Seriously this is ridiculous. I have been dealing with all of these same issues and have been debating on whether to see a counselor because I feel like I am losing my mind! My boyfriend tells me I have mood swings and my mom says she cant even talk to me anymore. I had an acquaintance at work tell me that she hopes that I am okay because I look so down. I am anxious and depressed - have to self talk just to get out of bed. During the month if I am not cramping - my breast are almost to sore to move. I read someone on hear define a side effect of vibrating sensations throughout their body I get that for at least a week and a half every month. I would describe it as how you feel when you first are coming down with the flu....kinda achey. I was actually off for a week a few months ago due to extreme vertigo. I wondered if there was a correlation...from what I read I guess so. I have severe lower back pain -sometimes to much to stand straight and walk. I am so frustrated because I was told no side effects. I had Norplant back in 1991 and gained 70 pounds in 5 months. Well I am up to 19 pounds with Mirena - it hasn't been quite a year. I told the doctors that I had significant weight gain with Norplant and developed a blood clot while using the pill. I was assured no such side effects with Mirena. Mirena was a great choice for women who cant take anything else! I feel so misled!

Hi ladies
I am sitting here in tears reading all your posts! I haven't felt myself since I had my Mirena IUD inserted in Nov 2006! I had it done after the birth of my third child thinking it would be the perfect solution in not getting pregnant. Boy was I wrong! I feel like my life has fallen apart. I'm constantly moody, aggravated, irritable, angry, impatient, little sex drive, foggy and blurry vision, weight gain in places I didn't think possible, lower back pain, headaches that never seem to end and the list goes on! I have had a feeling about the Mirena being the cause for some time now and am not sure why I haven't researched it yet (I'm a research junky).
I'm making a phonecall right now to my midwife to get this thing out of me and claim my life back. I'm definitely doing a detox on top of that too!
Thanks for sharing all your stories and WHEN THE HECK ARE WE GOING TO TAKE SOME LEGAL ACTION!!???

I had my mirena inserted about 13 months ago before Christmas after the birth of my 2nd child , I was naturally shedding the baby weight until Mirena came into my life and then I gained 10lbs effortlessly within 2 months! even though my diet is always the same (I am coeliac). I had to start working out running 4 times a week and gradually have lost 8lbs but its been a huge battle.
Last May I woke up one morning bright red covered in a sunburn type rash all over my body it was scary, my joints ached so bad and my hands and feet were really swollen as if my body was reacting to something.. my gp did some blood tests and nothing it kept happening for 2 weeks and then the rash went,..I put it down to a virus at the time but felt as weak as a kitten and suffered night sweats, anxiety and flu like symptoms for months.
Ive had to really fight to keep up my running because most of the time I feel tired and depressed and run down and I have awful PMT the past few months have been dreadful I feel rubbish most of the time..everyone is getting on my nerves, I have little sex drive too and I am sure its down to the Mirena..its side affects remind me of the mini-pill which I took once for a few months it sent me so extremely loopy (paranoid and anxious) that my husband flushed them down the toilet!! well I think its the same/similar type of synthetic hormone that my body DOES NOT agree with.
I saw my Gp the other day and asked her about the side affects and she still said that I shouldn't have any after a year and it was very rare but after reading about it on here I cant believe it... its obvious and Im getting it removed. Ive had over a year of feeling terrible and various ailments so much so that I think my immune system (which is already sensitive) has suffered.

I've been on Aviane for much longer than most people in this thread, about 7 years. I hadn't had problems, but lately have problems with spotting before my period, weight gain, excessive appetite, and very little sex drive. I seem to be more interested in sex while I have my period (the week I'm not taking the pill), but this is less than ideal! Think it's time I stop and let my body get back to normal!

