I was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole on Mon. evening for a kidney infection. After taking it for 4 days, I developed a bad pain on the left side of my neck. Later on that day had a bad muscle cramp right below the inside of my groin. About 15 min. later had another one on the back side of my left thigh. Had me crying and couldn't straighten my leg. Figure it is the medication and stopped taking it. The next day, today, my leg muscles are sore and I feel like crap.I also developed a headache on the 3rd day.

Oh my this page has made me feel like I am not going crazy. I have been on Zocor for almost a month the leg cramps started one morning with a cramp in my leg I couldn't walk the hole day. Then I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without stopping to try and relive the cramping I am a flight attendant and I thought it might have been the pressure of the plane but it continued when I wasn't working. It is a God send that I started to search this drug since this was the only thing that I could think of. There must be a kick back from the drug companies.

I am 65 yrs , very active. Play hockey, baseball, slopitch, and jog.
Started on Lipitor 10gm about 5 years ago. About 6 months later increased to 20gm. about 1 years later increased to 40 gm. Did not really notice any side effects. During that time cholesterol dropped from approx in Aug2005 to 8.01: ; Jan06 to 6.37:; Apr06 to 5.3 ; May09 @ 4.2. No problems noticed while on 40s for about 2 years.
June09 doctor increased to 80 gm !? Started to notice muscle cramps and pain . Also started to notice some stomach upsets.Thought I had strained a hamstring muscle from hard running acceleration but not sure now after reading some of the comments. Three days ago , although I always stretch for 1/2 to 3/4 an hour before every baseball which I play 4 times a week, I had very severe muscle cramps suddenly above my calf muscle just below the knee as I started to run to 1st base. I played the rest of the game but in pain and could not run hard . Could not sprint on my toes as I always did , so had to run about half speed but flat footed on the bases but painful,as we had only 9 players. Had hot shower Thursday night after game, massaged calf area with Wintercrest ointment. Got up this morning Friday , muscle sore but can walk on my toes. Tonight @ midnight slight soreness but most of the pain gone. I was thinking that I might have strained a calf muscle playing baseball but noway! I think it has to do with the doubling of the Lipitor from 40 to 80!!!! Will cut back back to 40 gm on my own till I see the doctor.
Will go to see my Doctor ASAP!!!

Less than 2 months after taking Lipitor I have been experiencing intense weakness of the legs, especially the hip area. A normally avid walker, last week really woke me up when I was unable to walk over 40 feet without having to stop from sheer leg exhaustion. I'd have to actually lean on my partner until I could manage to shuffle again- a shuffling gait is what I had to resort to just to make it back to the car.
This is bullshit because even though I've had some angina symptoms, right up until I went to the hospital I was able to hike; was still relatively strong.
So today I have spent hours researching side effects and have seen on this site alone many mentions of intense leg weakness and pain with Lipitor.
This, along with simultaneously educating myself on the truth about high cholesterol has convinced me to gradually cease taking this medication.
Instead I will replace with sufficient quantities of VitC, buckwheat combined with gingko, and of course I can never stop with the garlic because it is delicious.

I to was put on Lipitor 20mg. took it about 1 month and had such pain in my leg muscles I couldn't hardly walk . I went to my doctor he said go off it and I should start Zocor in . A month the pain was worse I couldn't even walk around the mall . I couldn't sleep at night the pain was terrible. Once again I told the doctor he said stop it and we will wait 6 weeks and start Crestor. In six weeks the pain should be gone. It didn't go away I could hardly walk at my job teaching at a Pre School. The pain unreal.I have type 2 diabetes under control for years. Still is.I was told I had arthritis. But now they tell me I have spinal stenosis. I'm on paxil for the depression they said I had and. I feel as bad now as I did 4 years ago when I was on statins. I can hardly walk, my life is pain in my muscles that never leaves and now my back. I was active and watched my weight and walked 3 miles a day. Since taking these meds. I can no longer work, go shopping or go anyplace I have to walk . I have gained a lot of weight . I have something wrong with my knee .I have tried to explain this to 3 doctors and no one listens to me. My health turned for the worse when I started taking Lipitor in 2005. I don't think I'll ever get my life back I am only 58 years old and can't work to support myself.I can't even hold my 1 month old grandson and walk or lift him from his bed. Reading all your messages . I know my health going down like this is from the statin drugs I took . When I sit , I can't walk when I stand Then .I gotta sit in 5 to 10 minutes. And the pain in my knee has progressed. No doctor wants to hear my story and believe me. Thank God I found this web site and read this for my self now I know I'm not crazy. How can I get myself better ? Will I live the rest of my life in pain, and not able to function.Every time I see a doctor they give me another pill to take. I want to just throw them all away .There must to be an answer to this.

