I had my Mirena put in nearly 6 weeks ago- and they side effects now seem to be compiling. At first, I had pretty much only pain - sharp, cramps pains in my lower abdomen- and light bleeding (everyday since insertion). But now I've realized the mood swings, the acne (which is impossible!), depression, the sleepiness... I just don't feel like myself at all. Only 6 weeks in, and I can't wait to get this thing out of me. Not to mention, I'm backpacking in Australia and now need to find a clinic here to help...
I have noticed that a lot of you are not utilizing Planned Parenthood's services, however. One woman mentioned spending nearly $1000 to have Mirena inserted. Planned Parenthood, although a lot of women have many misconceptions, is a wonderful option for women. Their services are available to anyone, any age, any situation. The clinics are always very professional, clean, and the staff always helpful and knowledgeable. I was unemployed at the time I had my Mirena inserted, and had to pay nothing. They depend on donations as many of you know. The counseling services have helped me through a few rough spots, and even if you need to only discuss your side effects and other possible options, I've learned they'll never let me down. I am 17 years old, about to be 18, my fiance is my first and only sexual partner, and I am beginning to HATE loestrin. I have been on the pills for approximately a month and a week. When I first started them I would get extremely hungry and the more I ate, the hungrier I got. It was like a bad case of the munchies, not that I've ever smoked pot. But I was seriously eating anything and everything, even foods I didn't like. My stomach felt a little weird for the first couple days, but nothing too bad. Then I started taking the brown pills, and all hell broke loose. There were the cramps. Horrible, HORRIBLE, cramps, which I am still having 3 days after going back on the active pills. Cramps all through my lower abdomen and stomach, and the feeling that at any given moment my right ovary might drop out (which might actually provide some relief) I actually doubled over crying with the pain in the shower yesterday, and would have fallen and surely hurt myself if my fiance had not been in the shower with me and caught me before I hit the ground. Intense hunger. Followed by bought of nausea, that make me want to puke, but I can't. I am very, very, sensitive to smells. Perfumes, food, cologne, things that I formally found the smell appealing, now disgust me. My lower back, is KILLING me! I get dizzy spells, and lightheadedness frequently, and feel like I may black out. Most of the time I can get myself to a spot where I can sit down and let my body sort things out before I actually black out, but I'm waiting for the day I can't. I have been getting terrible, awful headaches that stay with me through most of the day. Sleeplessness. I had my "period" 3-4 days early, if you can call it a period. It was nothing more than a day and a half of light pink spotting and brown discharge that only showed up when I wiped, I didn't even need a pad. Now, we did start having unprotected sex (with the exception of the bc) at 5 or 6 days instead of 7, and I forgot to take my pills until 9-12 hours after I was supposed to a couple of times. Couple that with the lack of a normal period and all the side effects that could also be the side effects of early pregnancy, and I'm pretty worried. I would love to be a parent, as would my fiance, but I would have liked to have graduated high school first. If these symptoms turn out to be just the pill *** with my body, I would rather just take my chances either with a condom or no protection at all. Sometime in the next week or two I will probably be taking a pregnancy test as I am afraid to wait for my next period and continue the pills because if I am pregnant I know that it can cause damage to the fetus. If anyone has wound up pregnant while on loestrin fe please email me and let me know how you found out, and how things turned out. My email address is ****** Thank you so much for any help you can give a scared teen.