Okay, you might think I was the THE spokesperson for Mirena when I previously posted. What I was trying to convey was that we can have similar symptoms even without the IUD if our eating habits and lifestyle are not healthy and if we have our hands full with raising little ones. I didn't want to mislead anyone into thinking that I was symptom free myself. I had many, many good days of feeling great once the 6 month of unpredictable spotting/bleeding was over. However, I have a laundry list of things that were not right and recently had the Mirena removed. The things I'm reading on the site are pretty right on: Fatigue, no to little sex drive, weight gain (expect 7-10 pounds), pain at times during sex, did I mention FATIGUE?, bloated (looking 4-5 months prego at times). After 2 years, I had one whole week of cramping no period and was starting to get sharp pains. I had had enough and had it removed. I need to say that I have never felt better. I had a big period the moment it was removed. I think it's bogus that it thins the lining of the uterus. If that were true, I would not have had a period for a while. It was just the opposite. I had a real heavy one. But boy was it a relief. I don't know what to expect in the coming months with PMS and so forth. I am banking on eating right and exercise and limiting caffeine, sugar and any thing that would affect my emotions and weight.
I'll post again later and let everyone know how the weight loss is going. I did lose 3 pounds after a couple of days. Whew! I had gained 10 with it in the first year. Blessings to all! John 3:16

I'm not looking to offend anyone, but if you look up the FDA info on Mirena, the symptoms many of the ladies here are complaining of ARE listed. So for those who claim to feel deceived, I think that they most likely did not do the research they ought have done. If you are going to be shoving some foreign object into your body, and for such a long period of time, It seems common sense that you'd want to know everything there is to know about it beforehand. It's your body- show some responsibility and take charge of yourself. Just like a car salesman, the doctor is going to tell you what you want to hear in order to make the sale. It's up to you to find the truth. And the truth is not that hard to find.
I did research Mirena before choosing to use it. Not just by reading the pamphlets, comparing to other birth control methods and talking to my ob/gyn, but also by browsing through forums filled with horror stories like this one. I have had Mirena for about 1 year. I barely noticed the insertion. I had minimal cramping the day of insertion. I think I bled for a couple weeks. Over the course of about 6 months, my periods got shorter, lighter, and disappeared completely. Once in awhile I will have some brownish spotting, but it is rare. I have no pains or weight gain. My husband only feels the strings in certain positions. The negative effects I have noticed are that my face is extremely oily, I'm fatigued, I have little sex drive and I'm irritable. Besides these, I am very happy with Mirena. I get baby fever rather easily, and even though I have had three children in just over four years, without Mirena I would most likely be pregnant again at this very moment.
Of course my doctor raved about Mirena ("My wife LOVED it!"). He's paid to do that. The same guy tried coercing me into inducing my last labor just so that he wouldn't have to be woken out of bed if it started naturally in the middle of the night. Guess what! I DID drag his butt out of bed in the middle of the night, and I chose Mirena because I decided it was the best option, NOT because he told me it was.

I have very little little sex drive since putting the Mirena in in early June 2008. I figured maybe it was the constant bleeding/spotting (maybe less then a week blood free days a month) for more than three months (i was warned but now am taking extra hormones to stop that, but still bleeding after two weeks). I've had very very frequent headaches and find myself taking painkillers 4 times a week, this is the most worrisome for me personally.
But a very big problem is that my husband can feel the strings during sex and finds it really uncomfortable, basically, session over straight away. I've had the strings shortened recently but it hasn't changed in his perception. Feel like we've given it a fair trial but Mirena has basically meant an end to our sex life, not just from me feeling rather uninterested in it and trying to avoid it, but also from him being seriously affected by it! It may be the position of my uterus.

I had the Mirena put in March of 2005 and I thought I loved it. UNTIL...... I started doing some research. I have had cysts on my ovaries since January of 2006 and questionable lumps in my breasts, very fatigue, very little sex drive, weight gain (typically weighing 108 I now weigh 122) and head aches every day. I always had an excuse until one day a light bulb went off it has to be the MIRENA. So I researched the side effects of MIRENA and behold I found everything I was experiencing listed about - buyer beware type thing. I had the MIRENA removed today. The cysts on my ovaries are about 2cm big and the lump is about 6cm big - I pray that having this thing out of me will resolve all of the problems I have had. I will keep you posted.

