OK..... looks like this site deleted my links on my previous post on where you can go to view the video on IUD self removal. Actually, you really don't need to watch it... it's so easy. If you can feel your strings, grip them tightly and firmly with your fingers, and just pull gently for a few seconds. I didn't feel any pain at all, just slight pressure. Mine came out in about 10 seconds.
It's been 24 hours since I've removed mine. I cannot tell you how much better I feel. Normally, every morning when I first wake up I start feeling really irritable, I start bawling in the shower and can't stop... I even run late to work because I can't stop crying long enough to put my makeup on. Throughout the day my moods will fluctuate depending on what's going on and how other people around me influence them. Today has been totally different. This was the first morning in months where I woke up and showered without crying. I feel like I've been "cleansed," I don't feel my blood pressure boiling over from the slightest family disturbance... in fact my kids were screaming and chasing each other this morning and this was the first time I didn't jump up and scream at them and send them off to their rooms for an hour! I'm going to call my GP tomorrow and see what he says about coming off of my antidepressant, because I clearly don't need it now that the cause of my depression is gone.
Good luck to everyone out there.... maybe we can all get together and turn this bad into good and file a class action suit against this company. I'm really scared about what it could do to some of these women who have depression before they even get this product.... this is a pretty serious situation here.

I always had breakouts, but nothing too severe that a face wash and makeup couldn't handle. Then, about 2 months ago, it started to get really bad! I started breaking out along my jaw line, and neck. It slowly started to spread its way up my face. It was large, red, and very painful. My boyfriend notice that I wasn't my happy go lucky self anymore, due to the acne, and suggested I go to the Derm, his treat, since Im a waitress, with no insurance.
The Derm said I have a severe form of cystic acne, and prescribed me Doxycycline. I was so excited that I was gonna have my skin back, although not perfect, but better. I had formed what looked like bloodclots underneathe my skin, where Im guessing the cysts broken up. (pretty awful, right!)
First day I took it, no problem. I had picked it up after work, so its was later in the day, after of course, I ate. So, I figured the next morning, I would follow the directions to a "T" because I needed to have my skin back. BIG mistake!! DO NOT TAKE THIS ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! Wow!! What an awful feeling! I threw up for about 15 minutes. (not sure why they recommend you to do that anyway, your not supposed to take Tylenol on an empty stomach) But I felt much better, and continued my day.
Yesterday was my 5th day on the medicine, and I noticed that I was very "bitchy" ( my boyfriends exact words ) felt very irritated and moody. But, I can deal with it, its not that bad. Also, had a lump in my throat, but that went away in about 20 minutes. But, we went to the grocery store, and I noticed that my eyes were very dry, and would burn as if you were having a staring contest and would leave your eyes open without blinking. I also noticed that I felt a little dizzy, and my boyfriend said that I felt shaky. I have hypoglycemia, so I figured I was just hungry. But, Im pretty sure that its the medicine now, from those before me listed similar side effects.
Im hoping that I don't get other side effects like other people listed. That would make me stop taking it all together, and would send me marching back to the Derm, for another treatment.
I have noticed that in about a week, my cysts have reduced in size pretty good, and are healing pretty well. My bloodclots are all gone, and Im starting to feel like the beautiful woman I once was! It seems very promising, and I look forward to continuing my Doxycycline!

I am a 39 year old mother of two teenager daughters. I had my original Mirena inserted in July, 2002 due to extreme bleeding for many months. I would bleed for about 24 days out of every month and felt horrible. As I was only 32 years old at the time, my GYN did not want to perform a hysterectomy and suggested the Mirena. I bled for a couple of months after insertion, but shortly thereafter I had no bleeding and have had no period ever since. This is the side effect that is fantastic!

Shortly after having the Mirena inserted, my marriage fell apart and I was feeling very depressed, EXTREMELY EXHAUSTED and overall "crappy". I assumed that this was all due to my life circumstances. I gained significant weight in my mid-section, I had (and still have) constant headaches, I am always still very very tired, am dizzy, fuzzy-minded, blurred vision, achey, etc. etc. etc. I never once thought about the Mirena being the cause of any of these symptoms.

