Major mood symptoms and conditions

I experienced severe chest pains and major mood swings...shortness of breath..12 days i was on it and when i called my obgyn - they said take the ring out and go to the ER. I immediately went to ER...I work at a hospital - so that got me in quicker..the ER doc did a cat scan, ekg, blood work and chest xray - thank god nothing showed up...This birth control was NOT for me and should be taken off the market.

I have been on Methotrexate for about 1 year to treat RA. It has worked great for pain BUT I have noticed a lot of things going on that I've simply contributed to life. I have severe headaches, dizziness, extreme fatigue and major mood swings (depression and anxiety). I've seen some things posted on the internet about these being side effects. I am going to talk to my RA doctor and see if there is something we can do. I have been so bothered by these symptoms that I would just about prefer the pain to the constant feelings of irritability and depression. What are some other medications people are finding useful of RA with out the side effects????

I took Topamax 50 mg for about 2 months and experienced a change in menstrual bleeding. I wonder if Topamax effects progesterone levels. I had light spotting 5 days before period due for both months. This medication also made me very depressed and angry. I quit taking it about 5 days ago and felt the depression lift on the 2nd day after stopping the medication. This was my 2nd round for Topamax. My first time taking it I worked up to 100mg and lost 15 lbs in just a few weeks. I had no appetite. I also go very sick with a respiratory infection and dry coughing. I had menstrual problems with the first round too but didn't figure out if may be the Topamax until my 2nd round. It did help my migraines significantly. But I'm uncertain how if potentially messes up menstrual cycle. The warnings for the medication says "menstrual problems" but doesn't go into detail. Anyone else have menstrual problems.

I have been on Yasmin for 2 years now. It is the only BC I have ever been on and have LOVED it up until about 3 months ago. All of a sudden I started having heart palpitations, sever chest pains, extreme fatigue, very bloated in my stomach, low sex drive, pain and tingling in my arms and legs,dizziness, shortness of breath, trouble swallowing, weight gain and major mood swings! I went to the DR and they did an EKG (which was normal) Tested my blood (I now have a thyroid problem that I have never had before) and they did an ultrasound (Dr that I may have a murmur) on my heart and the results came back fine. So the DR prescribed me Synthroid for the thyroid problem and the DR said that should help me gain my energy back, loose some weight and would take care of the heart palpitations. The other symptoms he contributed to Stress (Panic Attacks) I have been on Synthroid for 5 weeks now and I don't feel any better in fact I feel worse!

This morning I seen a commercial for a lawsuit against Yaz or Yasmin. Well since I am non Yasmin I immediately did a search and came across this site. I have literally been sitting here all night reading all the comments from different women and now know what my problem is. My problem is YASMIN! I am not taking this anymore and have an appt with my Dr tomorrow to have them do whatever they need to do to see if I have any blockage or any other damage from using this pill. My chest pains and the tightness in my chest are so severe that it takes my breath away and I am only 24! I am not ready for children and don't want to deal with bad periods like I had before getting on the pill but I can not take this rise. PLEASE if you are on Yasmin please stop taking it immediately and call your doctor Your life could depend on it!! I am hoping like other people who have commented that after a few weeks of being off the pill that I will feel so much better. I hope I am getting off of it in time before I have done any further damage.

I got mirena birth control in June of 08 after I had my first daughter and I bled and bled and bled for over a year. I have had headaches, weight gain, that I can't lose for some reason. I'm overly tired all the time. I hardly have any energy. I have major mood swings. I'm depressed sometimes for no specific reason. It's uncomfortable to have sex. Most of the time i don't even want to have sex because my sex drive is very very low. I have had excessive amounts of white sometimes with a yellowish tint vaginal discharge. Abdominal pain, I've had some hair loss. But mostly just a lot of discharge. I haven't had any itching or anything with the discharge to indicate an infection except for very little yellowish tint to the excessive amount of discharge. But I have never bled so much or had so much discharge until I got the mirena birth control. I went to see my gyn ant the bleeding and he tried to give me bc piles to regulate my bleeding but my bleeding was regular my period came and went when it was suppose to but in between that time of he month I was still bleeding. I have finally stopped bleeding and it is now aug. 09 but I still have all the side effects above. I don't Know ether I should get it removed or not. And I'm only 18. I shouldn't be having these kinds of problems.

