Was prescribed Cipro for a diverticulitis infection. Took the first dose right before bed and had immediate vertigo (could tell when I turned over in bed that my balance was off), slept and woke up remembering unusual vivid dreams. Had vertigo bad enough to call out sick. The vertigo continued so I called my doctor had asked to be switched and was given Levaquin. Didn't like the known side-effects of that either. Legs felt like tree stumps but that went away. Took Levaquin 2x without anything overt happening and infections cleared up. Recently had the same infection, once again prescribed. Skin started to have a burning, tingling sensation about 3-4 hours after taking. Woke up with hives on right arms and swollen tingling/burning lips with rather slight tingling/burning sensations off and on on face and body. I am allergic to penicillin, developing an allergy mid-way through a dose (having taken in before without any problems) where I broke out in itchy bumps all over my body, including the undersides of my hands and feet. This happened when I was around 9 or 10 years old. So even if a med is safe once you can still develop symptoms later. I have a call into my doctor, have no idea what they will prescribe next. I get bronchitis a lot and they usually given me the 3 days dosage of antibiotic, which *never* works and they they put me on a 10 days. Not as powerful but that might work. This bought of diver doesn't seem as bad as the past and already my gut feels better. I hate these meds but what can you do when you have a nasty bacterial infection that could kill you?

After being on YAZ for about 7 months and realizing how it was harmin my mind and body, my doctor told me to stop taking it immediately, even though it was mid-cycle. he put me on Loestrin24fe because "there has been a much higher success rate with a lower dose of estrogen" NOT IN MY CASE!

i started taking it on a Tuesday, it is now the following Monday and i have already experienced:
harsh aches and pains throughout my body, unbelievable mood swings from cryin until my eyes hurt for NO reason to sitting and talking calmly within 5 minutes of each other, once again a complete lack of sex drive which i *just* recovered from with YAZ, not being able to eat yet having extreme weight gain??? my stomach is completely round when i have had a 6pack for my entire adult life and my jeans will not get past my thighs anymore, my skin and hair are oily and i have broken out worse than i did when i was a teenager ...

and the BEST one yet! Severe Panic Attacks during the night to the point where i am terrified to sleep because of waking up hysterical and actually "feeling" my dreams. i woke up from a nap yesterday crying uncontrollably because i was convinced i snapped my spine/neck because i dream it, felt it snap and HEARD it snap in my dream. it is all too real and i am on lack of sleep AND not eating for a few days.

Needless to say, i have stopped taking the pill as of last night. i am hoping to get back to normal in about a week because i clearly cannot function like this. I missed a gorgeous Easter day yesterday because i was having a low grade panic attack ALL day and couldn't eat or even talk to anyone.

i am not going to let another bc pill ruin my life this year. its not worth it but i must ask, where do i go from here? i am concerned about getting an IUD because my body seems to have every side effect possible with any type of birth control but i think the IUD is my only option besides complete abstinence.

OMG I am so glad I found this side. I have just started taking Yasmin.

Previously I was on Mercilon and found that I got very nauseous a few days before my period was due (this happened a week ago on Friday) so I asked the doctor to change my pill and he prescribed Yasmin. I have IBS and last Wednesday I had a several attack (I was on my period as well). I then started taking Yasmin the next day. By Saturday I had to spend the day in bed as I felt so sick. I actually thought I was going to be sick. There is a bug going round work so thought it might of had something to do with that or my IBS. IT started to clear by the beginning of this week, but even now my stomach feels like someone has kicked me, I just cant eat (the thought just turns my stomach) and I feel sick ALL of the time. Today I realised that this is most likely due to the Yasmin. I am going back on Mercilon as of next month. I decided I would rather put up with one day of feeling sick than all the time! The doctor and the pharmastic told me to continue taking Yasmin till my period but I just cant do that. I am not covered this month anyway because I changed mid way through my period so I might as well not take it and be careful for a month.