Mirena is a horrible thing to have inserted inside of your precious uterus! I just had it removed today after 6 months, and I am so much better just in the first few hours! I have to say the constant fatigue hasn't even budged, I am hoping I feel better soon. I constantly had pain in my lower abdomen ever since it was put in. I kept calling the doctor and they said that it would go away, and it did for short periods, then it would return! God forbid I have sex because I would be sitting there in pain for the whole night and next morning, more then normal. I actually got used to the constant pain I was having so to the point that I feel like I just was given a new uterus! I have been eating so healthy lately and my weight hasn't even budged, which I thought was from my body changing after having a baby! I am so happy to find out that isn't true! I am only 22 and I don't deserve to be in pain every *** day!!! I can't tell you how bad I think the Mirena was for my body and I won't be surprised if there is a class action law suit coming soon! I only hope it didn't puncture something! It sure felt like it. When I went to the doctor she tried telling me that the pain was me ovulating!!! HELLO I have a child!!! I have ovulated and it didn't hurt like this!!! Also when I first had it inserted I almost lost my milk for my 2 mo. old!!! I worked and worked to keep it---heads up! IF YOU FEEL LIKE THIS FOREIGN THING IN YOUR BODY HURTS AND IT SHOULDN'T BE THERE, REMOVE IT SOMETHING IS PROBABLY WRONG!!! DON'T LET YOUR DR TELL YOU IT'S NORMAL! 6 MOS LATER AND MY PAIN DIDN'T GO AWAY!

So I'm back again to update you all since I've removed my mirena myself on Monday night and started my period this morning. So far everything seems to be going normal. I have lower back pain slight tenderness in my lower abdomen and some irritability. The bleeding is medium which I consider normal. I do have some slight joint pain, but I believe it's only from the bleeding as I didn't have it yesterday the day after removal. All on all so far so good. I hope it just continues to get better in time!!

I am SO glad I ran across this site.I am not crazy! My Mirena was put in about 3 months ago after my gyno finally put it together that my birth control pills were causing menstrual migraines. I will say the Mirena helped with the headaches, but lately I have not felt like myself. I have gained 10 lbs. in 3 months (even though I have been eating well and exercising more to avoid this side effect), my hair is oily, I have little dry itchy patches on my skin, fatigue, joint pain, no interest in having sex (after we do have sex sometimes I get horrible cramps and pain, like when the Mirena was inserted) I am super moody, and have anxiety/depression/anxiety problems, bloated almost constantly, and I feel like I can't focus or concentrate on anything! I called my gyno this morning because I do not want to feel like this anymore, and told her about all my symptoms. The only thing that makes sense to me is that Mirena is causing all my problems, since I never had any of them until I got it put in. The gyno tells me its not Mirena, that it definitely does not cause all that, and to get my thyroid checked because that is my problem. However, after reading all these stories, I am convinced that it is Mirena, and I am definitely getting it out. There is no way so many women can only have Mirena in common and have the same problems, even if they are not listed as side effects on the Mirena brochure.
So I am definitely getting it taken out, but I am curious about experiences after having it removed. How long till you feel like yourself again? Do the side effects go away quickly? Does it hurt more or less than getting it put in? Does the weight come off easily?
Hopefully this post helps someone as much as the other posts helped me. Thank you all for taking the time to post.

I posted a month or so ago that I was having my Mirena removed. I did and within a week there was a noticeable difference in my energy and attitude! Then my hands and feet deflated from the swelling - Thank God! The low back pain is gone, my blood pressure has lowered, I've lost a bit of weight, the cramping/pain in my lower abdomen is gone...
If you are looking for reasons to have one, do more research before you do... If you are considering having to removed because of similar side effects, you need to make your own decision... but in my opinion I would have it removed.

I've been on the Nuvaring for about a year now. At first there were no symptoms and I actually felt a lot better since it made my periods shorter and lighter with less cramps. Recently, my skin has been acting up with rashes on my forearms and between my thighs and even sometimes on my face and lower abdomen! I've always had issues with my skin because I have eczema but it's never acted up this way before and the last time i had it anywhere but where my arm bends was when I was 12!
My attitude has also taken a turn for the worse, I used to be very active and play sports all the time, but since using the Nuvaring my body has changed so much! My flat stomach is gone. :( I feel like I'm always bloated and my weight went from 120 to 135. I attributed all these changes to maybe being disinterested in playing sports or maybe because I'm in a serious relationship, but after reading all these posts I'm sure I'm getting off of the Nuvaring. I haven't had a lessend sex-drive, but I don't orgasm as much as I think is normal. I also had really curly hair before, I thought it straightening out was maybe because I was straightening it too much, so I stopped using the straightener and started using a curl boosting shampoo and conditioner, its been 2 months and I still have not even one curl.

