I'm 46 and have been taking Advair for 7 years and I'm amazed at all of the side effects I've noticed of Advair that I've never had before. Asthma aside, I've always been healthy, moderately active and eat healthy yet noticed over the last couple of years I constantly feel like a puff ball from water retention and bloating - it's awful. My eyesight is worse, blurry and dry eyes. Constant muscle and joint pain, occasional dizziness and lightheadness, mood swings, just about everything . I've also noticed a decrease in libido and an increase in blood pressure. Does anyone have experience with a better replacement for it that I can discuss with my physician that does not cause any additional side effects from switching from Advair to a different long-term inhaler?

I am 27 had my Mirena inserted May 05 as I could no longer take the pill and I was diagnosed with endometriosis. It's known as a preventative for the spreading of endometriosis due to the lack of menstrual bleeding. I've not had menstrual bleeding since August 05 and not suffered from any side effects. I thought it was the best contraceptive ever invented, so happy with it.To think no periods, cramps, remembering to take the pill and not to forget how much money I've saved over the past years by not having to buy contraception or female toiletries. How ever I've had four UTI's since the Mirena was inserted. I never suffered from UTI's before the mirena was inserted. I have not changed my hygiene practises, fluid intake and I'm having less intercourse. So is it caused by the mirena??? I can't be sure but I'm am very suspicious. Think I'll consult my Gynecologist

I'm 46 years old male. I am very active. Water Ski, Snow Ski, Weight Lifting, Hockey etc. I was on Simvastatin 40mg per day for about two months. Although I have a bit of arthritis in my knees and shoulders I couldn't believe how horrible I felt on this drug. I felt so weak and I had joint pain that was incredible. I walked around feeling like I had the flu or something. I ached every where. My knee swelled up really bad and I didn't know what to think. So I called my doctor and he said to go off it for now and I can't believe how good I feel again. The scary thing is he wants me to take a two week break then go back on it. According to him, he has read stories that statistics show if you go off this drug for a few weeks then go back on it ,that most of the time people don't experience the same side effects ever again. If anyone has been off then back on it without side effects I would like to hear from you. I really don't want to gamble with this again. It was horrible.

After reading these posts I am connecting some of my experiences that I attributed to other things. Glad to know it could be the IUD and not just me. I'm 46 so things are changing anyway. Thought the dizziness was from my blood pressure medicine... Anyway I got my Mirena in '05 so I've had it for awhile. I got it after my divorce. I like not having periods but I don't like the occasional brown discharge or spotting.
The worst side effect that I've experienced is the total lack of sexual sensation. Many of the other women report loss of libido but I think this might be different. I want to have sex but when I do it's like I have no sexual sensation from vaginal penetration at all. Almost as though it was dead down there. I also don't have the same sensation in my breasts as I used to. I've never been overly sexual but this is really frustrating. I've been seeing the same man for the last 2 years. He's very sexually oriented so it's a good thing we can only see each other every other weekend when he doesn't have his kids. It's really important to him so I indulge. Otherwise the relationship is great. I can orgasm sometimes but not from penetration. I asked the doctor but she kinda blew me off saying there was nothing I could do except teach him how. So I mostly suffer in silence and fake it sometimes.
Been thinking about getting the Mirena removed but I was worried it might not help. Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if everything goes back to normal when it's removed. I do like not having my period but perhaps it's not worth it. Please let me know!

Hello! After a 3 1/2 day stay in the hospital for atrial Fibb. which has since gone away and was likely cuased by extreme low blood potassium and sodium which has since been brought to all but normal levels.. I was taken off of Plavix a blood thinner which I had been taking since a heart attack in 2003, and put on the Warfarin, that was on June 22nd that I began taking Warfarin/Coumadin!. About 2 weeks ago I began having neck and shoulder pain, then slowly side and back pains deep down in the muscles. It is much worse in laying down position, have a hard time to sleep well, and if I trun or move while lying down the pain is very intense. I am going to assk the Dr. to take me off of the Warfarin and put me back on Plavix so I can see it it is the reason for the pains. I am quite sure it is! Please reply if you have the same symptoms as I do! Thanks, B.E.

