Being weaned from Methylpred, for the third time in 1 1/2 yrs. VERY bad side effects from losing weight, to siezures, thin skin, lots of bruising, mood swings, depression, anxiety, shaking. Now that I have been decreased once more, from 42mg daily, to 12 mg, my stomach is enlarging by the day! My body and face are thin, (size 4) however, my waist is now 35" and my lower abdomen is 39". I am totally uncomfortable. I work out daily, watch my caloric intake, but each day my clothes get tighter. Any ideas? Is this normal. Can I hope to get my flat stomach? I was placed on mega doses of steroids, when it was rhought I had Polymyositis. Had leg biopsy---inconclusive, however, steroids seemed to lower CPK numbers after several months. Now Neurologist believes steroids are causing numbers to raise, and weaken my muscles. Yuck! Thanks for any help JN

I have just finished my first day of taking Methylpred. So far
so good. I just want to know if it will cure a really bad case
of poison ivy/poison sumac and how long does it usually take.

I had a severe allergic reaction to a Sulfa drug that I was taking to prevent infection . I had a skin cancer removed from my nose. As a precaution I was given Sulfa. I became very ill. I ran a high fever ( 103) . The Doctor said it was not from the Sulfa drug. Advised to go to Primary Care Dr to check for a Virus ( flu) . I ended up in the Emergencey Room at the Hospital the same day . By then I had broken out in a red rash all over my body. They immediateky asked if I was on Sulfa drug. I was given a steroid shot for the rash & tylenol for fever ;also prescription for Methylpred. It worked great. Now, after 2 months, I believe I am having side effects from the Methylpred. The instructions were to stay out of the sun whild taking Methylpred and for a while after the 6 days. It has been 2 months . When I get in the sun I break out in a rash that feels, looks & acts like a sunburn. I even peeled. I am 78 yrs old. I do not normally take drugs, so I had no idea I would be allergic to anything. The Pharmacy Dr. does not believe this side effect could last 2 months. What do you think? Ed

This is the second time I've had to take the Methylpred pack for six days. The first time was a year ago to relieve the swelling and pain from a broken foot. The only side affect I experienced at that time was extreme euphoria, then I went to the opposite extreme and wanted to sleep.
This time I'm taking the pack for arthritis in the same foot. I had to take 6 tablets in a period of 4 hours because I got it so late in the day. I had a horrible headache all night. Do NOT take this med with Naproxin (Aleve). I had the worst shakes I've ever had, racing heart and could not sleep. I checked with the pharmicist today and he said to take tylenol. I'm also experiencing the extreme mood changes, burning eyes, flushed face, and constipation. However, the pain and swelling in my foot has been aleviated. I'm not sure the side affects have been worth it though. There has to be a more natural way to treat this than by a medicine that causes this many side affects.

I'm on day 3 of Methylpred 4mg prescribed over the phone for bad hives. Helped some with hives but not complete relief of itching and welts. Day 3 came with a headache, light-headedness and mild chest pain. I'm not taking tonight's dose and am seeing my doctor tomorrow.

Went on a 6 day dose of methylpred to stop a 16 day migraine. (worked on 4th day) Side effects: cleared a 45 yr problem with eczema that NO ONE had cleared before! I have energy like I had at 25, I am an arithric 52 year old.
A problem I had with itchy skin, was taking 100 mgs of atarax a day, that problem is gone.
Can I stay on this stuff forever? I'm in love with it, what is this?! Tomorrow is my last day. :-( My house hasn't been this clean in years, I've cleaned my son's, too!

I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DRUG INTERACTIONS WITH METHYLPRED. I AM TAKING HYDROCODONE/APAP 5/500M FOR PAIN AND MELOXICAM 15MG FOR OSTEOARTHRITIS. I ALSO TAKE PROTONIX WITH THE MELOXICAM TO PROTECT THE STOMACH LINING. SHOULD I STOP THESE DRUGS WHILE I AM ON THIS DOSE PAK? SINCE I WILL BE STARTING THE DRUG FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE MORNING, I DON'T YET HAVE A SIDE EFFECT TO REPORT. THANK YOU.

