I am a 35 year old male in perfect health. last week i received two Kenalog injections in my trap muscles to to treat muscle spasms{trigger points) from a pinched nerve in my back. When I went home later that day as I layed down I begin having severe heart palpitations. I went to my doctor and my blood pressure was very high 169/94 with a heart rate of 127. For the last week I have been experiencing anxiety attacks, insomnia, hot flashes, sweating, nervousness jittery, very emotional. I had my heart checked out and had bloodwork drawn all normal. I was put on lopressor 50 mg 2times per day and xanax to help me sleep at night. I am crawling out of my skin! I can feel my heart beating all hours of the day and night! It is driving me crazy!! I regret getting the injection!!! The doctor told me it could take 2 months before the steroid leaves my body. I hope I will not have any lasting affects of the drug! I am very nervous these symptoms will not go away! I also am experiencing headaches and burning in my stomach. I am also always hungry and yet I am losing weight.Im thinking about seeing an endocrinologist. Im scared!!

16 yr old daughter was given 1st injection in June 2008, her arm ached for several days thereafter. We never took her for her second injection since the various side effects were mentioned on the news shortly after the first injection. Daughters medical history was unremarkable prior to the Gardasil injection. Within a few weeks of the injection my daughter was at a concert with friends when she became dizzy, lightheaded, nauseated, having chest pains with a squeezing sensation, heart racing so fast she said she thought it was going to jump out of her chest. In November 2008 the same symptoms appeared again and my daughter passed out at the local Mall. Now, last week April 16, 2009 my daughter was at home when these same symptoms presented and wife rushed her to hospital. She was having SVT's (Supra Ventricular Tachycardia) with a heart rate of 283!. The ER staff quickly went into action and attempted to Cardiovert her (Shock Her Heart) into a normal sinus rhythm. After three unsuccessful attempts they finally was able to bring her heart rate down to a manageable level (150 beats per minute) by the use of the drug Lopressor. She is now home and doing fine but is on the cardiac drug, Toprol XL to keep her heart rate down to the high 80's and low 90's. We are to see a Pediatric Cardiologist on April 29, 2009.

03/11/09 went in to have a blood test the MD had ordered. I met with the Md-- told him that the metoprolol 100mg twice a day had not agreed with me. I asked to change my prescription to what i had been taking before -- Norvasc 5mg twice a day along with a diuretic. A week later I went for my lab results. The AST(SGOT) 232 and ALTSGPT) 516, being dangerously high. Md asked if I had ever had hepatitis B. My answer was no. I asked him to check my blood test results of 11/08. The results were AST(SGOT) 24 and ALT(SGPT) 37. I told him I thought it could be the Metoprolol. The Md told me he wanted for me to have CAT scan and to refer me to a GI doctor. Went home praying to the GOOD LORD and received peace about this whole situation. I searched on the internet and found on ****** Metoprolol-induced hepatitis: is the rate of oxidation related to drug-induced hepatotoxicity?L. MS.
University Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, United Kingdom. Hepatology. 1989 Jan;9(1):163-4. Also found Hepatic toxicity is reported in at least one case report. ******
" 56-year-old female with a history of migraine headaches developed seronegative hepatitis associated with metoprolol. Her signs and symptoms resolved within 48 hours after discontinuing metoprolol, and were reproducible on rechallenge."
My results for hepatits were negative. On 3/31/09 I had lab tests and 4/01/09 the Md faxed my results AST(SGOT) 29 and ALT(SGPT) 43. I have not gone back to the doctor. I am taking milk thistle daily. I have learned a valuable lesson and am passing it on to others.

At thirty-two, active, healthy and slender I developed unexplained Hypertension. I was put on Lopressor.
I relocated to the Southwest. My new doctor changed my blood pressure medication to Lisinopril. I balked at changing what had been working well for me (14 years). I pointed out my history of allergies and drug sensitivities. I told her I had gone into Anaphylaxis from bee venom and another prescription drug. She told me that she was the doctor and I was not. She said that Lopressor, a Beta Blocker was a poor choice of medicine for me because I am an Asthmatic. I began the Lisinopril the following day. My second day on it I had a severe headache, the next day this was accompanied by tightness in my chest and a feeling of suffocation. By day three I also had edema in my face, hands, feet and was very short of breath and mildly dizzy. I was weak and could barely get out of bed. I called the doctor and she was unavailable but I spoke to the RN who listened carefully. She said she would speak with the doctor and call me back. Several hours later the RN called and told me that the doctor said these were not unusual symptoms when you first start Lisinopril. She said they would go away in a few days. I was to continue the medication. With trepidation I followed her instructions. Within an hour my face was numb, I had severe pain going down my arm, I felt like my chest was in a vice, I was gasping for breath and wheezing. The pain was excruciating. I was certain I was having a heart attack. I was taken to the ER. They immediately did an EKG and started an IV line. The EKG indicated I was apparently having a heart attack. They began all sorts of heart protocols, medication into the IV, blood work, etc. They tested me for Pulmonary Embolism. Still waiting for the blood results, they injected me with a radioactive isotope and began an MRI of my heart . By this time I broke out in hives all over my body, was itching like crazy and my eyes swelled shut and I felt my throat closing. I was immediately taken out of the MRI and given an injection. I began to get better. I was admitted to the hospital, a non- ER doctor came to see me the next day. After reviewing my entire chart and talking with me extensively he determined that I had had an anaphylactic reaction to the Lisinopril. He told me that Lisinopril is contraindicated in persons who are allergic to bees.

