Hi. Im a nurse who was put in Topamax for mood stabilization in January of this year. Tapered up from 25 mg a night and now am on 200 mg a night. I have lost ZERO pounds although I have no appetite and cant stand the taste of a soda. I just wanted to share my nightmare. I have not had any tingling or numbness, which is a main side effect.
I do have a terrible metallic taste in my mouth and my mouth never feels clean. YUCK. Sodas flat. My personality is flat.. I am exhausted. My friends say the person they knew is gone, my appetite is gone.
My back hurts all the time like it's very tight in the kidney region....I cant spell, I cant remember yesterday, I sleep all the time when Im not working...I drop things, I don't remember what I was doing 10 minutes ago, I feel like I am on the outside of my body looking in.
My vision is blurred somewhat at times.
I work for a neuro-psychiatrist. I have decided to taper myself down. I don't think it has done anything but made me so flat I am not here anymore. Who wants that? Looking back, I was not in need of mood stabilization but a vacation.
The only thing it has helped me with is it has stopped the desire for Klonopin which is normal for Topamax. It works on the receptors in your brain that make you crave benzo's. I took my Klonopin as prescribed.
Im thinking I want my old self back. I miss laughter. :(

This reaction is to the entire "PrevPak", vs. just the antibiotic Biaxin. The PrevPak, used to treat H. Pylori, also contains another antibiotic, Clarithromycin; along with 2 capsules of Prevacid in prescription strength, "these are proton inhibitors" which reduce stomach acid by preventing certain actions to take place in the stomach. The side-effects of the proton-inhibitor include the potential to block the absorption of Vitamin B, calcium and an enzyme needed to process and use iron in your body. Therefore, the following symptoms or behaviors may occur, once you begin the Prevpak. a) anemia/tiredness (take some slow-release iron) b) confusion and anxiety..(B12 deficiency); c) craving for milk and dairy (calcium deficiency).
Long-term, bone breakage, and other issues arise if you continue long-term use of a proton-inibitor.
I am posting this here as many of the reactions people are associating to Biaxin seem more attributable to the Proton-inhibitor that usually accompanie's Biaxin's use for gastrointestinal issues.
Biaxin's reaction, in my case, I would say was isolated to sleeplessness feelings, strange nightmare-like wakings, disorientation, a metallic taste in my mouth, and dehydration.
All of these are considered traditional symptoms of Biaxin.
I also had itching on day 12-14 for the PrevPak dose. This is probably attributable to the proton-inhibitor possibly affecting my histamines. However, it could also be an allergic reaction to either Biaxin or clarithromycin.

I had a mirena put in 5 years ago and had some weight gain and problems with ovarian cysts. My Dr. never told me the cysts might be related. They are extremely painful when they rupture - like having appendicitis. I had that one removed and then a new one put in three weeks ago. I have never been so sick in my life. I was unable to hold down food for 12 days and unable to get out of bed for 8. After that I started having severe ovarian cysts on both ovaries with one rupturing last Friday. I now have a metallic taste in my mouth that has basically destroyed my ability to eat. My breasts are very tender and I have had faintng spells. I am not sure if they changed the medication in the last 5 years but this is ridiculous. I think I am going to have this thing taken out at the 6 week check up. I am finished with kids and it is not worth it.

I began taking Lisinopril back in early February. Within days, I developed a horrible cough, that was so severe, it induced vomiting - not food, just a clear sticky mucous. The vomiting happened 5-6 times per day following a stressful coughing bout. I saw my PCP, was diagnosed with a "bad cold", prescribed cough medicine and inhaler and sent on my merry way. The vomiting was happening while I was driving or sitting at my desk at work; it would come on so suddenly that I rarely had time to get to the bathroom. When this didn't clear up after several weeks, my PCP took me off the Lisinopril for about 10 days, but there didn't seem to be any change in the symptoms, so went back on the Lisinopril. I have had Abdominal, ENT, and Brain CT Scans to investigate the cause of this problem as I am a breast cancer survivor. Thankfully, the scans were clear. I have also had an Endoscopy, and have seen an allergist. I also developed a metallic taste in my mouth that was horrible. After doing research on the Internet and speaking with others who have also experienced similar symptoms, I contacted my PCP and took myself off the Lisinopril in mid-April. The coughing has been reduced, and the volume and frequency of the vomiting mucous has reduced as well. Here I am seven weeks off the medication and I am still have side effects. One of my doctors said that it could take several more months to see a complete improvement. Had I been aware of the potential for these side effects I would have never gone on this medication in the first place. I do know folks, however, that take Lisinopril without any side effects, so it works great for some. My BP is now creeping up again, and I am not sure what replacement drug will work best for me.