I'm 46, female.. developed blood clots on my lungs for apparently no reason, found them when going to ER and complaining of bad headache, nausea and left shoulder and back pain. I haven't had a recent surgery, nor was on birth control.
I'm dealing with anxiety, depression, unusual headache, horrible back and upper shoulder pain, itching of head, hair falling out during shampooing, , tightness in chest, trouble swallowing, really bad pain in hips, legs and feel like feet swell. I don't sleep well, even on Ambien.. doesn't keep me asleep. I awake in the mornings around 4:30 with diarrhea, nausea, headache and feel awful. Never get a good nights sleep. My hips hurt as well as dealing with parathesias down right arm and into hand.. feels like needles sticking in my hand. Most days I feel wiped out in the afternoon.. as I try and drag myself out of bed to get some excersise.
Does anyone deal with parathesia's down their arms or hands.. what feels like nerve pain?
Has anyone ever tried Aggrenox, also known as Dipyridamole instead?
Or actually tried the real Coumadin, instead of the generic Warfarin?
Has any other woman out there been told not to use a tampon when on her cycle, as this will cause more menstrual bleeding?
I'm so tired of Dr.'s not having personal experience of their own with this drug.. and telling the patient that they are crazy and need to be on anxiety meds or anti-depressants. I just found out that Warfarin is the main ingredient in RAT POISON..
Has anyone EVER gone the totally nutrition route, juiced and gone radical, telling their Dr.'s that they were getting off of all meds?
Does anyone suffer from feeling like their ears are full, or hearing loss?
I'm so tired of feeling afraid.. and tossed around by Dr.'s who really don't want to do the research, nor listen to their patients.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has some insight..on any or all of the questions..

Symptoms: joint pain, blisters on tongue, low blood pressure, dizziness, loss of vision. I started Levaquin 750 mg orally 11 days ago for diverticulitis, along with Flagyl. I had taken Levaquin in the past for this same condition without any side effects. I am also on Benicar 25 mg for high blood pressure. This time after spending $106 dollars AFTER insurance, I started having problems with dizziness where I would lose my vision for a few seconds every time I stood up from a sitting position, or sat up from laying down. My arms and legs felt very heavy and I was exhausted and felt like I could hardly walk. Since I had taken this drug before without complications, it didn't occur to me that this might be a side effect of the Levaquin. My doctor recommended I stop taking the Flagyl, which I did. Nothing improved. After several days of this I finally went to an after hours clinic and found that my blood pressure was 90/50. The nurse told me to stop taking my blood pressure med for a few days, that maybe there was a reaction. (She stated she had never heard of blood pressure being affected by an antibiotic). I stopped taking my blood pressure medication and it came up to normal within about 36 hours. Approximately 4 days ago my tongue broke out with little blisters all over, top and bottom and my lips are cracking. Yesterday my joints started aching and I feel like I'm 75 every time I take a step. (I'm 46) I took my last Levaquin yesterday and I still have the blisters and the joint pain is worse. This morning my blood pressure was back to my normal "mild high" range of about 130/83. I took my blood pressure med and it came back down to what is normal for me, 122/77. I haven't done anything different (meds, food, products, etc.) that should be causing these blisters, and I don't feel sick other than the joint pain, so I'm assuming these are side effects related to the Levaquin. I'm hoping they will clear up now that I'm done with the medication. I find it interesting that I spoke with two different pharmacists and two different physicians and none of them indicated there might be contra-indications with Levaquin and my blood pressure med. The good news is that the diverticulitis seems to be gone!

Hi..I just went off Yaz last week after being on it for 18 mos for severe periods. I've had nausea, diarrhea, gained 20 lbs, sore and aching legs, and the worst lower back pain. I've been go a gastrointestinal specialist for a endoscopy and colonoscopy and everything came back normal. I've also had a CT, MRI and nerve blocks for my back but nothing helped. My daughter had a really bad reaction to the Mirena IUD and a light bulb went off that maybe the Yaz was responsible. I'm 46 and I feel like I'm 86. I literally manage to go to work (most days) and then am too sore and exhausted to do anything else except lay on my couch. It's been a week since my last pill and I have to say I feel worse today than ever. If it's the Pill, how long would it take to start feeling better? I had really hoped that this would be the answer. I used to be very fit and active and I can't believe that I might feel like this forever.

I just finished my 2nd pack of Loestrin 24, before that I had been on Enpresse (generic i believe) for about 3 years. A week after I started taking this pill I had spotting for a few days...and now I haven't gotten my period at all, not at the end of either pack. I called my gyno yesterday and he asked if I felt anything abnormal and when I said no he said that if I don't get it at the end of this new pack to call him back. I took a pregnancy test after the first month of not getting my period and it came out negative (twice). I'm debating whether I should take another one since I didn't get it yet again...has anyone else stopped getting their period?

I'm 46 and been on the Mirena IUD for 5 yrs this Oct'08! It's been great for past the 1st couple of months of extreme headaches and hit-or-miss flow.
I've enjoyed 4.5 yrs. of either no period or slight bleeding each month.
I worked better than the Depo because I didn't have to go get a shot every 3 months (or whatever the procedure is) and more convenient than the Sponge!
I was able to attend Grad School, work and be a single mom w/o PMS, cramps or heavy bleeding. I very rarely used tampons---just slim maxi pads.
However, now that I'm ready to take it out sometime b4 the Oct'08 deadline I'm starting to have a lot of those annoying symptoms I experienced when I 1st got the Mirena inserted: extreme headaches, body aches, slight nausea.
I don't think I'm pregnant because my beau is "fixed" but I have to be realistic in keeping in mind that anything is possible---he may have one good sperm left and I may be in that .01% risk of pregnancy.
I plan to go to the doctor next week to find out what's happening now that my 5 yr. Mirena is about to expire.

