I finally don't feel so alone. I got into poison ivy on June 1. On June 12th I finally went to my md to get something to take for it to go away. I had been treating it with calamine, topical stuff and taking Benadryl.... She gave me a shot which actually made it all go away within two hours. BUT, she also loves giving out pills, so she gave me the Dexpak. I took it for 7 days and my heart was beating uncontrollably. I didn't get REM sleep for 5 straight days. I took myself off. Cold turkey, yeah, I know you're not supposed to do that, but that stuff was killing me. So finally after having a meltdown in my office at home, my husband and I went back to her to see what she could do for me. She said oh, just go home, drink some wine and get some sleep.
I went home, drank two glasses of wine (which after doing research is NO combination with with high powered drug and she should have known better!!) Took a really hot bath, tried to get sleep. My husband took off work for three days to try to get me sleep.... finally we went to the ER because my heart wouldn't stop pounding so fast. The ER drugged me with some serious sedatives. I had a reaction to those and had a panic attack in the ER, so their solution: strap her down (bruised my wrist) and take her to a psychiatric unit for "symptoms of schzitophernia." So I was basically in a room with a bunch of people that can't control themselves. I did get 8 hours of sleep and regained all cohesive control. I was still groggy from the sedatives, but I knew what was going on. The nurses were the rudest people I have EVER been in contact with. No wonder the patients were in fits! After 5 hours of me and my husband (who was downstairs with my Mom) they finally released me. I talked to the discharge nurse and she said that if I sign a form releasing myself "against medical advice" that insurance might not pay for it. I said, are you kidding me? I would rather pay to get out of here than sit here one more minute with these people.
It was the worst medical experience I've EVER had. I have since fired my md. She doesn't know it though because she hasn't BOTHERED to call to check on me!! So, I am not going to a psychologist and my obgyn to make sure those steroids didn't screw up my brain or my endocrine system as we are trying to have a baby. Yeah, that was my first thought too... why would my MD who KNOWS we are trying to conceive do this to me?
Whew. Anyway, so my advice is to make sure you have someone around you at all times that can monitor your heart beat and write down EVERYTHING that happens in case you have a situation like mine. I journal all the time, so it was easy for me to explain to the shrink.
Okay, good luck out there!!!

My mom took Levaquin for a sinus infection and within three days of starting the medicine her kidneys began to fail. Her heart rate and blood pressure were elevated. After 6 months of going to doctor after doctor, she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and high blood pressure. Now she is on dialysis three times a week. The kicker...she had just had a complete physical with a blood work up three weeks prior to taking Levaquin and she was absolutely fine. Now, she's dying of chronic kidney disease.

I am really sorry for everyone out there that had bad experiences with Quasense. I had been taking this pill for 9 months and I loved it. It had cleared up my acne and I had absolutely no spotting, my periods were lighter and they would usually last for about 2-3 days. The only side effect I had were daily headaches. I do suffer from migraines every once in a while so these headaches were nothing compared to migraines, but they started coming everyday. I talked with my mom about it and she said it could be from the pills. So I stopped taking them. The headaches went away, but other things came back. I started getting acne again, my cramping got worse. I went back to my doctor and I was prescribed an antibiotic for my acne, and a regular birth control that I can take for 3 weeks and I just skip the dummy pills and start a new pack like the Quasense. Still to this day I haven’t gotten rid of my acne and that was my only reason for going on the pill. I want to get back on Quasense because I think the headaches are worth a pretty face. And from reading all the posts I think I got off lucky with just the headaches. Or I might even consider Seasonale if everyone says its so great.

This site has put so much worry on my mind about Yasmin. I started researching Yasmin because I had my first spotting this weekend. It started on Saturday and now it's Wednesday night and it has not stopped. Why do I want to be on something that makes me spot..I use to be on Portia which I really liked. I never spotted....I got on Yasmin because my mom and sister think I am moody (which, three woman in one house...do the math?) I have been feeling so tired lately. I go to bed about 8:00 or 8:30 and get up around 5:30, but I am still tired. On the weekends I can sleep anywhere from 12 hours on. I come home from work and nap and then go right back to bed. I have started to get leg cramps, which I haven't had since I was a sophomore in high school (junior in college now.) I've had a few more head aches than normal. I've put on weight....nothing feels good on me, I feel like a balloon. I have been more "depressed"...it's something that runs in my family but when I was on portia I was really happy...now I feel like I just want to say something or bring people down to my level. I am seeing this guy who works out of town and it never bothered me that he did until I started on Yasmin. I have stomach pains sometimes. What really upsets me is I told my sister about this site and she doesn't believe me. She thinks ALL birth control will give you these side affects and she says that they are not suppose to happen, which in theory she is right...but she doesn't leave any room for anything like this. She thinks I am feeling this way because of something else....well before the pill I was different. I like my face being clear but I don't like everything else but yet she can make the decision about her meds. I'm blaming Yasmin because it's the only thing I am on! I am going to use my last three months but I am not taking it anymore....I cant be a full time college student and hold a job while taking something that could potentially ruin my life before I even start it.