Metallic taste, loss of taste: A few weeks after beginning my once/month Boniva dosage, I lost my full sense of taste. I now continuously have a sort of metallic taste in my mouth, a combination of salty/bitter tastes, and have lost the 'sweet' tastebuds. Further on the back of the tongue I still have some taste, but it is not what it was before. It's a personal loss, as I used to have very sensitive taste buds, this loss handicaps my ability to cook well, and I had been a very good home cook. I still retain a full sense of smell.
I have been on Boniva for about a year and a half, my doctor says she's never heard of anyone losing taste sensations as a side effect of this medication. I'm too concerned about possible osteoporosis, as I have osteopenia, to discontinue the drug for this alone. Has anyone experienced this side effect, is it permanent, or does it disappear if the drug is discontinued?

I started taking this medication on a Tuesday... by Friday I started to notice a ringing in my ears.. I also had dark colored urine..and a metallic taste in my mouth. I stopped taking the medication because I couldn't stand the ringing in my ears.... it has been almost 1 week since I stopped.... my urine color is normal.. but the ringing in my ears is still there and I now have diarrhea. I can't handle the ringing anymore.... how long should side effects last once the meds are done????????? Also, after reading some of the other notes, I too had a pain/soreness in my back.

I've been thinking that stress was causing all these symptoms but now I'm thinking differently. I only took Lactase Enzyme because I thought herbal was better. After taking it for a week I found I could eat a variety of foods I wasn't able to eat prior.
One morning I awoke and was bleeding profusely from the bowels. The bleeding went on for four days then stopped. The doctor booked with with a specialist who said it would be two months before he could see me so I figured I'd cure myself or bleed to death.
I started drinking cabbage juice and am taking 3 acidophiles daily.and that stopped the bleeding completely. Last night I had a craving for ice cream which turned out to be a bad mistake. The pain was excruciating although I don't vomit and didn't get diarrhea. It looks like the side effects of this super duper lactose cure is permanent because I haven't taken the enzyme for a month now.

I went to the doctor's office recently because I was pretty sure I had a sinus infection...and it turns out I did. My doctor prescribed me biaxin and told me that I should stay on this for at least 3 weeks until the infection clears up.. When I first started taking this medication, everything was fine....but now things seem to be worse.. I am on week two of this medicine, and my sinus infection has developed into a terrible cold.. I have a funny smell in my nose(I don't know if it's because of the cold or the medicine) I have an AWFUL metallic taste in my mouth, sometimes I have severe abdominal cramping, and for the last two weeks I've had difficulty sleeping.. I will fall asleep around 12:00 p.m but find myself awake by 4 am and then I have trouble falling asleep(when I do sleep I have terrible nightmares).. Almost every time I wake up in the middle of the night, I have this nasty taste in my mouth... I do find that when I eat certain foods it helps to stop the metallic taste.. I have adhd/ocd and I have noticed that this has gotten much WORSE since I started taking the medicine...I feel space out all the time and dizzy and my vision is blurry.. I have a funny smell in my nose right now and difficulty breathing sometimes.. I am about to call the doctor and find out if I should stop taking this, or just keep taking it for the next 5 days.. I just can't handle it anymore because I feel like I'm going insane.. I don't even know as of now if I still have a sinus infection.. Please do me a favor-if you are considering taking this medication please avoid it at all costs because it will make you feel like complete crap.. There are other medicines that you can take I am sure.. I don't even know why this is on the market....it's worse than the birth control pill!

I was prescribed Biaxin XL 4 days ago for sinus infection ( 2 -500mg tablets taken together once per day). The side effects were worse than the infection for me. I became extremely anxious and panicky, nauseated, sweaty, tired but unable to sleep and I lost my sense of smell and had a terrible metallic taste in my mouth. By the third day, I could tell the infection seemed a little better, but then I took my third dose and within 30 minutes I got the shakes, suffered diarrhea with terrible stomach cramps, vision problems, loss of appetite and a terrible anxiety/panic attack where I felt that I was losing it. I had to leave work to get home quickly. My blood pressure kept going higher and higher and I started to get teary. This was one of the worst days of my life. I have stopped taking this medication and have replaced it with amoxicillin. Today I feel much better and blood pressure has gone down. I will never take Biaxin again. Continuing on this medication for 10 days could have led me to suicide. If you feel these things when taking any medication, stop taking it right away and speak with your doctor and pharmacist. When I contacted my doctor;s office they said it should not make me feel anxious. They should obviously do more research on the drugs that they prescribe. I hope no one else experiences these terrible side effects.

