I was prescribed Bactrim for a sinus infection. Cleared infection well but on day 2 started to feel very nauseated and VERY COLD although no fever. Strange dreams and sleeplessness. Day 3 loss of appetite and more nausea chills, (no vomiting) Day 5 wound up in Emergency room with fever, dizziness, , panic, paranoia, disorientation, pain in right side. ER took blood and my liver enzymes were elevated. They too said it was a virus...NO Way is this a virus...I have had a very bad reaction to the Bactrim. They said if it was a reaction, it would clear in a few days. I am taking milk thistle extract for liver...I had blood taken two weeks ago and liver enzymes were much lower....they had doubled on bactrim. BEWARE OF THIS Drug...(I took it when I was younger with no troubles too. Dont drink on it either (I did and this maybe why I had such a bad reaction. ) Gave me zofran for nausea. I am drinking LOTS of water to flush.

i started taking it in January, for mild acne. Initially it worked wonders on my face, but eventually like three months ago I started feeling extremely depressed. I was not happy with myself and appearance, which ultimately lead to having a problem with eating. Every time I get near food my stomach cringes and I get nausea. I just got off the pill but was wondering if anyone has ever experienced this feeling. Beside my loss of appetite, I have secluded myself and have become more and more depressed. I thought it would get better but it hasn't. It has just made everything worse and more complicated. It has affected relationships with friends and family. Has anyone else felt the same way?

Had my Mirena put in about 4 weeks ago. I feel like I am sick ALL the time. I have had every symptom mentioned and then some. Severe nausea, indigestion, headaches, fatigue, mood swings, hot flashes, depression, lack of sex drive, achiness, dizziness, anxiety, loss of appetite, and excessive sweating and hot flashes. My husband also says it irritates him when we have sex. I did a good bit of research before getting the Mirena, and never realized any of these side effects could happen. The Mirena website doesn't mention any of these other than headache. The doctor made it sound wonderful, and I just never thought I would feel like this. I almost feel like I am pregnant again, but I know I am not. It is horrible! I have an appointment in 4 days for my Mirena check up, and I am going to have it removed then. Please do your research before getting the Mirena! I am glad I found this site. Now I realize I am not the only one.

My daughter is about to turn 5, she was prescribed SMZ-TMP a few days ago in order to prevent another ear infection.
She has been having terrible diarrhea, which is obviously normal, but along with that she started vomiting, she is now vomiting every time after taking the medication. She has a loss of appetite and has barely ate anything in the past 3 days! The poor thing has been battling diarrhea while throwing up at the same time along with terrible stomach pain/cramps. I am calling the doctor first thing tomorrow morning to discuss discontinuation of medication etc.

I am on day 9 of Topamax. I have Depression and ADD the is controlled by 300 mg of Wellbutrin and 30 mg of Adderall daily. I always felt like this drug regimen was working but I was still having some days where I couldn't shake the blues. I saw my prescribing doc and he suggested Topamax. He started me on 25 mg and in a few days I will increase to 50 mg where it will stay if things go well. I am a 34 y/o woman, married and a preschool teacher.
So far, my side effects have been EXTREME thirst. It's so bad that my lips are actually a little chapped. As far as taste goes, things don't necessarily taste bad to me as much as I just don't have an appetite at all. I have lost 5 pounds in 9 days! However, all soda tastes flat to me. I have tried everything and it's all just flat. In the grand scheme of things, who NEEDS soda? My husband says that I have been a little sensitive lately but, I have always been an overly-sensitive person so, I don't know how much faith I put into that. But, as far as my cognitive abilities, balance issues, and energy? I feel more energetic than usual and I don't feel at a loss for words at all. I also feel even more patient with the children in my classroom. Oh, I have been nauseous off and on as well, which contributes to my loss of appetite.
Now, my dosage will increase in 5 days from 25 mg to 50 mg and I hope that I don't feel different after that increase. When and if I do, I will be right back here posting. I would like to thank those that have posted. It has given me so many good things to look for and has put my mind at ease a little. Good luck to all and best of health!

Loss of appetite and change in taste. I haven't eaten a meal since about 26th March 2009. I have a sweet, sickly taste and I can only eat cornflakes or crisps. Cups of tea don't taste like tea and I try and taste different foods each day but still can't eat anything other than cornflakes and crisps.
They have ruined my life and I have been told it could take 12/18 months so I have another 12 months to go. I don't think I can do it!!.
I would love to hear from people who have had this problem.