Please let me know if a class-action lawsuit is ever filed against this Pharm Co because I will file a suit to get this dangerous drug off the market. Yasmin/Yaz almost took my life in January 08. My OB/GYN put me on Yaz in Oct 07 for bad periods and cysts on my overies. Within a month my entire personality changed and I started losing my hair. I experienced a complete loss of sex drive, became depressed and was either constanting crying or raging at someone. However, my adult acne did clear up. On 1/27/08 I experienced extreme pain in my calf that moved up to my thigh within 48 hrs. I went to the ER and was told that no only did I a condition called DVT (Deep Vein Thrombisis-blood clot) in my leg but that the clot had broken off and moved into both of my lungs and I had bi-lateral pulmonary embolism. I can't even describe how incredibly painful this was. I was admitted into the hospital for 1 week and was put on powerful blood thinners, which I will be on for about a year. It's now been nearly 6 months since I was diagnosed and the DVT and it is still in my uppper thigh. But am grateful to be alive. If you would like to contact me I would be glad to answer any questions regarding this situation and my email addy is ****** PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YAZ OR YASMIN OR LET ANYONE IN YOUR FAMILY TAKE THIS MED, IT COULD KILL YOU.

I am in the family with the 86 year old man that committed suicide because of this drug. He was my father and I will never be able to see him again. This drug caused such severe side effects for him that he did not know what he was doing and killed himself leaving his wife of 59 years, 7 children and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had everything to live for and had no effects of depression or other problems until he started taking the medicine. The drug made him sicker instead of better. My family has asked that we received a drug screening from the Medical Examiner to determine the combination of drugs that were in my dad's system at his death. He was also prescribed prednisone, which we have since found out should that the drugs should not have been given together. I would like to take this doctor to task for his incompetence in prescribing an elderly man medication that could cause this result. I am very angry at the physician and will pursue legal actions when we receive the Medical Examiners information. No family should have to suffer the loss that we have had and no experience the void that we have in our lives. My father was a healthy, 86 year old man with a family history of living past the age of 100. We figured he had another 20 years to go. I know that my taking legal action will not bring back my father but I would like to somehow make this drug side effects public knowledge so this DOES NOT happen to another family. This weekend is Father's Day and my only way to talk to my father is standing my his graveside. I should not be doing that. I should be celebrating another Father's Day with him at his home. This drug and his doctor caused his death. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG....consult your doctor if he even mentions it in a course of treatment. I would like to be able to present evidence to the Food and Drug Administration of the terrible effects of this drug and the combination of drugs that are given with it. My daughter even said she would like to be the one presenting our family story to Congress during hearing concerning removing this drug from the market. That is my goal....this drug should be removed. I have contacted the Food and Drug Administration and suggest that everyone else do the same. If they get enough complaints, they will have to open a dialog on the drug and some of the families will have the opportunity to speak about the effects of the drug on their lives. I will always miss my father and love him dearly. I know that he was not in his right state of mind when he committed suicide and that the drug caused his actions. My mother found him that day in April when she came home from the store. She will never be the same nor will our family. Again, DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG!!!!!