My doctor has checked my bloodwork numerous time to ensure my iron levels, etc. were okay as well as my thyroid - every time the results were normal so I thought it must all be in my head and all be due to me being somewhat depressed, etc. due to my marital breakdown.

I had my 2nd Mirena put in in December, 2009 as the first one was in for the full 5 years. It was a little painful getting it taken out and the new one put in, but for me the pain was worth it to continue to be period-free for another 5 years!

Recently I have been experiencing hot flashes and night sweats so I asked my doctor if I could be going through menopause. She ordered bloodwork to check my hormones and informed me last week that yes, in fact I am quite far into menopause!!! (remember, age 39)! Because I have not had a period in almost 6 years, I did have the early warning signs of menopause such as missed or irregular periods.

I wondered why I would be going through it so early so googled "Mirena and early menopause" which brought me to this site. When I started reading all the side effects, I wondered if it was maybe the Mirena that cause a lot my problems over the years and it wasn't in fact the dissolving of my marriage and change in life circumstances.

I now have to decide what to do. My doctor stated that I should (because of my young age) go on Hormone Replacement for quality of life. (I am close to my decision and believe that HRT is beneficial for me) - hopefully this will help with the terrible symptoms of menopause I have been having.

I am wondering if having the Mirena inserted had any part in accelerating my body into menopause. I am thinking of having it removed before starting HRT because even though the doctor told me that there is a very low hormone dosage in the Mirena, I don't want to over-do it with hormones as that could cause me even more problems. It would be amazing if I had it removed that I would feel the way I used to feel back 6 years ago (minus the husband)

FYI, before I had the Mirena inserted the first time I read and re-read the pamphlet which contained all the possible side effects, etc. But, as I stated above, my life changed dramatically very shortly after insertion so it never occurred to me that some of my problems may be related to the Mirena.

If this device does accelerate a woman's body into menopause, this should be well publicized as it would be tragic for young women who use this as a form of contraception early in their life to only find out later that they are no longer able to conceive due to their body going though "the change".

I had it put in in March 08 6 weeks after I had my daughter. Since the first month I was on it Ive never really been off my period for more than 2 weeks and in between my periods i have light spotting and it is really annoying. My face looks horrible , I too like a lot of you have terrible acne now I started using a new make up by Mac and felt this is what had to have caused my breakouts well I tossed out my expensive makeup and went to a mineral make up thinking it was causing my breakouts well that was 6 months ago and NO IMPROVEMENT! so today I decided that I would get to the root of the problem and it had run across my mind that it may be due to the Mirena but never would I have thought so many people have had to deal with my same exact symptoms , besides the bad acne I'm also always tired, depressed at times very easy to cry about absolutely nothing! i almost sound like a nutcase I am going to call first thing tomorrow and get this thing out of me I've also had to deal with pain after sex severe laying on the floor in the bathroom type pain what a nightmare and i am being totally honest no exaggeration here

Folks, please stay away from this poison! I started taking Levaquin as prescribed for the thunderbolt-like strike of a prostate infection. The infection hit at around 8 PM on Friday, took the first 500 mg Levaquin Saturday at 10 AM. Later that day, after having taken only one dose, I started having difficult to breathe and my speech became faulty, as I could not naturally coordinate breathing with speaking (later I learned that I was having, and still have, diaphragm spasms.) In addition to that, I suffered for the next couple of days from intense dizziness, extreme difficulty in walking, fatigue, depression, anxiety, and 100% loss of appetite (could not ingest any solid food for two days, period). Still not connecting the dots, I took the second pill from hell on Sunday at 10 AM. By Monday morning I had read enough info on this site to know better and not take the third dose. I realized that, at the rate my breathing was deteriorating, things would get pretty grim very soon. I showed up in my doctor's office unannounced and was told right away to switch to Cipro. One of the problems I see with detecting a medication's side effects is one's ability to distinguish them from the actual symptoms of the disease: a good example are the intense chills and shivering associated with fever, but apparently much more intense and lasting long after the fever is gone when provoked by Levaquin. Please question your doctor if he/she prescribes this poison from hell to you and recommend that friends do the same.

