Singulair is bad!! I have posted this before in October but just noticed the posting is no longer there??? My son is 4 and had horrible side effects. He has been medically cleared by 3 different physicians and everything leads back to the Singulair. We have a happy loving home, no stress than normal everyday stuff. He does great in his catholic school setting. He literally was as almost as a picture perfect kid as you could get. He was only on Singulair. About 2 months ago things started to happen. Unexplained fevers of always 102 or higher, severe headaches, seeing colors, joint and leg pain, stomach aches, sleep walking, night terrors, bad nail biting habit, depression, extremely emotional, chronic sinus infections, poor appetite, and weight loss. He just simply looked lethargic all the time. He missed school, fun activities and simply started to loose interest in things. I too knew something was wrong. The pediatrician thought I was too a hypochondriac. Then one night he had an emotional break down. He said things no 4 year old should ever think let alone say. Like he wanted to hurt us with knifes, he didn't love anyone, he hated Jesus. All along while crying because he did not understand why he felt this way. He wanted to die he said! I was so devastated. His teacher and our family could not believe the night and day difference in him. He was so happy and such a nurturing child to others. Now he simply had no emotion. You could look right through him. So after several doctors and psychiatrist they have concurred that the Singulair has thrown his Serotonin off. So he now has this chemical imbalance that we are working through with a psychiatrist who our insurance does not cover but is the best. All the other physical symptoms have subsided, he eats like a horse now, and no more nail biting, headaches or fevers. HMM coincidence... I think not!!! I have tried very hard to get the word out. I have had so much response just via private email that my friends have forwarded and so on. This is not isolated incidences. We are just the lucky ones to have discovered this website. Imagine those kids and adults that are still suffering. I work on an ambulance and i can tell you we had a 4 year old boy have a seizure out of the blue with no recent illness or history. Guess what med he was one??? Write every health official, contact the FDA, attorney general. Seriously this is the only way things will change!!

My 6-year-old was put on Singulair by an allergist after he had allergy testing in October. He first came down with a sinus infection in June and was treated with an antibiotic by our family physician, but the miserable clear snotty nose continued all summer long into September. I had to help him blow it just about every time. I presume it was mold since the mold counts were extremely high here in Virginia this summer. After two months of waiting for an appointment, we finally got in to have allergy testing performed. A week before seeing the allergist, I got frustrated with the whole mess and him missing school so I took him back to the family doctor and she prescribed Allegra suspension (new for kids) and it actually seemed to help a lot!

Well, his allergy testing proved he was allergic to all kinds of molds, cats, dust mites, pine and sweet gum trees, and ragweed. The allergy doctor for sure wanted to blame it on our German shepherds, so he did the intradermal test to double check but the dogs allergy was negative twice.
So, the Dr. decided to try some Singulair 5 mg at bedtime along with the Allegra and told us to mite-proof all his bedding, etc.

I kept my son on the Singulair for about 3 weeks of hell until I put 2 and 2 together. Every morning he was complaining of stomach aches, headaches, leg aches, not wanting to go to school, doing very poorly in school, lethargic, not participating, not concentrating, pulling answers out of his head instead of working out the problems (teacher told me he was lazy...big mistake...that really ticked me off.) I know my child! P.S. She is being observed very carefully by my husband and me as well as the principal and school resource teacher. I attribute this attitude to her youth and having no kids of her own.

Sorry for the long story, but after finding this website while searching for symptoms I had with another snake oil (lisinopril), I decided to research the Singulair side effects everyone has written about and everything just clicked with me. I took him off the Singulair about two weeks ago, and no more complaints of stomach aches, not wanting to go to school, etc.
I asked the teacher during the teacher conference how he behaved last week at school and she said he did wonderfully and participated in class and wasn't lethargic. His grades were even better. I still give him Allegra and that alone seems to do the trick. He is still a little moody though. I sure hope it's not the Allegra doing that to him.

We go back to the allergist at the end of November for follow up and he is going to get an earful! Hopefully with the seasons changing, my little boy's allergies will be better. The snotty noses have almost dried up completely on the Allegra alone. I don't think Singulair should ever have been approved for use in children!!!!

