A friend of mine directed me to here. After reading all of the side effects I realized that a lot of what is going on with me is these bc pills. I knew that the cramping and bleeding was from the pills but I didn't realize that my spaciness and inability to focus has been the pills. I have been noticing at work that my employer tells me one thing and i do the opposite and I can't figure out why I am not on top of it like I usually am. My heart feels like it is beating faster and I find that I am anxious and always starving and having to eat a lot, which is not like me. Slight headaches too and slight muscle pain - can these all be from this pill?

I used to take Seasonale but my dr recommended this one because it is the generic brand that is way cheaper. But I never had the side effects from seasonal that I am having now. I just thought these side effects were just me but now I know it is the pill. I am definitely quitting these and get Seasonale again. This is crazy, these side effects!

I feel sorry for women who can't switch because they can't afford the more expensive one and they weigh the side effects against having horrible periods, moodiness...etc.It all depends on which side effects are worse, the pill or their monthly period.

We trust that our best interest is at heart, but it isn't. I can tell you one thing, if a man was the one who got pregnant, the pill would be perfected with very little side effects if any.

When I had my last son, my obgyn did not inform me any negative side effects. I had previously used the copper T, and although I still got my period, mine aren't that bad, but still, my Ob-gyn assured my the progesterone in the Mirena would be limited to that area. Well 3 years later and I have had headaches, never got my libido back (which is hard on a marriage), and have gain about 30 pounds(with no change in diet or activity) from my 6 week post delivery check-up. I only have short spotting with Mirena, but would trade for a monthly period in a heartbeat if I could go back to my post pregnancy weight of 116 and get libido back. It was not until my check-up last week that I was informed it could affect libido. I'm 5'2", so 30+ pounds really shows, my mother and mother-in-law, both had made comments about "hoping I wasn't pregnant again. Its also caused a loss of self esteem and depression over all this. If my insurance will cover it I plan to go back to my old, 10-year copper IUD.

I have been taking Quasense for 2 months now, and i feel horrible! I was on reclipsen before for extremely long and heavy periods, and it worked great, but then i switched to quasense and I have gained 8 pounds (doesn't sound like much? I'm four foot eleven!!) I have horrible mood swings and frequent headaches. I am having many digestive issues too, lately every time I eat I've been getting absolutely terrifying stomach cramps, and also just one bite of something fills me up completely! I've also been kind of gassy.... eek! No spotting, which is nice, BUT NOT WORTH IT! also, i have been super sensitive to smells, random things make me gag and i have to run out of the room. THIS PILL IS HORRIBLE!!!!

I got Mirena inserted back in April 2009 after my son was born. I have been feeling tired and have had back aches as well as some increased vaginal discharge. However, no foul odor and my sex drive is just fine. I'm wondering if the effects get worse the longer you have it in? It seems that most of you are experiencing these horrible side effects after 6months or so.
I'm going to keep my Mirena in and see how things go. It is a convenient form of birth control, but since I no longer have a period I get very paranoid that I could be pregnant again! :\

I had mirena inserted in August of 2008, i bleed continuously for about two months after that my periods was really heavy. For me there was no hair loss, just stomach cramps and now i feeling like i'm pregnant, nausea also like morning sickness, but my thing is how can i be pregnant and this IUD is suppose to last for 5yrs. I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow and will post an update.

Like someone said maybe its time foe a lawsuit against mirena.

Mirena...WOW who would have known, that trying to prevent pregnancy would hurt so bad. I have had Mirena for 2 years now after the birth of my second child. Started out okay, within 3 months, I would only spot during my cycle, and before long no spotting. I thought it was great. Then I noticed myself becoming tired, no energy, just thought i needed more sleep. It didn't matter if i slept 12 hours I was still tired throughout the day. Then I noticed my patience going out the window. Every little thing irritated me, I would get so upset over nothing. Before long I was yelling at my kids, getting mad at them like I would an adult over something. Everything would be okay one minute and the next minute I would want to rip someone's head off. There's been a couple of times after an episode where i'm sitting there thinking what the hell is happening to me. This isn't me.

Then I got online to start doing some research and low and behold I find websites that are covered up with comments just like mine. My husband had just about been at the end of his rope with me just thinking I was being a b**** for no reason. Now that he has seen everyone elses reviews he believes that this thing has something to do with it. I have been depressed, I have basically lost all weight from my second birth except for my stomach. I look like I am 3 - 4 months pregnant and it will not go down.
I've been to the doctor's office asking what's going on and having test run and it all comes back normal. Nurses see my stomach and look at me saying "are you sure your not pregnant, because that's not because you are fat".

I am finally taking the plung and having this removed. The only thing I will miss about this thing is not having a period at all and no cramping. My kids and my life is more important to me than having to go buy tampons and deal with a monthly period. I've done it before and survived, and I'm so ready to have my mind back. Your gut lets you know when your not yourself and mine has been telling me for a while that I'm not myself. If you have been ingnoring your gut feeling start acknowledging it, it's trying to tell you something.

Will post later and let you all know step by step what happened after having it removed and whether or not my stomach went down and if I have a better mood about life.