I had the Mirena put in in March or April (can't remember which one) of 2007. It was absolutely the worst pain I had felt in my life when it went in, but by the end of the day I was fine. (I had to walk home from the Planned Parenthood and could barely do it, the pain was so bad at the time.) I didn't notice any side effects, or at least nothing that I immediately linked to the Mirena. I read the list of side effects, but nothing was listed as "severe" and I had no idea that these side effects were so common and so intense.

By summer I was a wreck emotionally. I thought it was due to the stress of my senior year of college. I visited my boyfriend over winter break and snapped at him for every little thing he did or said. I actually threw rocks at him, punched him, etc., and yelled at him ALL THE TIME. I was also crying almost every day by that point. The acne was beginning but it wasn't too bad yet, just a few large cysts on my face, mostly on my chin, but I didn't think that it was connected to the IUD.

By the end of the summer that relationship was over due to my extreme moodiness (this was a long-term relationship and I had never been moody like that before), depression, lightning-quick temper, etc. The acne was still on my face and slowly but surely getting worse. I was still moody and cried all the time.

Fast-forward a year, and by fall 2008 the acne was taking over my face. I was embarrassed to go out. I spent three hundred dollars on makeup to try to cover it up. I think I still have scars on my chin, but it's hard to tell through the cysts that remain. Like many women who have posted here and elsewhere online, my acne was disgusting: giant, red, painful cysts that never came to a head and took weeks to go away. They didn't respond to any acne medication. I saw a dermatologist and she told me it was probably my toothpaste (my toothpaste causes acne on my forehead??) and told me to take antibiotics. Of course that didn't work. I was also a complete train wreck emotionally. I was in a new relationship but continued the same behaviors as in the previous relationship post-Mirena: short temper, yelling, overreacting to minor things, sometimes physical violence because I just got SO ANGRY with little or no provocation. There were a few months when I literally cried every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I thought it was due to the stressful things that were going on in my life and didn't even imagine it could be related to the Mirena.

A few days ago, on December 30, 2008, I was so fed up with the acne that I was googling, and I knew that sometimes acne can have hormonal causes. So I googled "Mirena acne" and came across this message board and many others, all of them basically saying the same thing. I showed my current boyfriend (who on several occasions almost broke up with me because of my moody, irrational behavior that I now know was caused by the Mirena!) what all of you and the women on the other boards had written, and I called to see how quickly I could get the thing taken out. On the phone with the insurance company, I started crying when she said I would probably have to wait three weeks to have it removed. I wept for a long time and then the next day I went straight into the urgent care center, where I again ended up crying. After much begging and looking completely pathetic, they finally agreed to take it out, and since then, I have felt five thousand million percent better. I haven't cried or felt like crying since I had it removed, and I haven't been moody or irritable or angry or quick-tempered. My boyfriend has said and done things that I know would have made me cry or want to punch him in the face, and I haven't reacted in either of those ways since the Mirena has been out of my body. I actually thought it would take a while for the hormones to get out of my body, but I feel SO MUCH BETTER already.

It took a long time for these symptoms to show up for me, and a long time for me to realize what was causing them. For anyone who is considering the Mirena, I would strongly encourage you to try the Paragard or one of the other non-hormonal methods. I actually had used the Nuvaring for a while too, and that one wasn't as bad as this. The Mirena has been HELL. The only positive side effect I had from it was that my periods got really light, to the point that I didn't have to use tampons or really much of anything beyond pantiliners. I'm scared to try the Paragard because it's supposed to make your periods much heavier, and also because the Mirena was such a hellish contraption. Other effects I've had that may or may not be due to the Mirena are: constipation, though this may have been due to the stress of living overseas; fatigue; dizziness, like I'm going to pass out and/or fall over if I stand up too quickly; inability to lose weight unless I am literally starving.