I have to say the nuvaring has been pretty good for me. I am so thankful not to have had any major side effects from it. For a very long time I was not given any Bc that had hormones because my mom had a stroke from estrogen in the BC pill. It was in the 70's and MUCH higher doses of estrogen were in the pill. But anything with estrogen was off limits to me. I was in the need of some form of BC after 10 years not being sexually active. My husband died of cancer and was not dating until 10 years later. I went for BC counseling and the doc. recommended the Nuvaring. yes it has a tiny bit of estrogen but sh was not worried. I also complained that my period was always so heavy I had to wear the depends underwear because if I didn't I would have to change a tampon or a pad every 8-10 minutes. And I had extreme cramps so bad they went down the front of my legs. She was like "have I got a deal for you'! Well... she put me on the nuva ring and had me change it every 28 days no break in between. Result: NO PERIOD! I love that woman. Ok on to the side effects...I had spotting for like 3 months here and there, The first few months I lost a clump of hair to the side of my part by my forehead..it grew back..I get leg cramps every once in a while and they are doosies (sore for 2 days after) If I forget to remove it during sex my vagina burns after. and yes I have more wetness in my vagina. My b/f jokes it is I just think about him too much! Ladies to all of you that have the terrible side effects my heart goes out to you. I hope you find the BC that works for you. Keep trying others there will be a good fit for you sooner or later.

I, too, experienced the violent vomiting from taking a Lactase enzyme tablet (it was the store-brand generic version of Lactaid), after having taken it just fine for months.
My mom was visiting my husband and I and we all went to breakfast. I took a tablet right before I started drinking the large glass of milk I ordered (I'm weak when it comes to dairy, oddly enough). Within an hour I was home, vomiting, and dealing with abdominal pains and bloating. I continued to vomit for a couple of hours until finally, I was able to sleep.
A week later, I was eating with my husband at a restaurant for lunch, and because I had sour cream and cheese on my tacos, I took a tablet. About two hours later, I was calling him to take me home because I was sweating and it dawned on me what was going on. I felt exactly how I did the last time. By 8 that night, I was done vomiting.
I will be avoiding this product, generic or name-brand, for good now.

Added to my previous comment about seizures which my son developed, I have been worried about his growth as well. I realize that kids grow at different rates but my son's growth pattern is so different from my other children!! I have asked the Pediatrician about this several times but he always says that no studies have shown a link between Singulair and growth.Has anyone else wondered about this?

I have been on Wellbutrin for a couple of years & it has been a life saver. But it is very possible my hair loss is due to it. I have always had a full head of hair & no hair loss in my family at all. I'm also experiencing hearing loss but don't know if this is due to the Wellbutrin as my Father & sister have had hearing loss. My doctor intends to lower my dosage next month & I am going to ask him if air loss is a side effect.

Just checking in again. Wrote about my dad,(Feb. 08 and May 1st) 77 yo white male, had been on Lipitor 7 years. After my mom passed away I got involved with his health. Read so much about the side effect of Lipitor - finally convinced him to GET OFF LIPITOR ASAS- he has been off since Feb. 4, 2008 and is slowly getting back to where he should be. About 85-90% better than he was 6 months ago. It is a shame that my he and my mom were bot able to do things last summer because he felt so bad. (He had muscle aches, spasms in his wrists, joint aches, bad nightmares, tossing and turning. Although he was also being treated for arthritis, his blood and xray showed none!) PLEASE take the first step and get off this drug - call your pharmacist if you are not sure, tell them your side effects.
It will take awhile to get back to your old self - but my dad is proof that it will get better.

I have been on Lamictal and Topamax for approximately 4-5 years now. I also take effexor. I have a seizure disorder. At first everything was alright, however now I have been having double vision, staggering, memory loss that has occurred slowly within the last two years or so, and of course as with most meds the usual diarrhea or constipation. I wonder how long does it take being on medication for these side effects to kick in? I read all literature whenever I start a new medication even if it is a OTC drug. (over the counter). I just got out of the hospital and am being sent from one doc to another. I feel like a guinea pig in a lab! Please help!

I received my 1st shot last year and received my last one this morning. Around the time I got my first one, I had lost some weight but since I began the shots, I've lost more weight. My mom said I lost all the weight after Gardasil but I'm not trying to blame it since I'm not sure yet. And I've been real stress lately, I get mad easy, take everything defensively, and i'm not happy as much. Could this be due to Gardasil?

