Hey, I had Mirena implanted at the end of April, I was taking Marvelon BC pills back to back prior to getting on Mirena, after a few days of minor spotting my period stopped completely, I have not noticed any weight gain, my boobs are not any bigger, actually they seem smaller now than before, it has not been a full 4 months yet but I am noticing a lot of hair loss on my head in the last 2-3 weeks, but the rest of the hair on my body is growing like crazy, within less than 6 hours it's already popping out again on my legs and under my arms! And I've never had acne on my back or my chest in my life until now, I use to have the occasional break out on my face but now it's like there is always something going on with my skin, plus I'm shiny all the time thanks to how oily my skin has become. Sex drive just noticed that start too go about 3 weeks ago too, plus like some of the other women have mentioned there is a smell situation down there ever since I got this thing. I am also on Wellbutrin, however, I was on that long before Mirena, and I am feeling the depression that some others are talking about and despite being on Wellbutrin I don't feel it is getting better. I'm calling my doc tomorrow to see what my other options are, I don't want to have my period but it's not worth having these other side effects, at least when I was taking my pill back to back I didn't have to deal with these things! Thank you to all who are contributing to this forum, I thought I was a freak going through all these things alone.

I'm 27 years old, I suffered from huge 8 cm endometriosis on my right ovary & i had surgery to remove the endometriosis but my ovary was saved thanks god, I've been on marvelon for about a year then I took 4 shots of Decapeptil, I won't mention the side effects of both mentioned and how bad i really felt, & now after 2 years of my operation & the check ups each 5 months, here i am suffering from another endometriosis 3 cm size but this time on my left ovary & my dr. advised me to follow Yasmin bcp, it's my 1st month, i had very light period & i felt much better but i'm spotting since i started the pills & i'm depressed, with no sex drive, insomnia, no weight gain & no headaches but my breast size increases into double & it looks like they are huge fake breasts even though i'm still slim, i'm having sharp pain in my breast also, and neck cramps, I feel always sleepy & pessimist about everything :(

I've been on Yasmin for about 2 years. My breasts grew from a C cup to a DD-E cup within a couple of months. I am a size 6-8, small frame. I know cellulite occurs in thin women, but within the last 5 months (after never having it at all) I have developed a lot of cellulite in my thighs and bottom. I am absolutely convinced this is hormone related. Apart from this my periods are pain free and my moods are pretty normal I think. I have experienced a low sex drive for a while and it's definitely still not what it used to be. The thing is with the pill is that it is obviously not meant for everybody. Different pills affect bodies differently. I have tried about 5 different pills, Loette, Marvelon, Yasmin, LevlenLD, none with great results. I stayed with Yasmin for so long primarily because it alleviated my cramps and horrible periods. For me it's time to come off. I know my body is reacting badly to the pill and to be honest I can't be bothered with it anymore. In the last month I have experienced a dramatic increase in cellulite and terrible tenderness in my breasts to the point that I cringe whenever I take off my bra. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same dramatic breast increase and tenderness?

My experience with Yasmin was very similar to the one posted by "vpompon19" on October 26th 2007.

I took Yasmin for only a month. The day after I started, I had those symptoms:

- Nausea that last day and night
- Complete loss of appetite.
- Extreme fatigue
- Sleeping over 8 hours and still feeling tired
- Brain fog - inability to concentrate on anything
- Irritability
- Hypersensibility - I would cry for nothing...
- Feeling extremely nervous and nauseous when I had only half a green tea!
- Heartburn (I suffer from acid reflux but it was almost gone until I started Yasmin)
- Depression

When i stopped, I had the most painful period I've had for at least 8 years.
Plus I immediately started an urinary tract infection (which I never had before).

Two weeks later I experienced unbearable back pain. The doctor told me I had a herniated disk but I didn't force or had any trauma so I was sceptical. It turned out to be mononucleosis!

So thank you not Yasmin for having wasting at least 2 months of my life (so far), not mentioning the fear I had a more serious disease... No more birth control pill for me ever. I took another brand (Marvelon) for 7 years, then I stopped one year and my Irritable Bowel Syndrome disappeared. But my acne came back (even though I took Accutane when I was 15 - which I'm sure is the cause of my uncontrollable acid reflux).

