I was so happy to find this website!.. I am a 49 year old female taking Linsinopril for approximately 10 months now for high blood pressure (which has come down to a normal rate since being on the medication). I have been experiencing a severe in my lower back towards my left side for about 2 months now and have been tested for many things (ultrasounds, MRI's, blood work, etc.) and nothing has been found to be causing this pain so far. The pain is constantly there, but more severe when I have a bowel movement and for about 1-2 hours afterwards. I also have the following symptoms: pain in joints on left side of my body - ankle, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand (including joint swelling mostly on left side). Bad pain and weakness in upper left arm when I try to rotate my arm backwards - can no longer pick up heavy objects with left hand. Also have pain in joints on right side, but not as severe. I have experienced headaches and my abdomen feels swollen all the time. It feels as though someone pumps air into my stomach every morning. It also feels as if something is throbbing or on fire across my abdominal area. This condition has disrupted my life - I have no energy and feel weak and tired all the time. I get out of breath easily just from walking or any amount of exertion. I no longer have the ambition to do the things I used to do. I've been thinking that there has to be something seriously wrong that the medical doctors are missing - and have feared some type of cancer. Now that I have found similar symptoms on this website, I am going to try to stop the Lisinopril and see if my symptoms subside.

Day 29 of Norvasc generic 10MG. I have swollen ankles and at the end of the day they a little painful. I cannot stay up past 10:30 P.M. I just feel so tired. Periodically my legs will turn red and are hot up to my knees-looks like a sun burn. I have been in a really bad mood lately. Everything annoys me...is this the meds or just me? I was on Linsinopril for about 3.5 months and coughed the entire time until I thought I was going to die. Doctor changed me to this. Swollen ankles much better then coughing all day and night. I'm just wondering if my bad mood is a side affect. Anyone have the same?

Lisinopril helps millions of people with their blood pressure. Just because a medication is not right for YOU does not mean it should be withdrawn. So far, every side effect I've read on here is clearly stated on the Warnings and Side Effects section included with the prescription.

I am not in any way minimizing or mocking the side effects all of you have stated. I had a few myself. It's very upsetting and scary, but again...the vast majority of users do not experience these side effects for long. Lisinopril has worked for me...my dizziness, cough, breathlessness and chest heaviness disappeared after a week or so.

I am not in the pharmaceutical industry (as I'm sure many of you suspect!) and I'm a Nervous Nelly when it comes to taking medication. I was especially worried about this one, but luckily I have had no problems. I hope all of you find the right HBP med that works for you.

After a month on Lisinopril, I started noticing shortness of breath. Then awoke one morning with pain in shoulder and numbness in arm - thought I was having a heart attack! ER diagnosis was asthma. Advair, methylprednisone (steroids) and albuterol helped at first, but after two weeks, breathing problems all came back. Started using a nebulizer which provided only short term relief and was then referred to a pulmonary specialist. He put my on Advair, Singulair (another side effect horror story), Nasonex, Intal inhaler, albuterol inhaler, the nebulizer as needed. Upon follow up two weeks later, it was all still going on! He rx'd another prednisone pack, but NOW he notices in chart that I was taking Lisinopril, which he said is KNOWN to cause breathing problems - and to stop taking it, immediately. Within one week, all of these horrendous asthma problems WERE GONE. It's been two weeks and I have since discontinued ALL asthma medications - everything - not to mention the Lisinopril. How could prescribing doctor and ER doctor mis-diagnose Linsinopril side effects for asthma! How could I? I would like to think that if they're going to prescribe this stuff, they would be familiar with possible side effects as such. I'm just lucky this stuff didn't kill me and that I didn't get rid of my cat!

I started taking Lisinopril for my bp about 2 1/2 months ago and even though it did lower my bp, I started having strange side-effects. It started out with drowsiness throughout the day, no matter how much sleep I got. And, waking up feeling drowsy even after 8-10 hours of sleep. Then, I started getting strange aches and pains throughout my body, like I was getting over a stomach flu. My asthma also flared up and I started having to use my inhaler for the first time in almost 15 years (usually I just need it after exercise.) The side-effects continued to get worse over the next months with increased fatigue, drowsiness, coughing, anxiety, muscle aches, poor concentration, feeling like my nerves were "shot," headache, weakness, tightness in my lungs, numbness in my hands and feet, and just plain feeling bad.
I made an appointment to see my doctor because I thought there was something seriously wrong with me. It crossed my mind that I might be feeling this way because of the Lisinopril. I stumbled across this website and after reading everyone's testimonials, I decided to stop the Lisinopril. I haven't taken it in 3 1/2 days, and I am already feeling much better. I would rather try a more holistic approach to lowering my bp then taking Lisinopril.
I hope this helps someone else out there who might be going through the same thing.

