I am a 25 year old woman with 3 kids. I was prescribed TOPAMAX 3 months ago. I am on 150mg a day. My DR. told me to take them at night before bed and I have to take a TYLENOL PM with it so I can sleep at night and drink 64 oz of water a day and 8 oz of citus a day to help flush out my kidney's, cause TOPAMAX does cause kidney stones. I was having about 17-20 migraines a month before getting on this medicine. They have cut down to about 5 but I take RELPAX and in about 30min my migraine is gone. People who don't know I am taking the TOPAMAX don't notice my side effects. I do have some side effects, memory loss, loss of concentration, I have lost about 15lbs with the help of dieting I was 134 now at 118, spelling, sometimes my words come out abit slured, my eyes are sensitive to light I need sunglasses to go outside,.I feel tired sometimes no matter how much sleep I get. Well I hope this helps...

Hi,
I started Yasmin generic (ocella) 3 weeks ago. After a few days I developed a headache that feels like constant pressure around my temples, eyebrows and in between nose. It does not go away with pain killers. I have no history of reoccurring headaches and when I have gotten one advil usually takes care of it.
After 2 weeks I decided to stop Ocella to see if that was the reason. I still have the headache a week later. I went to the dr. yesterday and he said it wasn't a sinus headache which I thought it might be. He said it might be a migraine even though it doesn't sound like a typical one. If it doesn't go away this weekend I'll have to get a Cat scan and maybe MRI. Does this sound familiar to anyone who got headaches from Yasmin? My dr. said BCP wouldn't cause a headache but several people on this site described it as a side effect. Input much appreciated.
Thanks!
C.

I am glad I visited this site... I am one of those people that take meds at first and then just "forget" and stop taking all together. I was prescribed Lisinopril 10mg- but never gave it a chance to get in my system. I think I took it for like a week (at bedtime) and would wake up with a killer migraine and nausea. Another time I felt kind of drunk with dizziness, loss of balance, etc. So I stopped taking it. Today I started feeling bad, and found out my blood pressure is pretty high,so I figured its time I buckle up and take my meds like I'm supposed to. I just happened to look the side effects up- I don't think I will be taking this again.

I have chronic migraine headaches and I was first prescribed Imitrex. All 4 times I gave it a chance it did not work. Since then, I have been prescribed 1 other migraine medicine which didn't work, a barbiturate to be taken just for headaches, which didn't work for the headache but made me very loopy then depressed, then a strong pain pill that did nothing for my headache but made me very relaxed, so I just layed on the bed for 4 hours. My doctor wanted me to get an MRI then go to a specialist who wanted to prescribe a medication that I would have to take 5 days a week. Now, I get kelation therapy once a month, which gets rid of high levels of metals and toxins in your body, and I have not had a bad migraine since, only a slight headache every once in a while.

I've been on the NuvaRing for over a year now and love it. I was having some of the symptoms that have been described here when I was taking a low-dose pill, but I discussed these issues with my doc. Luckily I have a great doctor and she explained how different birth controls have different levels of progesterone and estrogen and which ones contribute to which side effects. I'm guessing each of us has different natural levels of each hormone, so different birth controls react with us in different ways. Like I said, I LOVE the NuvaRing, but a friend in my office just got on it and is experiencing a severe migraine right now (that's what prompted me to look up the side effects). Her doc told her to insert a new one the day after she started her period (which is NOT what my doc told me!) and she's been suffering for about a week now while I've been fantastic. I think it's great that there's a forum here to discuss side effects, but as far as removing it from the shelves... I don't think that's a fair comment since it's working better for me than anything else I've tried. I would recommend telling your doctor EVERY SINGLE effect you're experiencing, and as someone else said, if your doc blows you off, get another one. We as women shouldn't have to suffer in our daily lives just because we're trying to be responsible in our sex lives! Good luck to you all, and I hope you do find something that works as well for you as the NuvaRing does for me!

I was put on Loestrin three weeks ago, and after being on it for 2 and half I've taken myself off of it. I've been on the pill for 7 years and was on Yasmin before I switched because I was having break through bleeding. With Loestrin I have been an emotional wreck, I can't go anywhere. I cry almost over anything and sometimes for no reason at all, and not a couple of little tears, sobbing hysterically. I had to stay home from an entire day of classes because I literally could not get out of bed the cramps and headaches were so bad (on the verge of a migraine which I never get). I've gained 7 pounds in these two and half weeks, I eat all the time. I am on adderall and usually have to make myself eat because I have no appetite, now it's all I do. It made me horribly anxious and depressed, and I didn't want to be social at all (not like I could because I would probably cry). This pill is awful. I also had spotting within the first week and bad spotting. I've been breaking out on my face more then I ever did before I was on the pill. I do not recommend this pill to anyone I much rather not have the positive side effects of birth control then take this.

