Hello... and I want to thank everyone for thier comments. I am 23 and have been on the nuvaring since my son was born two years ago. Since I have been on it I am tired, irritable, and had no sex drive. Every doctor I went to said that the s/s were from being a busy mom. Over time things have gotten worse I never think about sex EVER (my poor husband). I have been gaining weight in my stomach, butt, and thighs for no reason. For the past 2 months my vagina is completely dry and it was always the opposite. I barely have a period. I freak out on anyone for no given reason, even to hear someone speak. I sleep 24/7 and it is not enough. I am nauseated 24/7 to a point I feel like I am going to vomit. The only plus is I use to be a large A cup and in 2 months am a large C cup. And I am not pregnant.
Sooo...I asked my MD to check my hormones. To find out my Estrogen level is 40. With low estrogen this causes all of these s/s I have been having. Did the nuvaring cause this? Am I going to be able to have anymore children? I am taking this nuvaring out and I never want to see one again!

Hi Everyone i hope you are all getting well x
My name is Mandy i had my coil put in almost just over four years ago following an emergency ectopic pregnancy, i was in hospital for a week (bad times). I was in no fit state to argue with the docs recommendations as this was all new to me, so i let them do what they wanted basically!
I had the "DEMON" removed on Thursday night (1st July 2009) by my own doctor much to her disapproval
After all the years of knowing here she actually didnt really care for me deciding to get it removed! And preceded to lecture me on contraception.I am 40 and have a 20 and 18 year old! and was mad she made a big deal of it considering my loss 4 years previous.
I ended up telling her in my most maddened but calm voice " if you dont take this out now i am either going to kill myself, kill my family or kill you"!
I told her about the thinning hair (which as a point of fact ladies for me is a big thing, not because i am proud of my locks, but because the doctors can poo poo any symptoms they like as hormonal, stress, womans probs, just woman in general!! but all of these woman all having thinning hair hmmmmm bit weird to me!) she did agree the mood swings and weight gain was the coil though.
I am not the same person i was four years ago, despite having a great life, house, hubby, job, kids, i do get the same stress as any other person and want to put the world to rights, but nothing a few friends and a bottle of wine couldn't cure. (pre coil)
If don't know if i will have any friends left!
Today i have some bleeding (i never had heavy flow before thankfully) although i did have major PMT, i expect a crash at somepoint, i am anxious and panicky and actually thought i was having a stroke, but panic will do that, i have low blood pressure ( which is on the up) tingling headaches and all due to removal i hope lol and hormones being all out of whack.
BUT....every time i thing of the little evilness not being inside me anymore i smile and feel great!
It may be for some people but it wasn't for me, now i want the old Mandy back or whatever is left of her, and maybe drop the weight along the way!!
Good luck to you all and make yourself heard xxooxxx
M. :)

UPDATE - Day 11 post removal
Still have not bled.
Still having vertigo migraines.
Still have numbness in R foot.
Still moody/irritable.
Still bloated and GAINING water weight.
Still crying (though not as much).
Still have NO energy.
Still having severe memory issues and BRAIN FOG!!!
NEW ACNE ON ARMS!!! :-(
Taking B12, B6, magnesium, multivitamin.
I'm upset/disappointed. I thought taking it out would make me feel better right away and gradually get better and better. So far I'm the only one on here who didn't bleed right away and start feeling good. Maybe more of the progestin got into my system and it will take a bit longer for it to leave?
NEED ENCOURAGEMENT!

I had my Mirena put in back in June of 2008 right after I got married. I, too, was lead to believe that the effects of the progesterone were purely "localized" to the uterus and would not cause any symptoms at all.
Since then I've experienced SEVERE migraines and dizziness, loss of libido, greasy skin and hair, weight gain (size 6 to size 10/12), numbness/tingling in my feet, crying, irritability, and SEVERE brain fog. For the migraines, I went to a neurologist who wanted to prescribe me topamax and said the only major side effect is cognitive difficulties! HA!!! I already have the worst brain fog, can't remember anything, am tired.... rather..... exhausted all the time, and can't function.
This Mirena surely works well as birth control, seeing as I have NO SEX DRIVE at all! LOL. But seriously, it's great not to have a period, but I knew something was wrong when I was needing medication (antidepressants for the mood swings, provigil for the fatigue, botox nerve injections for the menstrual migraines) for this medication IUD!
Since no OBGYN believes me when I say I think it's the Mirena, I've began to think I was crazy and this was all in my head. So I started on the internet and all my symptoms sounded like MS. So I had thousands of dollars in testing including a full body MRI/MRA. Negative. Had ENT see me for the vertigo. Lots of tests. Negative. Anemic? No. Thyroid? Normal.
HOW MUCH MORE DO WE HAVE TO SPEND ON HEALTH CARE TO FIND OUT WE ARE "FINE" WHEN WE FEEL THE WORST WE'VE EVER FELT???
Then I found this site!!! I think it's the Mirena now! So I want to get it out. But then on the other hand, I feel SO GUILTY that my husband paid $900 for it and I only kept it 1 year. That's expensive birth control! But then again, all the tests, doctor's bills, and feeling lousy cost more! (Not to mention that my doctor cut my strings too short so we can't "check" them each month so to be certain that my IUD is in place he makes me get an ultrasound every 6 months for $250!!!)
My ONLY FEAR is that I will have this out and the symptoms WON'T go away and it was NOT the Mirena after all. Then I will have gone through the pain of putting it in, taking it out, and the cost of "throwing one away" and then what am I supposed to do? I'm 29 but in school and can't get pregnant for a few more years. I don't want to go back on the pill because the mood swings were terrible. But I never had migraines or anything on those, so why is the Mirena causing problems?
Any feedback or encouragement would be helpful right now. I need advise!

