I was prescribed Sulfameth for a UTI only yesterday. I've taken three doses and I feel like complete and utter crap. I feel like I have a huge lump in my throat that goes down to my chest. It's very painful, like someone is standing on top of me. And it gets worse every time I swallow. Even drinking water makes it worse. At first I thought that huge pill just got stuck in my throat but it's been eight hours since I took it and it's still there. Last night I felt the same but I just thought that was from the infection. This morning I woke up feeling great but after taking it with breakfast it's all been downhill. Now my heartbeat is up, I'm getting dizzy and my hands feel really weak and shaky. I just called my doctor and they're switching me to something else. I just hope it makes me feel better than this stuff.

I think some of the severe symptoms reported here are just that.. severe, and as advised on the drug information insert they can happen, and should be reported to your doctor. We are led to believe our doctors will stop the meds and try something else. If they are not willing to do that, or try to convince us it's all in our heads then... we should stop the meds ourselves and find another dr. These side effects are real, and scary. I've stopped cholesterol meds for that reason. I don't need a dr. to tell me to stop... I know my body, and how I feel and know when something isn't right.
I've been on Lisinopril for two weeks now. I was initially on the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide, but had so much arrhythmia that I thought my heart would jump out of my throat. The dr. discontinued that after less than a week, and put me on Lisinopril. I am a bit dizzy sometimes, and do have a mild cough, but I had the cough before the meds so I can't really blame it on that. However, for all those with the problem of coughing and headaches... I read at drugs.com that you should take this medication with a full glass of water, and drink lots of water throughout the day. This tip was not in the drug handout and I thought that odd. Something so easy, and yet left out. Luckily, I drink water at my desk all day at work. This weekend while home I didn't drink water and had a horrible headache the entire time. I never connected it until I read that you should drink lots of water. Back to work today and drinking water and my headache is gone. It's worth a try, it might help. My husband is on Lisinopril/HCTZ combo, has been for at least 3-4 years with no adverse side effects.
We are all different, medication effects all of us in different ways. I hope I never experience the kinds of side effects I'm reading about here. If so, I'll be off the drug in short order. My dr. told me there are loads of other medications we can try. While there are side effects to everything we take, mild is ok but no one should put up with life altering and/or life threatening side effects like what I am reading here.

I am actually crying as I had no idea what was wrong with me. I have been on Lisionopril now for about 5 years at 40 mg/day.
During those five years I have been fatigued, suffered with GERD, dry cough. Of course my doc said to lose weight.
Last month I went on a diet and all hell broke loose. I lost 25 lbs and I don't know if the weight loss released all of those Lisionopril toxins or what but here goes:
Fatique, weakness, arm and leg muscle pain, absolutely no sex drive, rib cage pain, back pain, perceived shortness of breath. Heart palpitations, dry cough with mucus. I have a lump in my throat. It got so bad I went to the ER , they drew labs and my BP was elevated. They added labetalol to the lisinopril. I came across this site and I called my doctor and I told him that I wasn't taking lisinopril anymore. I feel as if I am having a slow death. I cant function, I cant work, I am panicky and nervous.
He said to monitor my pressure with 2x/day with the Labetalol.
I was on the maximum dose and I wonder how long will it take for this poison to leave my body. I can't believe what this medicine is made from. I am more than willing to lose weight and do anything to stop taking these poisons. I would love to hear your experiences. I need all the support that I can get.
I just don't understand the sudden exacerbation of all of the symptoms unless it is the weight loss. But my BP never went down even with the weight loss.

I'm not a person who usually has bad reactions to antibiotics but I've never been so miserable as I was taking this drug. I felt excruciating pain in my stomach all day, every day, while taking this medicine. I stopped taking it almost a week ago and I still feel like I have a big lump in my throat making it very painful to swallow. And the worst part is that it was prescribed to me "just in case", so I didn't even have to be taking it. Luckily as soon as my bloodwork came back negative for any bacterial infection things, they let me stop taking it, but like I said, I still feel ill and my throat is killing me.

