining my weight. It was like I was a bottomless Pit. I was on lexapro at the same time that I started the Nuvaring 2 1/2 years ago and between the two medicines, I gained 30 pounds. Now, since stopping the lexapro and starting the south beach diet, I've lost about 1/2 of that, so now that I've stopped the ring as well, I'm hoping I can lose the other 15, as easily as I lost weight before I started this medicine. All of the depression and moodiness - the loss of ability to concentrate. I thought all of that was just the PTSD I was experiencing (over something I won't go into here), but now I realize that if it was PTSD, then the NuvaRing wasn't helping. I hope this pain doesn't continue and I hope I can get back to normal. My problems with focusing have actually increased since I stopped, but I really hope that I can go back to normal soon. I'd rather have my irregular three or four day periods sometime between 28 and 37 days apart, and feel like I have my life back than the convenience that the NuvaRing presented. I think it's time to buy out some stock in Trojan. Thanks ladies for sharing your stories, I've really been helped here.

I am going to have my Mirena moved tomorrow and I am sooooooooooooo ready to get it out. I have not had a sex drive AT ALL. My period has been on for about 2 months now no-stop with spotting. I got it in Nov of 2007 I was excited b/c I didn't have to pop a pill. But getting the IUD was the worse decision I think I have ever made. I just want to get it out and start bck on bc pills b/c I don't want anything else that has to be inserted in me or anything that I have to insert myself. I have been constantly tired regardless of how many energy drinks I have and despite how many vitamins I take. Please do your research before having the iud placed. My husband is excited that I am getting it out b/c he said maybe he can actually get some loving without me saying "I'm still on my period" lol. It is constant spotting. I have had a million bacteria infections from it. It did work wonders for my menstrual cramps tough. Before the iud my cramps with my cycle were like labor pains but with the iud they were very mild. So I am not looking forward to having severe cramps again but I am excited that maybe I can be horny again.....lol!!!!!!!!! I found this website by doing a google search. I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me having these problems but now I see it's most women who have it inserted. So I am going through with my decision 100%. I will leave a update in a month after I see if things get back to normal.

Hi. I've had the Mirena birth control for a little over a year now, and nothing but pain, confusion, and utter hell has come from it. I haven't had a period since the day my doctor put it in! I guess that is considered a blessing by most women but it concerns me. I have been diagnosed with not 1, not 2, but 3 Pelvic Inflamatory Infections since it's placement last year. The pain associated with this type of infection is excoriating. It quite literally feels like labor pains. I had contractions, which my doctor told me was just my uterus trying to push out the infection. But these didn't feel like regular contractions. There was no 1, 2 or 3 minute pause between them. It was an almost constant pain, only letting up for 1or 2 seconds and then continuing. I also had large amounts of yellowish discharge, moderate lower back pain, nausea and extreme headaches. I have scheduled a doctors appointment tomorrow to have it removed. GOOD RIDDANCE, I SAY! I have also had notable fluxuations in my mood and appetite. I have developed more acne on my face in the last year than I have ever had in my entire life! These symptoms seem almost constant and never seem to go away for more that a day or two. I too was told by my doctor that the symptoms would be minimal and that i was a perfect candidate for this particular contraceptive. Looking at all of these comments and side effects of other women posted here, I'de say that there are more women who have mirena and are having more than one complication out of it FAR out-weigh the women who have had no side effects. In my personal opinion i think that Mirena should be taken OFF the market and reviewed close and carefully again before putting back on the market to reek more havoc on general female population.

I am 23 years old and I had Mirena inserted November 18, 2007, about 5 months after the birth of my second daughter. I have had it in a little over a year now, and I hate it. It's actually funny cause as I sit and type this message, I am having overwhelming cramps, that like someone else stated in this article, are comparable to labor pains. Right around November of 2008 I started having severe back pain from out of nowhere. After numerous visits to the E.R. I finally got my doctor to send me to a specialist, and I am now taking a muscle relaxer, along with an anti-inflammatory. I also have diarrhea, along with vaginal discharge that has been non-stop since I got this thing. Along with the numerous bacterial infections that I have had, I went to see my doctor about 2 months ago, and I had a pap-smear done. The doctor informed me that my pap was abnormal, and then proceeded to send me to yet another specialist. I go to that appointment next week and I fully plan on having Mirena removed. Last but not least of my problems, I also have no sex drive. Best wishes to any one who has it, and experiences no side effects, but for me I have never had so many health issues until I had this thing put in. I would not recommend Mirena to anyone!!!