I've got to say that Mirena makes my hair very thick, and I have lost weight, not gained it...and I LOVE not having periods.
I have had mood swings, irritability, and stomach issues since having it installed in July'07 but no other problems what so ever, until a few months ago...ever since May'09 I have had nausea, extreme loss of appetite, and breakouts(very out of character for me). My husband had a vasectomy in May, and I plan on getting the Mirena removed next month. The ongoing irritability is definitely the biggest problem for me...it makes me very short tempered with my children.
I don't know why the new symptoms started a few months ago...maybe some kind of hormonal buildup...I am very sensitive to birth control usually, and Mirena has served its purpose well, but now I am ready to move on.
I think Mirena is like any birth control, it works well for some people and not at all well for others. I do not think it is awful, or terrible or anything like that...it just has to be the right fit, and all drugs have side effects. Good luck ladies!!

I was about 1 month in to my 3 month cycle of taking doxycycline for blepharitis issues when I started having symptoms. It started on a friday night with extreme indigestion. There was a lot of pain in my chest and also into my arm. I was belching and very uncomfortable. Next day I woke up and only had the pain in my arm, belching and pain in my left abdomen under my rib cage.
I thought it was just really bad indigestion from something I ate so I continued with the medicine. Within a few days time I deteriorated more and more. The pain in my abdomen had spread from just being on the left to being left, center and right. I also got random pains all over my body it seemed. This seemed to come and go throughout the day. My vision would blur, I had extreme anxiety and also depression, my arm remained weak and then my legs got weak as well. The fatigue was overwhelming. I'm usually an insomniac who struggles to fall asleep by 1:30. I began to struggle to stay awake until 11. The lymph node in my neck also enlarged, and I began to experience a loss of appetite. I have currently lost 5 pounds in one week. I also always feel dehydrated and in a fog. I went to an urgent care clinic and the doctor really just thought I was crazy from what I could tell.
I stopped taking doxycycline about 5 days ago and the fatigue is slowly letting go(very slowly). The blurred vision has cleared up a bit but still comes and goes. My mood is still very down and I can't help to still feel anxious and can't stop wondering if I have some deadly disease process going on. The heartburn and abdomen pains are also subsiding slowly(I feel a little better each day).
I'm glad I found this website. It's helped me not freak out as much about my symptoms(although I still have my moments). Since I started feeling bad I've convinced myself that I have heart attack symptoms, pulmonary embolism symptoms, symptoms of AIDS and symptoms of lymphoma. It's still hard to not feel like doomsday is upon me but reading that many of you have had similar feelings and side effects makes me feel a little better.
I just hope this clears up soon because I think as long as I feel pain, tired or anything off I will be anxious about it. I have fear of ending up on Mystery Diagnosis lol.

I have just taken my sixth and FINAL Lupron shot. I was unaware of many of the side effects, like IBS. I am a lot different than most women. I was born with a birth defect called cloacal exstrophy. I am 41 years old and have lived my life with no bladder or rectum, due to extreme reconstructive surgery at birth. I have a permanent Colostomy and urinary diversion (ileal conduit). I do not have a very large amount of intestine, which creates an absorption problem of certain things, one of them being Calcium. I have also had severe orthopedic reconstruction since birth.
In December of 2008 they found a mass on the right side of my abdomen along with a hydrosalpinx. The hydrosalpinx was drained and I was then urged to start a 6 month cycle of monthly Lupron shots. There is a long history of endo in my maternal family. I have been advised that because of existing scar tissue from so many past surgeries a hysterectomy was not possible. I can not even have a laproscopy to determine that the growth is actually endo.
3 months into the shots I started to suffer extreme diarrhea, lasting from 1 to 3 weeks at a time post the Lupron shot...it was blamed on overgrowth from past surgeries, etc. It has become a terrifying experience for me. Due to my inability to absorb calcium well I now have several calcium kidney stones that must be broken apart with a laser. I have no idea what will happen with the GI symptoms or if they will continue once the Lupron "wears off".
I have no concerns about fertility, since having children has NEVER been an option for me. My concerns are surviving my life longer without additional risk to it from taking this drug.
I have had the usual symptoms of sweating, night sweats, fatigue, Hair loss, loss of appetite and occasional insomnia. Again, the most concerning to me are the kidney stones and GI problems I have been experiencing, including "sludge" in my gallbladder.
I am severely disheartened by the lack of looking at the whole picture, at least midway through this treatment. This is compounded by the fact that my treatment stems from one of the country's "top 10 Hospitals", which is a direct affiliate of the Children's hospital that did an AMAZING job of successful reconstruction in 1968. It is 2009 and I have fewer options to improve this situation than I did the issues from the original reconstruction in 1968.
I feel I never should have been put on this medication and am deeply concerned about my survival from here. If I could go back 6 months, as informed as I am now.....this IS NOT the path I would have chosen. I no longer know which Doctor to trust, what decision is best for me or how much more I can take.
If there are any AMAZING Dr.s reading this, please feel free to contact me...I am desperate, I do not feel that this should affect my survival rate and am willing to listen to alternative solutions IN THEIR ENTIRETY.
Anyone with a shortened GI tract, absorption issues, or previous health conditions should WEIGH ALL OPTIONS and do AS MUCH RESEARCH AS POSSIBLE before agreeing to this treatment. I placed trust and confidence first, not one of my better decisions concerning my health. I will not continue treatment with Lupron.

