Hi there... I came off of Yasmin just 2 weeks ago and thought I should share with you my story since yours is a skin issue. I took Yasmin for 3 years. This past year I would wake up some bumps on my lip.. then on my hands.. then (this is over a period of months) I would wake up and have a slightly swollen lip... this was over the last year or so. I would also get a feeling in my throat, like something was in it and swallowing felt funny.
WELL, 2 weeks ago, I took my bc like I always do, right before I go to bed and my lip starts to tingle and itch.. and in the morning my face was swollen 3x the normal size on on side, mostly at the lips... I couldn't really talk.. it was like those awful photos on google. It was angioedema and can kill you by swelling of the throat. I had also for about a year- an ear issue.. it would sound like I was talking under water and felt like swimmer's ear- related to the swelling I found out later. Turns out I'm allergic. I developed this allergy over the period of time I was exposed.

I just want to say to anyone out there that has FACIAL/LIP SWELLING, or swelling of the hands... GO TO THE ER. It can kill you. I got lucky.. my swelling started slow and after about a year if was full blown. It is not something to mess around with!I was prescribed an epi pen. I developed an allergy to a preservative in it and I'm not an allergen sensitive person. That was just the parms/doctor guess I might add.

The first year I took Yasmin I had numb and tingling toes. and the whole tie I've had on and off leg pain.. no sex drive, that's the truth..definite bloating issues about 6 lbs weight gain, sometimes more without change in diet. I haven't noticed any hair loss thankfully. Migraines. Lots of nausea in the morning, every morning like morning sickness. Car sick even when driving.. not normal! I used to work on an airplane and I never got motion sickness.

I'm now on day 4 of Mirena IUD and I'm having having severe diarrhea and trouble sleeping.. I really, really don't want to get pregnant. Our next step is a vasectomy for the hubby. I'm 25 and I weigh 140 5'10 if that helps. I wasn't an 'at risk' like the pamphlet said.

I had Mirena inserted in Nov '08. I bled constantly for 6 weeks after and then nothing. I only have occasional spotting. At first I thought this was great - no period! (woohoo!!) but now I actually miss my period. It's not natural not to have a period! I've been experiencing a lot of side affects that I was attributing to turning 40 but after reading the symptoms others have been experiencing, maybe it's not due to my age. I've had problems with large ovarian cysts. I constantly have pain in my ovaries which I'm thinking it must be more cysts. I've gained weight and can't loose it no matter how hard I try. I have no energy and no interest in a lot of things I used to love to do. I have pain in my knees, pain in the joints of my fingers as well as mood swings, depression, anxiety, memory loss. I recently went to the doctors because I felt I had a constant lump in my throat - I went for an ultrasound and found I have multiple cysts on my thyroid. I'm not sure if this is all related to the Mirena, but I don't remember feeling this crappy before I had it. I'd like to have it removed immediately but I can't get an appt' with the GYN until September!

I am 40 years old had been on the Depo-provera shot for almost one year for endometriosis and had NO side effects other than a significant (25 lbs.) weight gain. After complaining to my doctor about the weight gain he changed my prescription to Loestrin 24 Fe and told me that within approximately six weeks I should see that weight start to drop off. Well, I've only been taking this BC pill for not even a full month and I have significant side effects, such as: severe headaches every day, break-through bleeding, insomnia, fatigue, mood swings, bloating, extremely swollen and tender breasts which have increased a full cup size in just a month and am still continuing to gain weight by the week. I would NOT recommend this pill to anyone.

I am so glad I found this sight! For all Prednisone users out there...I was prescribed Prednisone for an upper respiratory infection (I had for 9 months). I was prescribed a 21-day 'taper down' course five (5) times; in actuality not all that much...if I had only known what this drug would do to my body! Besides the insatiable hunger and weight gain (5 - 7 lbs. weight gain per course of the drug), the swollen face/neck, muscle aches, double-vision, sleeplessness - I have been through the worst three (3) years of my life since taking this 'drug'! Three years ago, I had the worst knee pain (in both knees). The orthopedists said tendinitis, bursitis, IT band syndrome...finally a new ortho. ordered an MRI and found out I had Stage II Avascular Necrosis (AVN) in both knees. This is a condition where the blood flow has STOPPED reaching a certain area of the body. It is a side effect of this so-called 'wonder drug' (Prednisone). I had the surgery that is used for AVN (Core Bone Decompression) - it did NOT work! They tried other surgical procedures to no avail. A big issue was that AVN in the knee is very rare. AVN commonly strikes in the hip. There was little or no medical documentation on how to treat AVN in the knee(s). A year later, I ended up having total knee replacements in both knees. Last summer (Summer '06) I broke a bone in my pinky finger by barely hitting a wall in frustration over all this. My bones are extremely brittle from this drug. I am sitting writing this after having dental (oral) surgery because I have lost four (4) teeth as a result of this drug! I need over $7,000 in dental work (implants/bone grafting) that insurance does not cover as a side effect from this drug. I realize that some people out there must take this drug...If you have taken this drug, and have pain in your hips and/or knees, please ask your doctor for an MRI (AVN can not be seen in X-ray until end stage - when the joint collapses from lack of blood flow) and see your dentist regularly. I am only 34 years old and if I can reach just one person regarding the side effects of Prednisone, I will sleep better tonight!

