I was on the nuvaring for about 3 or 4 months. My best friend decided to try it too since I started it. On top of that we both made drastic changes in our love life, hers an engagement, mine a new beau :). I started the ring about two weeks of dating him, and then realized I could not stand him, for him to touch me made my skin crawl, but I knew that I really like him and wanted the relationship to work (yeah, crazy I know). I would yell and scream, I did not want to be intimate in any shape or form. It was very hard for this new relationship to grow, and I was thinking it was him. My girlfriend was going nuts with her fiance, everything he did or did not do set her off. We thought it was the "bridezilla" in her coming out. We went on a few months thinking the changes was due to our new stuatus. I asked a friend from school if she ever tried nuva ring, and she said "yes that thing made me crazy, my boyfriend almost left me twice." Well two days later I took out my ring to see if it would make a difference, and within 24 hours things were better (sun was shining, birds were singing), I told my girlfriend about it and she tried taking hers out to see if it changed within 2 days she was a brand new girl on her way to a being a blissful bride to be.
All of this to say, if you are not sure if it is the ring try abstaining for a month, take the ring out, and see if you see a difference, for those of you that can't abstain, make sure to take other precautions like condoms or plan b.
P.S. my friend and I kid around about how there is going to be an episode of SNAPPED, based off a woman on the ring.

ok ive been on lisinopril for about 4 months. the cough is annoying and its not all that bad but the thing I notice most is the constipation, and its causes one more side effect that most men are afraid to talk about and thats erectile dysfunction. The doctor told me this would improve after ive been on my meds for a bit but after 4 months the ED has gotten worse. I forgot to take my meds for a couple of days and for the first time since taking this stuff things are improving. Im 39 yrs old and am in ok shape but not bad. I have a physical job and am fairly active. The ED, reduced sex drive, cough and cramping of the right calf after 4 months ?????? If I stay on this what next? Anyone else have any ED problems with this drug???.

I have been on YAZ for over 2 years now. The previous bc that I have used in the past were Ortho tri cyclin which was awful, I was close to severe, obvious depression and Yasmin in which I was fine with. For the first couple of months on YAZ I was extremely emotional. However, I felt as though my hormones regulated and was fine with the drug I'd say until the past year. This entire time I have been wondering why I have been...
1.) Hot flashes in my sleep (I'm 26).
2.) Always tired. ALWAYS.
3.) Lost my sex drive.
4.) Experiencing horrible headaches.
5.) Most upsetting to me, lack of interest in life, nothing makes me happy or excited.
6.) Knee and neck joint pain.
Normally I am easily excited and love life with no lack of energy.
I am happy to see that I am not the only one experiencing all of these symptoms. I have been wondering if this is linked to my bc and if I would be better off stopping.
My doctor on the other hand has told me, the past two times I've questioned her, I don't think you should stop your bc just keep on and see if it changes. Thanks for nothing doc.
Thanks to all of you I know I'm not falling apart.