Hi! I am 23 with two kids. I got pregnant with both of them b/c we were just using condoms and slipped up a couple of times. I chose the Mirena IUC because i didn't want anymore surprises! I have had it for about 14 months, since Aug. of 2007. I had it inserted 7 weeks pp. I was informed by my doc that there would be some cramping that would minimize and probably be gone over time. I knew that there were some serious side effects also, but i was lead to believe that they were very very rare. So, ive had many things going on in my body that, as most of you did, i contributed it to being older and my body changing after having two kids (16m apart!). Some of my symptoms have been, sharp, piercing pains on either side of my pelvic region (i assume thats my ovaries), and also dull, cramping that comes on slowly and intensifies and radiates to my lower back. Almost as bad as labor pains. My stomach is always bloated, i too look like i am about 4 months pregnant. I am extremely fatigued all the time. I can't sleep at night. I wake up with night sweats and even when i do sleep i am still tired. I haven't gained any weight, but i haven't lost any, seeing as how i was only 7 weeks pp when i had it inserted i am still not back to my normal weight. I have gone to the gym every day for months and took up running which i hate, only to see no results! My hair is falling out in the shower and when i brush my hair. I thought this happened because i stopped my prenatal vitamin because it happened with my first son, but i'm still losing hair. I have terrible headaches. I probably get one or two a month. I use to have maybe one or two a year. I am very anxious and nervous all the time. Sometimes more than others. I have always been worried about germs but now i tend to go overboard. I know i'm doing it but i can't help myself. I have really bad mood swings and i realize it when they're coming too but its so overwhelming i just have outbursts! I have very frequent yeast infections and i had never had one before. For a long time i didn't know what was going on. I have a lot of discharge also very irritating! I have absolutely no libido. My poor husband begs me and then i cringe the whole time. I've never been like that before. Anyway, when i came across the website and read all of these posts that were exactly what i was going through i knew it was the Mirena! I called my doc. and i'm having it removed on the 26th! I cannot wait! I am so excited that i can look forward to feeling myself once again after thinking this was the way it was for so long. I am just sad that for 14 months i've lived my life in a fog, and not been as excited about life as i could have been. By the way, i know a lot of you guys are going to be looking for other birth control whenever you get this one taken out, but make sure you read some reviews on it too because i thought about yaz and nuvaring, but they seem to have reviews that are almost as bad. I want to be me! The way i felt when i was 19 before i ever had kids. I want to have fun! I say NO to any extra hormone running through my body. The condom will have to do for me, and my husband and i have vowed to use it the way we were suppose to be the other times we got pregnant. If i do get pregnant, its is what the Lord had planned for me and my family and i'll look at it as a blessing. Besides being pregnant is way better than feeling like this.

Hello All,
I am a 40 year old woman and I have had the mirena iud insert for at least 5 years. My doctor asked if I would like to try this iud because of the heavy bleeding. So..of course I told him yes I would like to try it(especially when I knew that I would not have to worry about taking the pill everyday). I asked the doctor right before he inserted this device if it would hurt. He said no, it would take less than 5 minutes to put it in. I heard a snap, and then the pain in my abdomen was so great, I thought I would fall against the wall on my way out. I almost pulled over on the highway on my way back home because the pain was so great. It felt like labor pains. I decided that my body just needed to adjust. I have experienced depression, the worst anxiety, severe cramps, some hair loss right above my forehead, crazy moodiness, weight gain constipation(I sit on the toilet for at least an hour.)headaches, unreasonable crying at least once a month, fogginess, gas, pain traveling from both sides of my uterus and around to both sides of my lower back. Some days I wanted to just die. I was so afraid to go to the doctor to remove it because of the experience getting it put in. Having intercourse was another issue. When I felt myself even getting in the mood, I would start cramping. I would ignore it because I didn't want to disappoint my mate. He would hit the threads of the iuc sometimes and he said it would hurt him. He somehow learned to maneuver some type of way to keep from sticking himself and after intercourse I would get the worst cramps. At times the pain was so severe, I would call off from work and sometimes had to leave work. My skin on my face looks terrible. I have always been complimented for my skin but now it looks a sight to me. I do get acne on my back from time to time and I experience breast soreness. One night this week, my cramps were so severe I didn't know how much more I could take. When I went to the bathroom to check it out, the blood was bright red and not like a period. More like something was torn. For the last couple of days the blood looks like a rusty brown color and it smells like metal. I am so afraid to have sex and I am still getting cramps. All I find myself doing is lying down because I am always tired. I am very afraid of this whole thing. It has been a total nightmare. I am glad I came across this website. I did not realize so many women are having some of the same problems that I am having with this device. I don't even want to be alone when they take it out. My mate says that he would be there with me if I want to get it removed but my anxiety is so great. I am terrified!! I can't believe I let all of this time go by thinking that my body would adjust to it. Thank you all for sharing your information. I am about to embark on the journey to have it removed. Wish me luck and I pray for all of you who have felt my pain. I would not recommend this device to anyone. I am glad that I have 3 daughters already so I don't have the worry about not being able to have children. Thank you all for your responses, it has given me(finally)the motivation(which I have not had)to get rid of this iuc.

I get some stomach cramping from the Z-Pak, but the most disturbing side effect would be the chest pain. I have swollen glands right now and I had vertigo and the doctor told me it was probably a bacterial infection because the gland under my chin is the one that is swollen. Every time I take this medication the side effects are different. I also had the agitation the last time I took Z-Pak. Sometimes I have had the lose bowels, especially after taking the two pills together the first day. Well, I guess it is better than having an infection so I will continue to take it. There are other medications that are worse for me. At least I am not getting a rash and I cannot take penicillin.
