Struggling with a sinus infection that threatened to bore into my brain, resulting, ultimately, in seizures and death, I've been taking Levaquin now for three days. I'm experiencing anxiety and sleeplessness, however, it's not from the medication. It's from all the hyperbole on the internet.

Look, I understand that many have had adverse reactions to this medication. One dose of penicillin can kill you without warning. At anytime. No warning. I suspect that few of those labellings Levaquin "poison" would ever bother to consider that - or anything else. All wrapped up in your misery, you spout off with rhetoric that is really better left to lawyers and politicians.

If you were uninformed of the possible side-effects of this medication, blame your doctor. I see that the last post here is dated November 2007, and the bottom of this first page takes us to October 2006. Perhaps one could take a bit of responsibility for oneself and do some research on one's own before popping a pill handed out by a disinterested physician. This information is out there - and yes, your doctor could have seen it, too. But he didn't bother, did he? Neither did you.

So, yes, with my first dose, and despite the impact drill driving through my eye-socket, I waited for the seizures, swelling and signs of imminent demise. Nothing. Sorry. Oh, my sinuses feel better, I don't have a brain infection, and so I won't die frothing at the mouth on my living room floor.

I'm sorry you feel bad - and if you hadn't run off at the mouth calling what may be one of the last effective antibiotics "poison", I might mean that with some sincerity. Oh, and lest you forget, antibiotics are poison by definition - the idea being that they affect/poison/kill the source more than they do the host.

So let's stop the hyperbole, and simply say you had a bad reaction to this medication. Not everyone does. Your option might have been to skip the doctor and the meds altogether, and see how you'd fare. But that would leave the responsibility, and the blame, all on you, then, wouldn't it? Far better to spread it around some.

Wow. OK. Yesterday I was prescribed Levaquin for an upper respiratory infection. Once I re ceived the medication I quickly looked it up and found this review board. My first reaction was yea, yea, yea. Well now I will say this YEA YEA YEA. I took it before bedtime. What a complete and utter nightmere. I thought the Dr. made a mistake and prscribed me some bad LSD. I had the worst nightmeres I have ever had in my entire life. It was brutal. Each time waking up thinking it was true. Even awake drapes appeared to be blowing from the wind when the windows were shut. This morning I must say that my chest feels a bit better but my lower back seems stiff. I have nine more doses of this left and will continue on. Just a confirmation that this stuff is wicked. Thanks for reading,

My doctor prescribed Lisinopril 20/25 in 2003 when my bp was 180/110. In September of 2006, I experienced a full blown panic attack. It was shortly after I had my left knee replaced in August. After this panic experience, I never seemed to recover from anxiety, and heart palpitations that were so crazy that I told my husband that I felt like I had just run a race. I experienced these palpitations every day and when they started, I started getting anxious. I thought that I was having these sensations because I was weak from the surgery. I experienced lightheadedness, and extreme fatigue, and blamed everything except the Lisinopril. My appetite has been poor and I force myself to eat only because I have to in order to survive Also, after the September panic attack, I felt like I was disconnected from reality - like someone posted earlier, a feeling like I was not all there. Awful feeling! A few months before these feelings, my present doctor (not the one who had prescribed the Lisinopril) told me to cut the Lisinopril in half because my bp was quite low. I did that but I still had the palpitations, etc. I never for one minute thought the Lisinopril was the culprit. Then about two months ago, I had a blood draw and it came up with a high level of potassium. It seemed at first that the lab had made a mistake, however, in a recent draw, I not only had an elevated level of potassium, but the calcium was elevated as well. My doctor called and told me to stop the Lisinopril. This is when I began to search the web for side effects, etc. Like a dumbbell, I never thought to question the Lisinopril. I have been off it three days now and the palpitations have lessened, however, I am still not back to my normal self but I hope that these effects will eventually go away. I have total empathy for all of the folks out there who have suffered these horrible, debilatating side effects.

I was on Prednisone for about 4 weeks. 60mg/day first 2 weeks, followed by 40mg/day last 2 weeks. My dose was extremely high (only weighing 105lbs in the beginning) and i had extreme side effects! I gained 20lbs in the first week and a half, my face doubled in size, very depressed, and i got to the point i could only walk a couple of feet then the pain was just to intense! the last time i went to the doctor he didn't quite believe the extent of my side effects and - i quote "well your only on 10's just imagine if you had to take 40mg a day!" so i took my new scrip to the pharmacy and noticed that the new bottle said 20mg. i told the pharmacist that this is wrong i'm suppose to be taking 10mg twice a day.!? he then informs me i must be wrong - that i've always been on 20's (i started with 3 a day then worked down to 2 a day, now i was suppose to work down to one a day over the next 2 weeks!) i then call my dr and he tells me he made a mistake and we'll have to figure it out next week when i'm scheduled and to continue what i was taking!!! well if any of you have had the muscle pain from this drug its almost worse then having the problem you started with! (although i probably wouldn't have lived without it, it was driving me to a point that dying almost seemed better!) well i completely quit the day i found out i was taking double the dose my dr thought i was taking and it has been a month and a half since then. i still have constant muscle pain, stomach pain, and practically no immune system anymore! i don't know how long this will last....but i really hope it ends soon!!