My sister takes Yasmin and has no problems at ill but its the worst one I have ever taken. I had problems with Dianette as well but my body cant take the high Oestrogen levels. I think it is weird how a pill can work for one woman and not the next when effectively they do the same thing!

My thyroid troubles started in 1993. I am not sure how long before the discovery I had the problem. Mine started as a nodule on one side. I was immediately put on Synthroid and had to go see the Endo every 6 months for a biopsy. In 1995 I became pregnant. I had one more biopsy until after the birth of my daughter. The Endo told me he wanted to see me right away after she was born to do another biopsy. I had my suspisions, but didn't think anyhing until after she was born and went for my biopsy. Well, I had cancer. I went through the whole thyroidectomy, the 3 days isolation with radio-iodine, and every year to every few years after I had to go back and get the radio-iodine treatment, while not the high dose as the first time, it went with the complete body scan. In fact, I am due now, but don't have health insurance. My dose has been switched a lot, I have probably been on every dose from the lowest up to .200mcg, which has been the highest for myself.

Symptoms: pre-thyroid disease, I am 5'2. I was always 110-115 lbs, I was 22 yrs old and 120 lbs. when I married in 1993. I did notice gradual weight gain, probably because of my thyroid problems. I am sad to say that now I am around 180 lbs. I cannot seem to lose the weight unless I go on a total starvation diet. I managed to lose 10-15 lbs over the past summer, but unfortunately for me it has come back over the winter. I tried to stay as active as possible by going to stores and malls to walk around. I do for a fact notice that when my dosage for Synthroid goes higher, so does my weight gain. I was on .137mcg over the summer, and I think that was a good dose for me, that was through the regular dr. The Endo is the one who put me back up to .150mcg. My Endo told me the thyroid is a regenerative organ, so it CAN grow back. I guess they don't want that in case of cancer again, and I guess that is why he keeps me on higher doses.

I personally cannot stand it. I feel it is a horrible curse. I feel very robbed of my previous active life. I have been dealing with this now for 12 years not having a thyroid and being on this medication. I feel angry that I do not have the energy to do things with my 12 yr old and 3 yr old. I miss the way I was before having thyroid disease. I feel very sad when they come up to me asking to do certain things and they (nor anyone else I know for that fact) can understand that I just feel so whooped, and no energy. All I ever seem to want to do is take a nap. I have migraine headaches constantly, I am constantly tired. I cannot concentrate, I have some memory loss. My ex-husband, and my current husband too for that fact think I am just being lazy. Well, that is not so. There are moments when I do feel a burst of energy, but then, I have to use that burst to do the things I need to do around the house.

Pre thyroid disease I was always active, never tired, could do anything. After: TIRED, I was 24 in 1996 and felt like an old lady, dry skin, no matter how much lotion I put on. The tub is full of hair, while it doesn't come out in clumps and I still have thick hair, I have hair all over the place. Irritable, mood swings, happy to angry and the snap of a finger. I can have insomnia some nights, constipation, lots of the same stuff others have listed on this forum. Those side affects are the same no matter what dose I am on. And like I said the higher the dose for me, the more weight I pack on. It is instantanious. Over Christmas, and no, it wasn't from eating all the goodies, I gained a lot of the weight I had lost over summer back, and that was because a few weeks before, the Endo had put me on the .150 mcg.

Hi all! I just began taking YAZ two weeks ago and things were fine up until two days ago. I started experiencing itching on several parts of my boy an last night, realized I had hives on my waist at my back, near my underarms and have serious itching all over the rest of my body including the palms of my hands. Please, please, please if anyone reads this an has had similar side effects, please let me know. Furthermore, I did not take the pill last night as I knew this could be the only thing causing these issues. Does anyone know the reprecution of stopping the pill mid month? Please let me know and thanks for your help!

Post your symptoms since stopping Yasmin!!!

Hey everyone it's Kay21 here and I just wanted to post my 3 month off Yasmin update. Because stopping the pill is a hard decision, I figured we should all post are updates here to help/support those who are planning to stop or who have recently stopped Yasmin.

