Hi everyone, I’m 24 years old and had healthy periods prior to starting Loestrin 24. I just stopped taking the pill yesterday after 2.5 packs. Although it’s recommended to stick with any pill for three months before making a decision, it’s just not worth it to me. Here are my observations. The first month on the pill I was extremely moody and scarily depressed. Although I can get frustrated easily, normally I would keep that frustration to myself and get over it. After about two weeks on the pill I was overreacting to nearly everything, I cried all too easily, and unfortunately I lashed out at those close to me when something wasn’t to my liking. All of which I thought was totally rational at the time, and only later did I regretfully play back certain incidents in my head and wonder why I had been so upset. I have a fairly demanding job with long hours and stress both at work and at home with my roommate. The best way I’ve found to cope with that stress and to keep my sanity is through regular exercise. Again, within the first month of being on the pill my energy dropped drastically, and I felt lethargic nearly all the time. Even getting up from my chair and going to the bathroom while at work seemed like too much effort (and I used to relish going to the bathroom just for a break from my desk). That said, I forced (and I mean forced!) myself to continue my regular exercise routine, because my sanity was already waning. In fact I found this forum in that first month because I was trying to figure out why I was so lethargic, and wanted to know if that was a common side effect of this pill. What else? I developed a ravenous hunger. I constantly thought about food (especially sweets). I already have an unhealthy sweet tooth, but prior to the pill I had some semblance of self control, but I lost that while on this pill. My breasts got bigger (which is nice although they’re sore all the time), but luckily I wouldn’t say I’ve gained too much weight. My lower abdomen, however, started looking bloated and distended. What I found really bothersome was that I never felt satiated. I would eat and eat and eat, and when I should have been full, I’d already be thinking about other things to shovel in my mouth. It was hard to think about all the food I had eaten through the course of a day, and yet not ever feel satisfied. And here is my biggest complaint: during the first month on the pill I spotted on and off, but I had read that that was normal and as promised, I had a very short period. That was nice. After the second week of my second pack of the pill I was bike riding with a friend and felt distinctive period cramping. I dismissed the sensation since I was mid-pack. When I got home and went to the bathroom there was a glob of fresh blood in my underwear. I then continued to bleed (not heavily) for about two weeks until I hit the placebo pills and had my period. That really really pissed me off, especially because I had planned a camping trip with my boyfriend during a time that I shouldn’t have been bleeding. Anyway, I was almost ready to go off the pill, but decided to give it one more month. I started my third pack and everything was basically hunky dory (despite the ever present hunger, sore breasts…etc.), and then one morning I went to the bathroom and found that I had started spotting again…less than two weeks into the pack. I said f*&# it. I’ve never liked the idea of introducing hormones into my body, and I really don’t like not ovulating. I went on the pill because I wasn’t ready for an IUD. Now I am. I had come to accept a lot of side effects on this pill, but bleeding for two weeks straight is not OK. I bet my body would have eventually caught on to the routine, but I’d rather try a different method, and I’d rather get back to ovulating normally.

Hi! I had mirena after my first child in March. Everything was going great so I thought. I spotted like the doc said I would. The 28 and 29th of July I was in the hospital for fever, chills, severe headaches, back pain, neck pain, & stomach cramps. They did blood work, cultures, X-ray. & ultrasound come to find out it was Mirena the little piece of shit plastic. I called my doctor and told her and she told me it's infected because I have caught a sexual transmitted disease. That would be hard to do seeing that I haven't had sex in 1 YEAR!! I was pissed that she would say that when I told her I haven't and she got rude and said that. I have no reason to lie about it, but when the dad leaves and you have the child I don't have time for nothing but her. My OBGYN doesn't have kids what does she know! I advise no one to get mirena it's not worth it. I am still recovering taking meds. The DOC at the hospital said my body just rejected it!

Has anyone had any luck regrowing there hair?

I used Nuva Ring about a year ago and decided to stop using it due to major mood swings, (Going from laughing to crying in a split second) but I recently decided to try it again, as I liked the conveinence of it and the fact that it's the only birth control I've used that hasn't made me gain weight. Well, I've had the ring in for about 2 weeks now and I'm not liking it!!! I've been feeling extremely fatigued, nauseas, constipated, experiencing heartburn, having brown spotting and abdominal cramping. I don't know if I should keep this thing in or take it out. Right now, I'm feeling sooo nauseas I'm contemplating going to the hospital.