I was on Yasmin for about 7 weeks. The first couple weeks seemed fine, just queezy stomach and some headaches. Then, when I was supposed to be PMSing, I became so lethargic and depressed I could barely function. I laid in bed for 2 days not eating, thinking my world was going to fall apart. I only had energy enough to do a small chore at home (like bathe or brush my teeth) then crawl back into bed. The worst is that, normally if I get down I know deep down it will pass and there's a light at the end of the tunnel. But with Yasmin, my brain is foggy and I feel like there's no hope, w the lack of energy is even more depressing because I can't motivate to do anything and get my mind off my worries. Now I can understand why people get suicidal on Yasmin. There's no reason for me to be so tired, I lift weights 3 times a week and w a trainer (luckily or I would never be motivated to get there), I'm lean and muscular and healthy. Well, after the PMS I never got my period either.
Then after freaking out for a few days (and at my poor boyfriend) I was more mellow for the next couple weeks but still nausea and headaches. Then 2nd month PMS started... same thing, just overwhelmingly depressed and unable to reason it away or snap out of it. I've lost my temper a few times. My energy level is so low I just want to lay in bed all day. Now I just figured out that it was because of Yasmin. I was beginning to worry that I was loosing my mind. I really wanted to stick it out another month to see if they would go away but at this rate I'm going to be in a mental ward by that time.

I admit that I may be prone to get depressed, however, I don't take anti-depressents (I tried Wellbutrin a few yrs. ago and it made me very high strung and irritable). I've figured out lifestyle changes to manage when i get down. I just do things that I enjoy when I get down. But Yasmin has made it so that I don't enjoy life, and I don't even have the energy to work out, go out with people so I can get my mind off of my gloom and doom. It's horrible what Yasmin has done, I have never experienced depression like this and I've been down some tough roads in my life. I always have an inner hope and light in me that keeps me going, and what I'm experiencing with Yasmin is that it kills any voice of hope or optimism leaving one disoriented and afraid. I have been off of it for the 2nd day now and hope things start to clear up soon. Good luck with your experience and I hope this helps... even now, I'm not sure if it really IS Yasmin or me, but I believe the posts people have written so I want to X Yasmin out of my life so I KNOW that no drug is making me this way.

I am 43 years old and I do have one child. I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for approximately 7 months and I will discontinue after this pack. I took BC pills several years ago and resumed recently to help alleviate my increasingly long periods. I was a personal trainer for sometime and have always worked out, ate sensibly and kept my weight at a normal level...until now. I have gained approximately 10 pounds on this pill. I now have "muffin tops" as my daughter so eloquently told me and I feel like I am in a continuous state of pregnancy! I am bloated, irritable, depressed and I bleed at any given time. Not to mention lethargic! I have NO ENERGY. I would much rather have the lenghy periods and deal with PMS for 7 to 10 days per month versus feeling like this 30/31 days per month. It's bad enough getting older and realizing that my metabolism is not the same as it used to be...I just don't want any help!

I have been on the NR for about a year and a half. I have gained about 15 lbs. which until today I have blamed on my fiance because of his eating habits. Now I think my insanely large appetite may have something to do with the NR. I have also become much more lethargic and "down".

Last week I decided not to continue using the NR and I've been sleeping like crazy. I am waiting for my sex drive to return and for my energy to increase.

What are the typical side effects when you stop using it?

My experience with Yasmin was teriible. I am 22 years old and this is my first BCP. I am in the military and have a very jumpy period. I skip months at a time. My doctor put me on progesterone pills for 10 days to boost my estrogen so that my period would come. Talk about an emotional ten days. After my cycle was over I started Yasmin. I was only taking these pills for a week and I was always tired, lethargic, depressed, had horrible mood swings and no sex drive. I didnt want to do anything but sleep. I felt bloated and desgusting. Between the estrogen and these pills I felt a significant change in my personality and didint like it at all. I threw out a six month supply and after only being off of them a few days I am much happier and getting back to normal. STAY AWAY FROM YASMIN!!!

Was put on Toprol XL while in the hospital. Taking 50 mg along with 50 mg of Vasotec. Discontinued the Vasotec because of cough. Put on Cozaar. Dr also prescribed hydrochlorothiazide which I decided not to take. For a month I was lethargic, no appetite or thirst, worsened sleep problems, and MAJOR depression. Started to research and decided it was the Toprol. On Wednesday I cut the dosage in half, by Saturday I started feeling more like my old self. By the following Wednesday I was back to normal as far as I could tell. Cut the dosage in half again and a week later, stopped Toprol all together. Best decision I ever made!!!!!

