Good evening everyone. I'm just blown away from the comments on this message board. I've been taking Lisinopril since Thursday and I've been tired and feeling like nausea just today. I've noticed how tired I am too. I was walking this morning; about a 3 mile walk and it was hard for me to finish up. I'm a 39 year old African American male, very active as well. So, when this happened, I wanted to check out the side effects of this medicine to see if I'm the only one......I plan to consult with my Dr, to change as well; excuse I just vomited. I will be changing ASAP. Have a bless day./

My husband is a 64 year old relatively healthy man. His family doctor prescribed 20 mg. Lisinopril and 40 mg. Pravastatin to lower his blood pressure and cholesterol. He began taking both drugs on March 17, 2009 and since then has had nothing but problems. Dry hacking cough, lack of appetite, disorientation, dizziness, joint pain, leg cramps, stomach bloating and diarrhea, metallic taste in his mouth, sweating, numbness and tingling in his fingers, EXTREME fatigue (sleeping 18-20 hours a day), sore throat and swollen glands, frequent urination, itching rash on his forearms and head and just about every other bad symptom you can think of. Today I am going with him to his doctor to let her know that I took him off both drugs April 15th because I firmly believe they are toxic to his system. To date, there has been little improvement in his health, and I am wondering how long it will take for these medications to clear out of his system. In my opinion, Lisinopril is a VERY DANGEROUS DRUG and should be removed from the market. I am so angry that my energetic husband has been reduced to a state of the walking comatose. He cannot perform the simplest task without needing to rest or sleep. We can lower his cholesterol with diet and exercise, but now I'm wondering what we are going to do about his high blood pressure. It scares me to even think about adding another drug to his system without knowing what the consequences are going to be. Everything I have read in the blogs on his website indicate to me that someone is making a lot of money making people sicker. The question I'm going to ask my husband's doctor this morning is "would you give this drug to a member of your family" knowing the devastating side effects"? Then I'm going to tell her that I hope her malpractice insurance is paid up because if anything more happens to my husband, I'm going to own everything she has. And one more thing, after I hear what her response to my husband's symptoms is, I'm going to find another family doctor who takes a more conservative approach to the matter of high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Hi everyone, I was on Lisinopril for about 3 months. I ended up having a really bad panic attack, numbness, thought I was having a heart attack. I even had the cough, which was the worse. I am glad to say that I stopped taking the medicine and its been about a month now, I still have the heart racing, but its few and far between, but everything else is pretty much gone. No more coughing, no more tingling, I still get anxious (anxiety) every now and then, but hopefully that will disappear soon as well. There is hope after lisinopril.

am a 61 year old male and after a heart attack 7 years ago they put me on Lisinopril. I gained 20 pounds and look pregnant with 8 months of starting it. My stomach looks like I am pregnant.
My mother called the other night and said she had symptoms of a stroke.
I took her to the emergency room and the doctor looked over her medications and immediately diagnosed Lisinopril as the culprit and it was not a stroke. She stopped taking Lisinopril and immediately the symptoms disappeared and her stomach bloating disappeared.
I went to my doctor today and insisted he take me off this poison . Over the last 7 years I have gained over 40 pounds, all in my stomach.
I am hoping this does me good.

terrible ab swelling bloat and pain swelling in different part of body but every thing seems to be on left side.Feel compression of all inside organs in abdomen.making wheezing and breathing not right.Depression - my Prozac didn,t seem to work any more now that I look back on it. I started taking lisinopril about 8 yrs ago.Lately started with headache but that went away as soon as i stopped drug. Luckily over the holidays I ran out of pills and stopped taking and about on the second day (three days after one of my emergency visits where they never find nothing even though I feel like I am dying.) I felt like my old self again .I felt normal. I was so happy Yet so mad at doctors. For getting treated like I was crazy after awhile.I found out about intestinal angioedema fro my pharmacist when on a whim asked about lisinopril .My stomach area is all still sore but not all swelled up .Oh I also had urinary problems Which I still Have off and on But I take Flomax even though i am female. Im going to get bladder scope next week and I know it has to do with compression for so long from angioedema from the lisinopril.

