10 days ago, my doctor switched me from Aciphex to Nexium. Within 30 hours, I was having severe nausea, painful acidic diarrhea, major abdominal cramping, headaches, muscle pain, and such severe reflux that I have gone through about half a bottle of liquid Maalox. I am not taking even 1 more of this pill.

Be very careful if you start this med.

I was prescribed Bactrim for a UTI and within one day started to experience severe lower abdominal pain -- feeling as if my entire lower abdomen, and around to the back, was caught in a vise. Not a stabbing pain, but a pressure-pain that would not let up. The next day the pain had moved up to the mid-abdomen and had become a burning, pressure-pain that I imagine might be what an ulcer might feel like. My stomach and abdomen seem or feel swollen, too. Maalox seems to help, but only offers a little relief and doesn't last long. A dose of fish oil seemed to help a little at bedtime last night. I wonder how long this will last and what mechanism of Bactrim could possibly cause this?

Saw Levaquin on the news yesterday. I was very pleased to see that they are putting a warning on this med. I thought it was just me with a problem with Levaquin. I have allergies to antibiotics anyways so I attributed my problems to just another allergic reaction to an antibiotic. Wow!
I took Levaquin in April 3 years ago for a respiratory infection of some kind. I then had the same experience I have with allergies where my tongue felt swollen. I called the nurse and she told me to take the next dose anyway. I did so and my chest/esophagus felt like it was on fire. I couldn't breathe. I went into the Emergency room and they gave me a lidocaine/maalox combo that would take the pain away for a while and diagnosed me with reflux.
I went on some reflux medications later that caused more problems for digestion. The more we tried to solve it the more my system reacted. I ended up in the emergency room about 5 times that year. Two were for chest pain from the esophagus and two were from severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). I became allergic to many categories of food and lost down to 110 lbs. I went to naturopaths and other specialists and none of them could pinpoint any problems. I was tested for Celiac and had two upper GI and one lower GI that year alone, My Dr. bills totalled more than $5,000 for that year.
The next year I had given up. The only doctor that I would go to was the allergist and the new GI doctor I had found. I still worked but was in such severe pain that I did nothing but sleep when I got home. I cried and begged God for death or healing all night long. I was losing my hair in great handfuls. They put me on ativan and I became addicted to the stuff. I was allergic to most foods. I had a diet of about 6-10 foods that I would cook homemade and I would never eat out unless I knew what and how the food was prepared. I took vitamin c in very high doses and that took the pain away.
I slowly re-introduced food back to my system. Now I have a less restrictive diet but it still is limited. I am now allergic to all nuts, rice, sunflower seeds (sunflower oil is used in most potato chips), some other grains, and melons. I still have problems with legumes and some other foods.
It took 2 years for the pain to subside and I still have digestive problems with diarrhea on and off. I am fine just as long as the pain stays away. I don't mind being limited on my diet.
I had noticed that my legs and joints hurt during that time too- but the other pain was so severe and my diet was so limited that I attributed that to diet.
If there is a class action lawsuit on this stuff I would like to be involved.

i am amazed that doxycycline has given the SAME EXACT problems to other people. i never had side effects to any medication i ever took up until this point. I was on them for a week and on the 2 final nights I too took them right before sleeping and developed a case of esophigitis. I cant eat or sleep because it feels like i'm swallowing lumps that land in my stomach and burn. Even breathing ends up as burping that feels like its on fire. My throat feels swollen and eating solids is torture. Ive been so depressed over this, it makes me want to cry and not go to work because my head feels like i'm in a cloud. Past 24 hours i developed a fever and pain in the jaw/temple area but that might just be a flu going around. So i called the doctor who prescribed them to me for adult acne and says "you weren't supposed to take them before bed, sounds like you have esophagitis". Nice of him to tell me this prior to starting this medication. Im so worried these have caused permanent damage to my stomach that i'm going to suffer with forever. Have these symptoms gone away for anyone, and what helped you get through it if it has? also, how long? Maalox, Pepcid, and over the counter heartburn remedies dont seem to help. all i know is, doxycycline is the wrost drug ever and needs to be retired ASAP!