My six year old daughter was given this medication for idiopathic generalized epilepsy. As soon as she started on this drug we noticed a complete personality change. She was a completely different person. She seemed to be possessed while on this medication. My daughter is a sweet little girl, and is very good for the most part, but when she started this medication it turned her into a monster. She was on this medication for about 2 months, and was taken off it when we got a second opinion. She has not been on any medications while we explore additional opinions for her condition (which is very unusual - she does not have seizures like most people do). I would not recommend this medication to anyone.

I was just prescribed the Imitrex nasal spray. I took it for the first time today. The first thing that happened was my nose felt like it was on fire then i had a horrible bitter taste in my mouth and the back of my throat. About 10mins after i took it i throw up and my stomach started to hurt. Plus the bitter taste was still there and nothing but time made it go away. My headache went away true enough but I would rather suffer a migraine then go through that again. And my headache came back not too long afterwards.

When a class action lawsuit is filed, let me know....this drug should be taken of off the market immediately. We started all of this with an OB/GYN that prescribed this “miracle pill” and now have had to go not only to our primary doctor, but also a psychiatrist, gastrenologist, college campus counselors, psychologists, psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctors; All the while, accumulating enormous doctor bills. All the doctors say, "No, Yasmin won't cause those problems" (except the college campus doctors..wonder why? Hmm.. could it be that they are not in private practice?)....well, I beg to differ. Everyone needs to give this website to their doctor so the doctors can hear from the patients that have taken this drug, and not listen to the pharmaceutical companies that are pushing this drug to be the "miracle pill". Maybe if enough people complain and go to the media, we can get rid of this drug!
My daughter who is 18 was put on Yasmin because of irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, etc. We were told it was the new “miracle pill”. It will make you loose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right.
She started taking this pill in March 2007. She was off at college but called to tell me she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. Then she said she got where she couldn’t eat when she went to a restaurant. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn’t clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous.
By June, not only could she not be in crowds, like at a restaurant, but now she is having full blown panic attacks and IBS. We called the OBGYN and they said, “Yasmin won’t cause this, go see your primary doctor”. I knew that the only thing that had changed with her was taking the YASMINE. I knew it had something to do with all of this so I “Googled Yasmin” and this website (http://www.medications.com/se/yasmin) was the first one I looked at. All of her symptoms matched everyone else’s! I am so glad we found this website, it explained everything and I had her to stop Yasmin immediately.
So we went to the primary doctor, explained about the Yasmin and how we thought it was the culprit of everything. Of course this doctor also says, “Yasmin won’t cause that”. We told him to look it up on the internet and see how there are over 3000 complaints on this drug, more than any of the other drugs on the market.
Besides the emotional problems she starting having, her pulse and blood pressure was sky high, so he puts her on medicine for that, and puts her on an anxiety medicine and sends her to a psychiatrist. She is very thirsty all the time, and develops IBS. She can’t eat without having pains in her stomach. So, now we’ve have gone from having just irregular periods, to all of the above, plus a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist doubles her medicine (and puts her Pamine for the IBS) because the panic attacks are gone, but she still is having a lot of nervousness, anxiety, can’t sleep at night, crazy thoughts, worrying all the time, etc. A month later he changes her medicine again, to Effexor. The first 2 weeks, she does okay, but the packet doubles the strength after 2 weeks. It takes 4 weeks for it to take full effect. Right after she doubles this medicine, it is like her senses are on hyper-mode. She can taste everything that is in her food (chili powder, seasonings, etc…), taste the metal in water, and she can hear someone’s phone vibrating, in another room.
Then she goes back to college at the end of August 2007, and it’s horrible. The Effexor is having bad, bad side effects. We called the psychiatrist that she was using at home and he doubled the dose. That was the worse thing they could’ve done. The side effects were worse than ever. I had her to immediately go to a psychiatrist on campus. She told him the whole story and he believed her! Needless to say we switched doctors. He then lowered her dose back down to ½ a dose and hopefully can slowly get her off of all this medicine.
The newest thing she has developed is being hypoglycemic. The campus psychiatrist sent her to a campus medical doctor and he told her that they would get to the bottom of this. He tested her for everything under the sun. Low blood sugar is the only thing they found. But, she hasn’t taken the Yasmin since May. No telling what the results would have came back like if it was done at the time she was taking Yasmin.
Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors there at the campus that believes that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes like 6 months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine, over a doctor who prescribes it.
If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this? For my child to have to go through all of this is ridiculous, not to mention costly. What do we know of the long term effects this drug will have if it is doing all of this when you first start taking it?
If you have the same concerns as me about this drug, and would be interested in looking into a class action lawsuit, please email: ****** I would be interested to see how many would want to pursue this.