Hello, I'm 30 yrs old and I had the mirena for about 5 yrs. The reason I had it for so long is that I have a auto immune disorder and I thought it was coming from that. But now that i'm listening to everyone else, It's starting to make even more sense. I remember before I got it put in; I didn't experience any problems and I had the immune disorder than but it didn't bother me physically. When my 5 yrs. was up I had it removed and I started to feel much better. What was really dumb is that I had it replaced not knowing that it may be the mirena. Now, I have it in for 3 months now and I feel worser than the first insert. I have high blood pressure now and I never had a problem with that before. My hot flashes has begun after the second insert and I'm having more and more panic attacks now and the only thing that I can do is cry feeling alone and that my family did not understand what i am feeling. I cried to my mom and told her what's wrong with me and I told her it's not the auto-immune disorder because those symptoms only give me dry eyes and nose and other salivary gland problems. I'm having hot flashes and not able to sweat and also feeling bloated even more in my waist line and what tops the cake is that I'm getting pre-cancerous cyst on my cervix now, It's has to be check every month. I told my doctor that maybe it is the mirena and he said no because the hormone only stays below my waist and I said well my cervix is below my waist. My mom said it's the mirena. I'm glad I found this website.

I don't have the regular Wellbutrin to compare it to, but my boyfriend and my mom both take pills that say BUPROPION on the bottle and we have all thought it was weird that mine is called Budeprion so I decided to look up the difference today. This is really disturbing. I haven't experienced anything as severe as what's posted here, but I do have some really annoying side effects- the worst is really extreme and disturbing tremors (shaky hands, legs, voice, trouble holding utensils or putting strain on any muscle.) I also have really bad dry mouth, dizziness, nausea and fatigue. I am wondering if I would have them if I were taking name brand or a different generic. I am definitely asking for a different generic just to see what happens the next time that I get my prescription refilled, but what sucks is that I just got it refilled two days ago so I have to wait a whole month. Wish I'd researched it sooner! This is really weird and seems like it should definitely be taken care of. I'm surprised that there is a website with THIS many almost identical stories and yet nothing has been done about this drug yet. Surely just as many people and probably many more have TOLD the FDA about this stuff so it's pretty unsettling that it's still out there and the pharmacy gave it to me without even telling me it's different from wellbutrin and other generics.

My son is almost 6 yrs old. He has been taking Singular for approx 3 years, in addition to Claritin and Nasonex. This is all for his allergy to mold. His doctor started him on these meds after a 6 month episode with sinus infections leading to asthma-like symptoms. We have not noticed anything unusual about his behavior until approx 3 months ago. He started waking up every night (2-3 hours after going to bed) with bad dreams. At first he would not fully awaken and fall back asleep immediately. After a month or so of this happening most nights, he had two nights in a row where he woke up screaming and was inconsolable for about 30 minutes. We initially thought it was night terrors, but he was not scared or fearful, he was just upset/angry. He would hit the bed repeatedly and yell. He didn't know what he was upset about but would talk about how he thought we hated him, he was dumb, etc. After about 30 min he would 'snap out of it' and return to his normal self and go back to sleep easily.
At first we thought these were night terror brought on by a recent fever, but he had another episode last night. He has also been falling apart at the littlest things and getting quite violent (for a 6 yr old). He was sent to his room yesterday evening because he was complaining about the dinner his mom made (lots of complaining these days..). He had a total melt down an started throwing things and hitting the door so hard he put a hole in it.
Some of this behavior I would chalk up to normal kid stuff, new baby brother, etc. But I am suspicious about the negative thoughts, bad dreams, and instant melt downs... I stopped giving him Singular today and we will see what happens. God bless you all as we figure these things out...

I must say I love the NuvaRing. I've been on it for almost 3 years. It is extremely convenient. I do have some issues with weight and depression, but I've had those for a while so I don't think I can blame them on NuvaRing. I was previously on Depo for 3 years, and before that various pills (which I could never remember to take). I loved the Depo for it's convenience, but I think it caused a lot more weight gain and loss of sex drive than any other birth control method I've tried. I also tri-cycle my rings (I only have my period after every third ring cycle). The less periods the better in my opinion. I have very very light bleeding during my period. The only drawback is I have one day of horrible cramps that I never used to have. I just take some Ibuprofen and remember that it's only one day every three months.
Unfortunately I have crappy health insurance that won't cover NuvaRing, so I'm thinking about switching to Mirena. I'll miss the Ring, but hopefully Mirena will be good to me.