I am 22, and a newly wed. I have been using NR since i was 18. I have been pretty happy with it until this last couple months when i have started to have some severe side effects. I actually ended up in the ER the 29th of may. i had some weight gain at the beginning but i figured that it was normal and didn't think too much of it. When i went to the ER it was because of how much pain i was in with my lower abdomen. They said they THOUGHT it MIGHT be a ruptured cyst. I went to the doctor the next day and she said that it wasn't. Since then i have noticed that my hair has been falling out, im a very thick haired blond. (not fair!!) the pain in my uterine area has been crippling. I ended up quitting my job due to nervous break down because of the pain and the not knowing why. I have abnormal pap smears the months that i used the nuvaring. Body aches, massive head aches, depression, moodiness, heavy excruciating periods, back aches, nausea, breast tenderness, and more and more weight gain. I have gained about 50 lbs since starting NR. I used it because i am AWFUL with pills. So that leaves me with nothing other than condoms, and they hurt me. When my husband and i have sex, WHEN we have sex, it hurts before, during and after. To the tune that my husband is afraid to have sex with me, for fear of causing me pain. So what to do?

Hi Ladies, like all of you I too have my share of Mirena issues. I have had my IUD in since March 2008, so a year & four months now. To start with the positive- I do not get periods. I haven't had a period starting the following month I had it put in. Now for all the Negatives- Bad Acne and usually I have great skin. Not anymore. They are more like red bumps mainly on my forehead, Constant migraines, mood swings, constantly stressed, pain in my lower abdomen, lower back pain (Doctors thought I had a kidney infection- all urine, blood tests, pelvin ultrasound, CAT scan were normal), constant urinating & cannot hold my urine (like a bad UTI), I have noticed when I comb my hair after washing it, I am losing a lot of hair, I get a lot of dizzy spells all the time, painful cramps in my legs, fluttering in my stomach (like a baby moving/kicking- I thought I was pregnant), I have a lot of discharge- I will be walking a big gush just comes out, my sex drive is barely there- I am in my 20's and just about every time I have sex with my husband I will just go dry in the middle of it & just about every position hurts, I have very itchy skin now. I am always scratching especially my legs. I am always applying lotion to help with the itching, I also developed a ganglion cyst in my hand next to my wrist. It was so painful my hands would swell, numbness & tingling in my fingers, pain in my forearm, I just had a needle aspiration done a few days ago. Now that I have confirmed the side effects with this site, as soon as my doctor's office opens I am calling to have this trash removed!!! Thank you Ladies.

hello everyone. i have had the mirena in for 3 years since the birth of my first child. I am 24 years old, and i am in the worst pain of my life. you see i have this pain, that i can only equate to stabbing pain that either occurs on my right or left lower abdomen. it starts out very dull and then like as if to warn me of the potential stress, comes back harder and harder. it can happen anytime, laying down in the middle of the night, standing up, driving in the car, anywhere any time. it will also come back more than once in a day, but then on the other hand sometimes i wont have it for a week at a time. the last time this happened, i was at work. i am a cna and its not a pleasant idea to be taking care of someone and all of a sudden you experience this pain. when the pain is fully involved, my whole leg on the affected side goes numb. i have tried to use Motrin, naproxen, heating pads, but nothing helps the pain. after seeing everyone else posts in this forum, i am going in this Thursday to get it out. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT THIS PRODUCT. i feel it has hurt me more than i even know. this is a very very scary feeling. i do also experience the bitchiness, and the constant bloating that everyone else does but i CANT DEAL with this pain anymore running my life. PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!

