Toprol XL I just started a week ago as the medicals cant get my blood pressure under control. I also take Lisinopril at 40mgs. Was told at 40mgs. of Lisinopril thats the highest dose there is (which I found is a lie from a lady I know when she told me her husband takes lisinopril XL or along those lines). Meantime..on Toprol..I cant figure how to describe it other than..when the medicals decided not to deal with my medical issues and gave me 1st Zoloft then Prozac. I had such bad reactions from them I told the medicals to deal with my medical problems dont blow me off with shrink pills! Meaning...I have the same reaction with Toprol as I did with Zoloft and Prozac...emotional, cant focus or concentrate..cant sit still..I look like crap because I cant sleep more than 5 hours or so...
Im already plump from middle aged (and I use to be bone thin at one time)..Im hungry..and yet I look and smell food and I about gag...Bits and pieces at times I can get down me though..Toast, yogurt, that kind of thing. IM tired and weak too...It takes everything I have in me just to peddle my bike 3 miles around the housing area I live. After that, I flop..
I have to pee every 2 mins too...Bad enough the pressure from fibroids on the bladder..Medicals say..Dah..they will shrink when you are finally post menopausal. ( I would love to tell that line of BS to the doctors with breast cancer or prostate cancer..see how they like it).
I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt here..give it time and see if these side effects wear off in time...But as it stands...
Between this crap and the migraine medications..IM sick and tired of not being heard/taken seriously by the medical community...Getting so Im all for alternative medicine and just let the medical doctors/FNP-C and specialists kiss my backside..

I just started taking Lisinopril 2 weeks ago for my high blood pressure, I'm coughing all the time with mucus, my left rib cage feels like somebody is continuously stabbing me in the same spot and then afterwards I would get a weird tingling sensation, I've lost my voice, I'm hungry all the time, I urinate way more than usual, I get irritated easily and start yelling at people when they haven't done anything, I'm exhausted from doing nothing. This medicine is terrible, I'm going to my doctor tomorrow and tell her that I'm going to stop taking it, I don't care, it's just not worth all the side effects.

My mother was given this drug, Lisinopril, because the doctor decided she had high blood pressure after she went in for a bladder infection (she's had these all her life, every now & then). The doctor also prescribed Nitrofur (please avoid THAT one like the plague - she was on the couch for a week in stomach agony). We didn't put 2 and 2 together on what was really going on until yesterday. She was on Lisinpril for 3 months and every 2-3 weeks had an episode of extreme stomach spasms, bloating and fatigue. These episodes have lasted 3-5 days each, keeping her on the couch in agony. I researched the internet and found out that Lisinopril is made from SNAKE VENOM, can you believe? Turns out lots of people have reactions from this, including coughing. There was one woman who had the exact same things as my mom and wouldn't you know it, stopped using Lisinopril and the episodes went away. Turns out this is an allergic reaction, something they say is rare, BUT I think it depends how long you take it and how sensitive you are. So my mom immediately stopped taking it. What's happening inside is something they call gastrointestinal angioedema (in layman's terms, internal hives). If you experience coughing, the hives are in your throat. If you experience the stomach pains, the hives are all in your intestinal tract and very possible more areas internally. So then I looked up and found an excerpt from "One Earth Herbal Sourcebook" on Google and found the author had experienced something similar, using ayervedic (indian) herbs to fix the problem. I couldn't find where to buy ayervedic herbs, calling Whole Foods Market with no success. Well, all over the world there are healing herbs that do similar things. So I did find 2 that would work. Marshmallow (the herb, not the campfire kind) will help relieve swelling internally. There is another herb called Goldenseal (don't use it if you have very high blood pressure as it can cause a spike) that has antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Anyway, now you know what is going on inside - hives you can't see from snake venom. Take that to the doctors and see what they say. Maybe your just better off like we are to research yourself and find a natural answer from nature. I hope this can help others avoid the hell we've been through.

I have been on 20 mgs Lisinpril for about a year. The most notable side effect I had was ACUTE PANCREATITIS, for which I spent several days in ICU in extreme pain. I only hope nothing permanent was done to my pancreas. Now I only take Atenolnol for my hypertension which seems to do the trick by itself.

