My 7 1/2 mth old daughter was prescribed Omnicef for an ear infection. She has been on another Cephalasporin based drug before but with this one she has had episodes of vomiting (approx 1 1/2 hr after receiving the medication) as well as bright orange/red loose stools. After doing some reading it says that the red stools can sometimes be caused by a reaction with iron supplements - the same that she has in her formula but I'm more concerned over the diarrhea mainly because both my husband and I are working full-time and I can't take her to child care with the diarrhea but we can't afford to stay home for the 10 day course. Of course Lizzy is receiving the medicaiton once daily and although I haven't spoken to her Dr. yet (I'm calling tomorrow( I'm wondering if we should split the dose into twice daily. Otherwise she still seems happy and bright. Eating okay and interacting normally. I guess I'll see what the doctor says tomorrow

Lizzy,
Isn't it unreal that no docs will admit the correlation of Yasmin and the side effects of anxiety, pounding heart, weight gain, etc? How can we all be experiencing this with one common denominator - -YASMIN?

I am almost 3 weeks post Yamin, on Xanax and Paxil for about 10 days or so, which I hope to wean within 4-6 months. I have never taken any medication of this kind in my life! I can feel myself getting better day by day, I hope it keeps up.

Good luck on finding a competent doc when you return to N.O. I hope that it all works out for you.

One thing that is helping me is that I cut out caffeine. I used to love Crystal lite teas, diet coke, etc.... I drink lots of water and I think it is helping (I suppose that it cannot hurt). I also am careful not to have any alcohol. I never was much of a drinker but I won't even have an occasional glass of wine until I get better.

Reading the last few posts I again want to tell you that I didn't have that feelings for my husband, that I now have again, for years!!!! That never happened before taking Yasmin and after stopping it those feelings came back within a few months. I even didn't realize that I had lost them. Everything was just "numb" as the last poster wrote... And suddenly I looked at my husband with completely "different eyes". It felt as if my brain had realized again that he was a MAN and not just a THING that's living beside me!! So believe, it was just the Yasmin!!!

To Lizzy:

Thank you so much for your post!! It's so good to hear, that you found a doctor who really is willing to admit a connection between Yasmin and our symptoms!! I finally found a family doctor who also always believed in me and was sure, that it was NOT "just stress" causing all this problems!! And I know how good that feels to finally hear that!! And there's even not many doctors that admit, the problems brought on by a bcp or the hormonal imbalance caused by it can even last for years!! I read that in some forums, too, but it's really good to hear, that a doctor is telling you the same!!

Please everone keep on posting, it's so relieving to read of other women's experiences, especially when you're still within that mess and don't know if you ever will be fine again...

I'm also glad to hear, that it's pretty normal not being 100% ok even after nearly 1 year AFTER Yasmin. It's so important to hear from women, that have gone through that all and perhaps are finally back to totally normal again, no matter if it had lasted years!!

Best wishes to all of you out there!! We're on the right way!!

Silke

I am in tears after finding this site!! I was on Yasmin for three years and finally went off of it a little over a year ago. It has been hell ever since!! My doctors tested me for everything under the sun and came up with the conclusion that it was just stress!! It took a trip to the emergency room at 5:00 am for a panic attack to finally have a doctor agree with what I had been saying all along--it was the effects of going off the yasmin. He said it can take years for your body to be normal again. This is the first month that I have had a some what normal period. It had been lasting for 8 or 9 days some months and when it was over watch out!! My anxiety was so bad on a few occasions I had myself convinced that I was going crazy! I am so happy I found this site. My sympathy goes out to all the other women that are suffering. Hang in there and always keep in mind that you are not alone!! Lizzy

i've been just put on the medication prednisone about a month ago. i started at 75 mg a day to currently 50 mg a day. the docter will decrease my dose next month to probably 25 mg, although i was curious to know about how low does the dose have to be until i start to notice the side effects go down, and how long after reducing the dose does it take to notice a difference? currently i am experienceing quite a puffy face, some acne, and some weight gain.
if anyone has an answer to my question, i'd love it if you could email me and tell me. ******
thank you.