I am a 51 year old healthy male. Was on Vytorin for nine months, but finally noticed I was getting really lethargic, was weak ( I used to be able to run on a treadmill for 30 minutes at 6 mi/hr, but finally could barely muster 10 minutes), had bouts of blurred vision, and a nasty tingling and pain that developed in my right foot causing me to limp. I had developed night sweats and cramping in my foot and legs. I was feeling like a 70 year old man in a 51 year old body, neglecting many of the things I normally like to do. I was just too tired. All this slowly developed and I did not put 2 and 2 together until I finally decided it had to be the Vytorin. I quit for a week, told the doc all my symtoms except the foot tingling were better. He said, lets try pravachol, 80mg instead since cholesterol of 180, 40 for HDL was still too high! One week on Pravachol was all I could take. All the symptoms came back and even worse. Now he wants to put me on Zocor. Says this is all "trial and error" to find the right combo. I am afraid I have nerve damage from this drug in my foot and I don't think the side effects are worth the decreased cholesteral count. I'd rather have a heart attack and die quick than suffer a long slow fall to become a total invalid by continuing to take these statin drugs. They are poisons, plain and simple.

I am just finishing my 2nd month of this pill. I have been on numerous BC’s since the age 17. I have had some good ones and some bad ones but usually the side effects that caused me to go off the pills was cramping and/or spotting. Recently I had been on Yasmin (not Yaz) for about 4 years. In the past year I had gotten over 10 yeast infections due to the Yasmin. Prior to this past year though, Yasmin was great. Anyway, my GYN switched me to this and I am on my second month. The first month it was like I had my period everyday for the month. I truly don’t know when I actually had my period. My poor husband, I kept telling him “I think I have my period again.” Then when I thought it was gone b/c nothing for a few days, it would come back. But I decided to stick it out. I called my GYN and the nurse said “try to stick it out for three months, it usually gets better.” So I am. And this month, its starting again. I am suppose to get my period in a week but 3 days ago I started bleeding again. But I also have been feeling very lethargic, depressed and I have gained weight. I actually did not even think it was because of the change in the pill until I came across this website today. But I truly have many of the same symptoms you all are talking about. Mostly, the tiredness, weight gain and depressed feeling. But I have others. I have NEVER been over 135lbs in my life now I am at 140 and I haven’t changed a thing. I certainly could exercise more, but that hasn’t changed. In fact, I have been trying to eat LESS to lose this weight but I keep going up. Now I am thinking it may be due to this pill. I am glad I came across this website. I am going to go to my GYN before the next month and say I want off. The one good thing is… I haven’t had a yeast infection since being on this pill! I was getting two a month at times! I am truly glad I came across this website or else I would have never known. Thank you all for sharing your comments about your experiences (both positive and negative).

I was prescribed Doxycycline to treat PID - Pelvic Inflammatory Disease - 100mg once daily.

After 5 days, my symptoms were not impoving. I had been bleeding and cramping for 11 days, so I phoned my Doctor back with my complaints and he prescribed an additional antibiotoc - Amoxyllin.

The Doxycycline side effects I've noticed are weird.

First side effect was a tingling in my lower lip, like a fizzy feeling. This wasn't unpleasant, just very strange.
I have also been feeling groggy and lethargic, and am feeling depressed. I'm really teary, my mood is low and have little energy.

My throat feels like it's a bit blocked also.

I have another week to go until I'm finished them, I know I must complete the course, and I'm counting down the days.

Doxycycline is not my friend. :(

I have been taking Singulair for allergies for about 4 months now. I have been feeling very lethargic, achy, crabby and out of sorts for the last couple of months. I have also had an upset stomach, nausea and cold sweats here and there. I never really got headaches before taking this medication. I have been getting headaches every day as well. In addition to all of the fun stuff I listed above I have also noticed a bit of weight gain and bloating, but it's difficult to pin that definitively to the Singulair. I have a scheduled doctor's appointment next week to asses the situation.

It just occured to me today to look up the side effects of Singulair, as it is the only medication I am currently taking. Upon reading other people's stories on this site and contrasting them to my own symptoms I think I am going to discontinue use of this medication. I have factored in other influences in my life and I have not had any changes in stress levels or other outside influences to attribute the symptoms I am experiencing.

Thank you to everyone for posting!

I took Prednisone for an allergic reaction to a Bee bite that turned into cellulites after a few days. My arm and leg swelled up to the point where I had to go into the emergency room. They put me on a prednisone drip and then prescribed prednisone for 10 days tapering down from 60 mg a day to 10 mg a day.
I felt horrible on it! Could not think straight, massive headaches everyday to the point where I could not go to work! Then once I went down from 30mg to 20mg a day, the with drawl that your body gets is the worst!
Nassau, more headaches and forget about thinking straight! and yes your face does look like a moon after a few days... Try drinking a lot of water
Now I am on my 2nd day with out it and I still feel the side affects but I hope they will go away soon :(
This drug works but I hope I never take it again.