I found out there are natural, safer and cheaper contraceptive methods. Don't wait until your doctor or the education system tell you about them because you'll be dead already.

I was having problems with my birth control pill Marvelon, I just felt like I was PMSing all the time. One minute I was furious at nothing, and then I would just want to cry but about absolutely nothing at all and it was through the entire month not just before my period. I felt like I was going nuts. I had my doctor switch me and she put me on Alesse. But 6 months in my PMS like symptoms are still here but reduced, but now my skin looks terrible. My neck has completely broken out in what is almost a rash except it's all zits. This is what used to happen to me for years while on Tricyclen but the doctors would never believe me! They just kept saying it's meant to cure your acne (which I didn't even have before birth control) when I finally got off tricylin it all cleared right up and never came back after a full year of turtle necks and cover up makeup and that was 10 years ago. So I just had my doctor move me again, she's now prescribing Yasmin, which I hope will be much much better. One thing I do know is when they say it will get worse and then better, they don't know what they are talking about!! if you are still reacting to the pill after the first three months, then try a new one, there are so many options out there and living life with acne that will supposedly 'miraculously' eventually heal is just not worth losing a year of your life with no confidence because a doctor has a hunch it will all fix itself when it never really does. If you don't break out then stay on it and enjoy, but if you do then don't be patient and wait it out, don't be scared to tell your doctor you want to just try something else.

I had my Mirena fitted December 2006 after taking Marvelon for 16 years, I have no children yet and feel this was the best contraception if we want to start a family soon. The first two months were a little bad, bleeding, acne and mood swings but after the pill I just dont want to have to have this taken out. I have small mood swings, I have my sex drive back, I feel emotion (on the pill I had become samey, samey) and I have loads of energy.
The only side effects I have is I have gained a little weight but I love that my boobs have grown! I am experiencing only 11 days in between spotting/period at the moment (3 months now) so am checking with my doc that there is nothing else wrong!
So I just wanted to say that for some of us it does work, I am really sorry to hear about other peoples problems, it must be awful when your doctor or nurse denies its due to Mirena, we know what our bodies are doing and docs or nurses should not tell us otherwise!!!

Yasmin gave me IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrom for those of you who don't know.) I was on the pill for eight months. My pre-symptoms were I had 5 yeast infections in a row, in the second and third months of taking it...this didn't ring any bells, even though I had never had a yeast infection before in my life, and my doctor just said I had a yeast imbalance. So a month after those stopped the IBS started. I was in the bathroom about 8 times a day, I thought maybe it was a flu, so i didn't go to the doc right away. I eventually gave up on that thought and went to see my doc, who even he, thought that it was IBS, so he sent me to a specialist right away. I had a colonoscopy and nothing, so the specialist told me that I needed to stop searching and just accept that I had IBS (I told him that I had been trying to figure it all out, because you literally don't wake up one day, go to the bathroom and your life changes forever, I KNEW something else was going on.) Anyways, I had a dumb specialist, he said that I had to accept this, I asked if it could possibly be my birth control and he said no and prescribed my a whole bunch of other drugs. Well I still just couldn't believe my life just all of a sudden changed, so I went to my family doc, lied, told him i was getting moody off Yasmin, and he switched me onto another. IT WORKED no more IBS, the results were immediate, it took a while for my poor damaged bowls to fix themselves, a few months actually, but now things are getting back to normal. Oh, and I've stopped birth control pills, back to condoms for me...my doc put me on Alesse, which didn't work either - moody! and then he put me on Marvelon, which inflamed my gallbladder (had to go for an ultrasound to see if i had gallstones) I figured at this rate, in two years i'd be dead from taking b/c so I was done, I would recommend the same to anyone!!

Wow... I'm not going crazy!!! My doc put me on Yazmin about a year ago to help regulate my moods. At first it wasn't bad. I lost weight, which was GREAT! But the past several months I've been miserable and didn't know why until now. I haven't slept throught the night in so long, I get really bad headaches, severe lower back pain, NO SEXDRIVE whatsoever ( used to have a really high sex drive), and extreme irratability and fatigue. I've experienced PMS symptoms that I never knew existed, sometimes for 3 weeks out of the month. i'm so glad I decided to google and found this page. I will definitely go off this pill at the end of my pack and see my doctor about going back on Marvelon, which i don't think I had any major problems with before. I will keep you posted!!!

