Wow, I never thought that some of the health problems I experienced in the past few years was related to Yasmin until I read this website. I had been on Yasmin for 5 years, I just went off of it in late August as my husband and I would like to have children next year. I found this website because I wanted to know what sort of side effects I would get by going OFF the pill. Well, let me tell you, by being ON Yasmin for 5 years, I experienced the following:

-major migraines (never experienced these - 4 were blinding where i had to just lay down because i couldn't hold my head up)
-weight gain (a lot of weight, for virtually no reason)
-shortness of breath (when i've never had that before)
-high blood pressure (when i've never had that before)
-heart palpitations (when i've never had that before)
-anxious feelings, especially in work situations
-loss of energy - inability to work out for no real reason

i am 31 years old with no health problems before going on Yasmin. now that i have been off it for almost 2 months, i feel 10x better both physically and mentally! i hope to lose the weight i gained while on Yasmin. i just got my blood pressure taken this past weekend it was normal-low. the last 2 times i had it taken while i was on Yasmin, it was high.

if you are taking this pill, please go off of it ASAP. Tell your friends not to take it as well.

I can not say that NuvaRing is the reason for my illnesses but I am a fitness competitor and athlete and have always been very healthy with the exception of IBS that was diagnosed 5 or 6 years ago.
I am 37 years old and started using NR in August of 2008. In late August I went to emergency for extreme pain in my back and stomach. They put me in surgery to remove what turned out to be healthy appendix. Since then I have been to the Dr constantly with fevers, sinus infections, ear infection, bronchitis and most recently am undergoing tests to find out why my kidneys and pancreas are infected. I have been on antibiotics 4 times since January.
I started putting time lines together and decided to research the NR further. After looking at many symptoms, I opted to take the NR out in April of this year and go back to the pill.
I go back for another set of tests on my kidneys and pancreas next week and hope to find all is well. I have been off antibiotics now for 3 weeks and no sinus, ear or upper respiratory infections for the first time in month.
This is all unfortunate because I did appreciate the convenience of the NR but I am not willing to risk my health.

My 12 year old daughter completed the 3rd round of the Gardasil shot in late August of 2008. School started the next week. A couple of weeks later, she became ill and I rushed her several times to the doctor and to the emergency room only to have the doctor say she had a virus. After 2 weeks of horrible pain, nausea, and headaches, I took her to the emergency room at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was referred to a Gastroenterologist where she has been going ever since. The doctor has had her on pain medicine since December to help her cope. I analyzed all of her information and compared it to the 12,000 cases in the VAERS database and I am convinced that the shot made her sick. NO DOUBT! The database is located at http://www.medalerts.org/ and you can run the lot # of the dose given to you through the database to determine if their has been any adverse effects noted. The first dose that Lauren had was listed 78 times. Her second dose was listed 70 times. Her third dose was listed 74. I researched the ingredients contained in the shot and the one that I am concerned with is Aluminum. After researching the effects of aluminum poisoning, I believe that she has all of the signs. I begin treating my daughter at home with sublingual (dissolves under the tongue) Vitamin B12 and Vitamin C tablets available at the local drug store over the counter. My daughter has been sick for 7 months and has missed almost her entire Eighth Grade year. As you can see, since starting the vitamins, she has gone from being sick 97% to only being sick 28% of the time. This is a BIG improvement and this may help other young ladies who are affected. I don’t think it will help all, but as sick as these girls are, I don’t see how it could hurt. Her doctors at Wake Forest are aware of what I am doing and agree.

Month Sick Well
SEPT 93% 7%
OCT 97% 3%
NOV 83% 17%
DEC 87% 13%
JAN 71% 29%
FEB 43% 57%
MAR (WK 1-3) 28% 72%

My daughter has been referred to Duke Medical Center now and will go for her first appointment in about 1 month. The FDA and CDC need to pay attention to what is going on and pull this drug off the market. If you have been affected, please ensure that you report your reaction to the VAERS Database. Your doctor is required to report adverse effects, so demand that they do so.

I hope this helps, and if anyone tries the vitamins and it does help or if you would just like to ask me some questions about my daughters experience, email me at ****** and let me know. I will update the doctors at Wake Forest and Duke. Hopefully, if we band together, we can get to the bottom of this and figure out what to do help these vaccine injured girls.