I started taking Wellbutrin three weeks ago. I had been taking Zoloft for four years and it had been working fine except my insurance company tripled the cost and I was beginning to have to take more to get the same results. I thought Wellbutrin might be good alternative after doing some research and my doctor thought it would be good for me to try out. Well, since I have been taking Wellbutrin I have become emotional (wanting to cry at things I would never cry at before), more irritable, my husband says "I am not the same person", dizzy, two sips of a beer gave me a horriable headache which lasted until the next morning, I had to sit down on a bench at the mall because I felt like I was going to faint, and worse of all my brain became very "fuzzy" feeling. It was like my short term memory was damaged. I am taking a Spanish class and was doing well (A's). After I started taking Wellbutrin I could not concentrate enough in class to learn, even saying to my professor, "please skip me, I am not feeling well". It was humiliating. I have maintained a 4.0 in every class I have taken since 1999 and completed a masters degree last year. So, all in all-this was my experience. Maybe if I had taken it longer, it would have been different, but it was like torture for me. One positive note....I felt absolutely no internal depression after a week of taking it (other than being upset about the other symptoms). It worked really well in that area.....so, maybe if others do not have all the symptoms I experienced, it would be a very good drug to take for depression-just not for me!

my 10 month-old was prescribed Omnicef suspension 5ml a day for a lingering cold that turned into a sinus infection, before that she had taken amoxicillin for ear infection.
took it for 10 days, was ok. 2 days after finishing taking the medication, she started her diarrhea/loose stool (no more than 2-3-4 BMs a day, just loose, runny, mucousy, light yellow (like yolk+sour cream mix)-green-ish color.
7 days into the diarrhea some black residue, filament/dill-like came out in the stool for three days. all this time the baby had been eating rice cereal, toast, and formula. What I'm saying is those things came out of her body, wasn't something she had eaten. Yesterday was the 10th day of loose stool, and took her to the ped. was prescribed Lactinex to restore stomach bacteria.
All this time the baby was not herself: waking up and crying at night (cramping, aching?), very clingy and whiny, turning her head at the sight of the solid food (rice regimen), lethargic at times, irritable, mood swings, sticking tongue out (dry mouth?), shuddering, crying when touched, picked up, put down on her feet to stand, her runny nose is back.
Last night she woke up at 2.30A CRYING in terror, lasted for about 2 hours on and off, by 5.30A was up and never gone back to sleep. She usually sleeps 12 hrs solid 7P-7A. She also had a BM- first in 36 hrs-which was the opposite of what she's been having for 10 days- hard, and some loose around, and a patching compound consistency, porous and sandy... She may have woken because of bloating, cramping, difficulty passing the stool. But the crying continued after she relieved herself.
Had I known about the side effects, or this forum before..I would have stopped the medication... Although it may have been difficult since the full-blown symptoms kicked in 2 days after finishing the 10 day Omnicef regimen.
If there is ever an FDA complaint to take this med off the market for good or for further testing, sign me in...

I had extreme stomach bloating and was starting to think I had ovarian cancer or something. I could only eat a little at a time or I'd be so bloated and couldn't breathe. I had 2 lung infections, terrible feet and leg cramps and I also had neck and behind the ear pain, but thought something was out in my neck. I quit using Advair 2 months ago, and now that I come to think of it, my neck and ear pain is gone, and I'm sure I've lost at least 5 lbs. off of my stomach. I also had a very raspy throat and awful sores inside of my mouth for a few months, but attributed it to not gargling every time I used Advair. I started rinsing my mouth out better and the raspy throat did improve, but the mouth sores were always there no matter how much I rinsed. Another thing that has come to me lately is that I don't feel nearly as lethargic and depressed as I did, but never thought of it being the Advair. Reading everyone's side effects, it explains a lot of odd maladies I seemed to be suffering that I don't seem to be bothered by now. I used Advair for over 2 years every day. I will never use it again.

I am having my Mirena removed in 12 days! (and counting every one). I have a question for those that already had theirs removed and were troubled by weight gain while they had it: What has been your experience since its been out? Losing weight now? Staying the same? Are the weird cravings gone? Do you feel less lethargic and more motivated to exercise? I would love to hear some success stories, as my daughter is almost 16 mos. old and thanks to my Mirena, I'm now weigh about as much as I did at 7 mos. pregnant! No matter what I do, I keep gaining. I'm about 50 pounds over my (realistic, healthy) goal weight, about 25 over my pre-pregnancy weight. Anyone with some encouragement?