Hey guys i was given LEVAQUIN for a Bacterial infection, maybe a UTI or some other types pertaining with E-coli. At first i was fine. I was given 750 mg for 5 days. Today is 9 am of the 4th day and i have one more pill to go. First night was fine. Had a few nightmare, specially one pertaining to my umbilical cord poping out of my belly. VERY WEIRD... Second day was ok felt a little weak from the drug, but have severe anxiety attack. On the third day i started noticing. Some sores most probably thrushing form the drug ( years infection ) but more like sores in circles on my tongue. The fourth day i was the worst. My mind could not stop racing. I was very anxious. I could not even sit through a movie without going crazy. I had bed tremors. Left very HOT real quickly and started sweating and then feel cold when there is too much air blowing. Weird things like that. I got a lump in my throat. NOt sore but more like i can swallow my spit. I had no headaches at all from this drug. ( I THINK YOU GUYS NEED TO REALIZE THIS, headaches are caused by this drug if you do not drink A LOT OF WATER. I am now drinking about 4 to 5 liters of water a day. It helps with the JOINT ACES and headaches. BUT NOT the physiological effects. Man those are killers. I think i am going to take my last pill this evening at 7:30 and hope for the best. I have had no fever at all but soem fluxuation in degree of temp from 97 to 99 degree in general. Please if any of you guys have similar symptoms like mine, specially hot and cold sweats and mouth dryness and soars on your tongue. Please email me back i would like your input.
I am going to call my doctor today and ask him what to do but i am sure i ca continue on this drug.
thank you so much for all your post this put my mind at ease !! Because honestly i though that there was something wrong with me.
btw i am a 28 year old male

I too have had the same bad side effects with Femcone FE. I started taking this pill after having my daughter and during the first month I started to feel more on edge and angry. I had my first anxiety attack about 3 months after starting this pill, didn's think much of it. Then about a month ago I started to notice a pain in my breast and it was like more of a dull ache feeling. Then the anxiety came back all of a sudden one day then the effects of it were lingering for a week I felt horrible like I was going to die. I couldn't read anything in the news b/c I had the overwhelming feeling of doom. I stayed like that for a week and could not figure out why I even went to the doctor he told me it was depression but I didn't feel depressed. I soon thought about what am I taking and the only thing was Femcone so I stopped it and slowly but surely I am feeling back to my old self again it was very scary feeling that way. Now I have mellowed out a lot I don't get mad so easily and I don't feel anxious, irritable, moody, have all kinds of things running through my head, shortness of breath, or have that lump in my throat anymore. I would highly suggest research what birth control pill you are taking first and thanks to this website I now know that I wasn't alone with all this.

Get the heck off this pill when you can! Do NOT let anyone, your doctor or anyone else, tell you to take it. 3 weeks were horrible enough coming off of Yaz which was bad as well. Here is the list of awful and unbearable side effects that they you get from this chewable pill that has iron pills as the last week:
Headache, fatigue, moodiness, depression, anxiety, feeling jumpy and scared easily, nausea, constipation, night sweats, facial and body acne, stomach pains, anger, irritability, oversensitivity, etc. I am a happy and laughable girl and have been brought down by this pill. I feel like I can't breathe and have a constant lump in my throat! I have cried at the drop of a hat and my finance has said that I am different. This is supposed to be best time of my life planning my wedding and I am miserable! HORRIBLE PILL- this should be taken off the market ASAP!

I was given Metoprolol, a generic for Toprol-XL several months ago, for high blood pressure. It was prescribed after I was determined to be allergic to Lisinopril. ( It caused a cough that lasted 3 months; I sounded like a TB patient.) Anyway, I have been taking Effexor for years, for anxiety attacks. Now that I take Metoprolol along with the Effexor, I am so tired and drained all the time, that I am contemplating quiting work. I go to the grocery, come home and lie down. I can't seem to have energy to breath correctly. My Dr. won't believe that this has anything to do with meds. I have now developed blood and mucous in my stools, diarrhea, and very urgent BMs. This all started after taking these two meds in combination for about 4 months.