DO NOT TAKE THIS POISON!! I have spent the last 4 years dealing with
adverse side effects of this medication. I have central nervous system damage, digestive disorders, anxiety, panic attacks, dizziness, achiness-it feels like a really really bad flu. My dad who is a doctor didn't believe that Levaquin was the cause at first however he had a chemist look up the compound makeup and was told to never prescribe this or any other fluoroquinolone again (cipro, avelox, etc!) Side effects can last long after you finish this medication. Also animals can get this stuff so it can be in the meat you eat which will make you feel worse or it could kill your beloved pets. Do your research. Warn friends and family-even strangers. Make a mediwatch report. Helpful sites if you are dealing with poisoning.
There is also a yahoo group.

I have been on Yasmin twice now, with a 6 month break while using Yaz (got free samples). The first time was for about 2 years. Now it's been 5 or 6 months. Both times, I have had the following side effects, but did not realize they were the pills fault, until I started taking it again -- and noticed the trend. These side effects are particularly bad the first 3-4 months of Yasmin, and then my hormones seem to level out...

1. Weight gain. I have gained 5 pounds since restarting Yasmin this summer. I am dieting and exercising, and I think that if I weren't fighting as hard as I am, my weight gain would be significantly higher.
2. Facial and random body hair. Ok, gross and embarrassing. I have had random chin hair pop up, and one strange chest hair that comes right before my period. These were not an issue while on Yaz, or after my body became accustomed to Yasmin last time. I am not normally a hairy woman. Seriously!
3. Pimples. These were the worst pimples I have EVER gotten, and had to visit a dermatologist for serious medicine to counter my acne. I literally have ACNE SCARS from the huge, severe cystic acne that I have while on this pill. I do not normally wear makeup, but no makeup could cover these HUGE zits! This is awful for the first 3-4 months, and my skin flairs up on the 3rd and 4th week of the pill still. People didn't even know they were pimples, as they were so big and red. Beyond pimple size. I don't know how to explain this well enough -- literally quarter sized. I am currently on my last week of pills for the month (week before period) and have a large cystic pimple that doesn't even look like a zit, because of it's size!
4. Heavy, inconsistent periods. My period last month lasted 4-5 days (about average for me). I bled through tampons and actually had to double up. For example, I changed my tampon right before I left the house for work one day. I got to work (30 minutes) and had bled through my heavy tampon, panty liner, underwear, and into my jeans. This is NOT acceptable!
5. Grumpiness. Yes, I'm a bit grumpier and more emotional than usual, but counter that with increased exercise (also to fight the weight gain).
6. Sex drive. Point blank: I have not had an orgasm since being on this pill. I'm a married woman, and that would be nice to have once in a while.

What shall I do about this? Nothing. Apparently Yasmin is supposed to be the best pill out there for weight gain, acne, and facial hair. So, they are telling me that other pills would be even worse...? Does ANYONE have a useful suggestion for a new birth control pill that will have fewer side effects?

34 with a diagnosis of a Hormonal Imbalace which consisted of the following symptoms: Vaginal dryness, acne and mood swings.

First pill was Valette 30mg which made me sick to my stomach. I was on that for a week. Then switched to Loette 20mg, which was good, but the state health care doesn't subsidize the medication. I then switched to Nordette which is the same as Loette, but a stronger form of 30mg and experienced rashes with Nordette and I believe Nordette lowered my immune system in which I caught the Herpes Simplex One on my lips. Since I have contracted the virus on my lips, I have not be able to get the virus to suppress itself as I believe my immune system is being affected by the pill.

I was then advised to switch over to Yasmin because my other doctor, which I have many doctors that I see as having a second opinion is important to me, said that Yasmin was the best pill for my health issues. Since being on Yasmin, I have experienced extreme skin rashes on my face, neck, chest, arms and hands, which itches like crazy.

