I finally got the Mirena after 2 years of begging to be sterilized and only being turned away. I had it inserted in July 2008. I did bleed for 2-3 weeks after the insertion. Then a month and a half later I spotted for 2 days. That's it... I haven't bled since and to be honest it's driving me freaking crazy. This reminds me of being pregnant. I would have never gotten this had I known this would happen. My doctor said exactly the same thing the commercial said... "Missing periods is common in the first few months, followed by shorter, lighter periods... etc etc." Well, how many more months do I have to go through to get a period? Plus, my mood is terrible, worse than it ever was on any birth control pill. I had awful back pains a few weeks ago, so bad I couldn't even bend all the way over. I went to my doctor who did an XRay... everything was fine. Now I'm having chest pain and at times feel like I can't breathe. I cannot stand this device anymore. I consulted my Ob/Gyn and demanded that she removed it. NOW she wants to talk about sterilization (why didn't she just do this in the first place?). This is ridiculous.... I am so miserable.... to the point I almost break down and cry every time I see that stupid commercial with that stupid woman and her stupid husband and kids. I am at the end of my rope with this... I'm ready to reach down there and yank it out myself! This darn thing was obviously invented by a man!!!!

I have an appointment to get the Mirena put in next Wednesday, but reading all these side effects that some of you have had, I don't think I'm going to get it. I am proned to yeast infections and uti's especially. Anyway, I went to the Mirena website and I found this at the bottom. Maybe you all could write or call this number to tell them about the negative side effects that you're having.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT MIRENA®:
Only you and your healthcare professional can decide if Mirena is right for you. Mirena does not protect against HIV or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Candidates for Mirena have had a child. Mirena is not appropriate for women who are or may be pregnant; or who may have a distorted uterine cavity; acute genital infections including pelvic inflammatory disease; cancer of the cervix, uterus, or breasts; unexplained vaginal bleeding; or acute liver disease or tumors (benign or malignant). In rare cases, perforation or embedment may occur. Mirena may become completely or partially dislodged. In the rare event you think you're pregnant, contact your healthcare professional without delay to be evaluated for ectopic pregnancy. Ovarian cysts may occur and typically disappear. Persistent cysts should be evaluated. Missing periods or irregular bleeding is common in the first few months, followed by shorter, lighter periods.
You are encouraged to report negative side effects of prescription drugs to the FDA.

I am on my first month of taking this pill. I am on the last brown pills I only have two brown pills left and no period, despite the fact that I am sexually active I just do not think I am preg. we use condoms EVERY time and also pull out while using condoms so i just don't see it... also i feel like I have gained about 3 pounds nothing huge, but enough to make me feel like a fatty. I just switched to this pill after 4 months on yaz, but I had spotting and long painful periods on that. The gyn gave me a month of femconFE and then prescribed me ovcon 35 and said it's the same but some of you ladies said it's not so I am only hoping for something different. I feel very sore and headaches and I cry much more than I used to. I am normally not the type of person to cry but i just have been getting too emotional over nothing, I am definitely thinking it's this pill so i will be on Ovcon 35 in 2 days I am hoping for something better.

I've been on this thing for about 3 days. I've been feeling nautious since the first day, but at first it would be mild & would go away within a few minutes. Tonight I'm lying in bed, dying with stomach pains, not cramps, intense stomach pains. Nausea...... stomach pains again. Nausea..... pain again. I ran to the bathroom like 5 or 6 times to puke and eventually gave up. I look like a freaking whale, too. I'm a little 110lb girl but I've gained easily a few pounds in the past few days and it shows. My dad slapped me on the stomach today & asked me if it was "a new addition to the family." My lower stomach area is all bloated. Just sitting here I can feel my stomach churning. Anyone else feeling my stomach pains? I mean really.

I am finishing up my 4th week on Femcon and it's been hell. I have polycystic ovarian disease and i'm used to taking bc, I have been for almost 10 years but recently started missing periods and having random breakthrough bleeding so my doc switched me to femcon since it's a higher dose of estrogen... I've had headaches, bloating, water retention, nausea, vomiting, severe acne, nose bleeds, mood swings, cramps, the heaviest period i have ever experienced, night sweats, heartburn, rapid heart beat, trouble breathing, fatigue and the list goes on... basically what everyone else has said i have had too. my doc won't take me off until i've tried it for 3 months but i don't think i'm going to wait that long... this is just horrible... it should be taken off the market. i'm going to look into filing a complaint with the fda about this pill.

I started taking Loestrin in march or april, i cant really remember, because i was missing periods for months at a time and having negative pregnancy tests. I got diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and they prescribed this to me to have a normal period....NORMAL!!! yeah right. If normal is skipping some months, bleeding multiple times in a month and passing clots the size of a golf ball or worse. I stopped taking the pill for two months and it seemed like everything was back to normal, then had a pregnancy scare so started it up again. it just got worse, way worse. I've been losing my hair, crying for no reason and have had crazy bleeding with no cause. I'm tired of being poked and proded trying to find out what the problem is when it could just be this pill. I'm probably switching to a pill with changing hormone levels cause this crap isn't worth it. I worked too long to grow my hair just to lose it to the pill. wish me luck.