I have been on this about two or three months. In the last two months I developed hoarseness, laryngitis, and loss of voice. I sound like Mickey Mouse or like I have been sucking helium.
Any one else have these symptoms?
I also have powerful leg and foot cramps at night but may have had this before.
HELP
I have stopped for about 2 weeks now and no improvement. Anyone have an idea how long this could last? I need my voice for work.

My husband is 50 and has been on Lisinopril for about 2 years after experiencing a stroke going down the freeway! He has had a few of these symptoms, but most of all we were wondering if anybody has stopped taking it cold turkey? And if so, what side effects did you have. We had a mix up at the pharmacy and he went without it for about 2 weeks and he has had insomnia, nausea, light headedness, he's shaky, palps, etc. All symptoms seem to be intensified. We were thinking tonight that maybe these symptoms were
occurring because he missed 2 weeks of doses with no tapering of the medicine.
What do you all think? Any input would be appreciated. We're at a loss. We haven't called the doctor yet. Like I said.....it just occurred to us.
Thank you,
N.

Hi, I have just started Lisinopril today, and wanted to search the internet on side effects. I was taking atenolol and felt I was on the right blood pressure med because it was working. Well I started getting tired after 4 years on atenolol, it started 1 month ago. I went to the Dr. and they did a ekg and told me they are surprised I am still walking/standing because my pulse was measured at 41 and that explained why I was so tired all the time. I am 49 years old and am going through menopause and deal with high blood pressure. Well the Dr. told me to stop the atenolol immediately. Then 2 days later I went to see th Dr. again and they switched my blood pressure over to linsinpril. I also take HCTZ a water pill and have been taking it for years. I hate to say it but I am developing the sore throat thing after 5 hours on the med and I am worried about that. I took my BP reading and it is better than ever 108/59 pulse 68. I guess I will get some honey lozengers for the sore throat. Not saying it is the lisinopril causing it but my body is very delicate and I watch my meds carefully so I know when something goes on in my body (meds) and I feel it right away that I have to wonder if it is going to be an ongoing problem for me. I will keep you updated on this as I really am hoping that the lisinopril helps and I can get my energy back. Have been taking the B12 and magnesium and vitamin D and Calcium. I also take vitamin B2 and B6 every other day. I had yeast infections constantly and the B2 has really helped me with that. I get night sweats and hot flashes and take soy pills for that and the herb sage every other day. I was taking low dose prempro about 6 months ago for 2 years and that made my hair fall out terribly, but also made it grow a lot too, it was a ongoing problem with the hair laying everywhere in sink on the floor etc. I stopped the Low dose prempro and the hair loss stopped, so if I lose hair from lisinopril I will be used to that, but hope it also will grow. I need to give this lisinopril a chance as I have little choice right now. My heart they said was pumping too slow, the pulse should be 60 or above not low like 41 so I will keep updated on how the lisinopril side effects are with my body.

I was on lisinipril for 10 months. I have never felt so terrible in my whole life!!!! I am 34 years old and this was my first BP med. I had dizziness, bloating, 20 lb. weight gain, tiredness, pain in my arms, back and neck. I could barely eat yet I gained weight???? I had nausea and even vomited at times. I had anxiety, depression and my hands would shake. The symptoms would come and go so I figured this is how I have to live my life. So I tried to deal with it. I had to quit 2 jobs because of the dizziness and finally thank god found this website. After reading everyone else symptoms and knew I wasn't alone--- I decided to go to the Doctor's and get on a new med. I am now on norvac and I do not have a single side effect! All the symptoms of that poison are gone and I have never felt better!!!!!!! Get off lisinipril- It is not in your head-THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE REAL!