I was on Prednisone 10 mg. per day for sinus inflammation which helped with that but gave me some bad side effects such as: loss of appetite, fast heartbeat and the worst being nervousness, anxiety, and nausea. I got rid of my pain but the side effects, ugghh!! I am not going to take it anymore. There are other things to take for inflammation.

Hello,
I've tried a bunch of different brands and types of BC's in the past, and none ever worked well with me... then i started Yasmin. It worked wonders. helped my acne, cramps, length of my period etc... i was on it for about 1 year. i stopped BC and had my son (Nov 18 09) .. my doc told me to get back on the pill about 2 months after my son was born and i have been on it since.. lately I've been noticing that I'm not me anymore... i can't remember the last time I've felt like myself.. depression, lack of motivation, hopelessness, i get irritated over the stupidest things, LOW sex drive, LIKE NONE AT ALL, lack of confidence, loss of appetite, loss of hair ongoing 9 months after birth and getting worse, bad menstrual cramps, bad acne, dark colored urine, strange vaginal discharge before my period, longer periods, migraines, mood swings, irrational thoughts and outburst, dizzy spells, blurred (black) vision upon standing, seeing spots and light headed, etc... i attributed all of this to postpartum hormonal imbalance, stress, etc... but I'm now considering the fact that maybe Yasmin is doing this to my body... so i will stop the pill or switch it, my next appointment is only in a month so no sex till then, but yet again my libido is completely gone so that will be no problem... (ahh my POOR BF) lol
all this to say that if it was postpartum depression, my son wouldn't be the only reason i get up in the morning, i wouldn't get up at all...
i know that this isn't postpartum depression... I'm positive that it's Yasmin causing all this i know at least that some of it is..
What i don't understand is that we all have a bunch of docs that ignore us and our bodies.. this isn't only happening to on person this is a lot of people who have had similar and sever reactions to this pill, it should really be taken off the market, or at least doctors should warn us about the "other" side effects...
anyways I'm DONE with this pill and will tell all my friends.
it at least feels good to get this off my chest... it's hard to talk about this stuff to people who are close to you...
All this sounds crazy but makes sense at the same time...
thank god i found this site!

Thank god I found this site! My body has been going crazy ever since I started taking Yasmin two years ago and I didn't put two and two together until reading all of these postings and realizing the Yasmin might be the culprit.
I'm a healthy 31 y.o. who exercises regularly, doesn't smoke and has been on various oral contraceptives for the last decade without too many side effects beyond slight moodiness and minor weight gain. About two years ago I switched over to Yasmin. About two months ago I came across this site as I was researching hypertension which I had developed. I was confused and didn’t know what was causing it as I am healthy, unstressed and have a history of low blood pressure. But as soon as I found this site it all started coming together and I realized Yasmin had done much more than raise my blood pressure. I immediately went off the pill and almost right away many of my side effects went away. Here's what I've experienced since being on the pill:
-Weight Gain: Almost right away I gained ten pounds. I’ve effortlessly lost five of those pounds since going off the pill.
-Seborrheic Dermatitis: After a few months of being on Yasmin I developed a painful scalp condition called Seborrheic Dermatitis. Side effects of this are inflamed scalp, redness and most importantly, hair loss. The doctor said it is generally brought on by stress but on further research I saw that it is also caused by hormones, so it wasn’t a stretch for me to realize Yasmin might be the culprit once I saw this site. Over the last couple years I’ve been using all sorts of prescription shampoos to make the problem go away and nothing helped. But as soon as I went off the pill my scalp condition cleared in only a month without the use of shampoos.
-High Blood Pressure: Before I went on the pill my BP was about 100/70. During the time I took Yasmin my BP slowly climbed to above 140/90. Within two weeks of going off the pill my BP was back down to pre-Yasmin levels.
-Irregular Heart Beat: After about a year and a half of being on the pill I started to suffer from seriously irregular heart beat which went away immediately after I got off Yasmin.
-Hyperpigmentation: I know any birth control can cause this but none of them ever have until I went on Yasmin at which point it sprung up all over my face. I’m hoping the dermatologist can clear it up now that I’m off the pill.
-Tightness in Chest: Happened around same time as irregular heartbeat and is now gone.
-Anxiety: I’m not sure I can blame Yasmin for this one since going off Yasmin has not caused it to go away. But enough posters on this site mentioned it as a side effect and it wasn’t a problem for me pre-Yasmin, so I wanted to mention it.
-Irritability: I’m generally easy going and don’t let the little things bother me, but as soon as I went on Yasmin everything started to bug me. Now that I’m off Yasmin I’ve been in a much better mood.
If anyone is on this pill or thinking about going on it, I implore you not to. Too many risks especially since there are so many other pills out there that don’t have many side effects. I mean, there are close to 5,000 postings on this site, mostly against this pill while if you search the web there are almost no other pills that generate this kind of attention. That alone tells me something. I hope the makers of the pill pull it from the market immediately or doctors stop recommending it.

