I am a 44 year old women that has been dealing with asthma almost my entire life on and off.But I started a new job(housecleaning)and I believe it started up my asthma. So after having to use my albuteral inhaler a couple times a day,I decided to see my dr.He put me on advair. The first day I started taking it I was breathing so much better.I thought this is it!I finally found the miracle pill!Well about 5 days or so into it I started getting a really bad sore throat. The kind that is deep down-maybe in your larynax or whatever. And yes-I rinsed really good after every use.Well I ended up in the e.r. at 12:00 at night.I could hardly swallow and it felt like something was stuck in my throat. They gave me an ekg and did a neck xray on me.Dr. told me it was most likely from advair and to stop using it now and he put me on prednisone for 5 days.I called my doctor that put me on it 2 days later and told him what happened. He said huh,I wonder why that happened?Anyways, now he prescribed singulair to me but after reading all the negative comments I am not sure what the hec to try?I have missed 3 days work.I will most likely change jobs.I am real weak and anxious.Probably from prednisone.Anyone have any ideas on what works best for asthma that has few side effects?HELP!

OMG!!! I thought I was the only one feeling like I was losing my mind on this stuff. Since I've been taking Yaz, I've had zero sex drive. If I'm lucky I might get 20min of a good sex drive. I've also had mood swings that make Naomi Campbell look like a two year old having a tantrum. I've had more arguments with my husband in one day, than I've had in our entire relationship. I cry about everything. Sometimes I cry and I don't even know what I'm crying about. Yaz is the worst thing on the market.

I have had temporal lobe epilepsy/ partial seizure disorder since I was thirteen. I was put on Lamictal, serzone, inderal, tegretol and a host of other things for atypical migraine disorder (which we thought I had until I was diagnosed as having partial seizure) and NOTHING got rid of my seizures until I tried KEPPRA. I call it my miracle pill. I take 500mgs 2x day and the only thing I experience is lethargy. I take small naps here and there but nothing that really is debilitating. I may have a lower libido and be slightly dry eyed but compared to the benefits for me it's worth it.

I've been taking WB xl 150mg for 12 days. I also take Effexor XR and Lamictal to treat bipolar. I've been feeling so depressed for about 4 weeks without any cause and I wanted to stop smoking. My doctor thought maybe I was experiencing SAD. I totally withdrew from my friends and would only leave the house to go to work. I just felt numb and like I couldn't get out of bed. I started feeling better almost immediately after starting WB! I did have a splitting headache and neck pain for about a week but now it's completely gone! My smoking cravings were gone within 3-4 days. I have no desire to pick up a cigarette even if I think about it for a while. I feel very calm yet extremely focused and energetic. My numbness is gone and it feels great to be able to cry and experience emotions again. I am LESS angry and I've quit snapping at people - which I used to do constantly. I still wake up several times during the night, which is new, but I try to rest during the day and go to bed earlier. My hunger does go up and down - sometimes I eat everything, other times I have no appetite. Really the only big side effect I have at this point is muscle and joint pain. There is no miracle pill. Sometimes you have to use mind over matter also.

I was prescribed the 5-day Z-pack for bronchitis and after two days I quit taking it. I am not psychologically and emotionally perfect (who is) but this drug is causing extreme agitation, nervousness, hard intense dreams that leave me fatigued even after a full night's sleep, and depression with crying spells. I am aware that this drug stays in your bloodstream for a long time. It's half-life is 68 hours and after taking 500 mg. on Feb. 6 and then 250 mg. on Feb 7, I still have somewhat less than 200 mg. in my blood today, Feb. 13. Even at today's level I still have no relief from my symptoms and I am praying that this will all go away when the level of the drug gets to a certain point.
My bronchitis is gone and I am trying to live my life as if I have no symptoms (I teach 7th grade U.S. History) but I cannot ignore the fact that I feel like I am cracking up.
I am not trying to bash this drug. Most people are fine with it. Good for them. But some people have these types of problems because I have seen stories like mine on many internet places.
Hang in there anyone who is suffering like me. I hope it goes away and I can return to my life where I get nervous now and again and maybe once in a while I do not sleep well.
This is horrible.
Anyone who has gone through this and returned to normal please respond. I need to hear some good news.