Not sure but didn't have a problem with sugar until a month after starting Lipitor 80mg. Leg muscles feel like they are going to cramp when I move quickly and I now have much fatigue both muscles and general. AND, I now have to start Metformin for diabetes. No history of diabetes in my family and I am not much overweight and get loads of exercise. I am wondering if the Lipitor could have contributed to the diabetes?

Hi...Am 33 years and had been on prednisone for 4 months till about a month ago. It was in June last year that I was down with Viral hepatitis along with pyelonephritis. I was eventually diagnosed with Autoimmune hepatitis and therefore administered this drug with an high of 40mg for two and gradually tapered subsequently.
Two months of medicines and I had this pain in my thighs especially when I had to get up after lying sedentary. After 1.5 months subsequently the pain worsened to now include all my joints including the leg muscles. Things have really become more painful now. The gastroentorologist who put me on this drug has advised me to see a rheumatologist. Now I am torn between trying to understand whether this is a part of my treatment or my ailment (rheumatoid arthritis is also an auto immune disorder) and only praying that it is a part of the treatment.
The Doctor's have not been clear on how long this pain will persist. Regular walking, getting up, getting out of the car, turning the cap of a bottle is painful and getting worse with my ankles and knees swelling.
The moon face, the hump, the acne are all ebbing. However this pain is killing. Anybody has any idea how long the pain will last?
Thank you and best wishes to you.

first levaquin pill i took my cheeks turned blazing red and hot, so i stopped, but my family doctor pursueded me to take the rest so i obliged as she took them with no ill effects, now these were prescribed by a ENT doctor, when i told him about side effects his reply was" I'd Never prescribe anything i felt would hurt you", these doctors are oblivious to the side effects some of us do have, not everyone has side effects but if your the unlucky ones its a HUGE side effect, feeling as though your leg muscles have evaporated,( NUEROPHY maybe) struggling to walk, swollen legs and feet, legs so tight you can't even squat down, but the fingers are not swollen, no shoes will fit on my puffy ankle, feet, if you had side effects from levaquin, Stay away from ALL fluoroquinolone antibiotics, drugs in this class, used as a last resort measure, seems the old standbys have taken a back seat, theres some fast talking drug salesmen out there pushing this as SAFE SAFE,, i have found side effects can show up weeks after i quit the drug, so far i think some say takes a long time to get over, other problems can be permanent
even two months after my last levaquin my face neck, get really flushed, im way beyon hotflashes in age.
i to feel i have aged 25 yrs in the past few months all due to levaquin

After many months on Zocor, I began to experience sore knees, stiff legs and sore lower back. All at once, in about a one week period, I could no longer walk. My leg muscles were completely gone. I have been for xrays, MRI and more. I am convinced it is the zocor and have quit taking it, however after almost a month without, I still cannot walk without support. My upper body is fine..Right leg better than left leg, left leg almost useless. No more statins for this 71 year old and used to be VERY active male. I hope I can get it all back.

I am a 44 year old female with diabetes. I have high blood pressure and as a precaution was prescribed simvastian(zocor). I have only been on it for about 3 weeks...I have been feeling tired and very moody lately...but yesterday I woke up with my right leg swollen from the calf down my foot with severe burning pain and numbness. Now I have experienced Neuropathy in my left foot for years and somehow thought maybe this pain and numbness and swelling had to do with that...until this morning when I woke up to a severe pain in my right calf ( I immediately thought blood clot).. well I have a doctor's appt tomorrow to see what this is....right now Im sitting at work in so much pain and discomfort I want to cry...my feet are burning, my right leg and right shoulder are in burning pain...and my hands are numb and burning and in pain. I have to sit for hours at a time and cant just take a break when I need too...Ive only been taking this medication for 3 weeks and can not believe that all this pain and burning is from one little pill. Has anyone else had severe swelling from this medicine. Any other diabetics taking this medicine and having the same side effects? Im certain they are going to want me to stay on this medication and at this point after reading all these wonderful post, Im going to stop...Im even having difficulty in typing this post my hands hurt so bad. Im so angry that when I asked my Doctor about side effects he never mentioned these. he told me about being nauseated, constipated and so one...Ohh and I have also gained about 10 pounds in 3 weeks without changing my eating habits...anyone else have that? Thank you for letting me vent here. I was scared to death until I found this site. I was seriously considering leaving work and going to the ER room...Now Im just going to stop taking it and waiting this out till tomorrow....