Since having mirena put in I have been a total bitch. I have major mood swings which has really put a strain on the relationship with my boyfriend. I have had hair loss, loss of appetite, major cramping on my right side, bad odor, discharge, and no sex drive at all. Intercourse is very painful. I am calling my dr in the morning to have it removed.

I'm at the end of a 10-day cycle of doxycycline (100mg 2xday). Worst side effects: insomnia and restless leg syndrome. I think I'm averaging about 3 hours of sleep a night. Stomach pain, occasional cramps, severe loss of appetite. I've also experienced some of the stranger side effects others have mentioned: mood swings, depression, suicidal thoughts, feeling like I'm in a dream, mental problems (after I write something I realize I've spelled half the words wrong).
Next time my doctor mentions this drug, I'm going to say no way and see if I can get a sulfate based antibiotic or maybe good old amoxicillin.

Have had a horrible reaction to Bactrim. Started with loss of appetite, body aches and headaches within a week of taking Bactrim. Progressed into fever and the chills by a week and a half but just thought I had the flu. After taking Bactrim for 13 days I started breaking out with hives on my face, neck and chest which later spread to my arms and legs. I was diagnosed with an allergic reaction to Bactrim, pumped full of iv fluids, steroids and anti-histamines once they figured out what was going on. I had a fever of 101-102 for over 4 days. I was dehydrated and had a low white blood cell count. I'll be taking oral steroids and anti-histamines for 5-6 days. Such a horrible experience, I'll be glad when I won't be on any more of these medications!

I've been on Aviane for the past couple of weeks. This is my first experience with birth control and I'm 23. So far the only side effects that I have experienced are: slight irritation that went away, sparse small pimples, light spotting, and slight loss of appetite. I'm not complaining about these symptoms in the least. Each woman's body will react differently to each pill she's on. So not every woman will have the same experience with this pill as another may have, as obviously stated by the previous comments. In saying that, I don't think people should read these blogs and either (a) not choose this pill because of somebody else bad experience, or (b) expect these things to NOT occur when you get on a pill because most of the symptoms people are describing are listed in the information pamphlet that comes with the pills and are outlined by your Doctor before you start taking them. If symptoms are that severe, talk to your Doctor. It's not that this pill is "bad" or "no good" it's just not suitable for everyone.

I had mirena inserted about 8 weeks after birth of my first child. First I weighed less then than I do now. I've had a loss of appetite and I exercise, in no way should I weigh what I do, I'm about 40 - 50 lbs overweight on a vegetarian diet. I have been having headaches, everyday, can't sleep, anxiety and depression which has absolutely had its effects on my marriage. The doctor tells me this is all because my body changed after having the baby, but I feel so bloated all the time and I'm actually wanting to have a period. I feel the restraint on my body, this is not normal. I'm having it taken out next week and we are going back to condoms.

I have been taking Wellbutrin XL 300MG for 18 months now. It definitely cured my depression but since last couple of months I noticed my hair falling at an alarming rate. I can now see my scalp in several places. It is discouraging. I am going to lower the dose to 150MG and then stop after some time.