I'm 44 with 2 kids & started Loestrin 24 about 3 weeks ago. I just wanted to say that if you are experiencing any side effects, please keep in mind to give the pill AT LEAST 3 MONTHS for your body to get used to it. Your body has to adjust to the hormone level. I am already being treated for PMDD (extreme PMS resulting in major mood swings & depression) so I really don't want to mess with that situation since I have finally gotten that under control with a low dosage of Prozac. I feel fine now but started having long, heavy periods so I decided with my doctors guidance to try the Loestrin. If it doesn't work, I will consider ablation surgery since I don't want anymore kids. I have had some spotting & feelings of slightly more depression on the Loestrin but I will definitely give it 2 more months. Good luck to all and HANG IN THERE!! Since having mirena put in I have been a total bitch. I have major mood swings which has really put a strain on the relationship with my boyfriend. I have had hair loss, loss of appetite, major cramping on my right side, bad odor, discharge, and no sex drive at all. Intercourse is very painful. I am calling my dr in the morning to have it removed.

I would NOT recommend this pill to anyone. I was on Ortho for 15 yrs with no problems. I have been on Loestrin for a few weeks. I am typically very happy and upbeat, however since taking Loestrin I have had major mood swings and zero energy. I feel tired all of the time and I have headaches. I am going to stop taking this pill immediately.

I am 33 yrs old. One night I was sleeping and about 12am, I woke up with my heart racing and I was having a squeezing feeling in my chest. I went to the ER and my blood pressure was extremely high. However, when they were running tests on me, they found that I hadn't had a heart attack and I was diabetic. The doctor gave me a stack of prescriptions to start taking. A few months later I went to see a different doctor, one that accepts my discount plan, and he took me off everything but metformin and 5 mg/day lisinopril. Since that night, the beginning of March, I am not the same person. I am keeping my diabetes under control, and my blood glucose is always in normal range. My last A1C test was 5.8. However, I am to the point of paranoia concerning the dead tingling feeling that I have in my feet. It is very on and off. There one minute then gone the next. It's not a feeling of numbness, because I can feel the slightest touch. Now from very little research I have already come to a conclusion that its the lisinopril. THE COUGH is enough to make me depressed and moody on its own, but now I'm thinking that my major mood swings are also coming from this drug. I cry all the time because I am worried that the diabetes is effecting my feet and that is what the doctors tell most people. My doctor said that I haven't been diabetic long enough to worry about neuropathy and that the sensation in my feet could be from a million things. Then almost every website I've looked at so far has hardly anything good to say about Lisinopril. I want to stop taking it, but don't have the money to afford an expensive medicine. what should I do? My blood pressure is usually around 102/68-70

I started Loestrin 24 Fe about 6 months ago. The first month was pretty rough. I was nauseous all the time, had headaches and even had cramping. My biggest concern however were my major mood swings. I consider myself to be a pretty easy going person and when I started taking Loestrin I became angry and irritable pretty much all day. My boyfriend was literally begging me to switch birth controls. Well, I decided to duke it out and try it out for at least 3 months to see how things would go. My moods swings went away by the second cycle, the nausea stopped, and the cramping only occurred during my periods. I believe my breast size increased a bit as well. Unfortunately Loestrin did absolutely nothing for my acne. Hope this helped! And if anybody knows of another low dose birth control that can help me with my acne I'd greatly appreciate it!

I started taking zoloft about 2 years ago. I had to change to zoloft from paxil because it stopped working. I was put on it for being irritable and having major mood swings and anxiety.
While on zoloft I have had terrible thoughts about things that could go wrong. I turned into some sort of hypocondriac. I also would get horrible headaches and convinced myself that I had brain cancer. I also had little motivation to do anything. I couldn't last at a job for more than a couple months because I had no motivation to go to work. When i first started taking it I had a hard time falling asleep. After a couple of months my sleeping patterns became normal, and my headaches went away.
Recently I started taking birth control and my old symptoms flaired up again. I now can not sleep at night. I stay awake all night and sleep all day, and have a continuous headache.
Has anyone else had these problems or side effects?