Its the absolute worst. I had been on Yasmin for 2 years and my Dr. switched me to Femcon. I cant even explain. After two years I finally felt like myself again. Yasmin gave me crazy head ached, anxiety, and intense emotional moods swings for no reason. My friends though I was loosing it. Now Ive been on Femcon for 6 months and its amazing. Theres no weight gain, MUCH better skin, and no breakthrough bleeding. I think Femcon is the miracle pill! Plus my breast grew one full cup size with no weight gain. : ) I'm telling you its a miracle!

I have been on Topamax for a little over a year. I've had most of the side effects; tingling, numbness in the fingers, dry mouth, forgetfulness, and weight loss - love the weight loss. All the side effects have sort of slowed down as I've been on the medication longer. The weight loss has slowed and I've even began to get my appetite back- I'm afraid I'm going to start gaining weight now! I've lost about 40 pounds and I needed to lose it, so that was wonderful. I've had a very hard time losing weight all my life so this was wonderful.
I was addicted to Coca Cola and this med also helped me kick that habit because I lost my taste for the carbonation.
Does anyone know if the weight loss usually evens out after about a year or a year and a half? I need to lose about 30 more pounds and was hoping that I would continue losing weight!
Anyway, I was on the Topamax for headaches and it has completely helped that! It has truly been a God-send for me. Other than monthly hormone headaches, I don't get migraines hardly at all!
I am wondering about having my doc up my dosage for the weight loss aspect????

Oh my goodness, you'd think this stuff was evil in a pill. ALL birth control pills, and hormonal methods of birth control (and medication for that matter) has side effects. Everyone's body is different. I have severe migraines, but taking a pill with a higher estrogen level makes it much worse. Not to mention Yasmin was my fourth try before I was comfortable on the pill again after a long time BCP free. I suffered through break-through bleeding, constant bleeding, turning into satan, constant PMS symptoms, infections, migraines, you name it. Finally, I found Yasmin and I lost a little weight and my periods remained the same (sometimes too long, sometimes too painful, but that never changed with any of them -- and I hear the same thing with the new "miracle" pill Yaz), and I was fine. I have spent time off of Yasmin, simply because I was ill and on antibiotics so I didn't fill a couple of months worth, and I noticed no difference in the before and after (other than having to use condoms in the meantime).
I've been on Yasmin for three years, absent two months. Everyone's body is different, everyone reacts differently, and this site is NOT this place to get the information you need to make a decision about medication. A starting point maybe, then go off the pill, see how you fill (talk to your doctor first). What's not being taken into consideration is other medications these users are on, ages, individual physical illnesses or situations, or other things that could be reasons or interferences with the pill. Good luck ladies. :)
Oh, and an acne tip... rather than putting more chemicals into your bodies, try Proactive. I had AWFUL skin in areas that nothing worked for, from cheapest to most expensive to prescribed. I started using it in 1996 or so and my skin is perfect. I use it now because it keeps my face clear and makes it radiant, and I don't even have to use it every day. I don't have to wear ANY make up on my skin at all. Something to think about instead of putting worrying about trying to find a BCP that works for you and for your skin. :]