I have been taking 25mg per day of Lamictal for five days now. I am also on (and have been for five years) 200mg Zoloft per day. I was recently diagnosed bipolar (no surprise) and after seeing a psychiatrist, this was the med I chose, Lithium and Depakote being the other two choices, I felt that Lamictal would be the most appropriate in my case, because it is supposed to help with anger/rage issues, according to the leaflet provided by my Dr., as well as the 'rapid cycling' of my moods. So far I dislike this med, despite the fact I started it with optimism. Side effects are as follows:
Sleepiness - started the first day, I took the first dose the night before.
Lack of energy/motivation - I was doing ok as far as motivation was concerned until I started Lamictal, I was on a positive mood swing at the time, now, it's taking all my effort to stay focused and finish this.
Feelings of disassociation - I don't want to go anywhere, or see anyone, take any calls, etc..this is a problem I have had prior to Lamictal, but it suddenly got worse upon starting it.
Sudden anger/rage - I have felt overly aggravated at times, fast to discipline my son without taking a minute to think it over, it's pretty spontaneous. Day two scared me a bit, I have been making a serious conscious effort to not lose my temper or react suddenly. Today I actually had a spontaneous thought of suicide during a moment of anger, which also alarms me.
Loss of appetite - I'm a skinny guy, can't afford to lose any weight or go without eating, this stuff has pretty much killed my appetite, I'm forcing myself to eat at least once a day...and it isn't easy, I tell you.
Hypersensitivity to noise - Seems like the volume on everything has been amplified, it's making me nuts..
Unpleasant taste in my mouth - since day two. Hard to describe, sort of metallic.
Decreased urge to smoke - I have been smoking for 23 years, a pack per day regularly. I noticed at day two the urge to smoke was dramatically decreased, I smoked about eight cigs total today. Being asleep helped with that too, I'm sure...gotta be conscious to smoke, right? This would be the only positive effect I have noticed thus far.
At this point, I'm really not sure if I will continue with this med due to the above effects. I am a bit disappointed because I had hoped this would do the job and I could avoid the Lithium (icepick up the nose is the only thing left if Lithium doesn't work) and the Depakote, because the effects of those are far more serious by comparison according to what I have read and heard from others who have taken it.
I don't know what to do next, honestly. I have taken nearly every type/kind of antidepressant, Zoloft seems to do the most good, but I'm still having mood swings/cycling while using it, so a mood stabilizer was the plan to fix that...seems like I'm pretty much hosed.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago and have found the source of my comments. It is in Peter D'Adamo's book "Eat Right For Your Blood Type". The reason I found this interesting is because my dad had a terrible reaction to Levaquin and was curious about his blood type after reading that AB and B blood types should avoid fluoroquinolones. Dad passed away in March, but ascertained his blood type from mom's, mine, and brother. I am O, brother AB, and mom type A. Dad, therefore had to be B. Food for thought.
Dad had ulnar nerve damage, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, insomnia, pain in calves and shoulders, etc. Succumbed suddenly from rare b-cell lymphoma in lungs, which just appeared out of nowhere while in hospital for Levaquin reaction. Mom unfortunately took Levaquin last month. Then suddenly is now dying from Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. Is this all a coincidence? Is this stuff fertilizer for cancer?

I recently had been prescribed macrobid for a uti I developed a cough after 4 doses that really hurt. After finishing the course of it I came down with the flu ( cough fever, body aches, etc.) and a rash all over my legs and arms of tiny bumps that itched. 2 weeks later I was given macrobid as a preventative measure by urologist to take for 30 days. I took the 1st dose before I went to bed at about 11:30 pm. the next day by 10am i couldn't finish my morning oatmeal due to sudden loss of appetite and nausea. Then I noticed I was starting to get body aches and my temp was elevating by noon. I took some aleve. By 2:30pm my I had a terrible cough that hurt my chest and my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. Since I work for my PCP I told him about the symptoms and that I thought it was related to the macrobid and that this was listed as some of the side effects he checked my pulse and it was 133. I went home sick and he called to check on me around 6p.m. by then I was much worse my fever went up and I was coughing to the point that I was short of breath. I had headache dizziness, lightheaded and my whole body ached. and i was so hoarse I could barely talk and had what felt like a bruise on my left hip. He told me if I didn't start to feel better or got worse I should go to the E.R. I woke up at 10pm feeling worse and my heart rate was 120 after waking up from sleep. Went to the E.R. and my pulse was 142. they totally disregarded the fact that I told them this was side effects of the macrobid and they told me that could not be. That night I was diagnosed with bronchitis and uti. I was perfectly fine the day I took this med. I have never had bronchitis before. And my urologist had checked my urine 2 days before and said it was fine. i wasnt even having uti symptoms this was supposed to be preventative med. My PCP says he had his doubts but after looking at the side effects of this med in his MPR, I had almost every one that was listed. I will never take this med again. Antibiotics are supposed to help, not cause infections this should be taken off the market.
