Chantix immediately eliminated the effects of nicotine on my brain. I smoked like crazy for the first couple of days, trying to get SOMETHING out of a cigarette, quit completely on day 8 and once I got past the crankiness and depression, the only side effects I'm having are gas and constipation. So I take milk of magnesia on a regular basis now (LOL), but I haven't had a cigarette in two weeks.

I never had any weird dreams, but the week of depression was tough. I really want to quit, so I'm willing to put up with the withdrawals. I just needed something that made me not want another cigarette. Chantix is it for me.

As an aside, I tried Zyban about two years ago and ended up with hives from the top of my head to my knees, coming in waves (Zyban is time released) and lasting an entire week. Different medications affect people in different ways.

I believe that all of the side effects I have had are the same as the side effects I would have if I had quit cold turkey after 32 years of smoking. Chantix just took away the desire to smoke and made cigarettes taste really awful!

I am a 65 year old man in reasonably good health. I had never experienced BP issues until recently, and when I found it was elevated, went to my internist about 2 months ago for that, and a general wellness assessment. After many tests, he determined that excess weight, and the BP should be addressed, so I was prescribed a fluid pill Chlorothalidone 25 mg and lisinopril 10 mg. After a week or so, I noticed a marked effect regarding the taste of food. Things I always ate ceased to appeal to me. Otherwise, I was feeling decent. About 3 weeks ago, I went back in for a checkup, and my BP was not responding to suit him, so he increased the lisinopril dosage to 20mg per day. Within 2 days or so, I began having trouble sleeping, tossing and turning, and having spazzed out dreams to the point of halucinations, and was up and down all hours of the night. More significantly, it felt like my guts were being blasted by a flame thrower, or for a better description, a leprechaun slinging a chain mace around in my insides 24/7. During this process, I have experienced momentary vertigo, and have lost what I feel is 75 percent of my energy. I am not a couch potato, and work 5 days a week. I am sluggish in the morning, and by 1 or 2 in the afternoon, could lay down on my office floor and go sound to sleep. I now have chills and flu-like symptoms off and on throughout the day. I have taken every conceivable antacid, pepto, milk of magnesia(which oddly seems to help) where nothing else does. The bottom line for me is that I feel this drug has transposed a fairly healthy person into a virtual zombie within about 6 weeks. My wife found this site on the internet, and after reading these responses of so many of you, having absorbed your comments, with the exception of the cough and shortness of breath, I am suffering identical effects. I will not be taking this medication again, and also will not take a brush-off from my physician. I have determined, because of these increasingly debilitating side effects, it would be far better to live with high BP or switch to another medication, and and at least drop dead in peace and comfort in a relatively high degree of normalcy, rather that what I have been going through. It has been rather easy for me to be able to tie my symptoms to this medication, given the information I now have on it, because in all my life, I have never experienced what has been happening to me in the last 5 or 6 weeks, described best in my mind as having constant influenza. I have taken my last lisinopril, and will see the internist next week in this regard.

It's been a couple of week since I've stopped taking Levaquin (5 days for bladder infection) but am still suffering from terrible muscle pain and weakness. My whole body hurts. I am also allergic to sulpha drugs but apparently it is not supposed to be related. I had a rash all over, fever, headache, mental fogginess, muscle pain and now I'm just left with the terrible muscle pain and swelling. I read somewhere that Milk of Magnesia can help get rid of toxins. I can't believe taking something for 5 days can cause effects that can last for weeks, possibly months or years.

Oops! Excuse the entry below. I goofed & hit the wrong key.
Anyhoo, here is my Levaquin story. I am 51 & was diagnosed with cellulitis on Jan. 19th of this year. I was given an IV drug, (Daptomyacin) & 500 mg of Levaquin for 16 days. Towards the end of the treatment, my joints became very achy. (mostly in my knees) I was having burning, tingling sesations throughout my body & my calves were cramping. One week after treatment, I could barely walk through our house. I normally am active, with daily walks & short jogs. Within days, I had to have knee surgery. It is now almost 5 weeks past my surgery. The achy joints, burning, cramping & tingling are still present off & on throughout my body. Although the orthopaedic surgeon did find trauma in my knee, (past fractures, etc.) I am convinced the Levaquin sped up & exacerbated the damage. Now my other knee is hurting so bad, I am starting to think that one will need surgery as well. Both my orthopaedic surgeon the infectious disease Dr. that prescribed the Levaquin dismiss the notion that Levaquin had anything to do with it or that my joints are aching because of the drug. I am thrilled I find this site, because I realize that I haven't imagined these symptoms. But the reality of these reactions is quite sobering. I have never had a bad reaction to a drug in my lifetime. This one was so sudden & severe, I had to add my account to this list. I've just started trying the Milk of Magnesia & hope it works. I too have been drinking lots of water. God bless each of you out there suffering with this & may we find some solutions soon.