2 weeks on Topamax and really ill with the fact beer tasted like liking metal. So I drank a few liquor drinks for the fourth of July- I only drink probably once every three to four weeks when we get together with friends. Got violently sick after four drinks- throwing up. Never done that before- so I guess soda, alcohol and food are out of my life- Wonder if I can tell my husband NO SEX is a side-effect because it will cause violent bouts of vomitting. Smile- what a trade off- migraines daily or side effects?????? Damned if you do- damned if you don't- but on a brighter note- these are things I can live with unlike cancer, parkinson disease etc. Just wondering if anyone else having marked side effect from drinking alcohol while taking the topamax?

I was proscribed Yasmin for acne problems but straight away, I experienced nausea. I didn't take a liking to it at all because it constantly made me want to vomit all the time. But still, I was willing to trial it to treat my acne. After about a month of using it, the vomiting sensation didn't go away. Does anyone else experience the same problem? Finally, I gave it up altogether and switched to Diane35. I found Diane35 a much better treatment for acne without the vomiting side affects.

when people complain about not liking certain posts or could you not communicate with each other so much anything like that creates a negative vibe and these women who have been coming here for months trying to help us might not want to post certain things becuase it might not be as cut and dry as some might prefer so be careful not to deter anyone from feeling free to comment about what ever they feel is helpful

My 11 month old daughter just started Omnicef for an ear infection, she has an allergy to pennicillins so this was an alternate. She has had 2 doses and already I am not liking this drug. She has had a dark marroon colored stool and when I contacted my doctor's office the nurse said she did not think this to be a common side effect. We are waiting for her to speak to the doctor and return a call to us in the morning. They said to stop the drug until further notice. After reading all the enteries on this wedsite, I am thinking when they call in the morning I am going to request that my daughter be put back on the medication we were given last time to treat an ear infection. Thank you for all your enteries, it's nice to have this. The doctors and disclaimers about side effects don't seem to have as much insight as us as parents have.

I have been struggling with sinus allergies/sinus irritations for about twenty years. I was also diagnosed with CFS. I have had 3 sinus surgeries, tried many different meds/herbs, and many other therapies. Tried about every antihistamine and antidepressant. Two-months ago I complained about sinus headaches and was given ultracet. This not only took care of the headache, but my nose cleared up significantly; I felt like I could breath. It has changed my life more than anything I have previously done. I feel great. I take 1-2 pills about every 3-4 days. If take too late in day can't sleep. I have had lortab and other painkillers on rare occasion and never had a liking for them. Ultracet has given me new energy and a life. Again, I feel that I have tried everything with little help. I am a mental health professional and I feel my job performance has dramatically improved. Just positive side effects for me!!!!!

I have been on Effexor for about 2 months now,, before that I was on Paxil for about a year and bit..... When I was on the Paxil............ it was not very nice,,,,,,,, especially when I tried to come off of it... I was moody,,, and just did not feel right.. When my doctor switch me to Effexor I had no side effects cause I went from Paxil to Effexor.

I now want to come off of the Effexor cause I am having troubling getting back to a normal working environment... I have apply for two jobs and both of them I got some Anxiety over them and had to refuse them both.

To me this is not normal... cause before all the medication I had great working skills.... and now I have not been at a job for about 17 months now.

The medication has helped me with my O.C.D. and my general anxiety,,, but the fact that I have not had a normal working pattern bothers me.

If this has happen to anyone else, please tell me.....

Sincerely,

Out of work (and not liking it )

Hi I posted a positive post about Yasmin in the beginning of January. I have to say that it's been 6 weeks now and I am still really liking Yasmin. I have now lost 6lbs (also from working out) I am not bloated anymore and my skin is like translucently clear. Yasmin may not work for everyone but like all birth control pills there will always be some people that like it and some that don't. I think it is working great for myself. Moodiness is better too (Ortho-tri cyclen made me feel like a crying machine)
