MIRENA is the worst thing EVER!!!!!!
I got Mirena as my husband and I were lacking in the sexual side of our relationship because we both HATE using condoms.I have a 31/2 year old son and we have decided that for now we are happy and would like if we didn't have anymore children right now so I talked to my doctor about Mirena.
Let me start by saying that my labor 6 hours with NO pain meds was nothing compared to the pain I had when they put it in. Then the bleeding started right away I was bleeding for 8 weeks then had 1 week free and now have been bleeding for about 8 weeks. I had 2 ultrasounds to make sure it was in proper and everything was "fine" my doctor says everyone's body reacts different.
The symptoms I have are Occasional Cramping,
Sever bleeding,
headaches,
irritation in my legs (same symptoms as RLS),
Depression,
no sex drive,
back pain
Weight Gain (17lbs in 2 weeks)
and the weirdest symptom is hard to explain but its the same feeling in my body as if you were to touch a 9volt battery to your tongue! Every now and then I have little shocks and its so annoying. I have had mine in for 17 weeks and I have an appointment in 8 days to have it removed...Back to condoms it is

Hi I got the mirena April 16th 09, I had heavy bleeding for the first month then light bleeding for another month then it stopped! I found my moods eased a little bit and I wasn't so angry all the time. It's now late July, I have started having constant headaches, cramping and the worst symptoms of getting your period it felt like labor with pain down my leg and back ache, I also felt nausea. I was worried I might have ectopic pregnancy so I rang gyny on a Saturday ($200) to check it out and found I had a burst cyst (from mirena) but he didn't tell me that. Then I have been having pain in chest and feeling stressed more often this doctor called me a hypocondriac in little words. I think it's the mirena cause I have never felt like this before.
oh and my sex drive has virtually disappeared. other than that, if you don't want kids than get one thats all it's good for!

I got mirena few weeks ago. Had the normal cramps for first 24 hours. Was ok for few days, then severe pains in lower back and stomach. Read up on mirena and found that this can be normal. Put up with pain and really heavy bleeding for 6 days. The pain was worse than labor. Finally i couldn't take anymore. Knew that this could not be normal. Went to casualty and got it removed. Was told it had moved and that is why i had so much pain. Have never looked back. TALK ABOUT INSTANT RELIEF! Never again!

My Mirena has actually gone through my uterus wall and attached to my intestines, after experiencing server cramping (worst than labor) and going back and forth to the doctor they couldn't find the Mirena and had to x-ray to discover it was in my intestines, this explained the excoriating pain i had as i am sure it is quite a big task for the Mirena to work its way through my uterus wall!. I was going to get it removed but the specialist said that it was more risky to take out than leave in. I used to get sever migraines until they found out the mirena was no longer in my uterus so i had to go back on the pill and this has stopped the migraines, however i am constantly still experiencing headaches, lower back pain, server anxiety, panic attacks, tiredness, feel sick and unwell a lot of the time. After discovering this site I am so getting this thing removed and hopefully will be able to get back to my normal self.

I had the mirena placed about 2 months ago, a year after my daughter was born. i was ready to start dating again and i figured this was a safe second protection for me. 2-3 weeks later i had a yeast infection, i've never had a yeast infection in my life, i'm 29yrs old. I was so scared i thought i had an STD. I scheduled an apt ASAP with my primary care Dr. yes it was a yeast infection but i did not think it was the mirena. After that my "girl" hasn't been the same. ive had this slight burning sensation all the time. my "girl" is swollen and irritated and i now have another yeast infection. I became concerned and started to research yeast infection and came across this site and instantly I knew what was wrong. i'm getting this thing out my body instantly. I'm also hypothyroid because of thyroidectomy surgery and thought my new symptoms were because my synthroid doses were being adjusted once again but now it seems the mirena is also to blame. Either way i'm getting the mirena out because of the yeast infection alone. this is making me crazy.

hi.
i am so glad i have found this site. i was trying to make a decision wether to have my mirena coil taken out as i have had it in nearly three years and all the symptoms i have been having i thought it was me,
stomach ache, forgetfulness, sore boobs, depression, anxiety, moodiness, oh need i go on...
well i had my coil in 1st time around 5 years ago( about) and i thought it was great because i have unbearable heavy periods i cant go anywhere, well they went to nil, which i was very happy about, then i got pregnant.....had to make the decision of wether to risk having the coil out or leaving in either way can cause miscarriage, i had it taken out very carefully by a wonderful doctor.
my daughter is now three which i call my miracle baby.
i had it put in again because of my periods.. and even tho i don't have them i am regretting it cause im suffering so bad, Monday im having it out and looking forward to getting my body back to normal,,, i do however need a contraception, for my periods and obviously i don't want to get pregnant right now. so i don't know what to choose... i had the pill in the past got pregnant with my son!!!! so what d i do?> ill report back Monday when i have had it out (hopefully)thanks to everyones stories they have really helped me at least i know why im a moody cow

I had Mirena inserted 3 weeks ago. Since then, I have a strange fluttering in the center of my chest and mild pain when I breathe. I also feel nervous at times when I'm resting. I am considering getting Mirena removed.

I have been using The Nuvaring for 2 months now, 3 days ago I removed the second ring, and it will be my last!
I have been bent over with chronic lower back pain for 4 days now, the only time that I have felt such pain is when I was in labor 11 years ago!
I am very concerned and in pain and will be going to the hospital tomorrow if I see no improvement. I am 31 years old and I do smoke. I also have a rash that is very itchy on my neck this has been troubling me for 6 weeks now!

I was really worried after I had the Mirena fitted on 14th Feb....great Valentines night that was...not!!! The fitting was excruciating, but that was nothing compared to the cramps afterwards! I felt like I was in labor!! The weird thing is I haven't had any bleeding with it that I expected. I am still getting period type pain but then last night I got abdominal pain in my left side which then seemed to travel down my thigh. Has anyone else has that? My husband and I haven't even had sex yet as I've been in too much pain, but as yet I haven't noticed a reduced libido, as I still want to!!!
The other thing that worries me is that the threads appear to be getting shorter, as though they are disappearing into my cervix!
I'm hoping that I don't get as many of the symptoms that others of you have, as I previously took cerazette, which contained the same hormone as in the Mirena, so hopefully I'm used to it by now.
Here's hoping!!!

Did anybody suffer from a skin rash post labor??? This is my second labor, and after both labors were induced 2-4 months after the labor I found myself with an unexplained skin reaction which resembles Herpes Zoster and the urticaria. Dermatologists could not find the cause and I am currently on Prednisone to control symptoms. The only link could be the drugs given in hospital.

Hi Ladies,
I was not aware that there was so many side effects, I had terrible pain having it inserted as most of you did, cramping for the first month after and then nothing till this morning when I woke up and felt like I was in labor I could barely move I had 2 Panadol which had no effect so I had a hot bath 2 Nurofen, a Berocca, called the hospital where I had my 2 children and the Mirena put in, they said it may have dislodged because it is a foreign object our bodies will try to reject it from time to time because it is a foreign object, it is not dangerous for us just really uncomfortable, the pain started to go away so i went to work, I feel a bit heavy but that is it!
She has booked me in for a consult in the New Year, I am not worried.
Not that Bad!