Okay ladies this kinda weird for me but i need answers!!! I am a 26 year old male, my now x-girlfriend and i were together for almost ten years in which she was always on the depo shot once every three months i beleive was the dosage. Things were never perfect between us but for the last year and a half we both felt things were going in a very good direction. This problem started when we talked about why she she had very little sex drive, so she talked to her doctor and they decided to put her on Ortho-Tri cyclene she was on that for i believe about 5 months inwhich she started to retain water pretty bad so like most women she had to do something about this problem, again goes to the doctor and he doc tells hr that Yasmin was the answer to the problem. Just for the record about 3 or 4 days before she started taking the Yasmin she told me just how incredibly happy she was with were our relationship has gone. Well sunday came and she started the new birth control as the week went on there were no side effects until Friday May 6th (her birthday) she spent the day shopping with her mother and we had dinner plans at 6pm, well we meet up and she tells me we need to talk!!! I sit down on the couch and she tells me we shouldnt be together and that she decided this sometime during the week of the 6th!!! At first I never thought it was the bc but i have since changed my tune. This girl has always made me her #1 priority and all of a sudden she turns into a cold hearted @%^#* doesnt even let me talk or anything, just keeps telling me that this is how it is and i should deal with!! I instantly lost control of my emotions and went in a state of manic depression (basicly just wanted to be dead) Well i made though all this and stopped communicating with her or should i say trying to communicate w her in about the middle of July. Basicly told myself that it was my fault and on and on, well all of a sudden the last week of October comes and she calls out of the blue!! Telling me how she cant get me off of her mind, i felt elated and told her that love is hard to cover up. Then i find out that she was almost done with her period, which means she was taking the reminders and her real feelings were once again comming out, well we have been hanging out and decided that the problem with our past is that we never had a good solid friendship, just basicly relied on one another!! So great we are going to make this work right?? One other thing is that she was very reluctant to start taking the bc after her last period because she didnt want those feeling to go away, i didnt want to be controlling and told her that it was decsision she has to make in order to be happy. Well she wanted to test the whole idea of the bc being a factor and started taking it again and now she tells me that she just doesnt feel the same way about me as she once did, i want to remind you that she has always been confident in us and it just seems like this damn pill is screwing with her head MAJORLY!!! What do i do ???????????? I feel like im being cheated out of the love of my life......
Sorry its so long alot to think about everyday, i just want her back to normal ---Chad----

I had been taking Yasmin for 3 years. I didn't really notice any side effects, but in the last year I started to get really grouchy and mad all the time. Also I had very little sex drive when I started taking them. I have only gained about 7lbs in those three years. I just came off Yasmin July 14 in hopes of becoming pregnant, even if I don't become pregnant I hope I will stop being so moody since I am off of them. Also my sex drive has came back in just 2 weeks after stopping. If you are trying to decide on a bc pill Yasmin isn't that bad, especially if you compare them to other pills.

I have been on Yasmin for over 5 years, and just thought that I was a hypochondriac. After starting Yasmin I experienced severe nausea and unrelieved hunger pains. I saw a gastroenterologist who performed an EGD and Colonoscopy at the age of 20. It was normal and I was placed on Protonix to help with the GI issues. Also I have severe joint pains in my knees, hips, elbows and shoulders. I have been tested for everything from Lupus to Rheumatoid Arthritis, and it was all negative. I get headaches, have little sex drive if any, my skin is not clearer than usual and nor has it been since starting Yasmin. Thanks to all those people who have voiced their concerns and shared their stories, it makes us feel less crazy. I threw out all my birth control pills last night and I am going to try another form of contraceptive. I mean my headaches and chest pains have gotten so bad that they have forced me to go to the ER on several occasions. I DO NOT THINK THE BENEFITS OF YASMIN OUTWEIGH THE RISKS ASSOCIATED.