I am a 30 year old nurse and know first hand how birth control pills are individual. I was on many before Yasmin. 6 months ago I started Yasmin because it was the new hype in birth control medicine since it reduces length of period, flow of period, and reduces acne.
I don't think the ingredient drospirenone that's included in Yasmin (a potassium sparing drug, and diuretic, another form of the same type is Spironolactone) works for me.
Ever since I had experienced these symptoms:
Anxiety-heart palpitations, suspiciousness, racing thoughts.
Headaches-tension, leading to muscle spasms in neck and shoulders.
Dizziness-Vertigo type spinning sensations
Ear fullness-popping and cracking without losing hearing.
Fatigue-no motivation, especially for an early riser and a person who works 12 hr shifts.
Chest tightness, lump in throat feeling, could be due to increase in stomach acid (HCl).
If anyone else has vertigo, or dizziness, I would love to know!
Thanks,
Good luck with trying a different form of birth control.

My doc prescribed levofloxacin, 500mg once a day for 21 days, due to a low level chronic sinus infection that had flared up. I got near immediate relief from the worst effects of the infection but have experienced a rather extreme metallic taste in my mouth. I've used a tongue scrapper and that helps for short periods. The other item that seems to help is chewing Altoids cinnamon gum. I ran across another web site that recommends rinsing with a solution of 8 oz water with 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. Other than the metallic taste, I haven't had any adverse reactions. Good luck to all.

I only had my mirena for four days. I had it put in last Friday as the wonder cure for heavy, long and painful periods and I was very excited that my life was about to change for the better. (I do not need it for contraception as my husband has had a vasectomy). The moment I came off the gynae's table I had terrible lower back pain and immediate abdominal cramping. It hadn't helped that the strings had been left too long and the one that wasn't hanging out (!) was stabbing me internally. That was soon rectified early on Saturday morning after a sleepless night of severe cramping when the emergency clinic trimmed the strings for me. I felt immediately better as I was more mobile, but during the day I became aware of an odd, occasional, but familiar pain in my hands and feet. This developed into a constant pain (with occasional shooting pains) over the next few days. I had had these pains during both my pregnancies and they had been diagnosed then as carpal and tarsal tunnel syndrome. I also developed the severe "fanny ache" where it feels like your pelvic bone is going to split in two (another reminder of pregnant days) and sends shooting pains down the thighs. I had a permanent headache - sometimes manageable, sometimes unbearable (bear in mind that the whole time I was dosed to the max with nurofen too!). I was incredibly thirsty all the time, drinking gallons and gallons of water, I had a metallic taste in my mouth (same as when pregnant) and my saliva had become very thick. I think it was this that made me feel as if I had something stuck in my throat. I had bouts of nausea that were similar to morning sickness only more unpredictable than my pregnancy sickness - things like the dishwasher powder was OK but walking past the butchers was not! My boobs grew but were not tender, my waistline grew too - probably as a result of all the extra fluid that I was taking on. I felt thoroughly miserable - although whether that was just because I was feeling like crap dealing with all of that or whether it was a hormonal thing, I don't know. I did eat more but I do that when I'm miserable anyway! I went to see my GP Tuesday morning - he was very understanding and agreed with me that the phantom pregnancy symptoms were due to my body's response to the hormone. When I mentioned that my bleeding had changed and seemed to have become quite watery, he took a swab to check for infection (I don't think that there is/was one - results due later in the week). He suggested that I wait for the results to come back before making a decision. I thought about that for about an hour and took myself to the FPC and asked for it to be taken out. The doctor I spoke to there was unsympathetic, repeated all the side effects that are listed on the leaflet and steadfastly refused to acknowledge any of the ones I was telling him about. He said that the bleeding and the sore breasts would all settle down with time. I explained again that I was geared up to bleed for the next six months if that's what it took - that wasn't the issue, my breasts weren't sore and it was my pregnancy symptoms that were alarming me. He reluctantly agreed to remove it (in fact he was, in my opinion, extremely rude and dismissive once I had asked him), and spent the next few minutes banging on about what contraception I should now use. I referred him to my notes as I got off the table to dress. As quickly as it had come with its insertion, my lower back pain disappeared with its removal. I was astonished. The doctor didn't believe me. 24 hours later, I am still cramping and am still slightly swollen, still bleeding the watery blood but I have no hesitation that I have done the right thing for me in having it removed. My head is in the right place again and I will never complain about my periods again....

I have had my IUC for 10 days and I want it out already. After only 10 days I am so bloated and my breasts are huge. I have a metallic taste in my mouth, dizziness, and anxiety. I only have it so I can use estrogen for menopause. Forget it! Is there anyone out there that can tell me these things get better with time? Why do the doctors push Mirena? Why?

I was glad to read this, I thought I was crazy. Been taking Biaxin for 3 days for a bad sinus/throat infection, BP today went up to 130/100, took my blood pressure meds (which I had been able to stop taking several months ago) but it just went up on the top to 150/98. My heart is racing and I'm so tired but can't sleep. Severe metallic taste in my mouth. Skin is burning, temperature is 100 and profuse sweating as mentioned above...I'm calling the Dr. now to get something else. Does anyone know how long it takes to get this out of your system?