My experience with NuvaRing
I started NuvaRing when I was 40 years old and got married not to long ago. I have two kids and they are in there late teens. My new husband does not want to have any kids, so I've been on NuvaRing for two years because I was always really bad about remembering to take the pill so the NuvaRing is GREAT for me and I love it!!! It's very convenient, being able to just forget about birth control for a month. But for some reason I think that I got a hold of a bad batch and I am having problem with them. If you have experienced the following symptoms, please consult with your doctor:
Depression: because I thought that I was pregnant, so I hit an extreme low.
The first time I used the ring I had itching, discharge, burning and yeast infection.
Headaches, Mood swings, bloating, gas, cramps, emotional, pelvis pain, hair loss, my vision has change, constant fatigue and lack of motivation and I have gained about 20 pounds. I get headaches all the time. I'm CONSTANTLY tired, but I do have to get up to go to work. My experience the first time using the ring was an infections and burning and it went away after the second time I used it. I didn’t know the ring was the cause of the infections it until now. After two years I have been passing blood clots and bleeding know for three weeks, I even thought that I was pregnent and I lost the baby and for three days and I was very diprest, afraid that I really miscarried a baby and on Friday I took a pregnancy test and it came negative. I made an appointment with my OB/GYM doctor and he also did a pregnancy test and it came negative and we didn’t know the reason why I was bleeding for so long and he also gave me medicine to stop the bleeding and also gave me iron pill for my anemic, since I lost so much blood. He told me he would do some test and find out why I am bleeding so much, so he did other test and schedule a Tran’s vaginal ultra sound sonogram test. The doctor found out that I have 3 fibroids in the uterus and the doctor suggested having D/C uterine scraping, so that I don’t get any cancer in my uterus. I talk with my husband and also decided to do a hysterectomy. Surgery went well, I am still here. I schedule the surgery on a Friday and back to work on Monday. Now I am concentrating on getting better and try to loose the weight. NOTE: I have read that soo many of you have problems in the libido or sex drive. I never had a problem in that department. I meet a great man and we both love having sex, before I started the NuvaRing and during using the ring and after the operation have not lost the edge of having sex two to three times a day. I think many of just don’t find the time, too busy with work or busy with the kids, lost that loving feeling. I am too in love and love doing it.
I hope this was helpful.

I got my Mirena inserted a few months ago, and first off, the insertion was NOT what my ob-gyn said it would be. I've never had a child, but she told me just to pop a few Advil about an hour prior to insertion and it would be no big deal; it was by far the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. I was sore for a good two weeks. I woke up this morning with mind numbingly bad cramps, and could only lay there twisted in pain while my husband brought me warm towels and a heating pad until the pain subsided. My sex drive has increased to nothing, and I'm 25 and just got married in December! I love my husband and want to get back to our love life. It hurts to be repulsed by the thought of sex. I want this thing out. I'll go back to pills or whatever, just enough already. Don't let your doctors tell you it won't hurt to put it in, or that it has virtually no side effects. Really do your research before you have them put it in.

Well....i haven't had the Mirena for 6 months yet, but...i know something isnt right with my body. Nausea all the time....im not on my period..or am I?? I mean..i had my cycle but now i just spot really light pink...and i cramp throughout the day. I HATE it! I know its from the Mirena...I too have experienced discharge with an "odor"...i was like oh, uh uh! I really thought something was wrong with me. I feel this horrible sharp pain shooting down my leg...im just really uncomfortable. Headaches..Sometimes the pain is bad enough for me to think that the Mirena is out of place..but later on, i'll feel fine. Im sick and tired of the up and down. Im with you ladies...i want my life and my body back!

My girl has been using the NuvaRing for a month now. Each time i use it i get irritation and redness and chafing and even some bleeding in a circle around my penis just under the head. I noticed that the placement of the ring in her vagina was such that i make contact with it in the exact places that are these cuts. After sex there is pink and reddish swelling and some small bleeding and much pain.
Is this a reaction to NuvaRing or something else? Anyone else have similar problems?

The first time I went on Wellbutrin, I had a really bad reaction to it. I had insomnia, horrible tremors, apathy, I felt like I was walking around in a cloud. I went on to try other medications. Now I'm taking a combination of Prozac and Wellbutrin and it seems to be working. My depression is under control. I don't have the apathy or zombie feeling anymore, but I do still have the tremors, though they aren't as bad. I get some mild insomnia, but taking it in the morning helped with that, and lately I've found that a little bit of coffee in the morning (not too much, don't need to be MORE shaky) helps with a lot of my side effects. I do have the confusion and concentration issues too. It hasn't caused any severe problems, it only seems to really happen in casual conversation, where I'll completely forget what I wanted to say. It's annoying, but way better than depression, and not severe enough for me to stop.
To those people who are telling others to stay away from this drug, or any drug for that matter, don't forget that there is a reason there are so many different kinds of anti-depressants. Everybody's body chemistry is different, so their gonna react in different ways. Also, the people who don't have issues with side effects rarely go looking for sites like this....
Just something to think about.