I had Mirena inserted into my cervix in March 2009. Almost one month later, I started having lower back pains and also pain in the left side of my pelvic. After going through 3 weeks of physiotherapy, the pain has reduced but it is not yet gone. Also, I've gained almost 10lbs during the past two months even though there is no change in my diet. Are these side-effects of Mirena?

The nuvaring should be re- named to the devil ring. I went on it for two days about a year ago. I went for a jog (like i have been doing every day for years) and felt this horrible cramp in my pelvic area. I had to sit on the curb and almost flagged somebody down to take me to the ER because I could not get up. Finally, I made it home, took out the ring, and about a half hour later I was fine. People thought I was crazy when I attributed it to the ring so I decided to go on it again last week. I immediately felt very much not like myself. I was on vacation with my family and was so extremely moody and irritable I was just un-bearable to be around. I had it in for 7 days before I decided to remove the ring. Once removed, about a half hour later I was much more pleasant and less irritable. It has been 6 days since I removed the ring and I have gotten my period. I experienced terrible terrible cramps yesterday to the point that while shopping I was huddled over in the aisle because I kept getting this shooting pain from my back to my lower abdomen. I have also been having very bad night sweats (I wake up in the middle of the night and have to shower because my clothes are completely drenched). Now, today I have a very bad migraine, I am experiencing the chills and sweats with no fever. I have made an appt w my GYN for Monday but its Friday...that means I have to go through two more days of this. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms even when the ring has been removed?

I had the IUD put in 8 months ago because I started getting serious with this boy and I wanted a stress free birth control. When they first put it in I felt the WORST period cramp I have ever experienced, I took three Vicodin from my roommate and they only made it a little better. I was on my back for two days. Every time I have a 'period' (I spot for about a day, the only good thing) I get stabbing pains in my uterus and lower abdomen. It's made me extremely paranoid, to the point of seeing people follow me at night who aren't really there and trying to end my relationship based on fears of him controlling me and wanting to leave. I have lost about a centimeter in diameter from my ponytail. I had really thick beautiful hair and now it's just average. I rarely want to have sex and when we do have sex, I never am into it enough to have an orgasm. In some positions it starts to hurt really badly, he said on numerous occasions the strings have poked him. I bleed after sex about 75% of the time. I've felt like I've had the flu for the past six months, I thought I might've gotten pregnant even with the birth control because I was experiencing morning sickness-like nausea. I have had a sore throat and trouble breathing through my nose for at least five months. I get depressed over nothing, I get irritated at the stupidest little things. I thought the cause of this was my relationship because I haven't felt like myself since we started dating. I never want to get up and do anything anymore, I always feel tired. I forget what it feels like to have energy. I haven't been able to take a normal shit this entire time, it either won't happen or is diarrhea. I'm freaking 18. I shouldn't be exhausted after sleeping 9 hours a night. I should be able to want and enjoy sex! My vision gets blurry and I get sinus headaches and migraines. I thought all that was a result of me breaking my glasses and not buying replacements. I only needed glasses for seeing far away at night, now I can barely see the computer screen as I type these words. I know Mirena is different for everyone and that a lot of women enjoy it, but I'm getting this thing taken out tomorrow.

I have had the mirena for 4 weeks now and i am still spotting which i totally expect. However i have had a constant dull ache in the left lower abdomen since it was put in which every day for a few hours turns into a stabbing pain which feels like appendicitis it is so bad but i know it can't be as i have no appendix it was removed. I was not instructed to feel for the string but been in the medical profession i thought i would as i wondered if this pain was related to the mirena? 2 days post insertion i could clearly feel the strings now i can located my cervix and i definitely have no strings does any one have any experience with this? Is this pain related to the mirena?