When a class action lawsuit is filed, let me know....this drug should be taken of off the market immediately. We started all of this with an OB/GYN that prescribed this “miracle pill” and now have had to go not only to our primary doctor, but also a psychiatrist, gastrenologist, college campus counselors, psychologists, psychiatrist, and the campus medical doctors; All the while, accumulating enormous doctor bills. All the doctors say, "No, Yasmin won't cause those problems" (except the college campus doctors..wonder why? Hmm.. could it be that they are not in private practice?)....well, I beg to differ. Everyone needs to give this website to their doctor so the doctors can hear from the patients that have taken this drug, and not listen to the pharmaceutical companies that are pushing this drug to be the "miracle pill". Maybe if enough people complain and go to the media, we can get rid of this drug!
My daughter who is 18 was put on Yasmin because of irregular periods, hormonal imbalance, etc. We were told it was the new “miracle pill”. It will make you loose weight, regulate your periods, clear up acne, you name it, it will fix it. Yeah, right.
She started taking this pill in March 2007. She was off at college but called to tell me she was experiencing horrible headaches, behind the eyes. She complained about her stomach hurting, but we just figured it was the stress of freshman year at college. Then she said she got where she couldn’t eat when she went to a restaurant. When she came home in May for the summer, I noticed a total personality change. For example, she was always a neat freak, and now she wouldn’t clean her room. The first day when she drove home, she started crying she was so mad about the traffic. Yes, she has always had a little road rage, but this was ridiculous.
By June, not only could she not be in crowds, like at a restaurant, but now she is having full blown panic attacks and IBS. We called the OBGYN and they said, “Yasmin won’t cause this, go see your primary doctor”. I knew that the only thing that had changed with her was taking the YASMINE. I knew it had something to do with all of this so I “Googled Yasmin” and this website (http://www.medications.com/se/yasmin) was the first one I looked at. All of her symptoms matched everyone else’s! I am so glad we found this website, it explained everything and I had her to stop Yasmin immediately.
So we went to the primary doctor, explained about the Yasmin and how we thought it was the culprit of everything. Of course this doctor also says, “Yasmin won’t cause that”. We told him to look it up on the internet and see how there are over 3000 complaints on this drug, more than any of the other drugs on the market.
Besides the emotional problems she starting having, her pulse and blood pressure was sky high, so he puts her on medicine for that, and puts her on an anxiety medicine and sends her to a psychiatrist. She is very thirsty all the time, and develops IBS. She can’t eat without having pains in her stomach. So, now we’ve have gone from having just irregular periods, to all of the above, plus a psychiatrist.
The psychiatrist doubles her medicine (and puts her Pamine for the IBS) because the panic attacks are gone, but she still is having a lot of nervousness, anxiety, can’t sleep at night, crazy thoughts, worrying all the time, etc. A month later he changes her medicine again, to Effexor. The first 2 weeks, she does okay, but the packet doubles the strength after 2 weeks. It takes 4 weeks for it to take full effect. Right after she doubles this medicine, it is like her senses are on hyper-mode. She can taste everything that is in her food (chili powder, seasonings, etc…), taste the metal in water, and she can hear someone’s phone vibrating, in another room.
Then she goes back to college at the end of August 2007, and it’s horrible. The Effexor is having bad, bad side effects. We called the psychiatrist that she was using at home and he doubled the dose. That was the worse thing they could’ve done. The side effects were worse than ever. I had her to immediately go to a psychiatrist on campus. She told him the whole story and he believed her! Needless to say we switched doctors. He then lowered her dose back down to ½ a dose and hopefully can slowly get her off of all this medicine.
The newest thing she has developed is being hypoglycemic. The campus psychiatrist sent her to a campus medical doctor and he told her that they would get to the bottom of this. He tested her for everything under the sun. Low blood sugar is the only thing they found. But, she hasn’t taken the Yasmin since May. No telling what the results would have came back like if it was done at the time she was taking Yasmin.
Thank goodness she has counselors and doctors there at the campus that believes that Yasmin can cause all of these problems, and are working with her. From what I have read from the people that have used this medicine, although most doctors do not agree, Yasmin takes like 6 months to get out of your system. I think I am going to believe the testimonials of the people who take this medicine, over a doctor who prescribes it.
If everyone goes to the media, their doctors, the FDA, congressmen, and make them aware of these horrible effects, surely we can get this drug off of the market! Does anyone know a class action lawyer that would pursue this? For my child to have to go through all of this is ridiculous, not to mention costly. What do we know of the long term effects this drug will have if it is doing all of this when you first start taking it?
If you have the same concerns as me about this drug, and would be interested in looking into a class action lawsuit, please email: ****** I would be interested to see how many would want to pursue this.