Strange happening. I have pancreatitis with having a Whipple procedure done 4 years ago tying off a large tumor on my pancreas. Because of this I am now a type 2 diabetic with high blood pressure. both stemming from the surgery. Recently, within the past year, I was put on lisinpril. Because of financial reason's I stopped taking the Lisinipril but just recently seeing a new doctor I started taking the lisinipril again and after two days have experienced severe pancreatic pain. Finding out by way of my son in law going into emergency and finding that he too has the same conditions and is taking lisinpril. Doctor's told him Lisinipril should not be taken by anyone with severe pancreatitis.

I am a 60 year old female and have been on Lisinopril (40 mg.) for at least10 years. Before that I was prescribed Zestril, but a generic was often substituted (Lisinopril). So it's hard to say just how long I've taken the Lisinopril. I'm amazed to read the side effects listed here. I've experienced almost all of them at one time or another. It's scary. I've tried to quit the Lisinpril a couple of times, sometimes just because I ran out of the prescription. But now I am substituting a natural supplement for the Lisinopril. I'm trying Holistrol (HiQi). I've been on it for about a week. I checked my bp when I started the natural and will check it again after a week. It was high when I first checked, but I had been off the Lisinopril for a few days by then. I'll continue to monitor and take the natural supplement and then will report back.

These side effects are very similar to those experienced by people diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrom ( both of which I've been told I "might have"). My diagnoses came from several doctors in my hometown and even from the Mayo Clinic. I'm wondering how many people with these diagnoses are taking Lisinopril?

My side effects are starting to leave my body, but after so many years, there are many layers of toxins to release. But I am confident that I am doing just that ~ releasing toxins!

Thank you for listening and especially for sharing your side effects. This is bad stuff in my opinion and I'm glad to have started the process of clearing this poison out of my body.

I decided a long time ago, Doctor's are not the best listeners!! I am a nurse, I know!! Read my post today June 18th. I have been praying for an answer to all my symptoms, especially the profuse sweating I have been having for the past year!!! I believe I have found my answer at this site. Thank God I found it. All because I was looking up info about Toprol because after the doctor increased my dosage yesterday , today my ankles and feet swelled up like balloons!!!!! Now I have pitting edema!!!
I have gone to a # of doctor's in the past year and a half and I think they believe it is all " in my head"!!! I have been so depressed. My husband has even threatened to leave me. NO interest in much of anything. I don't know what it is like to sleep anymore :-( My husband says " just close your eyes and sleep like a normal person". Maybe after he reads the posts at this site he will begin to understand that everything I have been going through is "REAL". I am calling my Dr. in the morning and she will WEAN me off this awful drug!!! My BP has been going up since I have been on Toprol instead of going down. I have wondered why the Dr. didn't just change the med. It really makes one wonder. DO the Dr's ever hear what we are saying???? I would be happy to share stories with anyone on this site. How many of you have experienced profuse sweating???? The doctor will WEAN me off this drug!!! :-)
God bless everyone!! I pray you all get off this drug!! It needs to be pulled by the FDA!!!

Right after I started taking Lisinopri in May 2007, I had a major flare-up of my Psoriasis. I have had Psoriasis for over 35 years and it was only in certain areas, now it has completely spread over my entire body. I also have constant ringing in my ears, never thinking it could be related to the Lisinopril. Sometimes it works to lower my blood pressure and other times it seems not to help. Occasionally I experience dizziness. These are all symtoms I never had before, I am not overweight and do not smoke. I had been healthy except for borderline hypertension prior to taking Lisinopril. I am not taking any other medications. My dermatologist is pressuring me to start Raptiva and I have agreed, not realizing that maybe just stopping the Lisinopril might ease the symptoms of my psoriasis. I just started researching Lisinopril in the last few days when someone I work with casually mentioned that there may be a link between Lisinopril and Psoriasis flare-ups.

I have been taking 20 mg. of Lisinopril for over two month. I notice that I have been experiencing shortness of breath and dizziness, and bronchitis. and a cough. I went to see a doctor and She said that was causing these symptoms was the Lisinopril. I have been taking celery seed extract and by the grace of God. I have seen my blood pressure go down. I believe we need to seek God to give us directions and wisdom when it comes to our health and many other issues.