I'm posting this for nikieis, who's husband has been having problems with the Sulfameth. The Doctor and the Walgreens Pharmacist that you spoke to made a mistake, rare side effects of Sulfameth are cold sores, persistent sore throat and fever. I'm surprised that the Walgreens Pharmacist made such a mistake because they usually are so efficient, and if a patient complains about a symptom they will look up in their computer to see the possible side effects - both common and rare. If you still have the Walgreens pick-up slip, it will have a drawing of the drug as well as a description so that there are no possible mistakes. Also, on the pick-up slip is a list which describes the drug, what its for, how to use the medicine, cautions, possible side effect, rare side effect and effect to contact you Doctor immediately for. I would also think that if the information is on the packing slip, that the Walgreens website would have all the possible side effects and cautions. so Patients can look them up if they want to be informed about the medication.
I hope that your husband has recovered and is feeling better.

I'm so glad I found this web site.
My 5 yo son's pediatrician put him on Singulair three weeks ago to help with mild asthma/seasonal allergies. Two days after starting the drug, he began to hit himself, and say he was stupid and a loser whenever he made a mistake. He is NOT the child who would naturally do these things, he is always the first one to tell you how great and smart he is. He has also had uncontrollable screaming rages since starting the drug. one lasted 45 minutes. He stood at the top of the stairs and howled and screamed last night until he was sweaty and red, and said "help me mom, I can't stop!". It was frightening. I went on the web afterwards to check for side effects and found this site, which mentioned other side effects he has had that I hadn't attributed to the drug:
He has been getting hives after playing outside. I had attributed it to allergies, although it has never happened before. He has developed sores in and around his mouth, and has pains in his legs that I thought were growing pains. He is officially off of the medication, and I called his pharmacist and doctor today to let them know why.

I am one of those who take Effexor XR 150mg as part of a pain management regimen, as opposed to depression. I've had two major back surgeries that left me with arthritis and some internal scarring that causes acute, long-term back pain. Apparently, certain ani-depressants are also starting to be used to treat pain in combination with drugs like Vioxx and Ultram.

I have been on Effexor for nearly two years now. I never noticed any side effects until about a year ago when I thought I was coming down with the flu. My symptoms got steadily worse until I started to fear meningitis or even West Nile virus. I had terrible head and neck ache, neausea and dizzyness. It wasn't until I went to my pain management doctor that we figured out my symptoms started about the same time I had forgotten to take my Effexor and when I started taking over the counter cold medicine I had decided to stop taking some of my meds since I was unsure of the interactions. This turned out to be the wrong idea with the Effexor.

I was suffering from seratonin withdrawals and by the time I saw my doctor I was nearly passing out on the floor. They had neglected to tell me NOT to stop taking the Effexor. Now, I notice that if I miss a dose by even a couple of hours, I start to get dizzy and a headache.

Conversely, on a recent international trip, with jet lag I made a mistake in the time difference and took two doses within 12 hours of each other. Again, I had many of the same symptoms, but this time, even when I waited an entire 24 hours to let the extra drug exit my system, the symptoms pesisted for nearly a week before I stabilized again. Turns out the chemical(s) in Effexor have a half life of 7 days. Consequently, I had a hard time getting back on it without throwing everything out of balance.

I plan to have myself weaned off during my next visit with the doctor. I just feel fortunate that I have that option when so many others do not.

It works, but I grit my teeth when I take it and I made a mistake and took it before bed.....NO REST! Take it in the morning and the sleeplessness effects aren't as bad.

I began taking gabitril several months ago to get off remeron which I took at night for sleep. It helped a bit but I felt drugged in the morning. I had gone up to 6 mg. Then last week, I made a mistake in meds and took 12 mgs during the afternoon thinking I was taking my thryroid pills which look just like the gabitril. I thought I was going to die. I became completely disoriented. I tried to look at a phone number to call someone but couldn't figure out how to do it. I coudn't rmember anything. My husband called from out of town and asked for our neighbors # and all I could do was give him my #. I couldn't talk. I just kept saying, huh? huh? He called the paramedics and they took me to the ER. It lasted about 4-5 hrs. Horrible. If you take it, make sure you start VERY low. It was a mistake I will NEVER make again. And I'm very careful about these things.