I had my mirena inserted in November of 2008 and since that time I have had irregular periods. And by irregular I mean, lighter periods but for extreme lengths of time. Most of mine last from 7 to 14 days at a time and are only gone for about 20 to 25 days in between (if I am lucky). Up until about 2 months ago, that was the only real side effect I noticed. But then I got hit with intense migraines (the current one has lasted over a month now with little relief) a major breakout of acne both on my face & back....something I have never had before, major mood swings (violent at times) I have lost my temper with everyone and for no reason at all and then 10 mins later I am crying and (big deal for me) a semi-big weight gain (147 in November and 182 now) with no change in diet! So needless to say that even though the convenience of not having to take a pill daily and the cost I am saving is amazing........I can't say that it is worth my sanity or the lives I am affecting with my attitude! I think I will schedule to have it removed next week! Can anyone tell me if it hurts to have it removed?? I think it hurt putting it in so I am nervous to get it out!

I had my son a month after i turned eighteen, it was an unplanned pregnancy and after reading the pamphlet for mirena, it seemed like the perfect method of birth control since i frequently forgot to take the pill. I breastfed for 6 months and when the 7th month came around and i finally got my period. i had mirena inserted as soon as possible and bled for a whole month. after the bleeding stopped things were going fine for about a week, but just recently i've been really down on myself and having major mood swings lashing out on my boyfriend over the slightest things. After i cool down and say i'm sorry i'd think to myself ''what is wrong with me? am i suddenly bipolar?'' well it just dawned on me that it could possibly be side effects from the IUD so i looked up this page and found that i'm not alone. i'm not sure what i'm going to do from here on out considering i'm not ready for anymore children... but i'll definitely be talking to my doctor

My 12 yr old daughter has been taking Doxy for 1 1/2 months to clear her mild acne. I thought it was the wonder drug because after 3 weeks her skin looked so much better, BUT then her skin started declining again, I can see the acne coming back. She's been complaining of pretty bad stomach pain, nausea and dizziness. I have also noticed major mood swings. She is usually a very happy girl, but now she gets moody and anxious more often than not. She is highly allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide, so she can't use Proactive or any other product with the same ingredients. After reading this site I will stop giving her Doxy immediately! Has anybody found anything that works for acne?

I am 26 years old and I was diagnosed with endometriosis last year (2008). I had pain in my lower abdomen for years and doctors always told me nothing was wrong but I knew there was. Finally a doctor did an ultrasound and found a 7cm mass on my left ovary. I also had a slightly smaller mass on my right ovary. My doctor told me that he would need to do a lap to remove the masses and possibly remove my left ovary because he could hardly see any ovarian tissue on the ultrasound. Thank goodness when he did the lap I was able to keep but ovary but he told me that I had one of the worst cases of endo he had seen. My right ovary was stuck to the wall of my abdomen due to the endo and I even had endo on my bowel. He removed what he could but not all of it was removable. He suggested that I go on Lupron for 6 months to "shrink" the rest of the endo. I have been on Lupron for 3 months. I just went and got my second 3 month injection. I have had some side effects such as Headaches, Bone pain, Hot Flashes, Insomnia, Drowsiness, Increased appetite and major Mood Swings. All of which come and go. I try to stay active but I don't over do it. It seems to help with the joint pain. Most of my side effects were in the first 2 months of getting the injections. I am told all the time that everyone reacts differently to Lupron and there is a pill you can take to reduce the side effects of Lupron but it does reduce the effects of the Lupron so my doctor suggested that I not take it unless the side effects were unbearable. I don't remember what it is called but if you are one of those people having major side effects ask your doctor.

OKAY!!! after reading everyone comments about mirena I decided to tell yall about mine. I'm 19 years old, I recently had my daughter July of 2008. I got my mirena in at my 6 weeks appointment and had it ever since, since then I've had major mood swings, I'm always bitchy and always exhausted like i never get enough sleep. And every month I have the ovarian cyst which my doctor said it normal when your on the mirena and that every month I can feel them rupture which hurts like hell... And also before I had my daughter i weighed 125-127 and when i was pregnant with my daughter i only gained 10 pounds so I weighed around 130-135 NOW get this after having my daughter I weigh 148-150 and im only 5"1' and 19 years old I've never been so big in my life... not only that I have other side effects they are Poor memory, Lethargy Hair loss,
Weight gain around my stomach, Feeling constantly bloated. Agitation, and every time my fiancee touches me or wants to do something I don't want to its like I don't wanna have sex anymore and also get depressed and I get very very irritated with my fiancee to where I just want to pick my things and my daughter and get up and leave him its like his consistly getting on my nerves but after reading everyone input on it im calling my doctor and having it taking out.. thanks everyone for yall input.