I have had the mirena for almost 2 1/2 years, it was not too bad to begin with although I did develop a bartholins cyst which I was told could have been due to this coil being fitted, not very pleasant I can tell you! Anyway, apart from feeling a bit tired and nauseus every 3 months or so it was not too bad for the first year, but since then my symptoms just seem to be there almost all the time. I even tested for pregnancy earlier this week because I feel so nauseus particularly on waking up in the morning, I also feel lethargic, have lower abdominal pain, difficulty concentrating, dizzy spells, constant discharge, very sore breasts, hot flushes at night and cold spells at any time of the day, I could go on. I eat healthily, train at karate 4 times per week, had my blood pressure taken in Asda this week 112/83 which I am told is good. So, I have come to the conclusion that with time this coil is making me feel unwell, I could never take the pill as it made me feel awful and I tried the injection which made me feel even worse. Nothing else for it, I have 4 children already, I can't have any more, it would not be practical or fair to my family, so I am going to be sterilised (if I can get my doctor to agree). I also need to get my doctor to agree to remove this coil, I am not taking no for an answer, I know my body and I am 99.9% sure that it is the Mirena that is causing the problems.

YAZ: I've been on Yaz for about a year after taking Yasmine for a year or two, and I have been feeling very lethargic for the past few months. I'll sleep fine, but after waking up in the morning about three hours later, I'm wiped out again. I've also been having heartburn and dry eyes-don't know if those are related. Has anyone had new or worse side effects after being on Yaz for a year or more?

I did a six month stint of the Lupron shots as a treatment for severe endometriosis. The entire experience was horrible. At first I was sick to my stomach for days on end. This fluctuated on and off for the duration. Shortly after my mom started noticing intense fluctuations in my mood. I don't know that there is any way to describe it other than I felt like I was going crazy. All I wanted to do was rage and scream and fight for reason what so ever. I was also extremely lethargic for long periods of time. When the lethargy finally wore off I would be so manic that I would have overwhelming attacks of anxiety. About one month into the treatment my hair started falling out in clumps. By the time the treatment was over I had lost half the thickness of my hair. I was so miserable that my own family didn't want to be around me.

I started taking 20mg Lipitor 10 years ago, when I was 53 yrs old, as I had a heart attack from unstable agina and high cholestrol. For most of this time I have suffered aches and pains, excema on my hip and stomach areas and severe leg cramps. For the past 12 months I have felt lethargic, in a 'switched off and isoloated'' frame of mind with painful hand joints and foot swelling. My eyesight has deteriorated quickly and I feel plain OLD!! After reading other people's experiences I am going to stop taking lipitor/statins immediately and monitor any change carefuly.

Well I never have been on birthcontrol so I didn't really know what to think of some of the symptoms. But about 30 minutes after taking my pill I start to feel drastically lethargic, useless, my head feels so heavy that it could fall over, and I feel like I coudl throw up at any moment. I have lost all of my sex drive, which isn't a good thing since I am about to get married. Acne hasn't gotten worse or better, it's still pretty normal. I just feel really week,a dn my head throbs I don't know what to do. I mean if I take pain Killers then it makes my nausea just that much worse. What can I do?

Leg swelling, bad feeling of being flushed-hot-in head area-numbness of tongue or burning sensation of tongue and lethargic too. What is this?
Since taking Actos, I have gained weight and want to eat all the time.
I am diabetic and also on Lipitor, Metaformin, Starlix, and water pills.
Are any of these drugs interacting poorly for me? I was put on Actos because my sugar would not go down.

My experience with Yasmin was horrible. I originally was on it when I was 18, and it was great. No side effects whatsoever. I'm 23 now. I stopped taking it approximately 3 years ago. When my doctor recently prescribed it to me, I was excited because of the positive experience I had once had. WOW! I only took it for a week before I stopped completely. Everyday I woke up not only with a headache...I woke up with a severe migraine. I was nauseous constantly, eventually leading to either diarrhea or vomiting. I was completely lethargic. The worst side effect of them all had to have been my complete and total mood change. I was barking at my friends, co-workers, and boyfriend. They ALL noticed a change in my demeanor from Day 1. I'm not on any other type of medication, so there was no reaction to any other chemical in my body. I felt so sick, I even missed work for 3 out of those 7 days. Once I stopped taking it, my original symptoms have gone away completely. I am experiencing a little breakthough bleeding, but my headaches have stopped, no more nausea, and I'm back to my old self. I just wanted to share this with you so that I may help some other woman feel a little less crazy, as the other testimonials have done for me. Thanks!