I started NuvaRing about a week ago and I think the diarrhea I experienced just hours after putting it in is related to it. I called my doctor first thing the next morning and since I had been sick with a cold, she thought that might be the reason for my symptoms - not the ring. She told me to take some Pepto and call her after a week. Took the Pepto and for two days I was fine but then after lunch the other day at work I had an urgent need to go to the bathroom and - sorry to be graphic - I pretty much emptied everything out of my body and it has been like that ever since. I was trying to be optimistic about the NR but I cannot keep anything in my body and I am now starting to experience a little pain in my lower abdomen.
I switched to the NR because I forgot to take my pill each day but I think that I will remember to take it now. Back to Yasmin and I will never complain about taking a damn pill again!

I have been on NR for 3 weeks now. I'm 23 and haven't taken any form of BC in a few years but now that I am in a serious relationship I wanted to protect myself. I was so excited about NR because I didn't have to remember to take a pill everyday and my GYN told me that there are virtually no side effects. YEAH RIGHT!!!!! I thought I was crazy for the way I have been feeling lately but after reading all of these posts I am soooo relieved to learn that i'm not!
The first side effect I noticed that came on immediately and has not stopped since I started NR is a cramping feeling in my lower abdomen. It feels like period cramps only not quite as bad. It doesn't really hurt it's just annoying. The second side effect I noticed which started about a week after I began NR was that I lost my sex drive almost entirely! My boyfriend and I just spent a week on a cruise together alone and we didn't even have sex once!! The other side effect I have is migraine headaches. I got my first one the 2nd week after starting NR and they are horrible!!! I'm also constantly hungry! I have gained 10 lbs in the last 3 weeks! And every time after I eat I get really nauseous for about an hour or two. The last thing is that I have been super moody lately. Things that normally don't bother me I am getting really irritated and annoyed about. I'm already on medication for anxiety and mild depression which I started way before the NR so I know that the NR is what is causing it.
I was recently tested for a hormone imbalance which came back negative a few months ago so all of these problems HAVE to be coming from the NR. They all started within the last 3 weeks which is when I started using the NR.
For any woman out there who is considering taking NR PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE seriously think about. I have heard more bad than good about this product!!!

I am 26 and just gave birth to my first child. I had Mirena put in just a week ago and was very excited about this form of birth control. However, it has been the most uncomfortable week of my entire life. Not only did I have the most intense cramps at the time of insertion of the device, but last night I awoke in the middle of the night to the MOST EXTREME pain in my lower abdomen that I have ever felt. It felt like someone was pulling my insides out. I was so sick with pain that I went to the bathroom and ended up vomiting and curled up on the floor crying out for help at 2am. My 8 week old son was crying so much because I know he was scared for how his mommy was sounding. My husband took care of him while I got in the bath and nearly passed out from the pain. It subsided about 2 hours later and I was able to fall back asleep. I called the office today and had it removed!!! I already feel like I am ME again, and without some alien object in my body trying to trick it. Maybe I should have gone with a copper one... but I think I will just stay away from it all together and use the pill or the shot or SOMETHING other than any kind of IUD.
Also, I gained in excess of 70 lbs with my son (how that happened is beyond me! I started at 130!) and was loosing it steadily since my son's birth. However, this last week I have not lost a pound and truly believe it is because of Mirena. I did not change my diet and have been taking even more walks and getting more exercise than before.

I was recently put on Yasmin, I've just finished up my first pack. Some of my friends told me to read the blogs on it cause it's not all that it's cracked up to be. I was originally put on it due to PMDD. I get hellacious PMS and i was told that this pill can help. I also take antidepressants to treat mild depression, so the low/single dose hormone is essential for me. Throughout the past month I've had two migraine headaches which is unusual. I do get headaches but not like these. I can't even open my eyes, eat, or have any noise or light around. It's really awful. I do have the dizzy spells and some gnarly pain in my lower abdomen and in between my shoulder blades. It feels like cramps but I'm not having a period yet. I'm hoping these side effects will go away as my body adjusts but frankly, from these blogs I'm really leery to keep taking this pill. Any recommendations for a girl who needs a monophasic pill and need extra help staying sane during PMS? Any news helps. Thanks and best of luck to us all.