Hi. I was on Topamax for about a year for severe pain in my foot. I had nerve pain on the front outside part of my foot so bad I could not walk. I am also a sufferer of chronic migrains and have been hospitalized several times a year for them. I stopped having migrains - didn't realize until now that it was probably the Topamax. I didn't know why they stopped and didn't know that Topamax was used for that. I took it for just over a year. 100 mg a day at bedtime. I lost 40 lbs, the pain in my foot went away, and I haven't had a severe migrain since. I have been off of it for abou 1 1/2 years now, but want to go back on it because of the weight loss and some other nerve pain I am having with my ciatic (sp?) nerve. I did experience tingling in my leg and toes and soda was flat. I didn't know what the leg tingling was from until I read this blog. I can deal with soda being flat because I really don't need the sugar!! I love Topamax. It worked GREAT for me!! The pros far outweigh the cons for me. But everyone is different!!

I have been taking Topamax since 2002 for migraines. I started out slow with 25mg at night for a week then 50, 75 then 100mg after one month. The following week I was suppose to start 25mg in the morning. I received headaches from that. I only stick with 100mg at night and have not suffered from a migraine since. Unless I am hung over. I did get the tingling in my hands and now I hate soda. Which to me is a good thing for all the sugar it has in it. However, when my script runs out and it takes me two or more days for a refill, I get extremely sick. Must be a withdrawel thing. So do not miss more than one day.

Hello, i just googled 'migraine with yasmin' and found this site, I have read through many of the posts, and feel that a lot of it is exaggerated scare mongering, however i have just started yasmin, i am on my 5th day and i am coming right off it. I have experienced, bad vision, extreme tiredness and migrain in the last 3 - 4 days.
Is yasmin really renound for having bad side affects? I am quite worried.

Im 17 and Yasmin is the first pill ive been on.
for the first month/two months, i had mood swings and I felt down. I have depression anyway, but not bad enough to take medication.
I carried it on and all the side effects have gone away.
I went to a festival a couple of weekends ago and I was due a period and my doctor said I could just carry onto the next pack of pills. So i did.
during the festival i was emotional, VERY tired and just ill.
i blamed the sun and the beer haha.
however after returning, i have slept constantly, not getting any more awake, im moody, touchy and I have been getting light sensitive headaches, and symptoms of migrains but never the full migrain at once. I have had a couple of rashes.
I have never had a migrain before and also i have good skin so rashes are rare for me too.
Im not sure if i get anxiety or panic attacks because i have always been an unconfident person so possibly its been worse.
Im going to the doctors next week to check it out, but my guess is that it is yasmin which causes it.
Its annoying because before it worked just fine for me.
oh well... I guess ill have another one now haha.

Hi Ladies...
How about headaches? Was on Yasmin for 4 years and have been off for about 6 weeks. For the last 3 weeks I have had the worst constant headaches you can imagine. Very migrain like-with lots of pressure in my eyes-sinus area. Anyone else with this...starting to wonder if it's something horrible like a tumor!

I have posted here before I am 4 months off Yasmin, and the majority of symptoms that everyone has while on Yasmin are over for me. I still am Anxious during the month but I am seeing a therapist for relaxation techniques, because I was tired of seeing doctors that just wanted to give meanti anxiety medication and get me out of their office. But here is something I thought everyone here would understand...my family sure didn't. So here is the backstory. I was on Yasmin for 5 months. On the fifth month I was at work at my whole right side went numb, my ear was ringing and I couldn't talk. I passed out, luckily I worked for the accounting dept of the hospital, a nurse just happened to be in our office, needless to say i was WHEELCHAIRED to the ER where I was diagnosed with a mild stroke. I stopped Yasmin that evening, only after finding this site and putting all the anxiety, weight gain, constant urination, mood swings, hair loss, constipation and everything else together, it has been a long road to recovery and my sex drive is SLOWLY returning. But here is the kicker. I went to the OBGYN to get my annual about a week ago and she asked me why I was no longer taking the pill, I told her everything about Yasmin, I had it written down so i wouldn't forget, and then I went on to tell her about the stoke I had in May and she told me "OH Yasmin didn't cause that, you probably had a migrain." I am still so pissed off at this woman, becuase we all know migrains make your body go numb and you cant walk or talk because of it!!! AM I the only one that this pisses off. I have never been so angry in my life. I really dont think that a lot of the OGBYN know anything about the side effects of these birth control pills. So thats my story I thought I would share. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE. Find a OB that you trust.