Well here's yet another unsatisfied customer. I am so relieved to see I'm not alone but so angry and my doctors for not doing some simple research like this on behalf of their patients, so I could've been more adequately warned about the side effects of this product on some women. Basically, if you are sensitive to hormonal changes, which I am, then this product will really mess with your body. These hormonal changes can affect, among other things, changes in the ph level of your vagina which can lead to both bacterial and fungal vaginitis. Did anyone tell you that? Have you had more of those infections while on this and think you were crazy? You weren't. Symptoms of a bacterial infection include a thin, watery discharge and a fishy smell. Did you think you smelled different while on this but figured there's no way there could be a connection to Mirena? There is. Looking back now, how could I have trusted a pamphlet from the maker of the product? Obviously they want you to buy it. That was my stupidity. But how could my doctor trust the pamphlet? Why do they assume the hormone level is too small to make an impact when there are thousands of women having them removed and citing the exact same reactions. Demand that you be taken seriously as a women and a patient. Do not be bullied nor belittled by your doctor into thinking you must be wrong and a corporate drug company is right. Get it out.

It kind of feels good to read these posts because now i know it's not just me. i started birth control when i was 18 years old. i started out taking lutera. i don't really remember having many side effects. after maybe a year of being on lutera my doctor switched me to loestrin 24 to give me lighter and shorter periods. well, the pill really took it's toll on me. my mood swings have been so bad my boyfriend and i fight constantly, i have been so emotional crying over every little thing. and my sex drive? it is GONE! like non existent. when my boyfriend wants to have se i just can't really get in the mood, and I'm really dry down there. it just hasn't been fun. it's really taken a toll on my body and my love life. i finally just went back to my doctor and told him to switch me back to lutera. i was on loestrin for a full year! so for me it wasn't just the first couple months your body goes crazy because of new hormones, it just wasn't worth it to me. there were so many months that went by and i didn't get my period. i was constantly going out buying pregnancy tests to make sure i wasn't pregnant. I'm 21 now, i don't need to freak out every month thinking I'm pregnant. and then there were months when i had my period for a week sometimes two! and i had spotting like you wouldn't believe. i had to throw out a lot of underwear because of those little surprise visits in the middle of the month. i know birth control effects everyone differently but i just wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

I was diagnosed with Dysthmia in April 07 and the doc prescribed Seroquel (25mg) and Topamax (25mg) I took them for about a week and felt spacey, like I was floating or something. I was scared to drive to work for fear that I would zone out and get in a car accident. So I stopped taking both after a week. Then I started again with both meds (same dosages) this Oct. I'm still on them and haven't experienced any weight gain. If anything, I'm losing weight...but since weight loss is a side effect of Topamax, it's probably countering the appetite gain effects of the Seroquel. My sex life is completely gone. I'm becoming emotionless and I feel like a zombie. Even on 25 mg I fall asleep within 25-30 minutes of taking the Seroquel. I'm so drowsy in the morning and it takes me a long time to get moving in the morning. I am always tired and seem to be fatigued most of the time. Once in awhile I have extreme energy bursts. My mood is more stable, but I plan to begin weaning myself off soon because I want my love life back. Also I have frequent muscle pains on the side of my stomach. Not sure where its coming from...I feel like I've been beat up.

Horrible!! Awful!!! I've only take the second shot and just recently learned that it's been ruining my life. No one told me about its side effects. I had to find out on my own after months of thinking I was going crazy. Job performance plummeted, heartbreaking problems with my otherwise wonderful love life, loss of friends and desire to even communicate with anyone. Severe depression (including suicidal thoughts), horrible moods swings, loss of hair, headaches, constant bleeding, and worst of all this feeling of doom that horrible things are going to happen to me. I wish I had been forewarned. I was just told that the shot was a great contraceptive. Now I feel like I can't trust anyone.

