I am 19 years old and have had Mirena since May 2008. I really struggled with the cramps and continuous bleeding for the first two months. My menstrual periods became less and less until I hit my year mark of having it. NOW, if I'm around a girl friend for more than a few days, I automatically get my menstrual period the same day she will and it will last for 8 to 10 days. I thought I wasn't supposed to get my period after a year of having Mirena?!! I've really enjoyed not having to worry about taking a pill every day or putting a new patch on every week and hope it stays on.... BUT, a year and a half of constant acne, the freshman 15, the anxiety, the decreased sex drive, the abdominal cramps are really starting to take a toll on my mental health!
I recently have developed new symptoms of excessive sweating in my armpits, loss of interest in doing things I used to love, joint pain, thin peeling nails, dry skin, cold intolerance. I mentioned these things to my mother the other day on the phone and she reminded me that thyroid problems are very congenital in our family. I have a doctor appt in 2 days for a blood test. If all goes well, I may just have to say goodbye to Mirena. Its been 100% effective for me in the past year and a half, but I can't handle the excess fine-print bullshit that comes with it!!!

Was on Prednisone for 11 days for an injury to my neck. I knew nothing about the drug except what my doctor told me that it would reduce inflammation in my neck and help with pain.

Well, it did nothing for the injury and pain in my neck. BUT.... I had HORRIBLE menstrual cramps and got my period 8 days early. I've had my period for 9 days now AND terrible pain in my upper left leg. I thought the pain was related to my leg and as the days went by I realized it was in my left hip! It's so bad I can't lift my leg without extreme pain. I KNOW IT'S FROM this awful drug.

I've been off of it for 4 days and the pain is still with me. I called my family dr. and was told Prednisone doesn't do that. BULL!! The paperwork I got with it from the pharmacy show "Changes in menstrual periods" "muscle/joint pain" "bone pain".

I wish I knew this BEFORE I ever took it.

Does anyone know if these symptoms and problems will go away after stopping it? I called the pharmacy and was told it will take 2-3 weeks for it to get out of my system!!

Has anyone had problems that eventually went away after stopping the drug?

Thanks and I hope everyone else is okay soon! This drug should be off the market. I received no help for my neck pain at all!!

I have had migraines for years and as I got older the migraines got worse. I was having four a month when my doctor started me on Topamax. I was to take 25 mg at night for a week and then increase each week until I was up to 100mg. I never made it 100mg. At 50mg I woke up with double vision. My doctor said the Topamax was so great for migraines that I stayed at 25 mg for over a year. Thats when the side effects started. I had lost of concentration and inability to find the right words. I thought I was just getting old...even thought I was in early stages of Alzheimer. I had mild depression but thought it was from things I was going through in life. Then I notice that my morning urine would smell. I cant even describe the smell just different and I knew something was wrong. I haven't had a menstrual period in over five years but started spotting. Thats when I looked up the side effects. I stopped taking the Topamax immediately. The smell in my urine went away after a few days off of it. I am hoping that my memory and concentration improve gradually. Its not worth the problems it causes. Now I'm looking for another way to lessen the migraines.

I just had my IUD removed this morning after reading many posts with similar problems as mine. I had my IUD in for about 5 months now. This month and the previous month, I had been experiencing extreme chest pains (directly in the middle of the my chest) with increased pain with breathing. From this pain, I had panic attacks (which I had never had in my life previously). No problems with my heart at all. Had to go by ambulance to ER and during the 5 hours, the pain went away... They only checked my heart, even though I never thought it was my heart, since it was in the middle of my chest... Movement increased pain, as well. I would feel rushes of warmth and heavy vomiting. After my 2nd episode, I began to realize that my previous episode was also during my menstrual period, which led me to believe that it may have something to do with the IUD. Since both my last two cycles were extremely light flows (barely anything really)... My hair was also falling out a lot after having the IUD.

