Also I am having hot flashes too and I am 22...I also have shakes and my heart beats extremely FAST like Im having a panic attack just happened last nite... Hello.

I have been taking topamax for bipolar II disorder. The first week or so, I experienced some very unpleasant side effects. I would become very disoriented while driving and get lost in locations that had previously been very familiar to me. I would also lose track of my thought process mid-sentence. An avid runner, I was unable to exercise for about a week. However, these side-effects have since subsided. I do experience a decrease in appetite, which is fine for now, but I'll have to see how that pans out in the future.

One thing I'd like to point out is that I would imagine topamax to be very unpleasant for somebody who does not have a mood disorder. I feel that it truely restrains my impulses (I suffer from impulse control disorder), and it has worked wonders for me in terms of my mental illness. I believe that topamax is a great alternative to some of the other medications for bipolar disorder in terms of weight gain. On the other hand, I think that those who do not require psychiatric attention would be better off with a drug that does not serve as a mood stabilizer.

That's just my opinion. Good luck!

If you scroll down a ways you'll see entries by Leah. Leah is my sister. She had terrible problems with Yasmin and I have too!

I was on Yasmin for just over 3 years, I stopped taking it this month becase Leah and all of you convinced me that I wasn't really a sickly & emotional mess... it was Yasmin's fault!

Over the past 3 years I've been suffering from the following side effects I now believe are directly related to Yasmin:

Clouded Thinking/Poor Attention Span
Depression (I've been on 2 anti-depressants for almost 3 yrs)
Anxiety (I've been on an anti-anxiety medication)
Violent Mood Swings
Night Sweats
Daily Headaches
Feeling tired all the time
Poor Circulation
Shortness of Breath
Leg Cramps at night that wake me up
Cronic Muscular Pain in my back
NO sex drive

It's been almost 2 weeks since I stopped taking Yasmin. Already my thinking is clearer, I have more energy, less headaches and the sex drive of a teenager! From what I've read here it sounds like things will continue to improve in the next few months. I'll keep you updated. Thanks everyone!

This is a note to Leah who posted below:
Leah, if you are like the rest of us, you do not have a panic disorder. Your problem was started by Yasmin. Tell your doctor he should do some research on Yasmin and/or check out this website. If all of us just happened to develop panic disorder while taking Yasmin, then that is the biggest coincidence I've ever seen. I'm sorry, I don't buy it. Good luck to you & good luck coming off Zoloft. I hope you feel better soon...

I posted about a month ago. I was telling you about my rapid heartbeat and anxiety along with IBS. I stopped taking the pills 4 weeks ago. I have almost no anxiety or rapid heartbeat. I do have the ocasional episode, but nothing like I was having. My stomach is feeling much better also. I am on zoloft though because my doctor was convinced that I had a panic disorder. So after the horrible yasmin is commpletly out of my system(hopefully soon) I will work my way off the zoloft as well. Good luck to all!!
Leah