This was my husband's experience, not mine. He started Lisinopril in October of 2007. After one month he started having anxiety/panic attacks, started having trouble concentrating on reading (which he loved), his memory was shot, he didn't sleep well, he lost his sense of humor. After two months, in one week's time, he spiraled into such a deep depression that he ended up taking his own life. I'm convinced it was because of the combination of Lisinopril, diuretic and Statin he was taking. He was a different person after adding Lisinopril and Simvastatin to his diuretic medication.

I'm a 53 year-old male and do regular Cardio Exercise every week and have for 31 years.
A cardiologist put me on Toprol XL 25 MG on November 22nd. The Doctor prescribed it because I add heart irregularities and palpitations which resulted in me going to the hospital as I didn't know what was happening and never had heart palpitations before in my life. I went to the emergency room and they got me stabilized but brought in cardiologist. My heart returned to normal function in a few hours and was result of taking a decongestant as well as Lisinopril 5 MG. I had just started these drugs and had been on them for three days when the heart palpitation instance happened. The decongestant is ... I had done a two hour hard workout at the gym which I do regularly 3 times per week and then the heart irregularities started on day 3 of taking the two drugs. A cardiologists now has stuck me on this Toprol 25 MG after that day because it helps with irregular heart beat plus my blood pressure was a bit high around 140/90. I immediately started noticing side effects from the Toprol 25 MG but stayed on it plus the Lisinopril 5 MG and 325 MG Aspirin for about 12 days at that dose. I started side effects like tremors, tiredness, constipation, strange dreams, anxiousness, impotence, and struggled to do my workouts etc. I made some lifestyle changes like eliminating caffeine, alcohol, etc and that plus the medicine reduced my blood pressure below 120/80 a bit. I stopped the Lisinopril on December 3rd and my blood pressure is still normal and reduced the Toprol to 12.5 MG at the same time. I did research and the doctor also thinks the irregularity was due to the Decongestant and Lisinopril I had taken for 3 days as both have heart irregularity and palpitations as a side effect. I decided I want to get off the Toprol XL altogether and let my body go back to normal functioning. All my problems were brought once I started taking medicine and the only real problem I have is high blood pressure which I can control now with life style changes and natural supplements. I called the cardiologist's nurse and she said not to do anything until I see the doctor on December 18th. I had already decided to cut the dose in half to 12.5 MG on December 3rd anyway and the side effects got better, but then I had instance the other night after taking a spin class at the gym whereby my heart beat stayed up around 82 bpm for several hours and normally is 59 pbm. I also felt anxious and couldn't get settled to sleep real well. I read on the warning label that your not supposed to work out during the process of reducing the dosage so I guess I will have to stop working out until I'm off this stuff. I have been an exercise person for 31 years doing at least 5 hours of Cardio Exercise per week and then racing bicycles in the summer months doing 10-12 hours of Cardio Exercise. I really want off this drug so I reduced to 6.25 MG today and will stop working out I guess until I'm off. I feel a little shaky and feel sort of like I could faint if I did to much exertion since reducing to 6.25 MG today. I was wondering how long it take to get off this Toprol since I was only on it for 12 days at the 25 MG dosage and should I keep cutting the dosage and go down to 3.12 MG after a few more days and then eventually off after a few days at 3.12 MG? Then how long once I'm off should I wait to return to my rigorous exercise routine?

On December 5th, I reported that, after stopping the Metoprolol, I was having some minor withdrawal symptoms. As an update, this week has not been good. I've had tightness in the chest, sleeping poorly and some gastric problems. It is now three weeks since the last dose. How long does it take to become symptom free?????

I've been on Lisinopril for almost 2 months. At first I was so tired that I needed a nap about 4 hours after taking it. The dry cough came and went more like a tickle. Went back to the doctor and complained that the sleep rx she gave me didn't work so she prescribed Trazadone 10mg and my Lisinopril is 20mg daily. I awoke the next day with nausea, diarrhea, headache. Decreased Trazadone to 1/2 or 1/4 but the diarrhea has not quit. I called the clinic and was told to stop the Trazadone(who needs sleep right?) and take 1/2 of Lisinpril daily. The diarrhea and the cough will not go away and the cough will come at any time. I'd rather take my chances with the hypertension than this. I am an obese woman but have lost 30 pounds in the last 5 months, so as I continue to lose hopefully I won't need any meds.