Wow... After reading some of these posts, I don't know what to do. I recently asked my gyno to prescribe bcp. I'm a regular irregular but it drives me crazy when I think it is coming and ends up being late. I've tried Ortho-Tri Cyclen and Ortho Evra (which I loved! Despite the weight gain, I didn't have to remember to take a pill every day) I've been off birth control for about 6 years now and my gyno said that due to the high risk of blood clots with Ortho Evra he didn't recommend it. He handed me a few samples of Loestrin 24fe but after reading almost all of your posts... I don't know what to think, especially because I've been experiencing almost all the same symptoms as most of without being on birth control. From the random headaches, weight gain, breast tenderness, severe cramping (like someone stabbing my lower abdomen), random spotting and even hairloss (the top of my head is clearly visible. It's so bad that I lose at least 5 strands just by running my fingers through my hair.) Part of me wants to try it out but I'm VERY scared that it will only worsen my symptoms... Help!Btw, nightmares? Really? Is that really a side effect? That's pretty nerve racking. Last thing anyone needs is to be afraid of going to bed after a long day of work...

I began taking Yasmin when I was 16 to regulate the irregularity and terrible mood swings I was going through. This was in 2004, when Yasmin was very new. I had terrible nausea for the first three months, but after that I was fine. I had clear, healthy skin, and my moods evened out. I was told that it was completely safe and that when I wanted to get off of it to become pregnant there would be no lasting problems. I was great for about two years, and then I began to experience many of the symptoms of pregnancy. I would have pain in my lower abdomen, as well as nausea, mood swings, breast tenderness, and even spotting prior to my period. I consulted with my doctor and she assured me that it was all normal. She explained that my being on birth control was like I was permanently in a state of early pregnancy. She also suspected that I might have ovarian cysts. As a solution to all these problems, she proposed that I try Yaz. So I did for about a year and a half. Then I started experiencing the same symptoms again. I contacted my doctor, and they suggested that the hormones in Yaz were not strong enough to prevent my ovarian cysts from forming. It was at this point that I decided that I should do some investigation of my own. My husband and I decided that I should discontinue all birth control and we would manage my mood problems through diet and behavior modification. I have done this successfully, however, I am just now returning to what I expect is my normal hormone levels. I wanted to get off of birth control because I had found that some women who had used the Depro-Provera shot have taken years to regain fertility, as well as the birth control patch. Because we were planning on having children in the next five years from 2008, we became worried. Since being off birth control (in 2007) it took me until December 2008 to begin having periods that were irregular - meaning that it took me about a year and a half to return to normal cycles. I would not recommend Yaz or Yasmin if you are looking to conceive within 2-3 years. All the side effects listed here are similar to what I experienced, but I think it is up to the individual to decide whether it is worth it. I am now 21 and have acne like I never did when I was a teenager. I think I am now going through adolescence when I should be over all that.

I am 26 years old and I was diagnosed with endometriosis last year (2008). I had pain in my lower abdomen for years and doctors always told me nothing was wrong but I knew there was. Finally a doctor did an ultrasound and found a 7cm mass on my left ovary. I also had a slightly smaller mass on my right ovary. My doctor told me that he would need to do a lap to remove the masses and possibly remove my left ovary because he could hardly see any ovarian tissue on the ultrasound. Thank goodness when he did the lap I was able to keep but ovary but he told me that I had one of the worst cases of endo he had seen. My right ovary was stuck to the wall of my abdomen due to the endo and I even had endo on my bowel. He removed what he could but not all of it was removable. He suggested that I go on Lupron for 6 months to "shrink" the rest of the endo. I have been on Lupron for 3 months. I just went and got my second 3 month injection. I have had some side effects such as Headaches, Bone pain, Hot Flashes, Insomnia, Drowsiness, Increased appetite and major Mood Swings. All of which come and go. I try to stay active but I don't over do it. It seems to help with the joint pain. Most of my side effects were in the first 2 months of getting the injections. I am told all the time that everyone reacts differently to Lupron and there is a pill you can take to reduce the side effects of Lupron but it does reduce the effects of the Lupron so my doctor suggested that I not take it unless the side effects were unbearable. I don't remember what it is called but if you are one of those people having major side effects ask your doctor.