Strange happening. I have pancreatitis with having a Whipple procedure done 4 years ago tying off a large tumor on my pancreas. Because of this I am now a type 2 diabetic with high blood pressure. both stemming from the surgery. Recently, within the past year, I was put on lisinpril. Because of financial reason's I stopped taking the Lisinipril but just recently seeing a new doctor I started taking the lisinipril again and after two days have experienced severe pancreatic pain. Finding out by way of my son in law going into emergency and finding that he too has the same conditions and is taking lisinpril. Doctor's told him Lisinipril should not be taken by anyone with severe pancreatitis.

I've been on Lisinopril for a couple to three years. I often get tingling and numbness in my arms when I sleep. Also, my sense of smell diminished
greatly. I've now gone off the 5 ml. and am noticing my SENSE OF SMELL is much better!! Has anyone had this problem?? My hands swelled badly too, and that has improved too. Cough all gone. I'm monitoring with a bp monitor, and my pressure is normal. Exercise and good diet seem to be working.
Am so glad to have my sense of smell back after years!!!!

I have been on 5mg of Lisinopril for about four years now. I have the cough everyone talks about. It can start as a dry cough and come from nowhere but often I know it is coming as I can hear the rattle in my chest. If I have just eaten and it comes on I often end up being sick. I have this awful clear (totally colorless and odorless) mucus that comes up. It is horrible, it is so hard to cough to clear it without being sick and I make horrid noises. If anyone is around me they all look at me with horrified expressions on their faces. My Bp is now under control since I now also take a water tablet too, but I still get horrid fluid retention around my ankles and on top of my feet and have to go to doctors now as the pain on top of my left foot is stopping me from walking - the only exercise I do, and what keeps me alive I guess) and the cough is not occasionally anymore, I get it daily. I don't cough all of the time, and it mostly gets me in the morning when I awake, but I know it is a side effect and getting worse. I guess I am putting off going to doc because I hate the thought of having o come of the drug and try something else as my BP is reading a lovely 123/79 most of the time, which is great!

For three months I have had a hacking cough. I was on pro-air, symbicort, nasanex, singulair, and allegra plus atenolol, lipitor. I went to my family dr. four times during this period and ended up with a pulmonologist last week and an allergist this week. My main doctor, a nice young doc, suggested it might be the linsinipril was causing the cough. His P.A. even had me off it a week. Bottom line is this: it takes longer than a week to find out if the cough is from Lisinopril and the cough does not come as a result of Lisinopril until you have a n infection or cold. I had been on the Lisinopril for two months when I got a cold at Christmas. I have been hacking ever since. Blood work and skin tests today revealed no allergies. I am to go off all allergy meds and the lisinopril. I am hopeful the hacking will subside.

I was put on 40mg per day of Prednisone for a sinus infection. I felt good for 4 days, then very weak and tired with headache and nausea. The doctor did not prescribe tapering off, just stop after 10 days. I quit after 9 days. Horrible withdrawal, very weak, bad headache, terrible nausea. My blood pressure dropped from 120/80 to 96/40. I had been on 25mg Lisinipril and Hydrochlorothyazide - doctor stopped that. Blood pressure now 104/60. Still very tired. Headaches almost gone, nausea gone. Complete blood panel tests all normal. Dr says symptoms will go away. It has been 3 weeks since I stopped the drug. Some fluid retention, but that is going away. Has anyone experienced LOW blood pressure with Prednisone?

I have taken Lisinopril since 2001 because of high blood pr. caused by Mitral valve prolapse. From the beginning it made me a little sleepy when I drive to work in the morning. I take 20mm when I have breakfast when I get up.
I now notice my hands hurt until I have worked for a while. I work 7 days a week as a mechanic due to low income. Whenever I get a small cut or scratch now I bleed like crazy.
I do ballroom dancing once a week and my arms & chest hurt when I go too hard or run. I have always been short of breath since 10 years old. I'm 70 now.
I would not be afraid to try it as it has helped me. Just pay attention to the affects it may have on you. When I stop taking it I get better but my BP goes up. It really doesn't bother me much. A friend takes it with no side affects.