Since I was on Nordette, wearing makeup causes me to get eczema on my eyes and has been consistent since being on Yasmin. So I cannot wear any makeup unless I am going out for the night and then have to remove it the moment I get home and treat my eyes with Hydrozol.

I am concerned with the side effects of the Yasmin and will be consulting with a different doctor about an alternative hormonal imbalance treatment with less side effects. To summarize my experience, Yasmin is causing me very itchy skin rashes all over my upper body and I will probably stop taking it as soon as I see my doctor.

The only good things that have come out of being on the various pills is my skin acne is gone and my vaginal dryness is gone. My libido is still kicking, but its not worth the rashes.

I am 32 years old, and still have acne. I have been taking it for almost 14 years now. I know that Lamictal causes skin rashes. I asked my neurologist if Lamictal causes acne. He said no. I will never be able to get rid of acne, as long as I keep taking it. I have been seizure-free for over 2.5 years now. Dad won't let me get off of it, and be on primidone only. It's more important to keep driving seizure-free, than to have clear skin.

I'm so happy I found this site. I was on Ovcon 25 for 3 years and was given Femcon last week at my annual exam and was told it was the same makeup as Ovcon. I can't believe the effect its had on my body after only 7 days. I'm an extremely happy, sexually active young woman and I have been crying at everything and anything and have NO sex drive. I've been on the pill consistently for over 10 years and have never had side effects like this. Nausea, fatigue, mood swings and anxiety are other strong side effects that I've noticed. I'm stopping Femcom today and will wait until next month to start my old brand. My boyfriend, friends, and family will be so thankful!

Hi my name is Jessica an I was diagnosed with Chrohn's on 3/4/08. I started with the Entcort for two weeks and that did nothing for all the pain and suffering that I had been going through since November. The put me on Prednisone at 40mg a day. I have been on it for about 3 weeks. After 3 day I noticed the moon face because I had lost so much weight because of being so sick for so long. I still hardly eat and am still losing weight. I can't sleep more then 3 hours at a time unless I take something to strong enough to help me fall asleep and if I sleep for more then 5 hours I will be up for the next 20 before I can even try to lay down. I have OCD which I have never had and cant stop cleaning when I feel up to it (kinda like this side affect). I have been haveing awful leg cramps and walking into stuff all the time. I forget what Im doing or were Im going. BUT the WORST PART is the ACNE... I am an Esthetician and I never had anything like this. I mean I have breakouts during the normal times ect... But this is bad an everyday there are more of them. I use really good stuff on my face to begin with an the things I would use on a client are not the same for treating acne that is caused from this drug so those things are not helping either. Right now my makeup covers it ok, but Im going to be on Prednisone for 3 more months before they will start weening me off and then going on 6-MP drug. I cant go 3 more months if this is going to get worst. PLEASE IS THERE ANYONE WHO KNOWS WHAT TO USE TO CONTROL THIS ACNE ????

My daughter was prescribed singulair about six months ago when she was 4Yrs. old, after about a month on the medication she stated complaining about stomach pain, headaches, and refuses to eat. She recently started running high fevers at night and has been very emotional. The doctors only had great things to say about singulair,it makes me wonder if our childern's doctors may be getting some kind of financial incentive for prescribing these medications to our children.

I have only been on Singulair for allergies for 4 days. This was added to my Symbicort inhaler (for maintenance) along with a Proventil inhaler (rescue inhaler). About the same time I changed my make-up and facial cleanser. Day 2 of the new meds...Singulair and Proventil I have developed a breakout of hives all around my mouth, jawline, chin, and upper neck under my jawline. I seriously thought it was the makeup and soap until I read some of the posts here.

As for other side effects, only a headache but that seems to be after the Proventil puffs.

I am 30 y/o and only recently found out that I have asthma and severe allergies and probably have my whole life. The last 7 years have been hell, with one "upper respiratory infection" after another.
Thank goodness I found a new doctor who took the time to find out what was really wrong with me, but I am upset that he prescribed the Singulair, as he should be aware of the side effects.