I can't believe that so many doctors don't know about the side effects of Kenalog and/or don't advise their patients about them. It's unbelievable!!! My father was a very well-known rheumatologist in Puerto Rico (he passed away in 1994) and I worked with him for many years. And one of the first things I learned about Kenalog (and all corticosteroids) were its possible side effects, the most common ones being redness or pain at the injection site, headache, menstrual period changes and/or post-menopausal bleeding, easy bruising and/or bleeding, swelling of the ankles/feet, persistent weight gain, puffy face, unusual hair growth and thinning of the skin, among many others. In case you want to learn more about this, you can visit ******.

I myself am post-menopausal although I'm only 51, and haven't had my period for over two years now. Two weeks ago I got a shot of Kenalog for my back pain and about three days later started spotting, and right now I'm having full vaginal bleeding. I don't worry cause I know it was the Kenalog, but since I have an appointment on the 29th with my gynecologist, she'll tell me if anything has to be done.

Anyway, I hope to have helped the soooo many women who have soooo many doubts about Kenalog. Take care, friends! TutiMM from Florida

My 9 year old son only took Singuliar for about 5 weeks. He had side effects almost immediately, he was so aggressive, angry all the time, headaches, stomach ache and feeling like he was going to throw up, bad nightmares, a horrible rash, biting his nails, not focusing in school and got into trouble all the time, no appetite but his little body seem puffy all over. He has been off this medication for 3 months and he is still not 100%. He cries at little things and still has the same rash and with meds it is not going away. He had to change schools as he still was having problems in school. He just seems like he is not the same little boy and something is just not right. I do not know what to do at this point. Doctors say it should be out of his system by now, but if it is than there is permanent damage to his brain as he is just not the sharp little guy he was. We have had to take him out of all sports. Anyone else having these same problems???

I've been taking Femcon Fe since the end of July of this year! My breasts feel really tender as if I am going to start my menstrual period and i have tiny cramps. Sometimes I get upset about little things and I cry over it for about five minutes then get mad that I was crying. The worst thing is I constantly have headaches and and every little thing triggers my headaches..ie sunlight, loud noises. Most of all I get nauseated and dizzy and feel like I am going to throw up at the worst times possible. I dont think this pill is working out for me, especially since I am a college student and the pill is only making me lazy and tired all the time!

Hello,

I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

I just started on my first dose today to treat a urinary tract infection that was not responsive to the first antibiotic and my doctor says it may have spread to my kidneys, given my symptoms, so if it gets worse, I'll have to go to the hospital, which I really want to avoid, so I hope the med works.
Right now, my body feels weak and I have this wierd numbness in my legs. It's very strange because my balance seems off and I am not able to walk normally. My menstrual period also appears to have stopped 3 days pre-mature.
Aside from this infectious ailment recently, I am a healthy 37 year old. I have concern because even if this trouble with balance and walking continues, I will not be able to drive to get to work. Can you drive and do normal activities on this stuff? Or do I have to remain at home while being treated? Are there any success stories with this med? It seems like there are more side-effects mentioned in the previous posts than benefits. The ones mentioned are scary! Any really good news?

I have recently (one and half weeks ago now) had an epidural spinal injection to help alleviate severe lower disc and leg pain. I was not told what steroid was used but have recently learnt that it was probably Kenalog.

The pain has almost totally alleviated which is great and long may it continue but I have had some very strange side effects. I seem to have a permanently salty taste in my mouth and I cannot easily tolerate caffeine or alcohol in any small quantity (one glass of wine). I have also been feeling very tired due a constantly heavy menstrual period that has now lasted eleven days which is very unusual for me as I am pre-menopausal and they usually last around 3 to five days max. I have also had a couple of dizzy spells and feel quite nauseous sometimes during the day. I have not been able to sleep very well at night (insommnia) - my sleep patterns seem to be all out. I get tired during the day and am wide awake until four or five a.m. in the morning. I also had several hot flushes just after the injection (far more than usual and of longer duration) but these do seem to have alleviated now. I have lost some weight and have little appetite although I do try and eat as I am not overweight at all and need to keep to a normal weight.