Anyone else experienced weight gain and swelling of ankles and legs when taking Lisinopril? I've gained 15 pounds in the past 9 months even though I'm not eating anymore than usual. And in the past 4 months, the swelling in my ankles and lower legs is worse then when I went on the drug. My blood pressure is consistent at around 120 over 70 but the side effects have me worried. Is there an alternative?

I am a 55 year old female. I had a heart attack in July -08. I had a stent placed. Since then I have been on Plavix, Lopressor, Lisinopril and Lipitor. I have been back to the Hospital 2 times since then. The first time they found nothing. The second time I had to have another stent place because the first one didn't work. This last time they did another catheter and found nothing. I have episodes every couple days of Light headedness, heart pounding, stomach upset, confusion , really bad burping and sometimes diarrhea. I am at my wits end. I have lost 30 lbs and am weak most of the time. I was very active before all this and can't get back on my feet. When I ask about the medicines, the doctors say I don't think it's that. Someone please help!

Chest Pain (external), shallow breath, shortness of breath, anxiety, mild depression, lethargy.

I have just started taking Toprol XL 50 MG because of a scary Atrial Fibrillation episode last week.

When I was 30 my Doctor opter to put me on Norvasc to "control" my BP. My BP was 130/73. A couple of years later my new doctor changed me to Lotrel 5/10. My BP stayed in the same range despite me exercising less and gaining weight, and drinking more. Basically, I did all the wrong things. Despite that I never had any side effects from either Norvasc or Lotrel. Only other thing to note is I do have sleep apnea, untreated as of yet.

Well, last week as I stated, I had an episode and went to the ER. They pushed Lopressor and eventually Toprol to get my A-Fib back to level. I was completely freaked out of course. I went to my doctor the next day and he prescribed Toprol XL 50 MG at bedtime, and to stop the Lotrel.

I have been taking this drug now for 4 days. Here is my experience...

I take the pill with dinner at around 9 pm. I then go to bed soon after. While I lie in bed, I feel like I need to consciously breath or I will stop breathing. If I get up this feeling goes away. My breaths are very shallow. I have sleep apnea, so I can visualize myself falling asleep and not breathing. I do have some anxiety surrounding this, but I would not say it is out of ordinary. Right now it is 3:33 am and I cannot sleep due to this issue. Every time I start to fall asleep I jolt back awake because I feel like I am not breathing.

In the past three mornings, I wake up and feel anxious and downright depressed. I feel tired and wrung out. This appears to last until approximately 1 pm and then things start looking up. Then at 9 pm the whole cycle starts again.

My mother and father take this medication. My father takes 2 * 100MG and he does not complain of side effects. My mother takes 2 * 50 MG and she has similar side effects as what I have described.

Hi- I was on Lopressor 50mgs. twice a day for my slightly elevated BP, MVP, SVT, palpitations, and anxiety attacks. Started having some intermittent chest pain (not bad, just annoying). Dr. switched me to Toprol XL 100 mg/day. Of course, insurance made me get Metoprolol ER 100 mg/day (the generic) but I haven't had a problem with it!! I love taking just 1 pill a day instead of having to juggle the two pills and remembering if and when I took them. I take the pill every morning with breakfast (which is usually an apple and a small bowl of cereal and a glass of water). I have gained some weight since being on the Lopressor, but I started the Dash Diet and have lost about 8 lbs. in about 4 months, not too good but I'm not following the diet as well as I should be! I also get tired and occasionally have problems with hearburn and gas, but anytime you take any kind of medication you will have side effects. Wish I didn't have to take any meds but am not willing to subject myself to the effects of high blood pressure, I would rather have the side effects from the meds. My BP is usually 110/75 now and my heart rate is around 70-75. I'm 47 years old and feeling like I might make it into my 90's now!!

I have been on 10 mg Lisinopril for 5 weeks. I wake up in the morning with tight joints and sore muscles. My heart races. I feel light headed at times. I have asthma and worst symptom is it is causing me to stay up all night because I suffocate and cough badly if I lie down. I can hear myself wheeze during the day and night and feel like there is fluid around my heart or lungs. My hands and legs feel swollen. My stomach feels raw and I have no desire to eat red meat it just doesn't taste the same. My taste buds have totally changed as any food or drinks doesn't tastes "good" anymore. I'm also on Lopressor for HTN. I am going to stop taking the Lisinopril as I can not deal with the suffocating and wheezing. I get that more than the "cough" the doctor warned me about.

