I have had migraines for 4 years almost on a daily basis and nothing has worked. Finally started Topamax, the first week iI felt like i had a stroke, my speech was slurred, I couldn't concentrate, I was exhausted couldn't make complete sentences, numbness in hands and feet and every thing tastes bad., I had been on 4 pills a days to start so decreased to one-i believe it it 50 mg. worked well then headaches began again after 2 weeks, so increased to 2 then again in a few weks to 3 now i have had only 3 migraines in 3 months. Still have the numbness and taste aversion but I have never felt better as far as migraines. My new problem is I am having a lot of digestive issues including cramping and constant acidy, bubbly, gassy, bloating feeling and no gas x, pepto or anything works??? Is this a side effect or something unrelated??

hi sleepless,
i have a male reg md he's such an ass.i told him about having a racing heartbeat.he told me i had depression.that was before i found this group i had no idea yasmin could cause it. i also wasted a copy pay to a dr when i was 19 i was put on flexral it gave me tremors & that ass hole dr told me it wasn't the flexral.i made him pick up the book off the floor look inside then he goes i had no idea stop the flexral.never saw that dr again.i guess i'm one of the lucky ones who has a male gyn dr thats listens to me.i told my gyn dr in dec about my racing heartbeat & my period lasting 3 weeks.he told me he never heard of it but to be on the safe side stop the yasmin & try lo/ovral.well lo/ovral was no good gave me a severe headache,7 week long period.i wanted to get back to my reg gyn gave me anyone in the group he was nice but i need more info on what happened to cause me to get a 7 week period, huge clot take this new pill your going to be ok.thats not an answer.maybe all of us ladies should boycot any & all birthcontrol pills to see how we all are after that.these pills aren't worth the trouble.
take care

I started on Topamax a month ago and the first five days were wonderful. I bounced out of bed in the morning after a good night's sleep and felt wonderful all day. I take fifty mg. at night. On the sixth day I noticed I ached in my head and legs. My head felt like it was stuffed full of cotton and after a few more days I was having a hard time thinking and my sleep patterns started getting messed up. Two weeks into this pill and my legs were stiff and my feet burned while my arms ached and my hands and fingers tingled and twitched. I'm a newly wed and love my husband but you'd never know it if you were in our bedroom the past couple of weeks. He keeps asking what is wrong and all I can say is I think it's the topamax. After I snarled at him Saturday he looked at me and said...you have to get off that crap, it's doing you no good whatsoever. I agree with him and am making an appt. with my doctor today. I only hope she listens to me.

SURPRISE! It appears that when one speaks to her doctor in an authoritative, nonhysterical tone, and with knowledge and intelligence about the subject, that doctor actually listens. I insisted my endocrinologist take me off Lipitor because of extreme side effects developing after a couple of years on it (unbearable muscle pains, edema in ankles and hands, unexplained rashes, tinnitus, vision problems) and he did exactly that without so much as a howdy-do or a doubt that I might be exaggerating my symptoms. Said we would check my cholesterol again during next visit and look for another solution, if it rose again over 200. I am now a happy camper and will report to those of you suffering similar symptoms about the results of this rather peremptory cessation of this scary drug. If I keel over, at least I won't die in pain, huh? And if I don't, you guys can consult similarly with your doctors.

i STARTED TAKEING SYNTHROID OVER FIVE MONTHS AGO. tHE FIRST DAY i FELT GREAT AND THEN MY SYMPTOMS THAT I STARTED WITH CAME BACK PLUS MORE LIKE CHEST PAIN AND WIERD FEELING IN MY THROUT. THE DOCTOR SAID IT WAS NORMAL BUT I COULD INCREASE MY DOSAGE TO A PILL AND A HALF. i DID THAT AND i EXPERIANCED LOSS OF MENTAL CONSENTRATION, EXTREM FEELINGS OF STRESS WHEN THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT IRRITABILITY. TO A POINT THAT i BEGAN HAVEING ANGER EPISODES. i DECIDED TO SEE A DIFFERENT dOCTOR AND HAD MY bLOOD TESTS FAXED TO HIM. oNLY TO FIND OUT THE ORIGINAL DOCTOR APPARENTLY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO READ THE TEST RESULTS. i WAS NOT HYPOTHYROID BUT I WAS HYPERTHYROID. IF THE NUMBERS ARE LOW THAT MEANS YOUR BODY IS CREATEING TO MUCH HORMONE WHICH IS HYPERTHYROID IF THE NUMBERS ARE HIGH THAT MEANS YOUR BODY IS NOT CREATING ENOUGH HORMONE WHICH MEANS THAT YOU ARE HYPOTHYROID. I HAVE BEEN OF SYNTHROID FOR TWO WEEKS AND FEEL TEN TIMES BETTER. ALTHOUGH I MAY HAVE MORE PERMANENT DAMAGE. IT IS OK TO SEE OTHER DOCTORS. I HAVE BEEN INTERVIEWING DOCTORS FOR YEARS THANK GOD I HAVE FINALLY FOUND ONE THAT IS INTERESTED IN MY HEALTH AND LISTENS TO ME.

PLease be careful. I have been on a suppression therapy dose of synthroid for over 8 yrs. I had thyroid cancer and my endocrinologist said I needed to keep my tsh between .3-5.6. For the last yr I have been feeling awful. My heart rate was arnd 145, I had shortness of breath, muscle aches, hair falling out, could barely eat but I gained about 30 lbs because I was swelling up from edima. I had almost every symptom of being hyperthyroid. My endo said I ran on high test!! I thought I was going crazy. I was on 2mcgs of synthroid. My tsh level became .009 and then became non-exsistent(.oooo) I now have dialated cardiomyopathy, and congestive heart failure.
So if you are not on the correct dose you can have very serious side effects. Make sure your levels are checked on a regular basis. If you are not feeling right make sure someone , like a dr listens to you and hears your symptoms. I had repeated ly told my dr how I was feeling and he said I needed to be suppressed. to prevent cancer returning, well after almost dying from heart failure how suppressed should someone be????? Now My entire live is suppressed....

I was prescribed 25 MCG tabs of levothyroxine (generic for Levoxyl) by my MD for my hypothyroid. (I was tested at a 4.5 reading -- just below a normal 5 reading). After 60 days of taking levothyroxine EXACTLY as prescribed (i.e.; on an empty stomach, 1st thing in the morning with a glass of water; no vitamins for at least 4 hrs afterward), I started to have symptoms that I've never experienced before: my hands began hurting so bad with joint pain; my lips felt numb; and I was sweating more than I ever had in my life. I decided to stop taking the medication due to these symptoms, and in about 7-10 days from stopping, ALL these symptoms had disappeared and have not returned to date. I relayed this information to my MD who told me that my symptoms had nothing to do with Levothyroxine and that I needed to continue taking the drug. It's more than strange to me how some MDs will not listen to his/her patient -- even more so now that I've read other info on the internet where many other people have had these same side effects taking levothyroxine!! On my own, I am now looking into taking an all natural alternative that I found on wellness resources called "Thyroid helper". I will not take Levothyroxine again if I can avoid it by taking an alternative. Has anyone else out there had success taking "Thyroid Helper"?