I'm in my 30's. I have a similar experience with Guest #17721 posted Mon, 13 Feb 2006 with MethylPRED 4 mg on chest pain. Day 3 to 4, my neck & back muscles started aching. On Day 4, I felt easily angered and my heartburn feeling started. I ignored the slight discomfort thinking it was just stress related. Became concerned on Day 5 when the heartburn discomfort lingered, my right leg feels numb. I feel it was very likely induced by MethylPRED. I took 2 Asprins to ease the discomfort. I'll call my doctor tomorrow morning.

I am taking Methlypred for an allergic reaction. I was initially given Prednisone (which I had taken before with no serious side-effects other than insomnia) and had a fairly severe reaction. The methylpred does seem to be clearing up the allergy problems. The main side effects so far seem to be an occasional tingling, itchy feeling and belching shortly after taking the medication.

I have had severe pain for the past 5 years, stemming from 3 herniated discs, and then a fractured thoracic in 2004. I became so addicted to the pain, ( narcotic), meds, and didn't even know it. The pain meds kept me "high", until I went through physical withdrawls ( aka DT's), and never got relief from the pain as I did with methylpred. Last year, I was prescribed 4 mg. in a 5 day pack. This was a very heavy dose, and my nerves were shot! Thanks to our phamacist, I was able to get a prescription in a bottle, rather than a heavy dose by the "pack". Being able to take it "as needed", took the pain completely away. Unfortunaltly, if you have liver problems, as I do, it can take it's toll on your body. After high liver enzymes were revealed, I knew I had to get off of them quick. It is a good alternative to narcotic meds, but then , we all have pain in different ways. I prefer to suffer it out, but if I need meds, I'll only take Methylpred.

My dr. prescribes Methylpred 4mg pk when I have a cycle of migraine headaches that won't break. My main side effect is I want to sleep, and I am hard to wake up. My husband thought I was dead last night. I have used it several times, and it works to clear up the migraines.

Four days ago i had all four wisdom teeth removed after nearly two decades of constant migrains and other related pain.
While my quality of life has yet to show dramatic improvement due to the fact that i'm still recovering, i am hopeful.
The dentist prescribed two meds for me to take while recovering from the minor sugery. Meprozine and Methylpred (also know as methylprednisolone). The first two days have been a blur but i can remember sudden exhaustion and irritation at the least little thing. Now entering day five, still on both meds and a sudden drench in sweat for no reason sent up a red flag through the haze. I looked up both meds and the side effects. They are eerily familar in the mood swing department so i can't be sure where one side effect ends and the other starts.
I have felt weak, drained, lost memory, snaped and yelled over nothing and gotten upset to the point of begging my kids for a quiet moment and the frustration seems to just build.
Just a few moments ago i woke drenched in sweat on just the right side of my body.
I will be calling the doc's office first thing in the morning to discuss the option of a different pain managment. This is just not working or even worth it.

This is my second day taking methylpred for lumbar vetrebra swelling which causes pain down my left leg. I know I've taken this before but don't remember how I felt on it at that time. This time it's like I'm on high speed. I hardly slept last night. I had to end up take 1/2 xanax just to get a couple of hours of sleep. My pain in my back and leg is already feeling better. I do sense some anxiety and a little heaviness in my chest but I don't know if the medicine is causing this since I do have little bouts of anxiety every now and then - which I think is normal.

Methylpred was administered by injection to one of our cats at our local small animal hospital, to help change his mood and discourage him from biting his tail. Upon returning home, the cat behaved as though partially sedated, lying quietly in an out-of-the-way location. Because we expected some change in behavior, and because we have several other cats in the house, we did not pay particular attention to this cat. During the second night, between 24 and 36 hours after the injection, he died. He exhibited no signs of convulsion, vomiting, or sounds of discomfort. Although moderately overweight, this cat appeared in good health. We suspect heart failure, following increased blood pressure.

medicine and it can raise blood pressure and induce heart
failure on the warning. He said stop taking the medicine. He didn't have to tell me that, I stopped on my own.
