I am 37. My BP was around 160/95. My Dr put me on Lisinopril 10mg daily. My BP became normal almost immediately. I have been on it for over a year now and here is what I have noticed. I am CONSTANTLY tired and dizzy. Any thought of walking anywhere of any distance is horrifying because of the fear of collapse. I sleep over 10 hrs a night only to wake up exhausted. I am so sick of being tired. I just want to sleep my life away. This is no way to live. I am depressed all of the time. I can't even shop anywhere because of the anxiety which comes with it. i.e. numbness in arms, rapid pulse, faintness, hyper ventalation and just pure panic for no reason whatsoever. I can't control it. When I sleep, my fingers and hands fall completely asleep. They are dead. It wakes me up numerous times every night. I can't get good rest. I stopped taking Lisinopril a week ago. My BP is below normal now. My pulse is around 55 at all times. I have never had joint pain, just extreme fatigue. God willing, I won't have to take this med again, or any med. I forgot how I used to feel. I wasn't always like this.

My husband is on Lisinopril-10mg. The Dr. called today and still isn't happy with his BP, so they are adding a diuretic. He is also on Atenolol-50mg.
He has to pee constantly. I am concerned that he will become dehydrated taking water pill. Dr. wasn't concerned when I told him that even hearing water makes him pee.

Any one else have this issue?

I’m 46 and have been newly diagnosed with high BP (132/92). I’m taking LISINOPRIL, 10mg. My only symptom at this time is, ear congestion/head fullness. I have also felt a little nauseated at times. This is day 2; my expectations are positive. I’m hoping the side affects won’t become more serious; such as the testimonials I’ve read so far. Good luck to the rest of you…

Glad to find this site. My BP has always been high, but due to stress it has been 170/110 on Inderal 40mg, 3 times a day. My doctor put me on Lisinopril 10mg, my BP was same. He increased it to 20mg, and am having numbness and tingling in arms with nausea and dizziness. My BP is still the same...He increased it to 40mg., I am flushing it down the toilet after reading the comments. My mom was on it for years and finally realized the constant cough and uncontrolled hypertension, which lead to a pacemaker, was due to the Lisinopril.

I am a 50yr old female... was prescribed Lisinopril 10mg for bp.. after a few weeks I started getting a funny hard to explain feeling with my heart beating a certain way.. don't know how to explain it.. fluttering maybe.. feel it pounding. So after I realized it could be this pill I stopped it.. I moved out of state from my dr... and not ins. yet.. however I watch my bp and when it got alittle higher I thought I will take 1/2 one.. which takes BP down to normal, but after doing this here and there.. that same feeling in my heart started..
Has anyone experienced this feeling?? I don't seem to have the other side effects Thank God.. but this one scares me as I don't see anyone mentioning this feeilng..

My husband is 36 years old and started taking Lisinopril 10mg about 2 weeks ago. Since then he has noticed some cramping in his lower legs, but the main side effect he noticed was a severe drop in sex drive. He has never experienced this before and the Lisinopril is the only thing that has changed in his daily activities. Thanks to those who shared their experiences with this drug. I'm sure he's going to call our MD first thing in the AM.

I've been on LISINOPRIL (10mg) for a few months. I must add that this is in combination with ATENOLOL (25mg). I consider myself lucky to still be above ground after reading the comments just on the LISINIPRIL !! The dreaded strangling cough which struck at anytimehad me thrown out of my bridge club. The dreams and the sweat-soaked pyjamas and bad sleep patterns left me feeling as though I'd just escaped from Freddy Kruger. The cramps in the lower legs were heart stopping....and to top it all, yesterday I found I couldn't get my shoes on because my feet were swollen (though this could be the ATENOLOL...Or worse, the cocktail of the two. And I almost forgot, the pins and needles up both arms and the tingling figertips and the mild stroke when I was on the phone and started speaking gibberish to a friend. I was never like this before, all I had was slightly high blood pressure, not very serious diabetes, and slight anxiety attacks. Now I'm a short tempered, confused, coughing, tired, unable to concentrate wreck, unable to function in bed and left wondering how much longer I have left to live! I'm taking none today and seeing my doctor tomorrow...I will keep you posted should I still be alive.