I have been on yasmin for two years; I just quit a little over two weeks ago. I have been experiencing gradually thinning hair since 18 months ago(about 6 months into taking the yasmin.), and a slew of other problems such as blurry vision, severe depression, flaking skin, shooting pains in my head, twitching eye, (I had no idea this was related to the yasmin until I saw it posted here dozens of times!), diarrhea after eating, splitting nails, eyelash loss, increased facial hair growth (???- thought yasmin took care of that???), and scariest of all, over the past two months, sporadic leg cramps. One day it was so bad that my calf seized uo, and I ended up at the ER thinking I was having a clot; even with insurance, that ER visit and sonogram cost me nearly two hundred dollars. I feel that I've lost myself to this pill, adn I'm scared that I'll never return. It's been terrible all along, and I wish I quit sooner so badly. Doctors prescribe this crap thinking it's the miracle pill of the new millenium, and in reality, it is utter hell. My skineven began wrinkling (I'm only 32 and come from a family of very young looking women), and my hair has dried out and lost it's curl. I'm scared to death that I'm going to go bald over the next few months- (does everyone lose their hair when they go off? I looked at so many posts and not many women are complaining about thisside effect of quitting the pill.) In short, this pll is awful, and it took almost two years for the hell of it to kick in. I'd seriously tell everyone on it to get off, as soon as possible. I'm desperate to regain my old life, my old health, and my old looks. I feel like a fifty year old woman in a thirty three year old's body. I'm so sad.

I am getting ready to wean myself off of 150mg after being on effexor for about 2 years now for post-partum depression and anxiety disorder. To me, this drug has truely changed my life, and yes, I have had most of the side effects, but not bad enough to stop taking it. What I have noticed in everyone's terrible review of the drug is the side effects when you stop or forget a dose- what you must remember is that this is messing with chemicals in your brain. It is not something that is a miracle pill with no side effects. And it should DEFINETLY NOT be stopped cold turkey!! I feel so bad for you who think that is the right thing to do. This is a powerful drug for a reason- you MUST wean off of it. Your brain is going to have to get used to making these chemicals by itself- no easy task. Please heed my advice and stop blaming the drug company for your side effects- they are a natural healing process, no matter how tough they are. God Bless.

Like so many others, I'm extremely grateful that I found this site! Going off Yasmin wasn't a planned event, rather something very serendipitous thanks to Japanese customs, who have been holding my pills due to some kind of processing delay. It's been about a week since I've been off Yasmin, and already I feel so much better. I didn't even think that my symptoms and Yasmin were related because my GYN, like so many other women's GYNs, made Yasmin sound like the miracle pill. When I first went on it in August of 2004 I experienced a wave of side-effects - nausea, headaches, leg cramps, spotting - but these had been warned about so I thought it was normal. The first wave of side effects disappeared, and then around January the second wave set in. These are the side-effects so many women on this site have experienced - depression, uncontrollable crying *all the time*, rushes of anger (also completely uncontrollable - I almost broke my hand punching a wall, and I'm a very laid-back woman), weight gain, loss of my sex drive, and worst of all the nebulous feeling described as 'loss of self'.
I would not recommend this pill to anyone... it is quite insidious. Thanks to Japanese customs and my supporting husband I've discovered sooner, rather than later, that Yasmin has been the culprit for all the changes. I am not, thankfully, losing my mind.
And thanks to all the women who have posted here for sharing their experiences with Yasmin. It's good to have the information out there for all those in the same boat.

