I started out exhausted and dizzy as I was upping the dose for the first 3 weeks and then magically all of my pain was gone! I have chronic back pain due to L5/S1 disc removal, bulging discs and degenerative disc disease. Everything was great until I got my period and it started for 1 day and stopped w/mild spotting (that is not normal) the Dr. suggested I was pregnant when I KNEW that I wasn't. After the 4th week on the medication my hair started falling out. 1st more strands than normal and now by the handful! It is obviously thinning. Has anyone experienced this? Is the follicle permanently damaged by the chemicals? I've since weaned myself off the medicine and am in complete pain again. This seems to be one of the rarer side effects of this medication. Has anyone experienced this?

I'm so happy I found this site. I've been thinking I'm crazy or just getting old for the last 3 years while on Yasmin. I started taking it at age 29 and almost immediately after started having mood swings, extreme irritability and depression. I had previously been on Ortho Tri Cyclen and the Ortho Cyclen before Yasmin and was on them for MANY years and never had one side effect. I only switched in the first place because I like to have very very few periods and I run all my active pills together to forgo periods very often and I was having breakthrough on the Cyclen. Hence, the Yasmin trial.

I'm actually a doctor (which is why I CANNOT have frequent periods with all the accompanying issues), but I didn't even realize the possible connection between IBS and Yasmin. This needs to be studied and taken seriously. I never once had IBS symptoms until a few months after starting Yasmin. Now, 3 years later I have almost constatnt trouble, to the point everytime I eat I run for the bathroom, yet my weight has never been higher. I asked a GYN friend at work if they could be related and she said definitely no, but reading all of these "real life" examples, coupled with my own experience has made me think otherwise. Often, the symptoms will occur shortly after taking the pill, even when I haven't yet eaten breakfast. It's crazy!!

I'm going to switch either back to Ortho Cyclen or to something new ASAP and will report back. I'm both excited at the thought that my "IBS" might really be Yasmin related but also scared that it might not go away and therefore might really be IBS. I'll report back... It honestly never entered my mind that all of it could be the Yasmin. I had just moved, started a new job in a town I hate and I thought it was all stress related.

I've also had an interesting side effect no one has mentioned yet- my hair texture has dramatically changed. It isn't falling out, but has gone from VERY curly with a nice soft spiral curl pattern to very dry, straight and hard to manage. Nothing else has changed and now I'm wondering if it's not the DRSP. If pergnant women can have hair changes, why not women on the pill?? It's all hormones.

As always with a drug, there are always possible side effects. No one drug is perfect, and humans are so complex in their make up and they way they process drugs. Therefore, please don't judge your family docs or GYNs too harshly as not even the best doctor in the world can predict every side effect.

i started taking adderall almost 2 years ago. i didn't have any medical problems, for some stupid reason, out of curiosity i guess, i decided to take one of my daughters pills to see what they do. i know how i was before that night. 225 pounds, slept all day, never wanted to do anything, not even my hair, depressed, and never any energy.

that night, with only half of her dose, i think i got more done than i have in 5 years, but not just that, i was happy!! the feeling of crying for no reason magically dissappeared. after years and years of trying every single anti-depressants out there, it was sitting here in my medicine cabinet all along. i talked to our family doctor and asked him to prescribe me too, that it helped me get things done and i feel happy for once. so he did.

that was august of 2004, it is now feb 2006, not even 2 years later and i have a lot to be thankful for, but i have paid alot of prices

by the end of the first year of my prescription, i have lost 95 pounds. woohoo, but not in a good way, i think i lost the majority of it within the first 6 months, people and my family thought i was on crack, by august of last year i became vitamin A deficiant, i have acne so bad, and they don't heal because of the vitamin deficancy, and the ones that did, left the worst huge red scars and lumps. but the major side effect was this january i had to have my gall bladder out because of gall stones which is related to the medication side effects

i have been to court 3 times this year for not paying bills, because i get so into other things that i can't tear myself away from them

i sleep about 3-5 hours a day, by friday i am exhausted that i just don't want to do anything with my family

but the truth is that after all of this, i do't think i would change a thing. just for the fact i'm not a big fat slob anymore, i don't lay in bed all day and eat box after box of twinkies

i don't think i will ever give it up unless i definatly have to just for the fact, on the days that i run out and don't have the money to get my script refilled, i see how i really am, and i never want to feel like that again

in certain ways this was my miracle drug, it was a cure for alot of my problems, i guess my suggestion to anyone out there, is to make yourself aware of what is changing within yourself

I did not suspect Lipitor as the cause for my shoulder pain and rash on my leg. I've been taking Lipitor for couple of years and over time both my shoulders were so painful that the doctors (2) said I had inflammation and possible muscle tears. Put me on antiinflammatory pills and eventually gave me cortisone shots in both shoulders. During this time I continued to take Lipitor. I went on a 2 week vacation to Mexico and forgot to take the Lipitor with me and I didn't have a prescription to get more in Mexico (legally) so I did without. Magically during my second week without Lipitor, my pain started to subside in both shoulders and the rash eased up. I have been off Lipitor for 1 month now and my shoulders are almost back to normal and rash has stayed away. I am convinced it is the side effects from Lipitor. I encourage all to see their doctors regarding going on another form of Statin. I myself have started taking some liquid glucosamine (with condroitin, MSM, and Colegen) that I got at Costco, Vitamin E, and Fish Oil capsules. Not sure about my cholesterol but the pain is almost all gone and improving daily. Good luck to all who are dealing with the side effects of Lipitor. This is my theory and I'm sticking to it.