I started to take it after periodontal surgery. One night, I took it while in bed and without taking water. Stupid, stupid, stupid! That night I could barely sleep, waking every time I'd swallow due to the pain. It hurt from my throat down to the center of my chest. It even burned a little bit. While it does not burn so much now I still feel as if I have a lump in my throat. When I do swallow it is uncomfortable but at least not painful. It has been 36 hours.
I have stopped taking it until I can check with my doctor.

I started taking Doxycycline on Jan 22, 2007 for Lyme Disease. I usually get nausea and/or vomiting with most antibiotics so I try and take precautions. The first day I took it I had nausea, headache, dizziness and a feeling of being "out of it". by the 3rd day the dizziness and the feeling of being "out of it" was gone but after I took it in the morning within 1/2 hour I started feeling severe esophagus pain. It's not like heartburn because it's right below my rib cage. That night I started noticing feeling like there was a lump in my throat. By the next morning the lump felt like a huge knot. Now, It hurts every time I swallow, the esophagus pain never ends. Last night I spent the night crying feeling like everything was hopeless. I thought it was just because I've been dealing with the pain from Lyme and now the pain from the medicine now that I read this message board, I wonder if the hopeless, despondent feeling is from this medication. I have 2 more weeks on this I don't think I can take it that long. I haven't eaten anything because it hurts to swallow and it burns. I cry all the time. I did not read that depression was a side effect but it seems a lot of people are experiencing the exact same symptoms. I don't know how some people have been on it so long. Just the thought of taking another is depressing me beyond belief.

I'm 16 years old. The nuvaring is my first birthcontrol ever. When i first put it in the next day i was very emotional. I cried over silly things and i would get pissed off over nothing. Then a week or two passed and i just wasnt feeling well. I was tired, had headaches, cramping. I just didnt like the mood i was in. My second or third week i found a lump in my throat. Now today i found another one directly under my chin. Do you think this could have any connection? Im due to take thing ring out tomorrow, and im hoping when i do these lumps will go away. Im praying to God that the lumps are nothing serious and its just a side affect of this "cool' birth control. If anyone can help me out PLEASE contact me. ******

Like a lot of others, I have a dry, persistant cough that keeps me awake at night. I also feel like I have a lump in my throat and am constantly trying to clear it although there's nothing there. I also have a severe headache since taking this drug one week ago, and stopped taking Lisinopril as of today.

I am hoping that this will help at least one person, to get off of lisinopril
There is a big difference between "side effects" and actual symtoms that are happening to most of us that take lisinopril.
Side effects usually occur shortly after taking a certain medication.
i took lisinopril for 2 years and gradually all the symptoms escallated and continued to get worse over time. i tought i was dying, i did so many test to find out what was wrong with me, cost a fortune, eventually i realised that all of these things were being caused by lisinopril.
I had shortness of breath, muscle weakness, joint pain, after every meal i was so bloated and a very heavy feeling at night , i could hardly turn in my bed because of being so weak and felling heavy, and the worse was this lump in my throat that got worse every day until i could not swallow or even breath i decided to do MRI ,found nothing , i ran out of lisinopril medication and this immediately got better, i have stopped taking for 1 month and i feel a lot better but still trying to recover from these "side Effects"

Hello,
I am a 37 yr old male and have been on Lisinopril 20/25 for about 6 months now. I was asked to switch because the medication I was on before was not approved by my insurance carrier and this medicine is one tenth the cost.
I have never really put all of this together until I found this site. I have become increasingly confused and find normal tasks more difficult. I have always struggled with slight depression and anxiety but it has become much worse. (One of the side effects I knew nothing about before this site.) I constantly have the feeling I am going to dye or that something terrible is going to happen to me or my family.
My wife asked me yesterday if I felt that I was more confused lately and she said I was not acting myself for the last few months. Now I may know the validity of that question.
My other bothersome side affects are the feeling of a lump in my throat that I can not cough out; irregular heart beat and occasional high BP with pounding heart beat; Numbness in one or both hands; Mood swings and loss of patience.
I have just attributed these symptoms to getting older but now I know I am not going crazy!!!! Thank God for this site.
Good luck to everyone else...