I took Lisinopril(10mg.) for the first time last week. Within 2 hours my neck started to hurt and stiffen. By the evening it was so stiff I couldn't turn my head and the pain was intense. I decided to not take another pill. The stiffness and pain took 5 days to lessen completely. My MD agreed it was not for me and I now taking a prescribed diuretic. Everyone should read the "Seattle Times" article on the standards for high blood pressure..

I took Lisinopril 10 mg for about 10 days. My doc had told me that 5% of those tested developed an itchy cough, and to stop if this happened to me. I stopped as soon as the cough developed. That was more than a week ago. I haven't been able to get a night's sleep since then. The cough is dry and hacking and continuous. Coughing can also come at any time during the day. Sometimes a coughing attack hits when I already have a cough drop in my mouth.

I feel just the same as I've felt when experiencing a sinus infection, with nighttime drainage and sinus headache.
When I called the doctor's office, I was advised to take an over-the-counter cough med. It hasn't helped. I am exhausted.

This seems to be a case of the "cure" being worse than the initial problem.

I AM SO GLAD TO HAVE DISCOVERED THIS WEBSITE! I HAVE BEEN ON LISINOPRIL 10mg NOW FOR NEARLY 2 YEARS AND FOR MOST OF THAT TIME I HAVE HAD THE MOST HORRIBLE, CROUPY COUGH.
IT STARTS AS A TICKLE IN THE THROAT, THEN I AM AWARE OF PHLEGM IN THE THROAT AND THE COUGHING THAT FOLLOWS COULD BE DESCRIBED AS 'VIOLENT'AND NOT A LITTLE SCARY! THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY; I CAN BE SUDDENLY WOKEN UP BY COUGHING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, PRODUCING A LARGE AMOUNT OF PHLEGM AND EXPERIENCING A DREADFUL WRACKING, CHOKING SENSATION AND SOMETIMES THIS WILL TAKE MINUTES TO CLEAR.
I SELDOM AM ABLE TO SPEAK ON THE PHONE WITHOUT THE CONVERSATION BEING LIBERALLY PEPPERED WITH APOLOGETIC, RASPY COUGHS.
THE SEVERITY AND FREQUENCY OF THE COUGH IS ALWAYS WORSE TOWARDS THE END OF THE DAY, AND OFTEN LEADS TO A TIGHT, SORE FEELING IN THE CHEST.
I HAVE TWICE BEEN TO SEE THE DR WITH THESE SYMPTOMS, AND HAVE BEEN SENT FOR CHEST X-RAYS AND GIVEN ANTIBIOTICS. THE FINDINGS ARE ALWAYS NEGATIVE AND THE SYMPTOMS HAVE NEVER BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO LISINOPRIL. HAVING READ OF THE SYMPTOMS OTHER LISINOPRIL USERS ARE EXPERIENCING, I AM CONVINCED THAT IN MY CASE AT LEAST, LISINOPRIL IS THE CAUSE OF THIS DREADFUL COUGH, AND TO A LESSER EXTENT, ACHY LIMBS.
I PLAN TO SEE THE DR YET WITHIN THE NEXT FEW DAYS AND WILL MENTION THIS WEBSITE AND THE SIMILARITIES OTHER PATIENTS ON LISINOPRIL HAVE EXPERIENCED.
SO GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE! I WILL BE REQUESTING A CHANGE OF MEDICATION PDQ!

