I went to the doctor on 9/11/09, having been sick for a couple of weeks w/ nasal congestion and then developing muscle aches, fatigue, and a fever, along with the new symptom of a cough. My doctor was on maternity leave, so saw someone else in the practice, who hastily diagnosed a sinus infection and prescribed penicillin. Got the beginnings of hives on Sunday early in the a.m., called the pharmacy, discontinued the penicillin. Still had a fever and was miserable, called the doctor on Monday to document the hives for my medical chart, and said I thought it was flu, not an infection. Finally was called back, and they called in levaquin, despite my thought it wasn't infection. Fever had broke finally, and I was making some progress, but figured the doctor knows best and took one dose of levaquin before bedtime. Had horribly vivid daymares/hallucinations and kept telling myself, "Its not real!" Woke the next morning, and could barely move. Couldn't get from the couch to the tv a few steps away and knew I was in serious trouble. Called the doctor and the nurse said they wouldn't see me, no appointments, so my husband took me to the ER. ER doctor said it was a reaction to levaquin, discontinue use, and it would take probably a day to pass through my system. Also said I had a virus, not an infection to begin with. (Horribly ironic, huh). It is now Thursday, 9/17, and I move like a snail. I have no stamina, and can barely walk. I went to work (I'm a teacher) and cried after walking my kids down to art. Am I ever going to feel normal again? This is really depressing. I was a healthy, active person before I took a dose of this poison.

I've been on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for quite some time now...coming up on 2 years, I think? I think I took the brand name drug at first, but for most of the time, I've taken the generic BUPROPRION--different generics from different companies, even. But this last refill, the pharmacy had switched to BUDEPRION for the generic. Bupropion and Budeprion are NOT the same!
Today is my second day on Budeprion and I feel like crap. Jittery, shaky, diarrhea, peeing constantly ("polyuria"), heart racing, nausea, nausea while hungry, hot-and-cold, and now worn out from a day of all that! My psychiatrist is on maternity leave but I've got a call in to her office to get it switched back to brand-name. Thankfully I'm in grad school, and under my student health insurance, the copay is the same for brand or generic.
Why Budeprion is considered a generic of Wellbutrin, I don't know. Wellbutrin is bupropion. This Budeprion stuff is a different chemical composition and is absorbed by/released into the body an entirely different way, from what I've been reading. When is the FDA going to get its act together???

I used the nuvaring for 3 months about a year ago and I thought it was the greatest thing ever. This time around however I'm so disappointed. My feet have been swollen since insertion. To the point that they are bruised around my ankles. I sweat non-stop and am constantly hot. I also have the worst skin pigment issue on my face. It's almost like the maternity mask that you hear about pregnant women getting. My face has turned like dark tan but stops at the neck line. So it looks like I have the worst make-up line ever! I also starting loosing extreme amounts of hair and have had some weight gain. I seem to have a discharge like you get during ovulation but all month. I have taken it out. My feet are slowly reducing in size and my face seems to be returning to it's normal color. My hair is still falling out and the discharge hasn't stopped. I haven't had a period yet. I so sad because this is a really really awesome answer to mt birth control issues. I'm now thinking of getting my tubes tied. I read lots of your entries and didn't really find any with these types of side effects. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Ironically, when I was in high school, I was sick for 2 years; I had migraines so bad I couldn't read, write or even watch TV. I was nauseated every day.. felt a bit better in the evenings. But my eyes were so sensitive to movement, if i was to move my eyeballs just to look at something move on the TV screen, I would be in agony. At the time, my mother was so worried about me, she took me to see every specialist there was in the city (Winnipeg), I missed 2 years of high school. After seeing about 50 doctors, finally one asked me if I was on the birth control ill and told me to get off it. 3 months later I was completely cured! Since then, i have been so afraid about birth control. i have used nothing but condoms.. until my son was born, my maternity doctor recommended the Mirena. I was skeptical because it had hormones in it, but she assured me they were different hormones then what were in the BC pill, and she said the risks were so low. I thought I would try it, and be on the look-out for the same symptoms I had with the pill. But I didn't have any. No visual problems, no nausea, no headaches... so I thought it was the greatest thing on the planet. Meanwhile, I was miserable, angry at my husband all the time, had no interest in sex whatsoever, was not sleeping.. I thought it was post-partum hormones. We decided our son needed a sibling so i had Mirena removed to get pregnant, and after our daughter was born in Dec '07, i had it put back in... again, thinking I had post-partum depression or something. Even 6 months later after I quit breast-feeding, I still couldn't lose the weight. I was eating chocolate and peanut butter by the cup every single day, crying all the time, had no energy to look after my kids and wanted to nap all the time, and cried when I couldn't! Then a few months later all of a sudden my joints started hurting. My wrists, elbows (like tendinitis), then a couple of days later I was limping because my hip or my knees hurt or my ankles felt swollen and weak. I felt like a hypochondriac because I was always complaining of something. Did I mention the hair loss?
So, sorry for the long story. But most of my symptoms have disappeared since removal if the Mirena this past Valentine's day 2009. However, as I was forewarned, I have recurrent symptoms every month while PMSing. I have never suffered from PMS in my life, until I had Mirena removed. I get depressed, eat more, and my joints hurt so bad, and sex repulses me. My poor husband; A couple of weeks ago I got so grossed out during sex that I made him feel like a creep.
These last 2 weeks, I wasn't supposed to have joint pain, because i wasn't PMSing anymore. But it has gotten worse. That's when I put up my post asking if anyone else has this pain. I was beginning to think I had Fibromyalgia. I also have very dry burning eyes, which is also a symptom on Fibromyalgia. I saw my doctor twice last week, and she thinks I may have it too. Is anyone out there in a similar boat?