I had the Mirena put in in September, 08. I have had strange periods or no periods since then. I have started getting acne. I have gained about 15 pounds regardless of a low calorie diet and exercise. I have had severe headaches for the past 2 weeks. Nothing will make them go away. I go to sleep with a headache and wake up with a headache. Besides that, anxiety/panic attacks set in about a month or so ago, and will not subside. I used to get them years ago, so I know how to work thru them, but I know the current ones are from the Mirena.I am very short tempered which I never was before. Major mood swings and a low sex drive are getting in the way of my relationship with my boyfriend. I am tired all the time, and have to take a nap or I can't survive the day. This also helps with my headaches. I feel terrible, because I feel I am not being the best mother to my 8 year old son and 18 month old daughter. I called my dr. today after reading all of your great information on here. I am getting this thing taken out so I can hopefully go back to normal.

My doctor is a good doctor she is a great listener. Medicine is a hit and miss process for one to undergo. Singular worked great to keep the asthma at bay. Yet, there was a down fall that my doctor did not expect. I was having major mood swings. Such as anger, sadness, depression. Once I added Singular, it didn't come until the second month. I know myself quite well I am funny and very loving. This change came like a thief in the night. I woke up one day not standing the sound of my family voices and felt angry. I was crying and feeling sad to the point I was just waiting for the next mood to come. I do know the difference us women have with moods. This was a different degree of a mood swing. I been threw ups and downs so life was not the problem. I notice this change and immediately told my doctor. But, also I was on my rescue inhaler and a steroid inhaler. I believe it became like a combine cocktail of drugs. This combination cause me to feel this way. I got off the steroid that I was taking and Singular. I notice in just two days I am more patient, happy and so is my family. My doctor has me on new meds now and hopefully this well work. Please, as soon as you feel different don't wait seek your doctor's advice immediately. Good luck to all who suffer from Asthma. May there be a cure one day. Thank You, S.

I just got this pill from my doctor today!!!!! but i am afraid to take it reading all these comments. I started birth control when I was 16. My doctor first gave me the orthro patch. I took it till I was 22 and had major mood swings depression and bad anger problem. Everyone thought it was just that I was a bitch and there was nothing I could do. I knew it had to be the birth control so I asked my doctor (a different doctor since I moved) and she said that the patch is very bad and doctors have now come to realize it puts to much of the hormone in your body. That is what was causing me to go insane. I then switched to the NuvaRing . IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! I had the same mood problems ( a little less dramatic) but I felt like the ring was cutting my insides. I could feel it everyday putting pressure inside me. It made me lose my sex drive and it even came out one time during sex which my fiancee found weird for a ring to pop out of me lol. Now today I went to the doctor to switch birth control again and she gave me Loestrin 24. I am kind of afraid to take this because everyone has problems and when I read all the comments it sounds like every possible birth control out this is making every women go completely insane. Any advice from someone would be good. Should I stay in the crazy birth control world and give this pill a shot or should I give up birth control all together?

wow I thought I was going crazy or dying of a weird disease until I foind this site. Mirena has in 2 months caused my headaches, hot flashes, mood, make that major, mood swings, and fat, I 've gained 15 ponds. I can't believe it is the mirena but I was just in the er for a ct scan for dizziness and wazy vision, nothing is wrong with me, my blood wok is normal, everything is great. I told the doctor and he said I should try taking anti depressants, I thought wow my brain is killing me, but nio, it is the Mirena, I am sure . I am 35 2 girls 2 and 6 and this is not normal. I don't care if it means condoms or whatever I want it out asap. Thank you mothers for being honest and No thank you Mirena for selling a dream that is a nightmare. It's too bad we can't prove it so more women don't have to suffer.