I found this web site while searching side effect of Singulair. My Son - 7 years old is experiencing same issue - Severe random leg pain in both legs or 1 leg as mentioned by few others. He can not walk when it happened and I have to carry him. The pain disappear in 2-3 days or sometimes it takes 5-6 days.
We did X-Ray and doc could not find anything wrong.
Others..who are facing same issue...I would appreciate if u can send me an email to ****** so that we can talk in detail.

I have been on lipitor about 4 yrs. I am a runner and keep tract of my times. I have been losing about 4% of my speed each year and have recently had a large amount of muscle fatigue. Today a ran a 940 pace and thought I was not going to make it home. Three years ago my average pace was 805. Could the 20mg dosage be causing this problem?

I am actually crying as I had no idea what was wrong with me. I have been on Lisionopril now for about 5 years at 40 mg/day.
During those five years I have been fatigued, suffered with GERD, dry cough. Of course my doc said to lose weight.
Last month I went on a diet and all hell broke loose. I lost 25 lbs and I don't know if the weight loss released all of those Lisionopril toxins or what but here goes:
Fatique, weakness, arm and leg muscle pain, absolutely no sex drive, rib cage pain, back pain, perceived shortness of breath. Heart palpitations, dry cough with mucus. I have a lump in my throat. It got so bad I went to the ER , they drew labs and my BP was elevated. They added labetalol to the lisinopril. I came across this site and I called my doctor and I told him that I wasn't taking lisinopril anymore. I feel as if I am having a slow death. I cant function, I cant work, I am panicky and nervous.
He said to monitor my pressure with 2x/day with the Labetalol.
I was on the maximum dose and I wonder how long will it take for this poison to leave my body. I can't believe what this medicine is made from. I am more than willing to lose weight and do anything to stop taking these poisons. I would love to hear your experiences. I need all the support that I can get.
I just don't understand the sudden exacerbation of all of the symptoms unless it is the weight loss. But my BP never went down even with the weight loss.

I had surgery in August, 2006 for Endometriosis, and a Lupron injection 2 wks later. That one injection changed my life. Even though it was a year and a half ago, I'm still feeling the effects. Which is what brought me to this site -- I'm searching for an answer.
These were/are my symptoms:
-- I experienced immediate and increasing hot flashes that lasted for nearly 6 mos.
-- Extreme fatigue and the "activativation" of Epstein Barr Virus. I started sleeping 18-20 hrs/day and lost my career job because of it.
-- Cognitive dysfunction, memory loss, loss of concentration, etc.
-- Blurred vision (and I have otherwise perfect vision!)
-- To date, I have gained 40 lbs that will not budge no matter what my diet!
-- I have severe muscle weakness and burning (such as if I go up a
flight of stairs). Muscle atrophy and stiffness.
-- My joints (hips, knees, feet) hurt and I have a lot of back pain.
-- I have TMJ quite badly and it causes my arms to go numb.
Last year my doctor ordered a hair analysis for heavy metal poisoning -- and my levels were off the charts. I've read that Lupron is suspended in thimerosol, or mercury, and that raises a host of issues that I'd like to research, if anyone has info on that.
Today, I am doing much better in terms of being out of bed and active, but I am unable to lose the weight, despite an organic, all natural, gluten/dairy/sugar/corn/soy/caffeine/etc. free diet! My belly is always bloated and big.
I am really active, but I tire easily and still haven't been able to get over that "hump", as it were, and really exert myself. Before my surgery and the Lupron and the EBV, I was an avid dancer. It is my passion and I can hardly do it at all now. I cannot swim a full lap in a pool without my leg muscles burning.
I have read of some people having good experiences with Lupron, but I have read far more horrifying ones. Part of me doesn't want to accept that Lupron is the cause of what I'm experiencing...could it really be that simple? And part of me is happy to shed the burden of guilt that "I must just not be trying hard enough" in exchange for an outside cause. I guess research and knowledge is the best medicine in this case. =}

Wow! So glad and sad to find other sufferers. I wish our doctors would listen to us and take us seriously! Why are they stuck on forcing Synthroid on us? At this point, I think I'd rather not take any Synthroid. I stumbled upon this site while looking for something I might take to counteract the effects of Synthroid. I had to halve my 112 mg pills because of the side effects: frequents headaches, bloating, weight gain, irritability and anxiety, dry mucus membranes (eyes, nose, throat, etc.), allergies, muscle fatigue, achy joints. Of course, my doctor is slowly upping the dosage again, because my TSH is chronically high, but I feel like sh*t, physically and mentally. I used to feel so much more normal and like myself before I was diagnosed and "forced" to take Synthroid.