YASMIN IS EVIL!!!!!!!
Hi Girls,
I posted my Yasmin experience a few weeks ago and i urge you all to listen to your bodies! I lost some of my hearing, had a severe migrain for three weeks, dizziness, blurred vision, chest pains that would go into the left hand side of my body, cramps in my legs and toes and i thought i was going crazy! Not one doctor suggested that Yasmin might be causing all my pain.
I had to fork out $1000 for a bloodtest, catscan, five prescribed medications including pain killers and to see an Ear Nose and Throat specialist who charges $250 for 15 minutes!
I had a gut feeling that Yasmin was causing all my problems and when all my tests came back fine, i was truly convinced. I stoppped taking it immediatley, but when i fronted my doctor with all my symptoms she looked at me as if i was crazy and was adamant that Yasmin or any other B/C would not cause such severe side effects.
She then went and got her big medical book and looked up YASMIN and sure enough all of my symptoms were there in black and white. I knew more about this pill than she did, and she then said that i did the right thing coming off YASMIN as she was concerned that blood clots might be forming!!!!
I am furiuous that not one doctor questioned YASMIN, they truly believe that it is harmless and that severe side-effects are uncommon. But judging from this site we all know that YASMIN is doing more harm than good. I have been off YASMIN for two weeks now and all of my symptoms have gone. The first few days were so painful, it was as though YASMIN was slowly making its way out of m body.
I am so glad that i listened to my body, i knew that YASMIN was to blame and trust me I'm not crazy when i say that YASMIN IS EVIL!!! This pill has only been around for three years, not enough research has gone into it and the doctors are clueless! Please trust your instincts, not the doctors!
Feel free to e-mail me ****** if you need any advice or want to have a good bitch about YASMIN.
Thanks for your stories

My hubby has been on efexor for about 2 years, before that he was on prozac. Due to liver function tests my huband was told to start cut down his dose until he was down to 37.5 only" over a 2 week period". Hubby has now been on the 37.5 for about 2 months. He is in bed now cos w was feeling sick, dizzy and a migrain type headache." this same thing has happened alot now. He is always very tired moody and can sleep up to 3 hours in the day At night he wakes every 2 hours but does manage to go back to sleep after awhile but 2 hours later he's awake again. He itches till he bleeds but his sweating is much better. All in all I can see him going back down hill. He is very short tempered , tired and fed-up with everything.

I loved Yasmin at first. Helped with Acne and facial hair. Periods manageable and sometimes very light. Some PMS, but normal. I had breast tenderness that went away after about 4-5 months.
6 months into it. Severe anxiety and panic attacks. 8 months. Headaches that lasted 24 hours. Very specific spots that I could point to and other times all over pain. Also head sensations and dizzyness very regularly. OTC pain meds didn't work. Nothing helped. CT scan- that was clear. Migrain meds - pointless. Narcotics (Xanex) has become a regular pill to take. Scary.
10 months into it. Leg pains in my calves.
The anxiety, headaches, dizzyness, aches and pains...all of it I didn't attribute to the pill and then suddenly....I just said "it's got to be the pill" My quality of life is horrible.
And so after 12 months on Yasmin, I just stopped yesterday and I'm praying that I will feel normal in a few days.
I wish it would have worked b/c I thought it was working so well for me. No weight gain, good sex drive, clear skin. I was boasting about it to all my girlfriends for months.
It's very disappointing, but at the same time, I am glad to be going hormone free again.
Good luck to all!

I am a 30 year old mom of 2, got Mirena inserted in December after I had my 2nd. In January I started having dizziness and went to an ENT and have been seeing a neurologist since, have been on 4 different migraine medications for "migraine dizziness" which now reading this board I realize it is most likely the Mirena which has cause my dizziness. My symptoms are dizziness, tired, heavy head, lack of sex drive, overall pregnancy feeling (sore breasts, bloated, hungry) I am getting it out on Wednesday. How long does it take to normalize once it is out??