Hi all, I've been using the nuvaring for about 2 months now. I had twin boys in Feb, and DO NOT want to get preg for a long time. I originally wanted the Mirena IUC, but my dr ended up having a medical emergency and is no longer practicing. Anyway, for my 6 wk checkup I got a male dr who "doesn't do the Mirena thing." I was so mad. My mom has had a pulmonary embolism from estrogen therapy before and I shouldn't be taking estrogen because of that. This doctor said that isn't a problem for me and I believed him. Now I'm having the worst headaches I've EVER had in my life. I am so dizzy all the time, I almost dropped my son this morning and did drop him the other day. I am unable to focus on anything or remember anything that i need to do. I'm also experiencing vision problems which ****** states could be a bloodclot in my eye. YAY, at least I have an AWESOME family doctor and he is going to see me asap tomorrow morning. I hope these headaches go away soon, I took it out today after what is now the 6th day of barely being able to keep my eyes open. I'm wearing sunglasses now so I can look at the computer!! Hope everyone gets their situations with this resolved and we all find something BETTER.

Thanks everyone for posting on this site. I am a 22 year old mother of two. I had the mirena put in a couple months after my son was born in august of '07. My mother has been telling me she felt like the mirena was the cause of all my "issues" for the past few months. I thought the mirena would be perfect for me seeing as how I didn't remember to take the pill like I was suppose to. The only con I had heard from other women was that it hurt when the mirena was inserted. I felt no pain when the doc inserted it; cramping was minimal the following weeks so I thought I had it made. However.....
Slowly but surely most of the side effects you ladies have complained of began. I've had arthritis and back problems for years but NEVER the kind of scrutinizing pain I have felt since I got the mirena. My hands hurt me so badly I have a hard time feeding my son his baby food and fixing my little girls hair. My back gives out often, especially when I'm picking up or holding one of my children. I lost weight really well after my son was born but since the mirena I have gained 30lbs and am still gaining. I, like so many others, exercise and am a very active mom as well. I don't eat a whole lot but thought my eating must have been the problem so I tried dieting (a low fat diet, the same one I always used to get down to whatever weight I wanted to reach). Unfortunately nothing I do seems to work. The weight won't come off. Talk about repulsion. I don't even want to think about sex; and I have always been one who wanted my husband both emotionally and physically, but not lately. I have a lot of fluid which adds to the number I see on the scale. I stay bloated. My hair is falling out so bad the drains in our showers stay clogged. I have had more migraines the last few months than I have had in my life. My mind is so fuzzy, I can't seem to think a lot of the time. I stay sooooo tired. My moods are all over the place. The nausea I have had the last couple of months makes me feel pregnant again. All of our side effects are listed in the mirena info pamphlet we get from the doc when it's inserted. It's ludicrous that any doc would say that the mirena ISN'T the cause of these symptoms. The next time a doc tells you mirena can't cause these side effects PUT THAT PAMPHLET IN HIS FACE AND ASK HIM IF HE CAN READ!!!! The pamphlet does say that only 5% of women have these side effects, but, HELLO, someones in that 5%. I told my mother for the longest time the mirena was doing me no harm and that her concerns were nothing. Then I found this site and now owe my mother an apology. Mirena is a good choice for some women but not for others. Thank you ladies for all of your input. God Bless you all. I'll be praying God's hand is upon you all.

I am an individual that started taking Singulair about a year ago. I've had allergies to weeds, grasses, and pollens since I was a little girl and have taken a variety of meds including Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, Flonase, and allergy shots. Last summer, my usual Claritin just wasn't enough so my doc prescribed Singulair. It worked wonders for my allergies. Soon after, I began to feel "numb" -- that's the best word to describe what I felt. I was depressed. It just so happened that my mother had had surgery and I had moved to a different city about the same time as beginning the Singulair. When I began feeling depressed and disconnected from the world, my doc and I contributed it to depression from life transitions. It didn't go away though. For a year, I isolated myself. I didn't talk to friends and family. I missed over 10 days of work just because I didn't want to get out of bed. I slept almost 15 hours a day, gained 60 lbs, didn't clean my house. I didn't really do anything and I didn't care. I felt so disconnected from the world. I didn't cry. I didn't feel suicidal, but I knew that something was wrong with me. I thought I was having a breakdown or something. My doc checked several things but all test results were normal. It wasn't until my mother seen a CNN report on Singulair that I began to link my depression to when I started the drug. I immediately quit taking Singulair and felt better within 4-5 days. After 2 1/2 weeks, I was back to being my old self. It was so scary feeling so isolated, numb, and disconnected from the world. I never would've thought about it being a side effect from an allergy medicine.