I am 29 and mother of a 5yr old Angel and 5 mth old Ayden. I started the NuvaRing after I had my son. I liked it for the first month, but the second month was not good at all! See, I was hoping to skip periods to avoid the pain that comes from my endometriosis, and PMS which seems I have had all my life! And of course, it came highly recommended from my doctor's office as well. I started to loose weight pretty steadily in the 6 weeks that followed the birth of my son, but all of a sudden the seventh or eighth week my weight remind stagnant and I actually gained 10 pounds since having it out for only 4 weeks! I have been putting on weight in my mid section and tummy area. It has become difficult to loose any weight even with working out, but the worse part has been the drastic mood changes, irritability, problems concentrating, migraines I don't wish upon anybody, acne, leg cramps, bloating, and horrible post partum depression that I think-now that I have read all your side effects that it wasn't the overwhelming feeling of having the now 2 children and having to return to work even after having 12 weeks of maternity leave after my son was born. I am relieved, and happy that I never put in the 3rd months ring. I think the NuvaRing has a lot to do with it all. I have been off the NuvaRing now for about three and a half-going on four weeks and the side effects have only seemed to become worse. It has put a strain on my marriage because my husband doesn't understand whats going on with me and I have refused to take my Lexapro because I am scared of what it may do to me with my hormones and mind all out of wack...I am desperate to find something that will make this STOP. I am not sure what my doctor may recommend, or if I would even take anymore recommendations from them. They must know that this is happening, right? I guess thats a question we should ask our doctors.

I've been on topamax at 400mg 2x a day for about 8 years now. It is a great drug but it has HORRIBLE side effects! It ( along with lamictal) gives me WONDERFUL seizure control. And it is safe for pregnancy. BUT it has destroyed my memory. short term and long term I cant remember much of anything! The sexual side effects is just awful. It makes reaching an orgasm almost impossible! I am very scared that I may have full blown alzheimers by the time I am 30!
Has anyone gained they're memory back after stopping topamax?

I am so glad this site is here. I started to think I was crazy. I got my Mirena put in on June 30th. Since then I've experienced excessive bleeding, stomach cramps and recently began to experience nausea as if I were pregnant. My bleeding has been so excessive that prior to having a baby I never really had long periods nor did I bleed heavily enough to go through a pack of pads. Now, I got through a pack of pads in two weeks. The nurse at by GYN says to take 800 mg of Ibuprofin inorder to stop the cramping and excessive bleeding. Ive found that taking 800 mg in the AM and at night stops the bleeding and cramps but, does this mean I will be taking Ibuprofin throughout my time with this birth control??
I was so sure I was pregnant I went out and got a pregnancy test to check. Thank god it was negative. I just had my first child May 8th and I'm not ready for another child right now. I've recently relocated to a new area and I'm still enjoying being on an extended maternity leave. Not to mention... I scared the heck out of my husband!! I feel so unsure about Mirena but I'm willing to try it out a little longer but, in addition to Mirena I'll certainly be using another birth control method for back up like a spermicide or something.

I would like to stop taking paxil, I have been on it for 3 yrs. When I skip my medicine I get what feels like electrical shocks in my neck & head. I wasnt sure if I had a pinched nerve at 1st but began to associate this with the event that I had not taken my meds. I also have onset of panic attacks & rapid heart, & terrible terrible forgetfulness, as to even what cabinet I would like to open, I open the wrong one, go into the wrong doorway, wrong driveway. I am very concerned. I have told my Dr. that I would like to get off this Paxil but Ive been told that it would be best since I was suffering from anxiety attacks in past. I would like to be committed to be able to handle the withdrawls. If anyone has been successful in stopping Paxil and now feels pretty back to normal, please let me know. Thanks

I had Mirena inserted in Feb of 2009, and bled for just over 3 months after the insertion. I have still gotten my period every month just like normal (7 days of using super-plus protection), AND the mood swings are UNBEARABLE!!!! I get sharp knife-like shooting pains in my lower uterus and can't get rid of an ongoing UTI since having it inserted. I paid for it out of my pocket as I was on maternity leave when I got it, so I'm not wanting to "waste" the money, but I'm seriously thinking about getting it removed. I've been on the verge of a mental breakdown and I've ALWAYS been able to cope with ANYTHING!!! Not sure what's going on, but have some good ideas it has A LOT to do with this IUD...