I am 31 yrs. old and have had 2 children. I had the mirena inserted in late August. Since then, I have had light spotting EVERY day and periods about once a week that last for a few hours. It is so annoying. I am a runner and I can't stand the inconsistency and cramping all the time. I also have had severe acne - which I have never experienced before. Until tonight, I thought it was just a mid-life crisis of acne... but now that I have read all your stories, I am convinced that I too, like all of you, am calling tomorrow to get this taken out.
Thank you all for your stories - they have helped me tremendously.

i had my mirena inserted in late august & it was sooo painful. the doctor told me it would settle down & to come back in 6 weeks for a check up. well during that 6 weeks, the cramping hardly stopped, with sharp pains in the tops of my legs, my hair was falling out when i brushed it, i couldn't think straight or remember anything, i was very moody & depressed. i was a total mess!
when i went back for my check up & told her my symptoms.. she checked the strings & gave me an internal, which was painful. she said i had an infection from the insertion & was given 2 different antibiotics. i went back 2 weeks later & the infection was still there so she removed the mirena & gave me another course of antibiotics, which im still taking. im still feeling confused & forgetful & moody but the pain has all but gone.
thank god its out of me.
never again!

I had the mirena inserted in late August of 2006 and have had consistent pelvic discomfort. Prior to mirena I delt with cysts and endometriosis and the one thing that mirena DID do was take away my cycle. Since not having a period I no longer had the monthly cramping from the cysts or endometriosis. However, the down side to the mirena is that I felt like I would have stabbing pain in my pelvic area where the mirena was at. I did have cramping from the mirena as well (not associated to period cramps at all). In July of 2007 my husband and I were taken by surprise when I miscarried at 1 months gestation. How could this have happened??? I was not given any answers, I was not given a proper check to make sure that the mirena was still in place, and when I mentioned the pain from the mirena I was told it was 'common' and 'should go away'....well I had finally had enough of the pain and lack of energy...weight gain as well and decided to have the mirena taken out on September 5th 2008. I went to a different doctor to have it taken out versus going back to the same doctor who put it in and didn't give me any answers. The new doctor explained that the chances of getting pregnant are rare and the pain are factors of the mirena most likely not being in place correctly. She explained that it needs to sit in/at your uterus and it can sometimes slip down to your cervix, making pregnancy possible. It was a relief to get the mirena out. I have been bleeding though non-stop since the 5th and it is now the 13th.

My story:
First of all, thank you all so much for your postings. I, as well, am sitting here in tears finally realizing that I'm not the only one going through this. I am 32 with 3 kids (13, 11, 7) and with the exception of my pregnancies always used Depo-provera for my bc method. I was lucky in that I never experienced the terrible weight gain and side effects that many women using Depo often did. After my divorce 5 years ago, I finally decided to stop the birth control. I was not sexually active and it seemed like more of a hassle just to not have a period any longer. The two years I had no bc in me...I felt fantastic. Normal, balanced, happy. Then I met Matt. I decided to try bc pills again, but as historically is normal for me...had severe breakthrough bleeding. (14 day periods..even on Yaz)

So I went back to the depo this past September. I had a little weight gain, and some mild acne. Not severe, but enough to make me talk to the doctor about it at my three month check. So he tells me about Mirena! The same hormone base as depo, but since it sits intra-uterine, the hormones are not quite as systemic, and my symptoms should decrease significantly.

SHOULD! but DIDN"T!

Periods: Since I had already been on depo, I simply did not have periods. I did have some mild spotting right after insertion...and did notice a slight brownish tinge occasionally, especially after intercourse, but nothing significant. It wasn't until the end of February (2 months after insertion) that I noticed a "period." It was nothing more than spotting and only lasted 3 days. But then I had another one 2 weeks later, and again 2 weeks after that.

Weight: My starting weight, late August 2007, was 145 pounds. My last doctor visit on April 7 weighed me in at 175. From September to December on depo...I gained about 10 pounds. From December through now...I'm up another 25 pounds. Please keep in mind that I used to work out anywhere form 2-4 times per week. Around mid-February, I increased to 4-5 times per week...and for the last month have been working out 5-7 times per week. (I'm not any kind of health freak...and am irritated because I don't feel like I have a life anymore. My life consists of working, kids, and my flipping treadmill!) Over the last month, I have also decreased my caloric intake to 1200-1500 calories per day. I'm still gaining.

Acne: Plus the acne went from mild to severe. To the point that I ended up going to a dermatologist in early March and am now on my second course of treatment with no luck. The next course is Accutane...which if you don't know about...simply google it. I have no intention of putting that in my body!

