I had a mild heart attack 14 months ago (aged 56). A stent was inserted in an artery. I was put on four medications (Lipitor was at 40mg) so what caused what is up for grabs.
Friends told me I was slurring my words - which I experienced as an inability to find words and hence I could not talk at talking speed. The Metoprolol was reduced and I also started taking Co Q 10 as I had read that Lipitor reduces both cholesterol and Co Q10. The slurring reduced. I also had sudden pains as if a sharp object was being pressed hard on the ends of my fingers and toes at random. The doctor shrugged.
Since my heart attack my memory has been poor and I have been noticeably clumsy.
About 6 months ago I started to get left knee discomfort - I can relate this to water on the knee from an impact at age 11. It hardly ever caused a problem since. I went to Physical therapy and had ultra sound and it seemed to take ridiculously long to improve. And at that time I was becoming increasingly aware of a "bruise" to my left elbow (I am left handed). I felt like a complainer! I had bruised my left elbow but could it hurt 3 months later. I had an X-Ray and the elbow was fine. I was getting similar sensations on the other side of my body (knee and elbow) but at like 10% of the intensity so I dismissed it as nonsensical.
Then I awoke at 3.00 a.m. one night with incredible pain in my lower left arm.
The orthopedic surgeon I saw said I had tennis elbow and I got a cortisone injection. I was beginning to feel as if my body was decaying and getting torn internally.
I then read a blog and a disability insurance assessor said she always asks if people who have been diagnosed with tennis elbow are taking Lipitor. Ping!
I quit Lipitor. Two nights later I had unbelievable cramps in my lower left leg. I have had the pins in the end of the fingers and toes again and the inability to find words appears momentarily.
But I have far more energy. My biggest surprise is that I am breathing more deeply. Spontaneously I am taking really deep breaths. I started at the gym within a week of quitting. However I am being careful. I will take a cholesterol test in a month, and have gone almost dairy free, and am vegetarian every other day and will continue with CoQ10

I
I am currently taking a 40mg lipotor. I have devloped chronic hives mosttly on my arms and thighs. The itchng is so bad that I scratch these welts in my sleep. I have been on Plavix 75 mg since my first cardio-chatherization which has made my blood so thin that I actually bleed when I scratch. I'm now in a itch and scratch cycle that keeps me from sleeping. My doctor originally started me on 10 mg. This was before I started having clogged coronary arteries'. I am 74 years old. I have just had my second bypass operation. I started on lipitor 10 mg about eight years ago. I developed a hive like welt in my groin area. This welt or hive itched so bad that I damaged the skin. I went to a dermatoligist and the only answer he had after a biopsy was that it was probably Lichon Planus. I had a triple pass July 18 2007. That is when my doctor increased my lipitor dosage to 40 mg. He had increased it to 20 mg several years. I finally realized that it may be the 40 mg dose that causes me to wake about three hours later with Hives and itching that is so bad that even scratching doesen't relieve the itch.
I have seen two dermotoligsts. They can find nothing that I am allergic to. This condition has gotten progressivly worse over the last three years. I am taking Zanix and Benedryl I have eliminated all of my other medicines as the cause.
The only thing I could see as a possible cause is acute anxiety. After seeing my family doctor he prescribed the Zanix.
My last hope for relief is to get off Lipitor. I stopped taking it two days ago
and I already see a change in this chronic hive condition; I am assuming that it may take a while to see if I have solved my problem.
Incidently I started takng Zocor about three years ago instead of the Lipitor and I had such severe neck and shoulder pain that it was obvious Zocor was the cause.
zocor was the cause

Skipped heart beats, fast resting heart beat and moderately elevated BP generated a prescription for yours truly about two years ago. I take 12.5 mg dose of toprol every morning and it has generally fixed the problem. I still get occasional skipped beats and sometimes the heart is beating faster and harder than I think is called for but by and large I am much better off since I started taking toprol. I have gained weight. I do have occasional problems sleeping. My libido seems to arrive swell enough (no pun intended) when the occasion permits it. I also take 10mg Lipotor, 81mg aspirin and 500 mg metformin daily.

My husband has been taking statins for +15 years, dose of lipotor increased from 10-20 then 40mg to achieve satisfactory levels. Very slowly he became very depressed, developed muscle weakness, lathrgy and then became juandice. with excessive night sweats. He then stopped lipotor and commenced zorcor his symptoms of juandice and night sweats returned and so he has stopped that to. After 2 months he still has a night sweat if he has a glass of wine (he is not an excessive drinker!) but at least i feel like i have got my husband back. What naturel product will lower his cholestral levels? he has a good diet (i am a nurse) but a poor family history of this problem and heart attacks.

as i am reading everyone having pain in you hips and legs. about a year ago i was having pain in my hips and going down like the siatic nerve. the pain was so bad i had to set on a heating pad. it hurt so bad sometimes i would actually cry. at that time i really did not attribute it to fosamax. but i quit taking it about 6 to 7 months ago simple because i could not remember to take it. i thought it was the lipotor that i had recently started to take. maybe they have some of the same ingredients. but recently i went to get two teeth extracted and the dentist refused, because i have taken fosamas. it seems there is a side effect if you have teethe extracted you do not heal good. leaving the jaw bone exposed and eventual the bone dies out. requiring lots of money to rebuild the jow bone. has anyone had problems with there teeth getting brittle and breaking off?

I have been on Lipotor for several years. I am almost 60 years of age, It is easy at my age to put "changes" in your physical being down to "old" age. Could some or all of these changes be symptons of Lipitor damage?
Gradually I seem to be losing the ability to walk. My legs feel as if they are encased in cement. Getting up from bed or a chair, I stumble around until my muscles seem to get moving. Sometimes I seem to get vibrating spasms in my legs.
My whole body has become stiff. I walk from side to side with my arms bent like a wooden soldier. I have lost my elasticity of movement. My wife looking at me walking has wondered what is wrong with me.
Stepping up onto a step ladder one step at a time, I feel like my legs are too weak to handle my body weight. I thought it was due to my increased weight. I had not considered that it was a breakdown of muscle caused by Lipitor. I continue to go to the gym and do not think that my eating habits have changed but I seem to be putting on more weight.
I had a bit of arthritis in my knees before Lipitor but it did not stop me from running for miles. Now I find if I walk on the treadmill for a mile or two that I am stiff and sore all day. I live with joint pain, muscle ache and a weakness in my legs that makes getting up a real struggle. I put this down to having put on weight but maybe I am putting on weight because of Lipitor and that is causing the problem.
I now seem to have a perpetual nasal infection which I have been putting down to the smog. My skin is so dry, at times, it hurts but I was putting it down to the dryness of central heating in winter. I too have floaters in my eyes but have been told they are common at my age whether I was on Lipitor or not. Sometimes my vision is so blurry I have geat difficulty reading.
I am also taking Cozaar, Allopurinol and Gen-Doxazosin.
I am looking at this web site because I am worried. I will now see my doctor.

I was on Lipitor 20 mg also for about a year. During that time I experienced breathing problems and muscle aches. The Doctor told me to take Co Q10 which helped w/ the muscle aches. But I ended up cutting the pills in half, to help w/breathing a lot. When I told my my Doc that-she said go back up to full dose, I tried for 3 days and was so short of breath I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs.

The insurance co. won't pay for it, but the 129 will be made up in three months of not buying this horrid pill. I've since rec. two letters from Lipitor saying they noticed I'm not taking my pills as prescribed.....nice