I am a 41 year old male that has BP averaging 140/90 and spikes that were extremely hi 190/125 (which landed me in th ER). Lisinopril 10MG was prescribed last Friday. My BP came down immediately yesterday 111/75 today 109/69. That is the only good thing. I have a headache, dizziness, feel disoriented, had urges to urinate and nothing would happen. Yesterday while trying to walk, wash my trailer, or even chew a piece of gum whatever muscle I was using became soar immediately. They felt as if I had run a marathon or something. Today after one flight of stairs to get to my office I was short of breath and my leg muscles hurt. I had to go lay down at lunch because this stuff makes me so tired. It is like I have been poisoned. As I'm typing my fingers hurt and the metal taste in my mouth has me thinking I want to trash this stuff. The doctor says they haven't herd of these side effects and and they said to cut the pill in half.

I also have been having muscle problems in my legs. My leg muscles have
become weak, and I have difficulty walking up steps. I used to run a lot, but had to stop several times (for months) because I felt I had no energy. Muscle
soreness, as well as various radiating pains, also are a problem. I'm, 49 years old, but I don't believe these problems are due to normal wear and tear. I do know all of these symptoms began to appear after I had been taking Niaspan for at least several months. Thanks, M. Gray

About 3 years ago my doctor precribed Libitor for mr to help reduce my high cholesterol. After about 3 months I started having these sharp pains in my legs. So another trip to the doctor and he prescribed a pain medicine. The pain medicine didn't help. So, I read about the side affects of Lipitor and there it was. I stopped talking the Lipitor, the sharp pains are gone but my legs muscles are weak and ache. I've tried pain medicine, theropy, walking and riding bicycles trying to build up my muscle tissue. Nothing works. Now I'm getting to the point of not wanting to do anything because weak and painful leg muscles. Has anyone found something that workd?

I am a 34 yo healthy woman that was prescribed Levaquin for Bacterial Abscess. First a 10 day supply, then the abscess reoccurred so I requested a second 10 day supply. I then had a surgery to resolve recurrent abscess within the second day course. I did not have any reaction until my second post op night when I thought I fell asleep with my arms "tucked in" or"under". The thought was not unlikely as I was also on oxycodone 2q4hrs. At any rate surgery over, off abx now 4 days arms still feel tight and sore. Hands feel 15 times the normal size yet my rings still fit. My leg muscles feel hard but not unmanageable yet. I kept thinking that it was from being sedentary, I am the type who falls asleep when I finally stop moving. I wake at 5 and literally lay down to sleep at 11 or so brief periods of stting. I thought my muscles hurt from inactivity, but that did not explain the joint discomfort. I have had no change for better or worse although it has only been 4 days. I find that working on the "stiffness" helps with the discomfort but when waking it is very uncomfortable.
stiffness,joint pain ,muscle tenderness,depression,neck pain.

I am a 54 year old male who was put on Lipitor by my Dr to treat cholesterol levels of 6 to 6.5 around august 2007. I used the drug through until early Jan 2008 when I started to notice continuous muscle pain and injuries especially in my lower back buttocks and arms. I constantly had tingling/burning sensations in my large leg muscles, finger tips and hands. My eyesight was deteriorating rapidly and I had a constantly fuzzy brain which was hard to focus and concentrate. I thought that I had rapid onset Alzheimer's or similar. I was finding difficulty controlling/getting nerve instructions to muscles such as bowels, prostate, mouth. My Wife accused me of slurring words and my balance became unstable and I had a series of minor falls.
I started to wonder about my medication and as I only used two and Lipitor was the newer one of the two I stopped taking it. With in Five days most of the symptoms were disappearing or rapidly improving. After ten days I decided to reintroduce Lipitor and within four days they were all rapidly returning. It was at this point that I started to do a lot of research and found all of the sites highlighting the varied side effects attributed to this drug. None of which had I been informed of by my doctor or Pharmacist and most of which I was experiencing. Needless to say I now no longer take the drug and most things have returned or are returning to normal including the eyesight, balance and nerve control. This drug needs to be withdrawn from use before too many people suffer lasting debilitating damage or even worse, death.

Three weeks after taking Lisinopril (10mg 1x) I developed a severe back ache that migrated to my lower right front section. I started having problems with the strength in my leg muscles to the point that I could no longer walk without the fear of falling. Two weeks after I stopped taking Lisinopril, the back and lower stomach problems went away and I can now walk 20 feet but still have problems with balance. I still can not walk ujp any stairs or lift my leg more than 1 inch. Never had this problem before I took Lisinopril. I have not been able to work now for 2 months.