I've gotten Kenalog injections for years (probably 100 injections over the years... all in my face) for cystic acne and never, not once, had any side effects from it. It made my worst cysts literally disappear overnight. It was a God send for me. I'm 46 and still get the damned things under my skin. I've moved, so I need to find a local dermatologist who does these injections.

I’m 46 and have been newly diagnosed with high BP (132/92). I’m taking LISINOPRIL, 10mg. My only symptom at this time is, ear congestion/head fullness. I have also felt a little nauseated at times. This is day 2; my expectations are positive. I’m hoping the side affects won’t become more serious; such as the testimonials I’ve read so far. Good luck to the rest of you…

My Mother was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis 30 years ago. She has been on prednisone at low doses since then. About 3 years ago she started imagining things, and hallusinations. About 2 years ago her prednisone dose went up to 60mg a day due to a stroke of the optic eye nerve. She has since been tapering down, now at 15mg a day. But tapering down makes her arthritis more painful. She has developed diabetes, loss of sleep, loss of apetite, loss of muscle tone. When she gets bumped, it's a big opened gash, rather than just a bruise. With the higher dose she was more moody & would get angry easier. The hallucinations & paranoia continue & are making me more & more concerned. I haven't read about this in any of the stories. Has anyone else experienced this side effect? I spoke with her Rheumatologist who suggest a psychiatrist to prescribe anti-psychotic drugs. She's already on 11 pills a day, does she need another?
Please let me know if anyone has experienced this as well.
Thank you.

I'm 46 yr old female and have been taking Singulair for 5-7yrs. I have been treated for Asthma for the last 10 years. I was treated at first with pulmacort until I figured out it was causing a break out around my mouth after several years (4) of being on it. My Dr. switched me to Singulair. I never noticed any of these side effects, until after I've read some of yours. I work out 5 days a week( swim & cardio) and have noticed my ears sometimes bother me. I'm on the computer all day, but my right hand has some tingling occasionally and sometimes it's a conscious effort to open and close my hands. I went to this web site to find out the long term effects of this drug. I had my blood pressure taken today and normally it's around 100/60-70 and today it was 100/80. I know that's not terribly high, but for me it is. I only take two drugs nexium and singulair and was wondering if one could be causing a rise in my blood pressure. If anyone knows please advise. Thanks Sylvia

I have been on Yasmin about three years. I'm 46 and take it for PMS not birth control. I weigh 111 lbs. but am constantly bloated. Could this be a side effect? I'm seriously thinking of not continuing to take it. If I do go off it, how long does it take to get back to normal.

This may offer some hope to those who have received Kenalog injections that resulted in dents in the tissue. About 15 years ago, when I was a graduate student, I developed a mild case of cystic acne. By "mild," I mean that I would develop deep, painful cysts after eating or drinking certain foods, like red wine or chocolate (so my acne was somewhat controlable, depending on my diet). I received a few steroid injections (which I believe where Kenalog shots) that worked almost immediately. However, when I switched to a very expensive doctor in Princeton, NJ and asked him to zap a huge cyst, he gave me too much kenalog and I was left with a nice indentation right smack in the middle of my forehead! It was very upsetting, to say the least. When I called him, he assured me that the dent would fill in on its own. And guess what? It did - but it took a while. After a year, it was not as noticeable and as more time passed it was not noticeable *at all*. However, I will say that 15 years later, I can still put my finger on where the dent used to be and I can feel a slight indentation. Also, the skin over the indentation recently seems to be a bit more wrinkled than the rest of my forehead which is quite smooth (I'm 46 so it may just be normal ageing). Anyway, after my lovely kenalog experience, I stayed away from these injections. And after I swore off all chocolate, tea, and red wine, my cystic acne disappeared on its own.

I had the mirena inserted about a year and a half ago. Since then I have gained 20 pounds. I have never had to fight weight gain. I'v been a stable 130 for probably 10 years. Never had to worry about what I ate or when I ate. Now, I'm eating salad, low fat stuff, fat free stuff and exercising. Of course that's all good for me, but, if I hadn't gained the 20 pounds, I would never have to eat this stuff. I've been meeting with a dietician and everything. It's been 4 1/2 weeks and I haven't lost a pound. My GYN is going to do lab tests tomorrow to see if it's my hormones, or maybe perimenopausal. I'm 46 years old with 3 kids. If the tests come back negative, I'm going to have it taken out. Hopefully I'll be able to loose this 20 pounds. I feel huge. Other than that, I have had no problems with it. The insert process was a little painful, spotting for a few months, but nothing else. Good luck with the rest of you.