I thought I had already posted, but it isn't showing up. I am a 61 yr. old female who suddenly developed high bp in Dec. (sometimes 195/90) and had never had high bp. They tried a couple of different meds before lopressor (toprol?) and Norvasc worked. My bp is normal for me now, but after about 2 weeks I started getting numbness, tingling, a cold clamminess in one spot on my left leg. The numbness started gradually, and would change from a hand to a foot, but would go away. Eventually, it started being basically all over every day. I took a Xanax one day just because it was driving me crazy, and the numbness went away, so my doctor felt it had to be anxiety or the Zanaax wouldn't help. I had read that this could be a side effect of this med, so I talked to my doctor about it and he said to go off of it and see. He said it should be out of my system in about 3 days. Three days did not make a difference, so I thought it was anxiety. I started taking 1/2 Xanax in the morning and 1/2 at noon, and by noon the numbness and tingling would be starting again.

Now, I think it is the meds. I am trying to find an herbal alternative, but there are so many listed that I don't know which would really work and I can't find a doctor in this area that specializes in herbs. The Xanax is starting not to work as well as it did. Today, I took 1/2 of the bp medicine and felt better than in a long time, but it could be in my imagination.

I started taking Toprol XL on Wednesday 11-14. I had been admitted to the cardiac unit after having to be given 2 nitro pills and also a nitro patch to get my chest pain to go away and my blood pressure to come down.

That evening my cardiologist put me on 50mg of Toporol XL. I have had a headache pretty much since that night, that just won't go away. I had an anxiety attack last night that left he crying for no reason pretty much all night long, I have not slept well since the night they put me on it, I have been sick at my stomach since that night, I have been dizzy and not feeling like myself since that night, and I also continue to have a feeling of something being wrong, even though all the bllod work and the stress test came back good.

They told me that my problem was stress related and for the next 2 weeks am to try and remain stress free. But everytime I take the medicine I continue to feel worse with these same symptoms.

Since my doctor has upped my lisinopril to 40mg, I have been having rapid heart beats at night and dizziness. I am also on Atenolol. So these medicines interact with each other? I went of norvasc a month ago because I was so dizzy when I laid to sleep and when I sat. I have had so many tests to figure out why my heart races at times. Let me know if these medicines interact with each other or are these symptoms. thanks

I have a Mitrol Valve Prolapse. It's very pronounced. I've been on all kinds of meds for it since I was 20 years old and I'm now 50. I was on Lopressor last, but it started to not have much of an affect so they put me on Topral XL 50 mg a day. Since being on it I've been very very tired, more so than usual, but I'm stubborn and push myself. Now I've gotten sever joint pain in my neck, fingers, knees, toes etc. It's awful. I was on the internet looking up the symptoms of lupus and MS; that's how badly I feel. I went to my family physican thinking I surely had to have Rumatoid Arthritis, like my Mom and Grandmother. The test came back normal, no sign of that. I've gained 20 pounds and I've been dieting and exercising the best I can with no avail. I went to look up side effects of Toprol and found this site. Can anyone tell me of a better drug to control palpations and irregular heart beats from MVP? I'd really appreciate discussing a new med with my heart dr. and trying it. I need to get off of this stuff.

I dont know what to think about this drug. I am supposed to take 1/2 pill everyday for blood pressure control....along with a beta blocker called lopressor. This medicine makes my head hurt I think. I stand up and I get a head rush that causes a temporary headaconly last a few moments then it goes away. I am going to not take it for a week and see what happens.
Will let ya know.

I have read most of these complaints and I am wondering if Lisinopril is causing some problems I have been having. I am a 49 year-old female, and I suffered a heart attack in May of this year (2005.) I had heart bypass surgery(5 bypasses) and have also had to have a stint. I am diabetic and on insulin for blood sugar control. High blood pressure runs in the women in my family and I have had essential hypertension for years. I have been on Lisinopril since May. Lately, I have been suffering from frontal headaches, severe dizziness and nausea. I get so tired I have to lay down and my legs feel like lead weights. Last couple weeks I have had lower back pain. I feel terrible. I get nauseated, like motion sickness when I get on the computer and when I ride in a car. I've never had that in my life. I feel my symptoms are related to one of the meds I take. I feel sure it's not the ones I took before my heart attack since I had no problems with them ( plavix and aspirin.) I have also taken Lopressor years ago and didn't have these side effects from that. I am taking Lopressor and Lisinopril for blood pressure. I am going to call the doc in the morning because something is making me really sick and I can't even function. I've had to stop my cardiac rehab class, I'm lucky to even ride in a car lately.

I was diagnosed with angina two weeks ago..I was put on Lisinopril and Lopressor..After ONE week I cannot STOP coughing..it is so bad I now have an earache and pain in the back of my head and neck. I took a nitro pill and it did not help which rules out an angina attack..Doctor on called tonite told me to STOP the lisinopril which is most likely causing this cough. I've been up two nites from coughing. I am so tired. I can't sleep...I am in so much pain...how can I ever tell if I'm having an angina attack or heart attack. I will be seeing a cardiologist next week to discuss treatment......what's up with this medication????????

disturbing dreams, difficulty waking, exhaustion, short term memory loss, confusion, aching joints, swollen knee, muscle cramping, difficulty concentrating. Switched to Lopressor which helped a little but am still having the problems with nightmares, sleep disturbances and mental fogginess. Doesn't seem to be as bad as with the Toprol XL, though.
