I have had the Mirena for 1 year and 3 months. I have gained 15 pounds in the last year my breast are fuller and put stomach looks like I am 6 months pregnant! I have been having the worst pain in my left side that shoots down my leg. I went to my dr and told her that I thought it was put in wrong, because the of the pain. She had me get in ultrasound and it was positioned correctly and there were no tumors. She said that it could be just that I am ovulating, but I still was not happy with that answer because the pain was just on one side. After several months of the pain I asked her to perform another ultrasound to check it out again, the ultrasound again came back that all was well. My hair is thinning sooo bad, my mood swings are scary. I am sooo tired! The weekends I have a date with my bed and my remote. My kids and my husband are suffering because of the mood swings and my laziness. I am going to have this thing taken out! I want my life back. Oh forgot to mention that I have gas that is out of control!!

I was just wondering if any one else has expierecned the side effects I have. I'm not sure if they're from the pill or not so I'm wondering if anyone can relate. Now first I do get bad headaches and I know those are from this pill. My eye sight got slightly worse and I can't wear contacts well which again, are side effects from the pill. However, my "new" side effects are nausea, balance issues, I feel like my body swells when I get too hot (no I'm not pregnant), I also just feel so lethargic and tired all the time. I have no motivation to do anything, especially when it comes to being active. I'm not depressed but I'm getting there because of the laziness. I do have a few mood swings before my period but not often and I usually know they're mood swings and I'm being ridiculous. OH! Also I get this weird rash on my body, it's like a bunch of red blotchy spots when the sun is on me too long or when I get too hot. Does any of this happen to anyone else?

Well I went to the doctors today and they gave me a regular pap after that they told me I could get up and get dressed I thought well you have not taken that Mirena out yet my doctor came back in to talk to me I told her my side effects she said it had nothing to do with the Mirena and that the people on this site didn't know what they were talking about! Ha I said well Im having all those symptoms and want to have it removed she almost yelled at me and said "WELL IF YOU WANT IT OUT GET UP ON THE TABLE RIGHT NOW AND I'LL TAKE IT OUT" I was almost scared to but I got up on the table and she came back in the room ALONE and got prepared I asked her if it was going to hurt she said no so she told me to take a deep breath and she yanked it out it felt like she pulled my fallopian tube with her it hurt so bad She said there it's out see I felt dizzy for about 10 seconds then started cramping some more but at least it's gone after that she handed me some birth control told me to start it today and walked out the room crazy right? Ill post again in a few months to fill in in how im doing anyone out there considering the Mirena please take a while to think about what you are doing I thought I knew but had no idea!!

Why do I think I landed here, I have been having very bad mood swings mostly relating to anger and dissatisfaction in everything and everybody. Put the mirena in April 2008, braved it out for 4 months with the
1. spotting and all the time kept thinking that my
2. fatigue and no interest in everything was due the stress of having 2 kids, work and the pregnancy weight that I have to shed.
3. I am hungry always (maybe since I am breast feeding the baby)
I had a copper IUD between my first and second son,
4. I don't remember how that was ( am I in a mental fog?). must have been better than this one. I never wanted anything hormonal. I don't want pills. Dont even know why I went with this then. I know the doctor convinced me saying it has very little hormonal effects
Yesterday, I just lost myself over a silly issue, now I feel I am going to lose my wonderful relationships with people. My 3 yr old asks me If I am not angry any more uh!!!. Why cant I call the doctor to get it removed when I doubt it could be the IUD.
5.I am lazy( another symptom).
Do I have to wait a little longer or take it out and maybe get my self back.?
(What a question to an obvious answer)
Confused!!! lazy!!

I have been on Yasmin for about 2-3 years or so... but i remember thinking i was the luckiest girl because i found a pill i thought was great and made my periods only 2 days i loved it.... but lately for the past year i have been very depressed i realized something was different when i laughed i wasn't laughing i was just doing cause i knew i should laugh, i just didn't find myself happy and i should be I'm getting married to a wonderful guy who has put up with my loss of sex drive and being dry which makes it hurt so it makes it that much worse and my loss of exercising i feel fatigue over taking a walk or doing nothing i thought it was laziness or lack of motivation... then i have a bad knee and within the past year and half i have had severe neck issues with my muscles
i talked to my doctor she told me to see a psychologist for my depression, i have yet to do so but now realizing many other people are feeling this way on this site makes me happy I'm not really a depressed person and I'm just really messed up over this pill
I'm calling my doctor now to see if i can get my pill switched i cant last like this for much longer ill go insane and so will my fiance!!!