I have been off of Yasmin since April 17. As some of you already know, I was experiencing horrible side effects while on Yasmin for 3 years (particularly stomach problems, vaginal dryness, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and heart rate and anxiety).

The first 1 month off of Yasmin was okay. In fact, I felt the best I had ever felt in a while. My blood pressure and heart rate decreased and the migraines and muscle cramps went away. But when I hit the 2 month (8 week) mark, I felt HORRIBLE. I was severely depressed and anxious. I was crying all the time and felt a severe sense of DOOM! The physical symptoms also started to become problematic. The acne increased and I started growing more facial hair. The worse symptom, however, was that I started losing a ton of hair. I would lose stray hairs all day (probably about 200 a day). Since I have hit the three month mark, the hair loss has gotten MUCH WORSE! Now I am losing CLUMPS of hair all day. I have seen several doctors about this. Some say it's because of stress and a few (a derm, GYN and endo) say that hiar loss is common after stopping bcp. I have already loss about 1/3 of my hair.

I am also really concerned, because I have not had a period since April 22. So my doctor has put me on provera for 10 days to induce a period.

For those who have stopped Yasmin, what have your symptoms been (i.e. increased acne, weight gain, anxiety, etc.). Has anyone experienced hair loss? How long did it take to get a period???

Thanks...

My doctor prescribed Methylpred for post operative swelling. Mid-way through day one (of the 6 day course of treatment), I began to have the 'shakes'....... I seemed to become hypersensitive to pain and was unable to rest. In fact I found myself pacing and very restless. If I tried to sit, I would feel compelled to shake my foot....... Very disconcerting.

The following morning when I saw my doctor for my post-op visit, I mentioned my symptoms. Though I likely didn't need to; I was shaking and trembling so badly. He said my reaction was not uncommon and suggested that I skip 'day 2' and commence with 'day 3' level of medication. If the shaking was still bad and inhibiting me from sleeping; to skip to 'day 5'.

I have done so. I'm still shaking though perhaps not as badly. I can discern little inprovement in my swelling. Though I am continuing to use ice packs as he also directed me to do.

Over all I can't objectively say that this has helped my swelling or the expected discomfort cause by it. I will try to following through with the next several pills of Methylpred as my doctor suggested. I'm home now and my husband and I can sort of settle in for the next several days and moniter my situation.

I'm scheduled for my next post-op visit (to remove stitches) in 10 days. I anticipate that by then most of my swelling will have diminished considerably.

Personally I have to wonder if for post operative swelling; if the side effects I'm experiencing are worth whatever benefit the medication my offer.

I have been on ortho-tri-cyclen for about 6 years with regular side effects - weight gain, sore swelling breasts, but nothing i couldn't stand to have a regular (and short) period. HOWEVER, my gyno switched me to YASMIN so I went immediately after finishing a month of ORTHO and I thought it was just the switch that made me feel weird.
I AM NOT a HYPERSENSITIVE person this pill made me feel emotional, psycho, my breasts got gigantic...so I finished the one month then took a break from BCP all together for 5 months.
I JUST WENT BACK TO YASMIN after 7 days my ENTIRE TORSO is broken out in some sort of funky EXCEMA, with blotches everywhere. Going back on the pill was the only thing out of my ordinary, no new skin care, etc. I stopped taking it when I began to rule out my options so that was about 13 days into the pill. I started bleeding (that brown stuff) about 4 days later.
IS IT NORMAL to start bleeding after stopping the pill mid-way through? Will that bring it on?
Needless to say I had a 6 month supply of Yasmin in my closet and they are ALL in the garbage now.

My doctor prescribed Yasmin to me to help with the extremely painful periods I get. I had my 1st pill of Yasmin last night. I wish I had come across this website before taking the pill. I've developed Nausea, heartburn. My throat is burning. I'm STOPPING this crappy BCP right now. My only fear is that I might get another instance of painful period for stopping the pill mid way. Does any one know how long it takes to come back to normal if you only took 1 pill?