Oh my lord, im about to cry now, i have mirena and i loved it at first, i loved not having to take a dumb pill and all that. ive hd my mirena for about 5 months and i didn't think it was causing any side effects at all. until about 2 weeks ago i got this huge headache. i still have it! it makes me sick to even look at my phone because my head hurts so bad. i feel nausea and tired all the time. i don't want to have sex, its painful and i have no drive at all. and i smell pretty funky down THERE. ya know? i didn't think it was because of my mirena but now that iv been to like 3 or 4 different sites and people are saying they had the same symptoms i had, im wondering if it is my mirena. i tell you what i cannot sleep at night and everyday i come home and take naps, ive been getting sharp pains in my lower abdomen that almost bring me to my knees and i swear i can feel it moving around, like when your a few months pregnant and the baby moves, thats how it feels, the thing is im not pregnant i take monthly tests because im paranoid. also ive had about 5 bladder infections in the past 5 months ve had mirena. funny huh? well my sister just found out that bladder infections are a side effect. bet your dr. didn't tell you that, mine didn't either. ive never had a bladder infection in my life. they hurt so bad ive been to specialists and they cant figure out why i have them. im thinking the mirena. Thank you all so much for sharing your stories, because i think im going to get mine removed so i can be myself again...

Insertion was horribly painful, I have no children so the best way to describe the pain is to compare it with my worst period cramps ever, although far worse. And for the next 3 months thereafter I had pain and I guess like swelling or bloating in my lower abdomen, which was so bad I felt dizzy and had to grit my teeth until it passed. (I still feel like this but now only on the very rare occasion near my period.) Naturally I had no desire for sex during this time, and afterwards my libido was present for about 2 weeks....but it's COMPLETELY gone now and haven't seen it since ...I don't know what to say to my BF to make him feel better about it or how to explain it and he doesn't want me to take it out .... I don't want this damn thing to ruin my relationship. On top of that my periods are worse; my cramps are more intense and last for days now not just 24hours and my breasts hurt so bad and are so swollen and hard my nipples are like daggers and it hurts to touch them. I can't be sure if I put on Mirena weight or just a winter 10lbs?
It's convenient.... but I'm not sure it's worth it??

Hello! Im 26 years old and just had the mirena put in a month ago. my main reason getting it was because i was no longer going to have health insurance and didnt want to pay for pills or anything. Im not going to lie, it hurt soooooo bad to get it put in. I almost kicked the doctor. i haven't had any children so my cervix was not welcoming to the mirena at all. i had it put in on a Friday by Sunday i was running around the house cleaning and fine, I have been married 3 years and have never had a sex drive (my poor husband), I don't know if its the mirena but now i am always sexually ready to go! I actually want to have sex :) husbands sooo happy. i dont have to remember the pill which is great. i do sometimes get some cramping but nothing to stop me. i am still able to go running and do everything i could before. so far i am loving having the mirena!!! IT"S AWESOME!!!

I've been on YAZ for two months now. It's terrible. I'm in my first sexual relationship and it led me to believe I was pregnant for a few days. My period was late, I woke up sick to my stomach, had munchies from hell, and was about as moody as my mother when she tries to quit smoking. I've gained 3 pounds (after being ecstatic for losing 20), had severe pain in my lower abdomen, a vaginal infection, a tightening in my vagina that causes a large amount of pain, extreme breast tenderness, reoccurring headaches, and pains in my chest. I'm scheduled for a pre-op. physical tomorrow. I have a feeling I am going to speak with my physician about switching my birth control. if I get any moodier, I think I may end up running my boyfriend over with my car. :D
