I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in April of this year (2007) kind of by accident through a routine checkup. I had gained a bit of weight over the past two years, but that was really my only symptom. I was begun on 75 mcg of a generic brand of Synthroid, levothyroxine. Since I began this medication, I have rapidly gained another 15 pounds despite a 1,000 calorie per day diet. I retain fluid horribly. My ankles, wrists, hands and face swell daily. My muscles ache, especially my legs, upon walking across a room. I'm fatigued, short of breath. My LDL cholesterol level has skyrocketed in only three months and now I'm being told I need to be on a statin drug. I cry frequently and feel uncharacteristically anxious and irritable, but this could be due to the frustration I am experiencing with the loss of my sense of well-being. In essence, I felt much better before being placed on the medication. I may, in fact, discontinue the medication totally and see if over time I begin to feel better. Like so many other stories I'm hearing, my doctor seems totally unconcerned.

My brother has a nerve disease that affects his legs and feet.
Numbness and severe pain. He has alot of good days though.
As far as the withdrawl symptoms I've experienced are: insomnia, sadness (real bad), tempermental, hands swelling, sweating ( could not tolerate heat or humidity), blurry vision, extreme lack of self-esteem. My hands do not swell anymore, moodiness is better, still have insomnia, weight is coming off slowly and as I talked about before, my stomach problems have finally stopped. I was on pred. 4 yrs. So I feel like I'm doing alot better and so will your son. After reading all the posts when I first found this site, I didn't feel so strange and alone. Of course, everyone is different. Just know he will get rid of the withdrawl. My doctor had me quit cold turkey and that's why I feel I have had such a hard time. Weaning off of it is the right thing to do. I also had horrible headaches which have stopped. Take care.....Keep us posted on your son...........: )

Anxiety, mood swings, panic attacks, racing heart, internal shakes, constipation, insecurity, lack of self esteem. I do not know me at this time and this is three days after finishing this horrible drug. This is the second time in my life that I have had to take it and I am never never going to take it again. At times I feel as if I am losing my mind.