I was given 20 mg of Prednisone for 10 days for a rash and joint pain.
The pain went away and I felt great the rash got a little better. Two days ago I took my last pill. I woke up that night and my knees gave out. By morning I was great! Next night I woke with knee problem again had to slide down the stairs to the living room. I got to wondering if the knee thing could be associated with the Prednisone. I got on line and read all this terrible stuff. I am so Horrified! Today I am in pain like my body is bruised and my face is swollen a little. I have acid reflux as well. Non of this is typical for me. My knee thing is ok again, but I am just appalled! I have no MED insurance. I hope this isn't the beginning of worse things I am not taking that drug now. The Dr. didn't say I needed to taper...

I hope I have not damaged myself by taking this drug! My heart goes out to all of you! My question is - Why are the Dr.'s prescribing this terrible drug?

I took Doxycycline Hyclate one night before going to bed. Big mistake. It was still in my throat when I woke up the next morning. I assumed the pill would eventually go down on its own. Boy was I wrong. The pill was stuck in my throat for approximately 4 days. I finally called a local clinic and one of the nurses told me to take some maalox and drink warm water. The maalox helped the pill go down. I also tried goggling with warm salty water. Then two day later, I had a headache so I took a ibprophin and drunk some apple just about an hour later. I started feeling nausea and I had stomach pains for about 15-20 minutes. All of a sudden, I began to vomit apple juice. I took a nap and when I woke up, I ate lunch and I had no problem eating. I no longer felt the heartburn while eating. I didn't even feel the pill. I am so happy that the pill is gone. I guessing it was the acid that's in apple juice. If anyone is looking for advice on how to make it go down, I'm pretty sure you could skip most of the steps I took and just try drinking the apple juice.

Just recently, my pharmacist re-filled my Synthroid prescription with a substitute (Levothroid). After taking it for about a week, I started to have AWFUL stomach pains. I was constantly nauseous. I asked my doctor and he said it was probably just acid indigestion and to take some over the counter remedies. I started to take Maalox and Alka-Seltzer, but they only seemed to help for about 30 minutes to an hour before the pain came back again. I asked if it could have anything to do with the Levothroid and he simply said no (Grrrrr!). I switched back to the Synthroid and the pains went away within a couple weeks.

Outrageous anxiety! I feel like I'm crawling out of my skin and I didn't start feeling like this until I started taking the Zantac. My hands shake and I wake up having an anxiety or panic attack. This medication in not worth all this! I think I'll stick with the good ol' Pepto Bismol and Maalox!

This is merely time released Sudafed. You people on here who have all these crazy problems are ridiculous. If Pseudoephedrine is such a problem to these people, I dread what other simple drugs like aspirin or Maalox must do to you.
Anyone with half a brain knows that you need to drink lots of water with this drug. If you don't, you will encounter extreme dryness and head / bodyache. Just as well, it doesn't take a genius to read the common side effects of Pseudoephedrine before taking the drug. The things people are reporting here are typical common side effects. What is this, 'the uninformed alarmists' forum or what?!

I was prescribed Levaquin for a sinus infection. I finished my last pill (10 days worth) Sunday (3 days ago). On Friday (5 days ago), I woke up with discomfort - dull pain in my stomach (solar plexus area) which has continued. On Sunday, I took Maalox and got diarreah. Since Sunday, I have experienced alot of gurgline, as well as, dull pain in stomach, upper and lower intestines. It seems to improve temporarily when I eat something. This morning (Wednesday) I had painful gas. I just called my gastro doctor and he can't see me for 2 weeks. Help!

I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience.I am NOW on ARMOUR THYROID...a natural product and feel NORMAL for the first time in three years.
