My experience with Lisinopril is similar to many others here. Mine is further complicated by the combination of drugs I am taking.
Due to my BPH I was taking Proscar and Doxazosin (4mg), the Doxazosin helping with hypertension as well (140/90). My doctor decided to add 5mg of Lisinopril to augment and help lower the blood pressure some more. He also liked the overall helpful aspects of the Lisinopril on the cardiological system. After about a week and a half on this regimine I was having dizzy spells and light headedness.....disconcerting when driving. I also had the infamous dry hacking cough noted my almost everyone. I stopped taking the Lisinopril and things went back to normal.
On my next visit to the doctor, he wanted me back on the Lisinopril but trying 2.5mg doses. That seemed to be OK for awhile. I have now added Flomax to my regimine and noticed the same dizziness problem. So I am staggering my pill taking which seems to be helping somewhat.
However, after three weeks on this program, I am having severe dry hacking cough episodes, 5-10 times per day. Also have to be careful when I stand up due to dizziness. Additionally, I am having sporadic insomnia problems that are out of the ordinary for me. Also, runny nose, sneezing and a tightening feeling in the chest and abdomen.....Almost like a mild flu. The tightening feeling is more like a caffeine overdose high...ergo the insomnia.
I attribute the hacking cough to the Lisinopril. The insomnia could be the same or possibly the Flomax. I'm not sure about the tightness. I plan to stop the Flomax next week when I go back to the Urologist and will stop the Lisopril at the same time and see what happens.
I would be interested in any input readers may have on my dilemma.

I have only been on Lisinopril for about a
week and I knew right away that this drug
is not for me. I am experiencing palpitations,
anxiety, nausea, numbness in my right forearm and I wake up at night with my heart
beating like a drum. I can see I'm not the only one experiencing these awful side effects. I need a new medicine for blood pressure with no side effects or at least minimal side effects I can live with. I was
taking atenolol to start with but that gave me
hives! I'm open to suggestions!

I have been taking Lisopril 10 mg. for only 4 days. Already I have felt terrible. The first 2 days I had so much fatigue and aching in my body - I felt like I had the flu. I spent almost one whole day in bed. Today I was feeling depressed and like I was menopausal again - with heat sensations. Now I notice a red rash on my chin and chest. I am not taking anymore of this medicine! My question is this......I had previously been taking Mavik 2 mg for almost a year. It too is an ACE inhibitor, but I never noticed any side effects with it. The reason the doctor switched me to Lisinopril is because the cost of Mavik is so expensive...even with insurance. Does anyone know, about Mavik? Also, I have taken Atenolol for many years, and if I have side effects, I'm not aware of them. Will I need to ween myself off of the Ace inhibitors? I'd appreciate your comments.

I am 56 years old and I was put on Lisinopril about three months ago.
We had just moved to a different town with a new doctor. The reason I went to the doctors was that I had a bicycle accident where I went over the handle bars (front brakes locked up on me). I was also due for a periodic check up. I was sore from my bike accident (jammed my LH wrist, RH elbow, both shoulders and knees). The doctor had no x-ray machines so he sent me to the urgent care, nothing was broken. My doctor said that I would be sore for awhile and gave me some Vicodin pain medicine.
Due my periodic exam the doctor suggested that I go on Lisinopril because I am a diabetic, even though my blood pressure is OK. He said that he actually takes it because of the preventive nature of the drug.
Well, as the weeks went on I continued to have aches and pains in my joints (wrist, elbow, shoulders and shoulders), which I thought was from my bike accident. I also play seniors softball which is not a very aggressive sport. Well I've had a pulled hamstring and achilles tendon pull during playing. Thought this was normal but these injuries continued to plague me.
At nights sleeping my shoulders & neck would ach. My knees would shoot pains. My ankles constantly ache, day & night.
A friend of mine told me about taking black cherry juice for joint pains, maybe from gout. After taking this black cherry juice it seemed to help, but still not normal.
Today I stopped at our local taven to have a berr and talk softball with the guys. I broke out in a heavy cold sweat and almost pasted out, lightheaded. I thought I was having a heart attack or something. Being very concerned I told my wife who is an RN. She read the side effects of Lisinopril and it clicked. This web site helped me figure it out also.
I am taking myself off Lisinopril today and expect improvement and my life back. I thought all this was from my accident and getting older. I am excited to see the results, which I feel very positive about.