I started my daughter on Apri in May of 2004 to help extreme period cramps & cysts building up and causing pain. During that time she developed severe headaches, gained 20-25 lbs weight, awful mood swings, depression. Hair loss, not much help with acne and also discoloration of skin. It is now August 2006 and she has been off for appx. 1 mo and it is an amazing difference. She said terrible food cravings that she was having for sweets have gotten way better - please think twice b/4 putting your kids on this - I am now looking at other healthier alternatives...

I have been on the nuva ring for almost a year. I did not start noticing the side effects until I read about the side effects. I have had a headache since I started the nuva ring. When I wake up in the morning I have to lay in bed for a while because if i get up to fast my head will hurt so bad. I have also been on the patch, the shot, and the pill. I have tried almost everything. The shot was okay minus the 50 lbs. weight gain I would never get on that ever again just the weight gain alone made me depressed. Then I got on the pill I loved the pill I did not have a hard time remembering to take my pill. For some reason I wanted to try the patch and I got off of the pill. The patch turned me into the devil I was so mean to everyone. I did not have any side effects of weight gain with anything but the shot so all the other bc are okay in my eyes. Now the nuva ring is okay it's just my sex life is gone my husband just got back from Iraq in Jan. 06 you would think that I would be all over him. Wrong. I don't have the energy I don't even feel like playing with my daughter I just have no energy. And I realize that I cry a lot more and I never cried before this bc. I will be getting back on the pill I can not wait. I love Ortho tri-cyclen it made my acne go away. No more nuva ring. Oh yeah the discharge is really gross also you have to wear a pantyliner all the time.

I have experienced 7 lbs weight loss. But I have been trying to lose weight forever. I am still attempting to decrease my weight, but now it seems impossible to lose the extra lbs i want to shed. Is this common for this drug to make it harder to lose weight?

OK ladies (and gentlemen too), I have just completed my second 6-month course of Lupron. The first time I had some side effects while on the medication (mood swings, hot flashes, massive - 40 lbs! - weight gain, memory and concentration problems, aches and pains, etc) - but the withdrawal was worse. I was trying to plan my best friend's bridal shower and couldn't do it because I was mentally non-functional, and I had diarrhea and other unpleasant effects. Within six months, however, I was able to hold a full time job, take graduate level classes, and do all my other activities. And Lupron gave me 12 symptom-free years - I was sure my endo was cured.

After I found out otherwise last fall, that I had huge endometrial cysts again PLUS some small fibroids (the result of all the pills and progestins I'd taken trying to help the endo), I faced surgery and Lupron again. My doctor was extremely conservative and JUST took out the large cyst on one side - leaving several smaller ones on the other side as well as ALL the adhesions. He recommended Lupron again, and I decided to take the bull by the horns and to do what I could to help myself.

During the course of Lupron treatment, I tried to consume at least 40 mg of soy (soy only!) isoflavones per day. I avoided beer, yams and other phyto-progestins. I upped my consumption of milk and other calcium-rich foods; if I craved sweets, I binged on them. In other words, I listened to my body.

Recent research has shown that the hot flashes and memory problems associated with menopause are the result of changes in the processing of carbohydrates that causes too little glucose to reach the brain. Likewise, I have read that the joint pains associated with Lupron are caused by the drug's undermining the liver's ability to produce glucosamine, another glucose-derivative. I noticed that when I would have symptoms and would, for example, eat sweets (no, fruit won't do), my mental symptoms would subside and my joints would almost immediately feel better. I realize most doctors would stone me for this advice, and I have gained 15 lbs - but I have /only/ gained 15, whereas I gained 40 before while attempting to eat right and exercise.

I have also found that MSM, especially when combined with chicken collagen, almost instantly helps my joints. The glucosamine/chondroitin formulations I tried tended to make me dizzy - again, probably something to do with the Lupron's effects on the liver.

For my immune system I have been taking Coenzyme Q10 and Juice Plus, a fruit and vegetable blend available online (www.juiceplus.com).

I won't say I haven't had side effects either while on the Lupron or since going off, but I have been functioning much better thus far than I did while on or immediately after going off the Lupron before. Can't hurt to try it. Good luck!

I experienced a stroke after being on this pill for only three months. I have no doubt in my mind, nor do my doctors, that Yasmin was the cause of the stroke. I had experienced 15 lbs weight gain, fatigue, and headaches prior to the stroke. If you are over 35 or if you have ever had migraines, don't take this medication! And if you begin having severe headaches while on Yasmin, don't wait for them to go away or give yourself time to "adjust" to the medication. You are gambling with your health.

Please share any similar stories with me at geanos@hotmail.com. Put "Yasmin" in the subject line.

SEVERE jaw/tooth pain, I drink something immediately after and assumed that was sufficient.
20 lbs weight gain in two months with diet and exercise. Was actually losing weight up until that point.
Restlessness
Arthritis type pain in hands, very painful and swollen, comparable to what I experienced with toxemia during late pregnancy.
Has helped my asthma tremendously. Terrible dilemma. I need to breathe but diabetes or a heart attack because of weight gain doesn't appeal to me either.