I have read a ton of the posts in this category. I have been taking Lisinopril as an addition to my regular blood pressure medication for approximately 3 years, with absolutely no problems. My 10mg was increased to 20mg a week ago. Still no problems. It has only helped me. If there are any changes, I will definitely post it. I believe that symptoms can arise from reading an article. I actually know a couple people who read things, and suddenly they are convinced they have the problem or disease referenced. I call it an Epidemic of Diagnoses. Always seek a doctors advice before stopping medications. Stopping suddenly on certain drugs, can be more dangerous than taking them.

Hmmm. Can't believe everything I am hearing about Advair. Just this past weekend I was at my grandmothers and she told me Advair made her feel she had to clear her throat. Lightbulb! I have been using Advair for about five months and never realized that is why I feel I have a lump in my throat and that I am constantly clearing my throat, not to mention I sound like a frog when I talk sometimes! I also have gained ten pounds and I have never had a problem with weight! I was glad to find this sight and hear others have similar problems. Thanks! I am going to quit using Advair today!

After being diagnosed with “mild asthma” I was prescribed Adviar. Nothing was discussed as far a side effects of Adviar and the accompanying pamphlet did not raise any “red flags” but after just a month of being on this drug I gained over 20 lbs.!! I became emotional and cried easily, fatigued, dizzy, retained fluid. I know I should not have but immediately stopped taking Adviar. I all ready feel better and the weight is dropping fast! This drug should be removed from the market and I am not happy with the Dr. who prescribed it!

I've been on 25mg of generic Zoloft for a week and I've developed the feeling of a lump in my throat. It seems to get worse for a little while after I take it, but it may also be anxiety about taking it. I'm supposed to increase the dosage to 50mg tomorrow, but I'm afraid to in case it's really an allergic reaction. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've been on 40 mg. of Lisinopril for about 3 months and suddenly realized after checking this site that the lump in my throat and cough are no doubt due to this drug. I am taking myself off immediately, and hope that diligent weight loss and Res-per-Rate will do the trick.

I have had GERD for 3 years, and I took Nexium to treat it for the first 2 years... worked great, could eat whatever I wanted (I love spicy food!) with no side effects. My insurance stopped covering Nexium, so I began to take Aciphex as both my mother and grandmother have taken it for years (GERD runs in our family). In the last week, I have had a sensation like a huge lump in my throat, and the feeling that I could not take a deep enough breath. Since I have dealt with anxiety in the past, I thought it must be that... however, I noticed that I was burping much more than usual and when I wasn't burping, I felt like I needed to but couldn't. I have felt miserable, and thought something was really wrong with me. Tonight, I found this site and another of people complaining of the experience I am having. I am not taking Aciphex for the rest of the week and will see how I feel. I hope that the way I feel is due to the side effects of this medicine! I will pay out of pocket for Nexium, b/c the way I feel no is unacceptable. My mom and grandmother have never had these problems, however, medicine affects all people differently... I just don't think Aciphex and I go together.

Man, I feel like I've had every side effect in the book. I've been *on* Zoloft for 10 days now. I hear the side effects are supposed to subside after about 2 weeks, but I'm getting impatient. I've had nausea, indigestion, dizziness, severe tension headaches, bizarre dreams, restlessness (in general, and in particular, in my hands), numbness/tingling in my hands and feet, a 'lump in my throat' feeling, trouble sleeping, decrease in appetite, and a general disconnectedness from reality. It may be helping the immediate issues with my anxiety, but I am plenty anxious now about all these new symptoms. It's scary! My gut tells me this is a sign that perhaps Zoloft is not the right drug for me... but I thought it was supposed to be one of the gentler drugs in this category.