I've had just about all of them in the last 6 months. I've taken Yasmin for 2 years. The first year was relatively symptom free. I even lost 15 pounds, that I've been able to keep off the entire time. I bragged about the RX to friends who may be interested and thought it was the miracle pill. I starting taking the pill about 2 years ago to regulate my period and ease PMS symptoms, which it did for over a year.
However, in the last few months, I've had the following symptoms and thought I was just premenopausal
Mood swings
Fogginess, loss of concentration
Not caring about anything
Totally unmotivated
severe stomach pains, cramps bloating
heart palpatations
bladder pain
night sweats
and the most bothersome of all insomia, so bad I started taking Ambien regularly to sleep, which has it's own set of side affects.
I just got off of Yasmin 4 days ago. So I'm now going through the crampting and bloating from doing that. I hope I get back to a semi-normal life style. I work full time and go to school and not being able to concentrate really stinks.

I am sitting up at 1 o'clock in the morning reading all of your entries because I am experiencing yet another sleepless night since starting Yasmin. I have been taking it for just over 2 weeks now and cannot tell you how glad I am that I have stumbled upon this information.
My side effects have included: Extreme lethargy, extreme muscle fatigue (think noodles), dry eyes, irritability and bipolar mood swings, extreme anxiety, constipation, upset stomach, BLOATING (I look and feel 6 months pregnant), insomnia, constant peeing and urinary spasms, shortness of breath, lower leg cramping at night, constant hunger
I am going to stop taking this pill immediately. I don't understand why the doctors love it so much. My doctor couldn't say enough good things about it. He really did make it sound like a miracle pill. It was definately not for me!!

hmm.
ok.
not good.
I have been taking microgynon for 2 months - during which time i have put on weight and a week before each period would have eaten a pint of worms to not feel as depressed as i did.
coupling this i put on stacks - (hey it may stop you getting pregnant but it just make you look and feel 6 months pregnant!)
i had heard that Jasmin would help prevent this due to it's lower doses, so would help not only the side effects like the screaming banshee rearing her head, but would also help reduce weight and help with clearing the skin.....
so you guys - have just ruined my big exciting venture into taking this 'miracle' pill...
soooooo....... whats the deal huh?
we all want the same thing, the same results, what IS the best bloody pill to take???
damn things - i hate the whole package of it all... it's not like our bodies are REALLY going to accept anything is it - it's un-natural, and it does'nt seem fair we have to go through so much s**t either.
if anyone knows of a good one - speak - and quick!
peace & love to every single one of you x

I must post this comment! My daughter started taking Yasmin in mid August - the same day she went far away to college. She had always experienced severe back pain around her periods and her periods were very irregular. So her doctor suggested Yasmin and she decided to give it a try. The back pain did not improve and she bled heavier but my WARNING here is that she became severely depressed and extremely exhausted. She did not want to do anything but sleep and would cry all the time. At first I thought she was home sick being so far away at college and I felt completely helpless. When I talked to her on the phone she sounded like a little girl curled up in the corner in a dark room. I prayed and prayed and feel like my prayers were answered by being directed to this web site. I was appalled when I read what all these women are experiencing when they are on Yasmin. I immediately called my daughter and told her to read this web site. She called me back sobbing and said she was stopping the pill that day. That has been 2 weeks now and I am telling you all that she is now back to her old self - very perky, wanting some adventure, hanging out with friends and meeting new ones. She still gets a little tired (now THAT could be college life) but she is no longer experiencing the depression and severe exhaustion. Her other side effects were a breakout in her complexion and some bloating.
If you are experiencing severe sadness, exhaustion and irritablility and don't know why since taking Yasmin GET OFF IT NOW. I think every person who has made a posting on this web site should send a similar letter to the FDA. It's the only way they will know this "miracle" pill is far from a miracle.

I'm not sure; I don't feel like myself on this pill, but I've just been told that that is what a birth control pill will do to you. Do I just try to wait it out for a while or switch pills? All I know is that I'm tired of feeling like this, but if all pills are the same, then should I even bother switching?
