I began taking omeprazole in early june for burning in my stomach for gerd. I started with 20mg twice a day. I felt extremely bloated. I couldn't eat, or lay down. I had to sleep sitting up, and even that didn't work. I was regurgitating the little food I ate. I told my doctor, and he told me to go down to just one pill a day. The bloating went down for about four days, and then came back. I am not on this drug anymore... it has been two weeks. I had an endoscopy yesterday, and I was told that there was a bit of inflammation in my lower esophogus, and stomach (no bleeding). Well the burning pain is gone, but now I am dealing with indigestion. I get a full stomach after only a few bites of food. I am only able to eat one meal a day. I can't drink much water because of the full feeling I have all day. I am very frustrated since I can barely eat (I feel dizzy as a result). I think this drug has thrown my digestive system off balance as I did not have these symptoms before the drug. I understand that this drug changes the ph of the stomach acid as well as lessening the production of it. Because of this, it can potentially bring a bacterial infection, and digestive enzymes cannot help digest food under these conditions. Gastritis can come about from the bacteria, and if I am lucky and do not have this, well I may have indigestion due to lack of certain enzymes. I am trying to get to the bottom of this. I bought digestive enzymes to take, but I want to get a blood test first to check to see if I am lacking this. Is anyone having the same symptoms as me? I will update.

I have taken this medication on and off for many years. I think any antibiotic class will affect people differently. I cannot take penicillins or sulphur drugs anymore, after years of taking them. Penicillin landed me in the hosp with anaphylactic shock. Cephalexin (one of the cephalosporins) is the only class of antibiotics I can take.

Right now, I have a tooth abscess that has been hurting me for 3 days straight. This is not the most effective a/b for dental, I don't think, since it doesn't seem to be doing much good.

I don't have side effects from this medication as long as I take it with food. However, that can be lots of medications - they can be hard on the tummy lining, so a little food really helps. I don't take anything dairy while I am on this medication either.

I saw someone posted about problems, but were taking a pill every hour - I can't imagine any doctor prescribing that high of a dose! So, not sure if you were trying to create a side effect, or what, but I hope you cut back. I've taken this for years, and can't see where more than 2,000 mg a DAY would be safe to take.

Always talk to your doctor if you have anything out of the normal for you when taking ANY medication. Some of the side effects could be from your illness, not your medication.

Meanwhile, I hope this one stays around forever, because it is all I can take!

Very odd - I seem to have chronic bacterial prostatitis (at 25 years old and in very good shape, it's embarassing).

I tried Cipro, but it screwed up my muscles (I work out alot) and then was prescribed Doxy. Doxy seemed to make my symptoms better, but it didn't eradicate the infection - I've been on it almost non-stop for two months.

Side effects WERE minimal - irritated esophagus/throat, some bloating and gas. THEN - just the other night, after counting 30 minutes, I went to bed. Soon after I felt this chest pain, relatively sharp, somewhat burning. My mouth on the inside started to tingle even - I was scared as all hell that it was my heart, but this really seemed like the drug.

Woke up 6 hours later to go to university (basically seven hours after the pill was taken), and after eating a little food, had the same pains again, though not as extreme. I've stopped the drug now and am scared to go back to it.

Anyone have a similar issue?

I've been on Doxycyclene for 2 weeks now. I was trying to get rid of my acne. I've vomited twice. (The likelihood of this increases when there's very little food in the tum)Before I vomited, I'd feel like I was having a heart attack. A sudden tightness in the chest, breathing became difficult, a depression that felt like the end of the world. All eventually leading up to vomiting. My acne hasn't witnessed much improvement either. Either it doesn't suit me or I haven't been taking it properly.

I started taking DOXY 100 Mg twice daily for MILD cystic acne, together with a DUAC Gel in the morning. I took the first pill with a little food, but no dairy, and felt a little loopy. I noticed myself getting severly dehydrated also, and had to slam a lot of water (like 32-44 oz.) I took the second dose at around 5pm; by 11:00 PM I was experiencing a severe pain in my head just above and behind my left ear. I guess it could be considered a skin pain, but it feels deep; putting my sunglasses on sparked it up this morning. The pain is very acute and comes in waves of 10 -12, 10-15 second shooting pains in each wave. I discontinued the meds after seeing some of the similar "nerve pain" postings here and will advise my doctor on Monday.