I am on Lisinopril 10mg I break the tab in half take it morn and night, also I am on Hydrochlorot 12.5mg once a day.
I have been having a cough, dizzyness, tiredness, knee pain and I have no control of wetting myself when I cough. for some time now. I have been on this stuff for a year. I went to the Doctor the 14th of Nov. only to find that my Triglycerides are out of the roof my Cholesterol is up and I have high blood sugar. My blood preasure is good though.
I watch what I eat very closley. I am a bit over weight 60#'s.
I have been on the web for 3 hours now checking out these problems well Hydrochlorot causes the Triglycerides, Cholesttrol and the blood sugar to go up. Then I find this web site stating all the problems that Lisinopril causes I am having some of the same problems as the rest of you.
I am not going to take any more of this poison. I am going to go the natural way. I found on www.rxomega3.com some information about Lowering Triglycerides the stuff is called OMACOR (omega-3-acid ethyl esters) it is FDA approved which means nothing to me. Your Doctor can prescribe it for you.
Thank you for all the information you all have shared about this drug. My husband and I do alot of the natural ways in the first place but I feel I was scared into taking these drugs.
I am just going to put my trust in the Lord from now on he is the doctor and the healer. He healed my Husband of Mastatic Prostate Cancer this year.
If you want to email me with any comments please feel free to do so my email is ******

I started Lisinopril (10mg) about 2 months ago. The first 2 days, my BP dropped to 90/60. Doc said to cut them in half. I was feeling very dizzy when standing up and BP was still around 100/70. Doc said to cut the halves in half. I thought I felt okay, but was having less and less energy and was sleeping about 14 hours per day. My right shoulder and neck stiffened up so much, I had to take Vicodin to control the pain. I thought I was developing MS or something. THEN, I got the cought....this is all on 2.5mg per day. BP started to rise (probably due to the violent cough). I even upchucked from violent coughs a couple of times. Needless to say, when I found this site...I was releived. I took my last little "Lisinopril chip" last night.
WARNING: Your doctor may not know or care about these side effects....mine acted shocked and said that there are sites like this for every drug. I would love to hear from anyone that can validate the fact that there are sites like this for every drug. Best Wishes!

I was prescribed Lisinopril 10mg just a few days ago by an ER doctor to treat hypertension after I started having chest pains and had a BP of 171/110 (even though I'm only 25) and I'm already noticing stomach cramps. It feels kinda like I'm really hungry, but there isn't the growling sensation, just stabbing pains. I see a few people listed that they feel bloated, but no one has mentioned stomach cramps. Has anyone else had this side effect with Lisinopril?

Since I started taking Lisinopril 10mg, I have a dry cough and my blood sugar reading have increased considerably. Does this blood pressure medicine affect diabetes? I have has two severe dizzy spells , one prior to starting on Lisinopril that concerns me and was given Meclizine for the dizzy times. After having the dizziness I spent two-three days being lathargic and unable to do anything with weird feelings in my head.

Thanks, D. Stealey.

I have been taking Lisinopril, 10mg, for almost two months and even though my latest blood work does not appear to show any kidney or liver problems, I have developed a lower back pain that only hurts when I move from a sitting position to a standing position. Once I am standing the pain goes away. Is there anyone out there who has similar condition?

The only other medications I take is allopurinal for the gout and aspirin, 325mg, every morning. I am 69 years old and feel very good otherwise.

I begun taking Lisinopril about 2 months ago. Was lightheaded at first for about 2 or 3 weeks but that side effect seemed to disappear. My blood pressure has never been better (from 170/105 to 98/65) but just as soon as my lightheadedness went away, I started developing a dry cough. I didn't think much of it at first as I have summer allergies and my husband had just gotten over a cold with a bad cough that lasted almost 4 weeks. I just figured I had caught his cold. But after 4 weeks passed and my cough just kept getting worse instead of better. Just like everyone else on this site, I have a horrible persistent cough that brings me to the point of tears and dry heaves many times during the day and night. I haven't had a good night sleep in I don't know how long and my poor husband suffers right along with me too.