I have been taking Lisinopril for about the last maybe 8 to 10 years. It started with 20 miligrams and has now gone to 40 miligrams. Recently my pharmacy change the manufacturer of their Linsinopril. My face is extremely dry, as well as my hair has dried out so bad, that I am beginning to loose my hair. I honestly just received revelation of this on last night, as I could not figure out why I would stay so dry. I try to drink lots of water, but it seems that I am literally drying out. And to be honest my hair has had so many issues since being on this high dose of Lisinopril. Has anyone experienced dry skin or hair, resuluting in hair loss or extremely dry skin?

Feeling as though I was having a HEART ATTACK! I am an active triathlete who gets a cold once a year. After a bout with the flu the doctor decided that my blood pressure had been too high for too long (160/104 on that visit, which I have to agree was high, and in the same range for about a year prior). I started the medication on a Monday and on Wednesday morning I thought I was having a Heart Attack.

Severe Chest Pain (feeling as though a rubberband was wrapped around my chest)
Muscle soreness in my chest
Irregular heart beatc
Dry Mouth
Sweats
Numbness in arms

After 3 EKG's they found the heart to be fine. Found a mass on my liver through the Ultrasound and MRI (which turned out to be a Hemagioma and is normal, whatever that means, in 30 to 40 year old women)

The doctor failed to tell me that Lisinopril could cause "muscular/skeletal pain" Oh my...

They wanted to change my medication to Corvasc and when I read the side affects of that I decided to stay on this evil drug.

Now I just have:

Constant tightness in the chest
dry cough
Severe exhaustion
Depression

Is this worth it? I already eat right, exercise and am the proper weight, so I am looking for homeopathic solution to this issue and getting off this crud. Any suggestions please post?????

Wow I am so glad I found this site! I was put on linsinopril 10mg three weeks ago because my insurance wouldnt cover norvasc which I was fine on. But the past couple of weeks Ive been waking up in the middle of the night with this unbearable itch in my throat and coughing like I never had before. I also noticed that my skin was itching relentlessly. I just figured it was winter itch. I also notice that my stomach seem to always be bloated and my mentral cycles were no longer regular. At the same time I started this medicine I started a new vitamin so I was figuring that I was allergic to something in the vitamin, so I stoped taking the vitaman but the coughing and itching didnt stop, so by process of elimination the only other thing that change in my life was this lisinopril so I went on the web and found this site. After everything I read I am conveinced it is the lisinopril causes these reactions. Today is sunday and needless to say I am not taking the lisinopril anymore. After reading this I will call my doctor monday morning and find something else to take. If anyone found a good BP med that is covered by aetna, please let me know. Tamyj1972@yahoo.com

I'm so happy I stumbled upon this website! I was prescribed Linsinopril in 2004 and within a few months began to feel lousy. The drug never seemed to lower my blood pressure to "acceptable" levels and I developed a rash, which sent me to three dermatologists in six months until I finally decided to go to an accupuncturist. The accupuncture treatments seemed to work at first, but the rash returned. Then my leg started giving me problems. In fact, my hip/leg hurt so badly I was considering hip replacement! It felt like my leg was going to fall off. Rising from sitting positions made me feel like a cripple and the pain was excruciating! Xrays and ultrasounds showed nothing. I finally begin going to a chiropractor but I'm not getting better -- I'm just managing the pain a little differently. All along I kept thinking it must be something I'm ingesting that's giving me these problems. I have suffered the same symptoms as many of you, though the coughs weren't nearly as bad. Last year a new doctor (I "fired" the other one because her bedside manner sucked and I wasn't getting any better no matter how I tried) took me off Lisinopril and prescribed Enalapril maleate and even though the rash has gone away (somewhat) the pain in my hip and leg is still awful, and that hacking cough is still there -- in addition to the fatigue, dizziness and swelling. I think this medication isn't much better than the Lisinopril. Since I'm also taking furosemide, I'll stick with that until my next appointment and see whether I can feel like my old self again.

Hi,
I have been on Linsinopril since 7-24 and I hate it!!!! My blood pressure still spikes 170/108, but in this last week it has stayed pretty stable at about 125/89. I hate the side effects though and my doctor's are acting like I am crazy. I just called to report them and they said that the side effects I mentioned are not caused by this medicine. This is pure Crap!!! Everyone I have talked to has the same side effects--the tingleing all over the body, dizziness, severe nausea and I have actually thrown up 4 times this week alone, but Doc said it's not this med!!! I don't know what to do??? I am only 35 and I don't want to go untreated with the HBP, but I can't live like this!!!! any suggestions??? I would really like to try and lower it naturally!

Hello to all my fellow hypertension sufferers out there.
I am a 44 year old male who has taken Linsinopril for a little over 2 weeks. Lets just say, I had enough! I stopped taking them today.
I honestly can admit I feel like crap, waking up with no energy, feeling depressed for no reason, light headed constantly, dizzy all day, faint a lot of the time, a stupid lump in my throat that I can't get rid of. And thats on only 10 mg a day. If there is anyone out there who had the same symptoms and found a better prescription, PLEASE lets us know! Thanks everyone, and good luck to all.