I was on NuvaRing for about 3yrs, decreased sex drive, very dry, ruined my sex life, stomach sick only the day after I put the ring back in...but no weight gain and no acne. I asked my dr. for another option with low estrogen because I get very nausea, she put me on Lutera. (the generic for Alesse 28) My sex drive has increased, no dryness at all which is good, but I have been on it for 2 months now and I have noticed a couple of pairs of my jeans don't fit. I eat very healthy and work out 4-5 days a week...so I was trying to think of what I have changed in the last couple of weeks...and the pill it is! Its got to be...my husband is upset because he doesn't want me to go off the pill, but I am so bloated sometimes that it even makes me feel pregnant! (and I have taken tests and I'm not) Does anyone have any advice on IUD? No hormones is prob better, do you feel the IUD during sex? Please help before I gain 10 lbs!!!

I am 35 years old and recently have had a string of ovarian cysts, which did not disappear at the end of my regular menstrual cycle. After three menstrual cycles and continued cysts, my gynecologist recommended I go on birth control to rid myself of the cysts. As I had tried Loestrin in the past and disliked it, she thought I might appreciate a low estrogen solution and not a pill. She recommended the NuvaRing.
I started taking it 7 days ago. By the 4th day, I felt I had a yeast infection. By the 5th day, I was in such pain I could no longer walk. I felt itching inside and out, as well as incredible burning. My vagina is so swollen, I cannot wipe myself with toilet paper or dry myself with a towel after showering. I took it out on the 7th day and almost within 2 hours I felt the burning stop. The following day the swelling started to lessen. I can walk now, but the itching and inflammation may take some more time to go away. It is clear with my sudden improvement that the NuvaRing was the culprit.
If you experience burning, itching and swollen privates- STOP taking it!

I had mirena put in one year ago. During that time I have had extreme back pain ( Feels like someone hit me with a bat in the kidneys) And a Cramping sensation on the right side radiating down my thigh. (It feels like a HOT knife being twisted in my side) I have also experienced hair loss, weigh gain, and no periods but I chalk most of that up to having a baby 13 months ago because they are common side effects to birth for me. Other side effects I have had--- my husband has become allergic to me. He gets a rash from intercourse. I read that one women was have allergenic reactions but has anyones spouse or partner had rashes? (No it is not an STD we all ready went to doctors they said it was a allergy reaction and they said if he can't get better that I may need to remove it)
Now my doctor is telling me that my progesterone and estrogen are low. Too low for a women of 31. Is this also a side effect or am I starting Menopause? I am nursing as well so that can account for the low estrogen but what about the Progesterone

I have been on loestrin for 2 months now. For the past month I have been an emotional wreck, and for the passed week I have had anxiety, heartburn and stomach cramps just below my ribcage. My lower back is killing me and my stomach is spasming. I just took my last birth control pill this morning and start the reminder pills tomorrow. I totally don't feel myself. I haven't got my period since i've been on it. My doctor put me on it because I was bleeding abnormally heavy for me two weeks after my period. I really want to not start a new pack, but i'm nervous that i will bleed heavily again. the anxiety is causing me no to sleep.................I hate this pill

I have been on the nuvaring for about 5 years and I seriously thought it was the best thing ever. I think i just started getting side effects that were bad enough to notice. I kept trying to place them with other reasons like stress. The vaginal dryness, the burning, the itching the spotting and that brown discharge. I have been steadily getting more depressed and anxious, i feel sad constantly and FREAK out on my boyfriend. I also want to sleep, i just feel wore down that could also be contributed to the depression. I did gain about 15 lbs when i first started taking it but have since then lost it. I started when i was 16 and now im 21. My boyfriend thinks i like someone else or im with someone else cause i just don't seem very turned on by him. It sucks. I am very certian switching is a great idea for me, it just sucks cause i can be very unsteady with pills. your not going crazy. ha. i need suggestions on a good pill.

Doing an article on Yasmin, INFO WANTED on Side Effects that occur after you stop taking the pill
Hey okay so I'm doing an article on Yasmin, the side effects that occur when you stop taking the pill, and would like more information on it. I would like to interview ex users of the pills that have experienced either hair loss, lack of period, severe headaches, and just about anything that resulted. I need to write this article ASAP! All experiences are helpful. I too used to be on the pill, and ever since I stopped taking it my cycle has been out of whack. Please contact me either via email gator924@ufl.edu or through AIM: lipsfullbittin or via phone: 786-239-8751.
While most people know some of the side effects of taking the pill, few know the side effects that occur when you stop taking it. It would be a helpful article to any users or future users of the pill, don't you agree?

started it about the same time as thyroid meds. I started getting muscle weekness and joint pains mostly in legs when cold air blew on either. Also during PMS week. I dont know which med it is or if related at all. I am getting a 2nd opinion on somethings and possibly never needed the thyroid med to begin with since my hormone symtums sound and look on labwork more like low estrogen. My thyroid labs were always normal till 6 mo. after begining thyroid med then my labs were hyper. My dr. is clueless so I go somewhere else for this. He showed me how to use Advair wrong. Lucky for the internet I figured it out on my own. I am never going to try two meds together at the same time again cause then you dont know which is causing side effects or helping fatigue.

My experience with Mirena has been great! I previously had extremely heavy periods (we're talking soaking an overnight pad in an hour) and Mirena solved that problem--I have almost no period at all anymore. My five years just came up, and I had it replaced. Any "side effects" I've experienced I have attributed to perimenopause. I'm 42 years old, and early menopause runs in my family, so any minor weight gain around the middle, low libido, headaches, I attribute to that, since my doctor's office has confirmed low estrogen through blood work. I love Mirena and plan on continuing with it!