I finally went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and was prescribed an antibotic for what she described as sinusitis. Well, after finishing my 2 weeks supply of antiboitic and Mucinex, my cough is worse than ever. Since my husband and ex-husband are both smokers, I started fearing the thought of lung cancer until I found this site. I was so relieved to find out that what I'm experiencing is like a carbon-copy of so many other unfortunate people on this drug. I called my doctor today and told her the antibiotics did nothing and that I was sure it was the Lisinopril. She advised me to stop taking it immediately and monitor my cough for 2 weeks and then go in to see her. I was relieved but also scared after reading other people who have been off this drug for up to a year and still have a horrible cough. I don't know what I'll do if this doesn't go away! It's having a terrible affect on my sleep and my job as I'm constantly having to put customers on hold while I hack my brains out.

I'll post any updates on my hopeful improvement after going off this horrible stuff!! Good luck and thanks very much to everyone out there who has shared their experiences! It really helps to know that it's not just you who is going through this misery!

I took my first dose of lisinopril 10mg on Friday morning. By 2:00 pm, the abdominal cramping was so bad, I ended up on the couch unable to move. Have been unable to eat anything, including cream of wheat, without feeling every part of my intestines cramping for the first hour or so after eating. The longer I go without eating or drinking, the more reduced the pain seems. But every time I stand up, I feel as though my contents of my abdomen are going to spill onto the floor. Riding in the car over bumpy roads is no picnic either. I didn't take my pill this morning hoping that this would all go away. It hasn't. I am due to see a nurse practitioner tomorrow am (after two calls to the office to complain about this). The saddest part of this is that at my physical last Thursday, my PCP declared me in great health...and just wanted to change my BP med from a beta-blocker to the lisonopril because I had complained of the former's sedative effects. I guess I should be careful about what I say when it comes to the meds.

I started taking lisinopril 10mg after a full physical revealed nothing othere than slightly elevated BP. At my 3 weeks follow-up it was increased to 20mg. I had developed a dry cough and the general feeling of tiredness all day. At 6 wks HCTZ was added due to no significant drop in my BP. Exactly one week after starting the HCTZ I was back in the Dr's office with horrible flu symtoms and sent immediately to the emergency room. I was admitted in acute liver failure, jaundiced, and near coma elevated ammonia levels. I was fortunate to have a GI specialist called in that had seen this exact scenerio in a former patient and started testing and treatment right away.
He stated that this is a documented occurence to Lisinopril with the combination of HCTZ in at least 25 patients.
I was hospitalized for 13 days and have been out of work for 7 weeks. I have gallbladder surgery scheduled for next week and have a treatment plan established for the next year to cover the damage to my liver, kidneys, and bladder.
My recover is progressing and my liver is recovering rapidly. I am not able to take any medicaitons at this time due to the liver and will start treating the other organs as soon as the liver functions are within normal range.
I would make sure that anyone thinking of taking Lisinopril know the possible effects and follow up very closely with the Dr. about any symptoms.

I had a migraine for 8 days, nothing would help. Saw my chiropractor, then saw my primary doc. She realized my bp had been climbing steadily over the past 2 years. I am 31, female, slightly over wieght with bp 135-150/90-100. I tried to use CO Q 10 supplements 300 mg once daily. I have to say I felt GREAT but my bp stayed the same and the headache was beter, mild but persistant. I gave in and started taking lisinopril 10mg. Head ache has been better, mild and hit and miss. Ok, that is the only thing I can say for it. I have such a God aweful back ache I just want to cry. My cough is keeping me up at night and is sometimes gagging, my asthma is way,way worse, and the thought of spicy food forget it. Had pizza at my brothers house. I took zantac then tried to eat 20 minutes or so later. I nearly threw up, and not because of usual upset feeling. Reflux was just horrible. It has only been three weeks but my bp is up to 160/100, maybe because I feel so bad and sleep deprived. I will call my doc tomorrow. Thanks to this page I know I am not just falling apart. By the way my mom started this same med 3 months ago. She is fine with it, except for the cough maybe. She is an asthmatic, smoker, with allergies. It is had to say when her cough gets worse, but she has complained that her asthma has really bothered her early this year. HHMMM.....