Thank You!!! I'm not the only one! I had the Mirena inserted in 2005,removed in Sept 2008. Painful cramping immediately that continued at odd times throughout time I had it. Bleeding for the first 4 months. Back Pain followed and landed me in the ER. At the ER I was told that I had blood in my urine. Antibiotics had no effect. Back pain continues today but is markedly less. Major mood swings leading to depression. Took Zolft at increasing doses with no effect. Never been prone to any of these before. Rages would come on over the littlest things. Extreme anxiety attacks leading into panic that left me completely irrational. Almost lost my husband and kids due to mood swings. Joint pain came then in my lower back and shoulders and wrists. Saw doctor, no reason ever found. Lumps showed up in my breasts that would swell and receed with my monthly cycle. Extreme sensitivity during sex with bleeding and cramping after. Cysts on my face and large acne bumps on my back that were so painful to the touch i could not even wear a bra. These spots took weeks to go away. Headaches that left me sick and weak on the couch seeing spots. Dr's insisted these symptoms were not related to my birth control.I had tons of fatigue but chalked that up to the depression. I also started having a lot of trouble with dryness in all of my mucus membranes. Even my eyes hurt. Over and over saw many dr's never could find what was wrong. This birth control nearly ruined my life and cost me three important years with my kids that i should have been at the top of my game. I have girlfriends who have received the mirena with almost exactly the same progression as me. I feel deceived by the listings in the information pamplets I received. I expected bleeding and slighter periods but never did they list these symptoms. I even looked at their website before I received it and they are not listed there either. I even had an argument with my gyno about having it removed because he knew of none of these side effects. I have seen a significant change since the removal. Mood swings down, energy back up. Kids say I'm like a whole new mom. Who knows how long this is going to negatively affect our bodies?

I suffered from major depression last spring. The worse in my life ever, with a lot of anxiety.
I have been on Effexor XR 75 mg for 6 months. My main problems are :
LOW SEX DRIVE 9could also be from the birth control pill), SHORT TERM MEMORY PROBLEMS (a bad one), DIZZINESS.
My doctor felt that i needed to increase to 150mg because she thought i still had problems (like lack of motivation and negative thoughts): we started by adding 37.5mg extra. By day 2 or 3 of this increase, I was waking up constantly during the night, and felt extremely agitated. Like I would crawl right out of my skin. I couldn't lie still and moved about a lot in my bed, especially my legs. By day 6 of this increase, my anxiety was SO BAD, I was back to nearly the same anxiety I had in the spring before starting treatment. BE CAREFUL about increasing your dosage. TELL SOMEONE to watch if your mood changes and to take you to the ER if necessary. thank goodness I didn't need to go.
I now take fish oil (omega 3) and within a couple months of that, I noticed that my anger/impulsive and concentration seemed better. I am also going off the birth control pill this month 9ortho tri cyclen lo). I brought it up to my GP, to a psychiatrist and to my opharmacist that I was depressed and could there be a link with the birth control pills and they all said "I don't think so."; "no", "very unlikely". Well my major depression, MAJOR MOOD FLUCTUATIONS, anxiety and ANGER control problems all started with the beginning of the birth control pill.

I inserted Mirena in July of 2008 and since then I have had a continuous period (don't know when it comes, don't know when it ends) which is brown blood and it smells terrible, very bad cramps, MAJOR mood swings, body aches, fatigue & I have ABSOLUTELY NO SEX DRIVE... one positive thing I will say is that I have noticed that my acne has pretty much disappeared. My husband definitely feels the string thing in there, in fact, he said it feels like a "razor"! I am a healthy 26 year old with 2 children, never had an issue with my sex drive prior to the IUD... I feel totally disconnected and I am highly considering having it removed.

I had mirena since 08/08 and I HATE it. I have had nothing but MAJOR mood swings, hot flashes, dizziness, insomnia, depression. I have put my husband and 3 and 2 year old's thru he** just so we don't have any more children right now. It is so not worth it. The pain during insertion was worse than my 35 hours of hard back labor. I had to be dilated 2 times to have it inserted, I was shaking, covered in sweat and sobbing by the time it was over. My poor husband just looked at me and said he was so sorry I went thru that. I am calling my doctor 1st thing in the morning and demanding that it be removed immediately. I am at the point that if I could find the strings I would pull it out myself. Don't get one, it is not worth it. I guess know on from the FDA had to get on inserted!

I was on the ring for 5 years with no problems. Toward the end I was having major mood swings; I would get angry or upset very easily. I also would experience occasional stomach discomfort, but not 100% sure that it was as a result of using the ring. It has been 10 months since I stopped using the ring. About two weeks after I quit using the ring I started having periods that would last anywhere from 14-20 days, and stop for 5-10 days. I've had blood tests and an ultra sound just a couple of months ago which came out negative. I've also tried Provera to help regulate my cycle, but that hasn't had much of an effect. I'm still experiencing extremely long periods (averaging 14-16 days long), and short lengths of time (averaging 7-10 days) of not having a period. I wish I never would have taken the NuvaRing.