My doctor put me on Lisinopril (10 mg) a week ago. On the third day, I felt fatigue, had a cough, entire body soreness, felt feverish, with flu symptoms. My doctor told me to stop taking it for three or four days and start it up again. I did. I felt better, especially on my forth day. I started it up again on a Monday and still felt okay, but the fatigue returned. Today, which is Saturday, I woke up feeling great. I didn't take the Lisinopril until noon time and from then on I have felt very tired. I laid down for six hours, slept two. I still have the cough and have decided to take the Lisinopril at night so that I may sleep better. I go back to my doctor the 11th of October and will let you all know how that turned out.

Glad to find your site. I have been on Lisiopril for 2 years (ever since my Insurance stopped paying for my Aceon and I had to have a substitute drug for blood pressure control). I have had increasing cough and horseness for the past 12 months to the point that I now have 24 hour symptoms! I also have been having leg cramps at night the past few months.
I will stop Lisinopril TODAY. Plan to monitor my blood pressure and see what happens. Does anyone see any problem with doing this?????

I am a relatively healthy 32 year old woman. I was put on Lisinpril approximately 3 weeks ago I experienced stomach pains, diarreah and coughing. The diarreah and stomach pains went away in about two weeks. I thought the cough would also go away with time. It did not it got worse I have never experienced such a horrible cough in my life. I could not even sleep thought the night. I was coughing with so much force that I started to experience stress incontinence. I also sounded like I had been smoking for 40 years and have never smoked a cigarette. I would cough so bad at night I would finally start to gag which would make me vomit. I finally decided I would rather die from a stroke than live a life in constent pain and embarressment. I called my doctor and left a message with a nurse only saying that I have developed a horrible cough. I received a call back saying STOP TAKING LISINOPRIL. My only regret is not calling my doctor sooner. I have been off Lisinopril 3 days and my coughing has decreased some but it has not gone away. How long will it take to feel better?

I am sure glad to hear from other people about the side effects of this drug. It did help bring my blood pressure down, also taking furosemide (lasix) and labetalol, synthroid and was diagnosed diabetic and am controlling it with diet mainly. This all started about 5 months ago, when I found out all these things plus I had pneumonia. I've lost about 60 pounds since then, and have been doing pretty well. My doctor stepped my pressure down, not all at once, and only after she upped the lisinpril did I have any negative reactions, and that was what some might call lightheadedness, but someone on here referred to as "not quite right," and that's what I'd call it.
I woke up Tuesday, went to have breakfast, take my meds, went back to bed as always, maybe nap a bit, or listen to music, dozed off when alarm went off, got up, went to get dressed, then felt the not right feeling only worse, think I sat down, found myself on the floor a minute later, wondering why my face was in the carpet. Luckily,I have only a black eye and some carpet burns. I think it was too much meds, went to my dr, who put me in the hospital, ran ekg, fine, had me on a heart monitor that day, next morning , had a cat scan, found out that was normal this am, but the eeg showed "possible" seizure activity, so I'm waiting to hear about another eeg, when I'm walking around, and to see a neurologist. My dr did cut the lisinopril in half, and seems to be helping. I also have the dry cough, but not too bad.
I'll be checking out the side effects of the other drugs whi;le I wait, too.
Just turned 50 last month, NOT the way to celebrate.
Thanks for being here.

I have experienced many of the side effects listed here. Tightness in chest, heavy congestion, dry cough, etc etc. I have noticed several people here seem to have just stopped using this drug. Is this true? I tried and my BP shot way up higher than before using the drug. I talked to my doctor and we decided to try Altace. I don't seem to have as many side effects with this as Lisinpril but still have some dizzyness and a dry cough. Has anyone had good experience with any of these type of BP medications??

Sometimes not always sure if it is just me( attitude, depression, way of thinking about life) or it is the med?,, of course, it couldnt be the med, right?,, the doc wouldnt give me something that is bad for me, right?.. I have been taking Diovan (40, 80) for about a year or so and 25 hctz,,but I constantly struggle for a feeling of sanity,,(sounds crazy, huh?),, I have anxiety, palps, shortness of breath, tiredness, wake up with heart beating out of chest (thats fun)...so I feel like I am swimming against the tide each day and struggle to feel halfway normal,, its amazing that I can even go to work.