I was recently taken off of 10mg of Lisinopril and put on 20mg/25mg of Benazepril/HCTZ. Is this medication the same as Lisinopril? I am also noticing that my heart does weird flips. Is this a side affect and is it something to be concerned about? I was also taking Seroquel and stopped a month ago. This is when I noticed that my bp has increased to 144/92 from being 120/75. I am having trouble sleeping and have more anxiety now and I also feel flushed and my legs itch when I get up like I am holding too much fluid. I also take Metoprolol 25mg twice a day. Are these a good combination? I have had three Grand-mal seizures since 2002 and I am now 40years old. I work out with cardioid for 45mins and do weights for 45min three times a week. I have also gained 20lbs in the past six months and I have had tests done on thyroid which I believe are inconclusive. I don't know what I should do?

Symptoms I have:
NOTES on health since day after I started the Lisinipril.
9-03-07 – started taking Lisinopril
9-05-07 – Saw Dr. for Bladder infection (left urinalysis with doctor). Prescribed a sulfite antibiotic for bladder infection.
9-06-07 – First symptoms began; trouble urinating
9-06-07 – Called Dr. Kuebals office to let them know that I was having trouble urinating. I also asked if they got the lab test (urinalysis) back yet. The nurse let me know that I had strep in my urine (very rare she said) but they will be prescribing me macrobid and to stop the first antibiotic.
9-06-07 – Began taking macrobid
9-11-07 – Unable to urinate at all
More symptoms after a few more days of taking this drug: Heart pounding in my chest, Achy skin, panic/anxiety attacks (hard to catch breath, heavy chest), Cold feet, hot sweats and chills, urinary retention, bladder infections, ultra sensativety (body to the touch), muscle cramps, arms, legs, back and neck feel heavy. I can't even lift my arms to fold clothes they get so heavy.
9-12-07 – went to the ER to get catheterized
9-14-07 – At hospitals request (doctor at hospital) saw a urologist although he thought that this was most likely a cause of the bladder infection and that I might have some swelling around the urethra or he also suggested that it might be caused by a tear or “stretch” in the urethra from not being able to urinate due to the pain of urinating. I didn’t not think that one, because as soon as I was not able to urinate, I knew that I would need a catheter until we figured out what was wrong.
9-14-07 – Removed catheter at urologist office
9-15-07 – Early am – went to ER again to get catheterized as I was still unable to urinate
9-19-07 – Went to CT Scan requested by Urologist
9-20-07 – Nurse removed 2nd Catheter at Urology Office and said to come back by four if I still could not urinate on my own.
9-20-07 – Researched Lisinopril to find UT could be caused by Lisinopril (medications.com) and saw the side effects that some people were having with this drug. Also learned that this was a derivative of venom from a Brazilian snake (thus the symptoms of feeling achy, sick, tired, muscle weakness and urinary retention
9-20-07 – Went back to urologist to let them know that I still could not urinate and they showed me how to self catheretize. Also, as of the evening of 9-19-07 stopped Lisinopril.
Between the ER doctors, my PCP and my Urologist, they have heard me complain about all of these symptoms but they refused to connect them to the Lisinopril.

Glad to find your site. I have been on Lisiopril for 2 years (ever since my Insurance stopped paying for my Aceon and I had to have a substitute drug for blood pressure control). I have had increasing cough and horseness for the past 12 months to the point that I now have 24 hour symptoms! I also have been having leg cramps at night the past few months.
I will stop Lisinopril TODAY. Plan to monitor my blood pressure and see what happens. Does anyone see any problem with doing this?????

Glad I found you all. I have a couple questions. I am on 5mg Lisinopril and am already weaning myself off. What other meds do you recommend for blood pressure? Can we just stop taking it? I've only been on it for a couple weeks. I check my b/p daily and it is usually good. So I don't believe I have "high" b/p. I think it went up during pain and stress and my doc decided to keep it in check. I've been getting a lot of headaches and dizziness. I also have MS and Graves disease. So I'm confused and complicated.
Thanks