Hi,
I was on Yasmin for three months but stopped taking it just over a month ago after looking at the postings on this website. I'd previously tried Alesse and Marvelon but had to switch because of breakthrough bleeding. Yasmin solved the breakthrough bleeding problem but caused the following symptoms that I hadn't had with the other two pills: headaches, vaginal dryness (to the point where it became difficult to have sex), dry skin and hair, constant thirst, frequent urination, muscle weakness, and NO sex drive. I didn't have the more serious symptoms that many of you report (heart palpitations, depression, panic attacks), but I was alarmed to read that many of you didn't start to experience these side-effects until you'd been on Yasmin for over a year. Did Berlex's clinical studies actually go on for long enough that they could tell what the long-term side-effects of this pill were (e.g. what does the change in blood potassium levels do to you over the long term?)? Doubt it. Anyway, I think Yasmin is probably great for breakthrough bleeding... but that's the only good thing I have to say about it. By the way, I feel pretty much back to normal now
(a month and a bit after I stopped taking it) so I guess the side-effects don't always persist.
Wishing you all the best of luck in recovering from Yasmin. If anyone knows of a pill that's good for cycle control but won't completely f*** up your body, please let me know!!!

Wow! This forum is really informative and scary!

I have tried numerous pills, Marvelon, Ortho Tri-Cyclin, Diane, Alese and all have caused the same symptoms: Depression, lack of energy, emotional outburts, 10-15 pound weight gain and abdominal bloating to the point where people would ask me if I was pregnant (and the rest of my body would look porportional).

Its been 4 years since I have been on and off the pill and now at the age of 26 I am beginning to notice a chance in my hormones which I put facial hair on my chin and sideburns!

Being in a new relationship my doctor has prescribed Yasmin as birth control to help with facial hair and contraception.

I haven't started and am now apprehensive...does anyone have any suggestions or similar experiences with hair growth/reduction?

I have been on Alesse for about 3 years and I like it hands down compared to some other pills that I have tried. I tried Diane-35 which turned me into a psychocrazy lady who wanted to drop out of school and just cry all day. Then I tried Marvelon which made me gain about 10 pounds in two months. Alesse has not caused me any problems like other drugs. Recently my doctor wanted to switch me to Yasmin...but after reading what other people have said about it I am sticking with Alesse.....it is the lessor of two evils. The truth is that you have to weigh your choices...do you want to have a few minor problems(don't continue if you feel you are going crazy) or would you rather have a baby? When you put it like that...I would rather deal with a little vaginal dryness thank you very much.

Itching!

I started taking Yasmin in June 2004 and by August 2004 I had the itchiest skin EVER - especially on my shins. I had blood tests to rule out anything serious and all the tests came back normal. The doctor said I should stick with the pill longer to see if it stopped. My skin was still so itchy, it just didn't get any better - I don't have sensitive skin, am not allergic to anything, and I didn't have any rashes or anything, just phenomenally itchy skin! I was convinced it was Yasmin so I came off it at the beginning of March 2005 and started taking Marvelon. Guess what. NO MORE ITCHING!!!

I used to be on marvelon (for about 6 years), then there was a scare about that particular pill, so my doctor put me on Yasmin - the so called 'no side effect' pill! I have now been on it for over a year, and in the last 4 months, I have started to get breakthough bleeding in the final week of the pack every month - its almost as if i am having a period as i get the cramps too, but how can this be!? I have also had real depressive moods while i've been on this pill - thinking about changing.

I had been on Dianette for years for acne. When I went to the family planning clinic instead of my GP, the doctor there wanted me to come off it, saying it wasn't meant for long term use. She put me on Marvelon which was OK but I heard about Yasmin being good for acne so I decided to try that. Well, halfway through my 2nd pack, I started feeling so ill. I thought I was going to vomit but I couldn't. I decided to go and get an Implanon implant which I got done the other night even if it makes my acne worse. I have to finish my pack of Yasmin but today I still feel so nauseous and my head is sore. I had to go and lie down for a few hours. I am counting down the days (6) until I finish this pack and get off horrible Yasmin. No other pill has made me feel so ill. I felt so ill I thought I must be pregnant, but am am not. That is a relief but the nausea is awful!!! I will suffer acne over nausea any time. Any suggestions to get me through these last 6 days?!