My Dr. Prescribed Topamax for anxiety. I've tried all the other anxiety meds and nothing seemed to work. This one worked great for the anxiety. But the side effects are getting to me. I can take the tingling hands and feet. That actually happened it seemed non stop at first, but went away after about three months. The main problem I've had is the weight loss. I was at a good weight to begin with, 5'6" 130lbs. but after four months I'm down to 105lbs. I can't gain any weight no matter how hard I try because I'm constantly Nauseous. When I do get my appetite, I can only eat a quarter of what I used to before I get nauseous again. I also have found myself at a loss of words A LOT!!!!!! So, tomorrow I'm going to see if there's something else my Dr. can think of for me to try. I was on Effexor which was good for anxiety, but the sexual side affects were terrible.... Gosh, what do I have to go through for a good love life??? lol

I just got off Advair after being on it for 2 years.
Upon my perscription, I was told there are "zero side effects". (That is probably true of every drug upon its initial release.)
I didn't take note of my side effects for the most part - wt. gain, acne, depression - writing them off on my transitioning to college. I also noticed that my hair was thinning. I had almost two years of not being able to control my skin. I tried three different dermatologists, but nothing would clear up my acne, especially on my forehead. I was about to start Accutane, and upon studying its (horrifying) side effects, my curiosity led me to research Advair as well. This is when the pieces of the puzzle came together.
Testimony after testimony described my exact condition.
I immediatedly stopped taking Advair. A week later I had lost 10 pounds due to a decrease in appetite, my hair began to thicken back up, my skin was glowing, and I was distinctly happier in general. I felt and still feel like a new person. I love life more, cry much less, and repeat that I am much happier, and no longer depressed. The first week I had some difficulty breathing, but was so elated to have my skin, hair, figure, and mental state back that I didn't care in the least.
I regret wasting so much time on Advair. I wish only that the drug get the reputation that it deserves.

I was put on Effexor xr 75mg for depression, didnt help much, doctor upped my dose to 150mg per day & all I can say is it has saved my life, I think I must have been depressed my whole life cause I feel so great on this drug, the only side effects I have noticed are that I sweat alot & am generally hotter than everyone around me (but who cares, small price), and I also bruise very easily, but if you gave me a choice between these and the complete state of mental breakdown I was in before this drug, I know I would choose Effexor every time, to all those who swear against this drug I say to you, don't frighten others off it cause everybody is different and I am sure there are plenty of people out there who have been helped dramatically like me, I wake up every day now & love life, love my husband & my baby & I thank my god for this second chance. Sure I will probably go through withdrawal symptoms when I feel ready to come off this drug, but I am just so grateful now for how I feel, & that I live in a country(Australia) where I have access to such wonderful medical care, imagine the depression experienced by those living in third world countries, where they cant just slip down to the pharmacy & pick up their perscription of Effexor , I am sorry for those of you who have not been well matched to this drug, may you all find the peace of mind that I have, but Dont bag Effexor just cause it wasn't right for you.

This is my less than 24 hour update from yesterday since I had my Mirena removed. I had my yearly appt. yesterday and explained to my dr. all the problems I've been having over the last year. I thought he would try to talk me out of having it removed but he was very sympathetic and removed it without question. So, I'm definitely relieved about having it out. I'm sure it will be a while before I will be able to notice any changes that I can directly relate to the Mirena coming out. But, I can tell you that my husband and I can already tell the difference during intercourse without the Mirena. It is so much more comfortable so, we are very excited about that! I requested Yaz for birth control since I've been on it before and never had these emotional issues while on it. He also gave me a brochure and DVD on the Essure which is the in-office permanent sterilization procedure. So, I'll be doing research on that to see if that will be a good thing for me to do.
-- By austinjake35 | Reply | (4) replies | Private Message meAnother thing, too, during my gyno exam, he found a lump in my left breast. I have never had any problems and definitely no history of any kind of cysts. I'm not blaming the Mirena but all of this is just way too coincidental. Now at 35, I'll be having a mammogram and ultrasound to determine what this lump is. I'm just praying hard that it won't be anything and definitely trying to stay positive. I'm just very relieved to have the Mirena out and I will stay posted as to any additional changes in the future.