Is this normal??? I inserted NuvaRing for the first time August 26th. (During my exam). My NP said it would be okay to start then (although my last period was 08/11), but to use additional contraception. My husband and I have been using condoms since the birth of my daughter 2 years ago - so we continued like normal. Twenty minutes after my appointment, I became very nauseated. The following day I had a severe metallic taste in my mouth and a pounding headache. I became extremely tired (falling asleep at 8:30pm) and got very achy, especially arms and legs. I felt like I was on diet pills or drugs (jetty feeling, trouble spitting out words, racing thoughts). The symptoms would be gone in the morning, but come back as the day wore on. The problems became so bad that I took the Ring out on 08/31. (Holiday weekend, no NP on duty). I called the doctor's office on Tuesday. They said that I probably coincidentally caught a virus. It is now 09/07. My symptoms have become better day by day since removing the Ring, but the metallic taste is now a soap taste and I still have occasional nausea. Shouldn't the hormones be gone by now? How long will this last? Anybody????

I am so glad that I found this website, because I thought all of this was just me! Nine days ago, I was prescribed 750mg of Levaquin/once a day for 14 days. I was just about to take today's dose but after reading only page 1 on this site, will NOT be taking the 9th dose, nor will I be taking any more of this stuff at all! Mine all started with a toothache a few weeks ago, and ended up in the ENT's office with the above prescription with a CT-Sinus scan after 14 days of being on Levaquin. I always read the side effects of any prescription that I'm given, and I was aware that Levaquin could cause ruptured tendons so I've been very methodical with every move that I make...my husband had a ruptured achilles tendon a couple of years ago and that's the LAST thing I want to go through. However, after reading this site, I now understand that all of the other symptoms that I've been experiencing over the last several days are most definitely side effects of Levaquin that they aren't admitting to. Plus, it doesn't seem to appear that being cautious about how you move makes much of a difference when you're taking this stuff. Metallic taste in my mouth; Thrush and a lack of having full taste; swollen knees, extremely sore and aching legs, hips, and back/neck area; nausea; jittery spells very shortly after taking the medicine; hot, then cold spells...everything listed here! Why are doctor's continuing to prescribe this stuff left and right?? I'd rather just have a sinus infection!

I am on my last of 10 days on prednisone and all I can say is Thank God! I am taking it for asthma and I feel worse than I did before! My chest feels like I am having a heart attack, I have labored breathing, I am confused and weak, terrible pain in my neck and shoulders, horrible metallic taste in my mouth that even Dentyne Ice can't take away, I feel exhausted all the time, I am starving myself only to gain a pound a day and I can't concentrate at all. There was no warning not to mix this drug with alcohol, and after a couple of drinks I black out. The thing that really sucks is that I am a professional flutist and it is affecting my breathing and ability to play! Someone please tell me these "side effects" will eventually go away as I am scared to death after reading about your experiences.

I started with 20mg of Lisinopril this winter. Within two months I was coughing. Within a month I was diagnosed with pneumonia. Antibiotics were prescribed and eventually the pneumonia symptoms went away, but I still have the cough. It is dry, deep and constant. I cannot sleep at night. I have a rash along my neck and on my scalp. I can't focus and I've gained weight. Food tastes funny and I have a metallic taste in my mouth sometimes. I have lost so much sleep I can hardly function. The only way I can sleep is to take a Benadryl at night, but that is not good restful sleep. I taking myself off of it starting tomorrow.

I currently have had Mirena in for 6 months. I like it because i haven't become pregnant and my hair and nails seem to be healthier, but there are a lot of things that are truly horrible... I have really bad lower back pain feels bruised, restless leg syndrome at night, horrible weight/food craving issues, a metallic taste in my mouth, nausea most nights, many mood swings, acne - especially on chin, occasional numbness in hands and/or feet at night, unfocused/blurred vision sometimes, headaches, the strings stab me sometimes (they are about as hard as fishing line), and my husband feels it and yes it pokes him. Its sorta like being pregnant without the happy ending.

I started taking 400mg yesterday for a sinus infection. Fifteen minutes after my FIRST dose, my stomach started cramping. About five hours later I noticed muscle pain in my thighs all the way down into my toes. It was like I worked out at a gym. This morning I have a metallic taste in my mouth that even lemon water won't cure. I have a VERY HIGH tolerance for medication and usually have to double whatever is prescribed. Fortunately I did not do that with this med since it was new to me. I will not be taking anymore. I will go back to the amox and deal with the infection. I read that apple cider vinegar was good for that - without the side effects. Seriously, beware if you are sensitive to drugs. This one surprised me.