Depression: So I call my doctor and of course they say it couldn't be the Mirena. Now I'm feeling really crazy and Matt's wondering what he's gotten himself into being with this girl who cries at Hallmark commercials, and is moody, and always in a bad mood, and now is getting worse because she can't fit into anything in her closet, and is dreading summer not only for the fear of getting into a bathing suit...but if I go swimming I'm absolutely dreadful of people seeing what my face and skin looks like with no make-up due to the acne.

Pain: Shortly after the first of the year, I noticed pain in my lower back...I figured it was due to shoveling the drive and whatnot...just everyday things. Then the pain in my shoulders started; the right one especially. (I'm a healthy 32 year old. I cut down a tree in my yard by myself two summers ago.) Joint pain is not an option and rather new territory for me. So I go to the doc who wants me in PT 3 times a week...anti-inflammatories, cortisone injections...the works. (I settled with anti-inflammatories.) I had never even heard of this as a possible side effect until I read it on these postings.

I looked at my medicine cabinet this weekend. I feel like I could run a pharmacy out of my home. Medications for acne, joint pain, depression, anxiety. Plus the cost of co-pays and deductibles. And it hit me. With the exception of my Claritin for seasonal allergies...every medication I am now taking is simply to combat the side effects of this T-shaped hormonal vehicle snuggled in my womb! The I saw the Special K commercial: "Who's going to win? The bathing suit? or you?"

Well guess what! I decided it's going to be ME!

I finally decided I've had it and have an appointment on May 6th to have it removed. Matt can wrap it or snip it...but I can't keep doing this to myself. I've made a decision to use no form of hormonal birth control. I'm thinking about trying the FemCap which is basically a silicone cervical cap. It needs to be used with spermicide, but no hormones!

The idea of feeling like I did last year again is the only thing keeping me going right now. To be happy, and confident, and just feel balanced and whole again...I'll post more later after it's removed. In the meantime...if anyone has heard of any class action lawsuits with Mirena, I'd be interested to know about it.

Good luck to all of us!

Hello. I started taking lisinopril 20 mg about 1.5 months ago because of hbp and I also started taking toprol for rapid heart beat 1/2 a month before that. Although it did lower my hbp it made me feel lousy. I started getting anxiety all the time, aches in my body (stomach etc), nausea, dizziness, spaced out, and numbness in my hands. My father passed away about 2.5 months ago and so I figured that the anxiety was something normal given the circumstances. I thought that the other side effects were part of the anxiety. I felt as thought I was going to go crazy or die. I also started to become a hypocondriac thinking that if I had a pain in my stomach it might be stomach cancer etc. It was not until I found this site that I see that lisinopril and/or the toprol might be the thing that is causing me to feel lousy. I was always healthy and I never had anxiety. I understand that I shoud feel a little anxiety and sadness because of my father, but I don't feel a little anxiety, I get intense panic attacks. I feel as thought I can't get back to normal, I just feel as though I'm not myself. I want to stop this meds as soon as possible before I, too, get worse side effects. Please let me know if you all think that it is the medications or is this just part of the griving process. All I know is that I started taking this pills and all this started to happen.

I took 7 days of Levaquin back in late August--it is the day after Christmas and my legs are still very swollen, sore and stiff, with major knee pain. Of course my doctor denies this, saying that I have "poor circulation."

Before this happened, he always praised my GREAT leg circulation. Has anyone else had this symptom and how long did it last?

Started on Lipitor 10 mg 6/16/03 Thought only side effect to watch for was liver problem. Noticed muscle pain (and I mean SEVERE muscle pain--could not sleep because of it and literally crying every day. I blamed it on the fact that I'd gone off hormone replacement therapy.) in late August/early Sept, but didn't associate it with Lipitor until a friend mentioned he'd had problems. I stopped taking it right away and saw my doctor. She tested me for rheumatoid arthritis (came back negative). I've been off it for little over a month. Some days I think I'm getting better and other days aren't so good. The big question I have is: How long before I will be "normal" again?

I started taking Zocor in April for high cholesterol. In late August I started getting muscle
aches in my hands and calves. My feet are so stiff I can hardly walk sometimes. I have been
to my doctor twice and he has run test, he thinks it is side effects of Zocor even though I have been off of it for 7 weeks. Another women, who is a frienc of a friend developed fibromyalgia from it. Any one else have this happening to them?
