I needed my copper coil changing and at my appointment I was recommended the Mirena due to increased blood flow. I did not have an opinion either way and took the advise of the family planning doctor. I had not until now read any reviews on this product. I was going to make an appointment to see my doctor due to my increasing depression. I am now going to have my Mirena removed this week.
These are my symptoms to date, (5 months).
No Periods (cool)
Very heavy and larger breasts, all new bras and have to wear sports bra to bed due to very painful breasts. I cannot run at the gym and have to walk on the treadmill.
I have put on weight and this is more of a problem I cannot lose any of it. 1-2lbs a month. I go to the gym, play squash and tennis.
People have noticed my weight gain.
I feel bloated and puffy.
Feel very tired and have to go to bed in the day at weekends.
I have been feeling very depressed and have got rather worried about it.
My partner says I have changed as a person.
I did have a very healthy sex life, mostly me leading and I am now not only not bothered either way, I actually do not want any sex at all.
I feel sick and have actually been sick.
I always have a bruise and I don't know how I got it.
I am moody and have become quite lonely.
I think that is plenty to be going on with.
I have read out what all you lot have said to my partner and he just said get that thing out and he is calling the doctor tomorrow to get the snip, something we have just left till now.
I am going to have mine taken out this week so hopefully I will get back to the 'normal' me very soon.

I have taken 4 Femcon pills. I only eat homemade salads. I ate one at 6pm. At 4am the next morning, I began vomiting for 4 hours straight. Toast, crackers, pepto - nothing helped. Yesterday, I couldn't even eat anything. Today, I couldn't even push down 3 bites of salad. After FOUR days only, I cannot fit into the jeans I have been wearing since 9th grade. I am 22 and my hips are the size of kansas. My husband has noticed larger breasts, but I can't tell. I am very very moody, my headaches have been terrible! I take 2 Excedrin migraine every 4 hours but no relief. It's Christmas time so doctors are closed, but I will not take anymore. Fortunately I got samples. Who hs left femcon for something else and found a better product? There was no discussion between doctor and I about what pill would be best. I just told her I can't swallow pills and she gave me this. I just got married and this is my first BC pill. I do not like condoms. Someone please recommend something good!!

I had started the nuvaring 4 years ago and had loved it! I had no side effects except tender, larger breasts. I am a natural 36 D so it is a pain for me to go up to a 36 DD. I stopped taking the nuvaring a year ago since I was not in a serious relationship anymore and I wanted to give my body a break from hormones. I just started nuvaring again almost 2 weeks ago. I find myself crying for no reason. I am moodier than I usually am. I find myself crying then laughing then being frustrated. I find myself not motivated to do anything but watch tv. As I do so, I find my thoughts wandering to pulling a trigger to my head. I have no stress or worries in my life, why would I feel this way? I just don't understand why nuvaring used to be the best birth control and now it is a nightmare.

This is a weight of my shoulders.
I have been experiencing many of the symptoms that have been posted here and cannot begin to tell you what a relief it is that I'm not alone. I have been using the Nuvaring for 6 months. Some of the pros were convenience, larger breasts ( I went from a full C to a DD), and more lubrication. My side affects were extreme leg pain, excessive weight gain (about 30 pounds), increased appetite, fatigue, head aches, irritability, heart rate increase, dizziness, gas, bloating need I say more? Last night I took it out immediately because I finally put all the pieces together. It's amazing to know that I'm not alone in all of this. The weight gain was so fast that I have stretch marks that are extremely deep and I have belly fat for the first time in my life it has sprung right on my stomach. I'm only 19 so this is quit concerning for me... I went from 165 to 195. I have stayed around 165 for 5 years and the fact that I put on this thirty pounds was extremely concerning. I am grateful I know what's the issue, and hopefully with more energy and a decrease in appetite, I will be well on my way to my old self.