As of tomorrow I am done with this drug and we will see if the hives go away. I do not want to get to the point that some other patients have gotten to, with the stomach pains, moodiness, etc.

I only the last year got the depression and irritable bowel syndrome under control and do not need a relapse.

Thank you to all who post and God bless.

Guys - I just have to make a little follow up to my earlier post in January of this year. After giving it consideration and after reading all of your posts - I truly felt that I should stop this poison. And I did. Cold Turkey......

First day - mentally, I felt like I had been freed. Probably just a psychological thing, but nonetheless...
Second day - okay...my head felt clearer....my ear started to feel better...ah....my back...it's starting to feel less stiff...
Third day - no heating pad at night....I feel "lighter" (for lack of a better word)
Fourth day - my thighs don't hurt anymore.....I'm still tired.....very very tired...but the anxiety seems to be subsiding....I feel like I've come out of a strange fog....
Fifth day and on - my hubby says it took me a good two weeks to come around to "me" again.....now I'm still continuing my 2 TBS of flaxseed a day.....slowly losing a little weight - 5 pounds at this point.....15 more to go.....and thank God my chest doesn't hurt anymore. I don't feel like I'm dying (well, I still have anxiety attacks - but that's a separate thread - haha)....

My hubby just got diagnosed with cholesterol problems as well and he's on Simvastatin (sp?) which I believe is Zocor....and no problems. It's all in the makeup of a person, I'm convinced.

So everyone - if you feel like you're dying on this crap Vytorin, try to free yourself....even if it's just for a month....eat really well...take your flaxseed.....and see if you can get off of this horrible poison that OUR bodies don't accept...

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now....."-)

I've been on the ring for four full months now and am the most pleased with this than any other birth control I've been on. This is the first method that I didn't feel super moody and irritable. I'm completely myself and am not wanting to eat everything in sight. I have had only slight side effects, such as lower back pain, but it definitely lessened after I completed three full cycles. My periods are also super light and short. Before I started birth control my periods were 7 days and I had to change my super tampon every 2 - 3 hours for days. Now they're barely 3 days and I only use regular tampons that last the full 8 hours. I do have more discharge than normal and I have breakouts during the second week, but it can easily be covered by makeup. I'm going to change birth control pills for a few months to see if I can find one that doesn't have those side effects, but if not then I'm switching back.

I have PRP ( Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris) and my head, face, shoulders, and back have been a mess with sores and scabs that would not heal. I have been using Triamcinolone cream for more than a year with no visible effects. I went to a Rhumatologist for arthritis and she gave me a shot of Kenalog to reduce the pain and swelling. It helped that and also cleared up about 50% of my scaly and scab covered face and head. I will ask for another shot upon my next visit.
I can go out in public now without wearing makeup.

I moved to Florida in Sept. and my face broke out and swelled tremendously. We went to the emergency room and they put me on prednisone for 2 weeks. Everytime I went off prednisone my face swelled back up. Three times I went to the emergency room within 8 months. They filled me with pills or shots and it was all prednisone. The eight month my allergy doctor said he had never seen anything like this. He had me to go to USF to see a dermatologist. He did testing and found out I was allergic to preservatives in makeup and other cleaning products. He put me on protopic which last month I found out its side effects and I have just stopped all medicines. My face right now is broke out in places but I refuse to put any medicine back on my face. How long does it take to get all these medicines out of your system? Does anyone know. I believe these medicines have caused me more problems after I took them than before.

I have been on Levaquin for 9 days for a sinus infection. On about the 7th day my face started breaking out in a rash. The rash is all over my chin, up the side of my face behind my ears, on my forehead, into my eyebrows, and above my lips. I have also noticed today that I am starting to itch all over. Not really bad itching, but enought that I noti ce it. I have not used any new shampoo, makeup, or soap; just the same products I always use. I feel sure this strange slightly itchy face rash is due to the Levaquin. The rash is a fine concentrated rash also with pimple like rash areas too. I do not normally have any problems with my face. This is strange.