All in all, even though the pain has gone, I seem to have acquired different problems which I was unprepared for and not informed about from my consultant or hospital staff. They just said I would feel tired from the sedative for a few days I had at the time when the injection was administered.

Does anyone have any idea how long the menstrual problom will last???

Since going on Effexor 3 years ago, I have had similar side effects, as well as withdrawal symptoms when trying to go off the drug. My symptoms while on it are: night sweats, being hot all the time (sweaty hands and feet), rashes all over, excema on my scalp and neck, "lightning flash" type feelings in my brain/head, extreme depression, an inability to feel intimacy (although no sex drive problems), extreme weight gain (despite frequent exercise and good diet). During my pre-menstrual period, I am pretty much psychotic, to the point of wanting to hurt myself and others. With the weight gain and depression, I really AM better off not taking the drug. But I find it impossible to take two weeks off work to simply stop taking a drug. It is not possible to stop taking effexor and work or function in ANY CAPACITY. I really feel for the moms out there who have had to do it. One other thing I have been experiencing is severe joint pain. I would like to know if others have experienced this.

I had two Kenalog shots in June 2005 for hayfever/ allergies. The first one on June 12th- 60mg (worked for only a week), and then another one June 19th -80mg. I told the Dr. I felt it too high of a dose but he felt if the first didn't take I needed a higher dose and it wasn't harmful. However in response to Guest #12186 and Guest #12312. I have now officially been on my menstrual period for 50 STRAIGHT DAYS- NON STOP!! I am 36 years old and until reading this web site I was concerned I had some horrible problem going on. I do have a Doctor's appt next week which I will still go to but hearing your same horrible side effects gives me some comfort. Is there anything your Doctors advised you to do on this? Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Had a one time cortisone injection in 2004 for severe hay fever. Was a miracle shot! However, one side effect I personally experienced was a menstrual period that lasted 51 days. Took a one time cortisone shot this year, 2005, and once again, the same thing has happened. My Dr. has been a practicing allergist for some 50+ years and has NEVER heard of this side effect, until me. Just want to help anyone else out there who may have had the same problem, but did not relate it to the shot.

My plastic surgeon has been injecting my keloid/hypertrophic scar with Kenalog every three weeks. I began my normal, regular menstrual period on 3/7/05. On 3/17/05 I had my second injection. I started having irregular menstrual bleeding on 3/21/05 that lasted over two weeks, which never stopped before my "regular" period began. When it did begin, it was extremely heavy and had a large amount of clots. During the same time, the lower lid of my right eye began twitching CONSTANTLY. This symptom lasted for over two weeks as well. My regular doctor checked me out and said everything was fine...that it may have just been stress induced. Unfortunately for me, only after I had my third injection (today) did I question a possible link between my symptoms and the Kenalog injections (10 to 20 mg each time). My plastic surgeon claims that this is a very slim possibility/rare but my pharmacist said that it is highly likely. If you are a female, I'd definitely look into this more before you proceed. I think I'd rather have a hideous Keloid scar than a never-ending menstrual cycle.

I have been taking Zoloft for about six months now, and for the past six months I haven't had one menstrual period (this isn't unpleasant, but a little worrisome in its strangeness).

I am sixteen years old and I weigh 130 pounds. I take 200 mg of Zoloft (sertraline) every morning for depression. I am constantly in emotional turmoil internally, but I rarely have the motivation to express any of it, which leaves me a bottled-up mess.

I have gained about five pounds on Zoloft, and I exercise frequently and watch my diet in an attempt to avoid more gain. My emotions, ideals, thought patterns, and self image are all extremely volatile and they change constantly.

If I don't take Zoloft for one day, I feel slightly more energetic and I always have detailed, vivid dreams that night. If I don't take Zoloft for two days, I get a splitting headache, I am aggressive and histrionic, and I feel tense and hopeless. These disturbances are only slightly more unpleasant than how I feel when I take the medication; hence, I usually take it. However, if I gain one more pound while taking this, regardless of withdrawal effects, I will discontinue the Zoloft.