I went on this website and read all of these helpful comments before starting loestrin24fe. After reading them i have to admit i was nervous because of all of the negatives i read about. I am starting my 3rd pack of loestrin24fe and i have to say i have not experienced many side effects. Some minor nausea the first week, minimal spotting for 3-4 days week 3 of the 2nd pack and larger breasts. However,.....my worst symptom which is affecting my relationship is my loss of sex drive!!!! Since starting this pill, i have no desire to have sex and sexual intercourse is just painful and not pleasurable at all!! is anyone else feeling this way

My 20 yr. old daughter was on Loestrin 24 Fe for almost a year with seemingly few side effects (except larger breasts). When her Rx ran out, the doc would not prescribe more until she had an exam. She ended up going off the pill for a couple of months, which was okay because there was no boyfriend or sexual contact during that time. She then got a prescription refill and went back on it. Within about 3 weeks she started experiencing random panic attacks including, headaches, nausea, rapid heart beat, sweaty hands and dizziness. At first she wrote it off as stress, but now they are happening ALL the time and are interfering with her life. She is a college student and is becoming paralyzed by the anxiety and the fear of a panic attack. She can't go to class, can't drive and is worried all the time. This is soooo unlike my happy-go-lucky daughter. She feels like she is going crazy. I talked to the GYN and she thought that the pill could definitely be enhancing these symptoms, but didn't feel they were the main cause. I now have a completely different opinion from her since reading all the posts on here describing the exact same symptoms while on this pill. My daughter has now stopped taking them (it's been about a week) and the doctor said it could take a couple of cycles for the drug to be completely out of her system. I'm praying that these symptoms go away after the hormones are flushed out....anyone have any experience with the anxiety going away after going off the pill??????

I was on Estrostep for two years - my first experience on the pill. It was very uneventful, though my periods were light - in one case so light it never showed up. This led to a pregnancy scare.
The real reason why I wanted to switch to something else was because I wanted larger breasts (I can't even fill most A-cup bras), and I thought a pill that was consistent with the estrogen would fill the bill. But I told the gynecologist I was feeling more depressed on Estrostep. Note that I told her I am clinically depressed and am taking Lexapro. She gave me Yasmin.
What happened? I since I've started taking it, I've had a very hard time getting out of bed. I work a night job, so it technically shouldn't be a big deal, but I have lots of things I need to do before I go to work in the afternoon (including exercise to help me manage my depression... needless to say I haven't been working out lately). And even after I have my 9-10 hours of sleep, I still feel tired and fatigued. I also have had a harder time keeping my attention. I chalked these up to my depression and the onset of colder weather, then I realized I didn't feel THIS bad on Estrostep!
My anxiety also has increased at times. I had an embarassing outburst in public in front of my boyfriend, set off by a very trivial matter. My periods are thick and heavy, requiring frequent tampon changes. I cramp more (I had no cramps on Estrostep), and I even feel bloated! My acne worsened.
And - as it would turn out - my breasts did not grow larger.
I'm amazed at how commonly prescribed this pill is (and how relatively few people take Estrostep). I don't know if I'm going to switch back or try something new, but my Yasmin days should soon be over.

Thank you all. After reading many of your experiences I feel sooo much better, so much less crazy.
The past few months I've been feeling depressed, I can't seem to lose the ten pounds I gained since starting Nuvaring over a year ago, I've been having severe dizzy spells (I almost passed out and had to lay down for about 20 minutes), I have NO sex drive and I've been getting anxious over little things. The lack of sex drive is the worst. I've always been rather sexual but now I just never want to have sex. I've never felt so uninterested and out of touch in my whole life.
I just talked to a doctor a few days ago and got a blood test mainly for my thyroid and vitamin D levels. But now I'm thinking it's probably not my thryroid it's probably the nuvaring! The doctor (a male fresh out of med school) told me to get counseling. Apparently me almost passing out wasn't enough to make him think that my problems are something more than just mental.
Regardless if the blood test comes back okay I'm stopping the nuvaring and hopefully that will do the trick. The nuvaring was great for the first 8 months. No side effects other than a slight weight gain and larger breasts but now it's just ridiculous.
