Have been taking Januvia since March, developed ankle pain and swelling, diagnosed with Achilles tendon rupture and tendinitis needing surgical repair. Now with severe sudden onset of left shoulder pain without any precipitating event, unable to elevate left arm secondary to pain.

Have been on Januvia for 3 weeks, Very bad left shoulder started about one week into treatment. I initially thought that I had slept on my shoulder "wrong". Left leg pain started last week. Lower leg feels tolerable sitting however when I stand & walk, get shin splint type pains. Shoulder is improving & leg pain intensifying. I called doctor's office this morning and relayed symptoms to the nurse. I told him that I was discontinuing Januvia until I heard otherwise. He took my number but physician did not return call today. I find it odd that there is no mention of this type complication in the patient information handouts. I have taken Motrin, Aleve & Extra Strength Tylenol without relief.

I am a 46 year old male prescribed Lipitor by my doctor for cholesterol above 300 and high triglycerides. 10 mgs for approx 5 months. During this time have developed muscle pain and weakness. Thought I was just getting older. Left shoulder pain started, I have never had shoulder pain in my life (avid weight lifter). Strength and muscle deteriorated rapidly, wasting of shoulder and upper arm. Got extremely tired and confused. Started having short term memory problems, could hardly get out of bed in the morning to come to work...became depressed and despondant. Took myself off two days ago, no improvement yet. Right hip has been aching badly, have been walking with a limp. Just a miserable experience, wish i had known about all this ahead of time, never would have agreed to take it. This has been a humbling and dibilitating experience, feel the life just being sucked out of you. Look forward to relief at some point. If anyone is thinking about taking it....dont!

HI Sunflower,
I had nausea on and off, more so when I went off of Yasmin. I also have left shoulder pain (feels like a joint is sore) but then sometimes, is actual pain/ache under the left breast or between my shoulder and armpit.
Does the swelling feel like it is in your espophagus? Or your throat? Or both? Or glandular-like at either side of your neck? Why I ask is that a side effect that was experienced during clinical trials by women was something called adenovirous which apparently was experienced as "common"-where lymph glands swell.
I too was on Yasmin for 1.5 years before I really started adding up what were a number of side effects that just continued to grow while I was taking Yasmin over that time period-none of them very concerning or as concerning until May 2006 when I noticed unusual "ache"/pain under my left breast. Two months later, it was a squeezing sensation across my whole chest. A month later I saw an RN who confirmed a heart murmur/sinus bradycardia. I was not in good shape.
What I trying to say is that there are a number of women here who have experienced side effects I think are similar to yours. I was originally misdiagnosed with possible GERD as well because the symptoms I was experiencing mimic those of other things.
I'll email you privately. I am glad you found your way here.

UPDATE.....
Hi everyone,
My pd started yesterday after 2 days of light spotting (1st cycle off Yasmin). I went to the doc yesterday and told her that my anxiety was terrible in the early evening. She switched me from Paxil CR 12.5 in the AM to Paxil CR 25 in the evening. She also wants me not to take any more xanax unless my anxiety is extreme. I also need to try yoga and an exercise routine (try that with 2 little kids...)!
My chest pain is still there. She listened to my heart but feels that the pain is related to the anxiety that I am feeling. She will see me in 2 months. My BP is 140/100. The cardiologist did not send the reg doc the results of the 24 hour BP monitoring. My heart is racy and I am a bit lightheaded (maybe from my pd??).
My left shoulder pain is now gone. Every so often I get "warm" feelings in the tops of my arms- has anyone else felt this?
I think that the doc (internal medicine) is now starting to see a correlation in the Yasmin I took and the condition that I am in. I can't say for sure, but she noticed an amazing difference in me in 3 weeks. I hope that I can continue on this path to full recovery.
I will NEVER take another hormone.
SILKE- You are right, I will NOT consider MIRENA!
One thing to mention.... I took Yasmin for 8 months, went off for 1 cycle and restarted for 3 months. The last 3 months (Oct, Nov & Dec 05) I was on the Yasmin were living he_ _!!! I advise you that if you stop Yasmin, DO NOT restart unless you speak with your doc and are convinced that you are OK. The pharmacist thinks that the stop/restart thing really did a number on me.
As always, thank you everyone!
Denise -- thank you - hugs back to you too!

I am so relieved to read some of these postings! My fiance has been having these spontaneous seemingly "phantom" pains since October. The first was knee pain on the outside part of both knees. He had an MRI and everything--nothing showed up. Then there was groin pain, wrist pain, and foot pain. His doctor said it was not neuropathy from diabetes. Everyone at work thinks he's faking it. The worst is currently left shoulder pain so intense he woke up crying last night, and he has a very high tolerance for pain. His prescription listed a possible side effect of "muscle aches" which prompted me to explore the lipitor issue in the first place. I noticed that the pain is very isolated and his skin is extremely sensitive to touch--has anyone else experienced this? He's seeing his doctor Wednesday for a physical, so I am anxious to see what he has to say about this theory. Thank you everyone for your postings--I feel as if I am not alone now in my suspicions....

I suffered a large MI 22/11/2003 and as well as three stents, was placed on a drug therapy that included 40mg lipitor. My life expectancy is not long and I have already exceeded expectations. on 8/12/2003 I had a left side stroke and during the next six months, the pain and immobility in my left side increased which I considered to be my fate after my stroke. I collapsed two weeks ago and was hospitalized while tests were carried out to find out the reason. I am still under review but I took this as an opportunity on discharge to stop the lipitor and see what happens. After ten days the pain in my left foot and ankle, left hip and pain in the chest almost vanished. The left shoulder pain was reduced to being almost non-existant and the lower back pain also. I could almost run upstairs now and no longer feel like a cripple. However I re-introduced a 10mg dose of Lipitor and within 24 hours the pain, discomfort and immobility were back to as bad as before. I do not intend to suffer the last few months of my life in agony and will consider other options. I am having another Liver function and cholesterol test in 10 days time. I will see what my values will show then.