I had a horrible experience with the Mirena. Weight gain, high blood pressure, mood swings, loss of libido, etc. I got the Mirena removed on Monday, and I am already feeling better. I started a blog detailing my experiences with the Mirena, and would love for more ladies to come participate and share their stories.

I have been on Yasmine for 6 months now. I just found this site coincidentally while seeking an explanation for why did my life change? I have not taken birth control pills for years, and have decided to take Yasmin because my friend recommended it. That was the worse thing I've done for myself in years.
Today, after reading all the posts and identifying with many of the symptoms, I feel I am obliged to share my experience too.
I am a very successful realtor and my job is very demanding in activity. I was on vacation since Oct last year for 3 months until the end of the year. Oct was when I started to take Yasmin. I attributed my sudden 10 lbs gain to my vacation and indulgence, I attributed me not being able to wake up and go to the gym at 6am to my laziness of my extended vacation, I attributed my mood swings and depression to the fact that I have been away from my work for so long I'll have to work hard and suffer to get back on track.... but today I have a different idea about what's going on.
I will be finishing this pack this month, and I will be off this pill forever. I cannot believe i've been lying to myself and blaming all the bad stuff that I've been going through on my extended vacation!
I so much miss waking up early and going to the gym, being at my office bright and early at 8am and having a fabulously productive day without any mental pain or suffering... I've been so depressed I've been sleeping 9 to 10 hours a day, plus I've been so wanting to just drink and get away from people.
What a mess.... someone needs to speak up to these pharmaceutical companies and stop them from releasing such detrimental medication into the market. This can be very damaging to lives and women not even noticing. I've even had thoughts that life is not worth living.... how did I get to that if I am a brilliant happy and shiny human being???
I hope more women find this site and stop taking this pill. I will do my part to inform everybody and help anyone I can reach.
Love to all of you!

I have also had many of these side effects while taking Yasmin. I'm almost to my fourth week of taking this and im already spotting. Since the first few days I've been on Yasmin I've had trouble sleeping, restless legs in the night, waking up in the middle of the night, frequent headaches, nausea usually in the mornings and into the afternoons, lack of appetite, laziness/depressed, and terrible lower abdominal and lower back pains. No pill has ever made me feel so terrible. I'm only in my first month of taking Yasmin, but I can guarentee you that next month I will be on another pill. This is too much to handle.

I am a deskbound employee 63 years of age. I have been on HBP meds for the last fourteen years due to my weight. I have slowly escalated from 230lbs to 330 lbs over the last ten years. I have been on Lisinopril (20mg and then 40mg/day) for the last three years. It does control my blood pressure but could be part of the problem with losing any weight. My exercise is extememly limited due to laziness, financial inability to get equipment/memberships, and (of course) the overweight condition. While I don't have a dry cough I do have a consistant sinus drainage and some heartburn symptoms. I am concerned that the Lisinopril is contributing to my weight situation since I have not been able to lose weight regardless of diet.
I am planning to move off of the chemicals and use natural herbs and medicine to control my blood pressure. I will report changes here after three months off of the pills.

I've been on Dilantin for approx. 5 years now because I began having seizures after being involved in an airplane crash when I was 14. I suffered a ABI (Aquired Brain Injury) which has had a considerable effect on me. A considerable problem with this is trying to separate what symptoms are a result of what condition.
Since I've been taking Dilantin - I've noticed first of all my gums tend to be a little more sensitive than normal, bleeding at times when I brush.
My ability to learn new activities & study is also diminished, I find I have to study twice as hard & have to do things twice as much as the average person before it finally "sinks in". To the un-trained eye, this can be easily mistaken for laziness or lack of motivation. I had always attributed these learning difficulties to my brain injury, but after looking into Dilantin side-effects, I've discovered that diminished learning has also been associated with taking this drug.
Another side-effect I've noticed is a diminished sex-drive. Only recently have I started looking into this, but I've dealt with this for the past couple of years, and it has really started to have an effect on my relationship with my wife.

I posted my experiences on June 5, 2009. I thought I would do an update. Yes, I am overjoyed that I had Mirena removed. It took 3-6 months for the side effects from the drug to disappear after removal. In the first 1-3 months following removal I haven't experienced another rash, itchy skin, hair loss, anxiety, heart flutter, bloating, cramping, breast tenderness,or eye twitch. It took about 3-6 months for the mild to cystic acne and low back pain to finally vanish. I still have problems with tendinitis in my wrist. The depression and feeling of laziness is also a side effect of the medication that can disappear if the device is removed. I paid for all the expenses out out pocket with no insurance, but I'm glad I didn't wait to have the Mirena removed because of the expense.