Just wondering....has anyone started a civil suit towards Mirena? There's enough testimonies here that someone needs to listen.

I had the Mirena inserted March of 08 just a little over a year after I had my first child. I would have rather gone through another drug free birth than have this thing inserted! I had such bad cramps I was taking 1000 mg of Ibuprofen every six hours and drinking 2-3 glasses of wine a night just to function. I had my period for 4 months solid and after a month of having the Mirena I felt as though I had a 2x4 nailed to my spine. I couldn't walk, sit, stand, even laughing hurt so bad it would bring me to tears. The pain finally went away after two months. Then I started to get thick chin hairs, they weren't highly visible unless I pointed them out or felt for them. Then the acne on my neck, hair line, chin, behind my ears, chin...everywhere! I am like any other female, a few blemishes here and there from my monthly period. I feel bloated all the time, never want to have sex, and when me and my husband do have sex....I spot for two weeks. Then the spotting goes away, we have sex and the NEXT DAY the spotting begins again for two weeks! We do not want to have anymore children but I would rather stick post it notes all over my house, car and even on my child to remind me to take the pill than go through this for another day. Each person is different, so I cannot tell you to do or not to do....just proceed with caution!!!!

My experience has been alright with Mirena...

I'm 18 years old. I got it inserted on January 17, 2008. The first day I had horrid cramps, and would get pretty bad cramps randomly for the first month or so.

I spotted and got break-through bleeding for about 3 months or so afterwards, and then my cycle started steadying out some. My period became lighter with minimal cramps, but it didn't become shorter. Finally after about 6 months my period was back in order. I now have lighter bleeding with minimal cramps, but the amount of time my period takes has not changed any. My period has always lasted around 8 days and these light periods I'm having also last around 8 days (maybe longer), but I LOVE the fact that it has virtually gotten rid of my cramps. I used to get awful cramps that would put me in a cold sweat on the floor with nausea and feeling faint and all that stuff. My period also used to be very heavy the first few days.

As for side effects... I've never had a weight problem and it didn't lower or make me gain weight. I've always had a history of anxiety and depression so I can't really say if it has aggravated either of those disorders. I sometimes get problems with my stomach and intestines (usually just mild to moderate cramping, mild to moderate nausea, and sometimes constipation), but my anxiety has always given me GI trouble.

So, to summarize my experience... I had about 3 months of irregular light bleeding on top of regular, and sometimes heavier, periods. After about 3 months my body gradually regulated itself back to no virtually no spotting or break-through bleeding and I now have a regular monthly period again in which I experience pretty much no pain, lighter bleeding, but how long my period lasts is still the same.

All in all I'm doing alright with the IUD. The most annoying side effects are the possible GI side effects and just generally adjusting to it with the spotting, break-through bleeding, etc. It can take up to a year for your body to fully adjust to Mirena though, so I'm going to wait at least a year before I decide if I want to keep it or not. But so far my experience has been alright. I would like to see my periods be shortened and a little more predictable (they usually are predictable, but sometimes they last longer than my period used to last), but that's about it. :)

I have been on Nuvaring for almost 4 years and the pill for 6 years prior. I am 25 and now for the past 5 months not on any form of BC. I am having serious acne problems and my period has only come once in the past 5 months. I am wondering if anyone else is or has experienced coming off of Nuvaring and what I can expect and is there something I can take to get me back to normal. Thanks

Hi, I know this section is for posting side effects but I was wondering if someone could please help me and provide me with some information. I am very athletic and active so any type of spotting/bleeding is NOT FOR ME. I am trying to eliminate my monthly period. I was on Depo Provera for several years and loved it. No periods everything fine except for a low sex drive. Then I ran into some problems and had to stop that. Plus my doctor said it causes osteoporosis.
Then I tried Seasonique which was awful as I had instant weight gain and breast tenderness like crazy. Was only on that for a few weeks!!!
Then I heard about Lybrel which is supposed to stop your periods after some time so I started that at the end of December last year (2007). I had spotting and some bleeding EVERY DAY and a few days ago had a lot of bleeding but I also played with the dosage per doctor's request. So I saw my doctor today and I said enough is enough what else can I try? So she gave me the Loestrin 24 Fe and I will start that Sunday. She said many people stop having periods after a few months of use. HOWEVER, after reading these posts, I am thinking NO BC is right for me now. If anyone can help me on my goal of eliminating the curse or convince me that this pill is OKAY after 3 months I would appreciate it. Please email me at escarle1@hotmail.com. Thank and I hope to hear back soon!

I've been on Quasense for 6 months now. The first pack of pills (3 months) were fine but now I am on my second pack and I started heavily bleeding about a month before my placebos were supposed to start. This has gone on for 2 weeks straight now! This isn't spotting. This is really heavy bleeding-way more than even a normal period, and I have been getting fibrous tissue-y clots in the blood too. It's freaking me out beyond belief, and pissing me off to not be able to have sex this long. For a pill that's supposed to make your periods more conveniently absent, this one is doing a horrible job. I would rather go back to having a monthly period with a normal 28 day pill cycle than this. Apparently I am not the only one having this issue, which makes me feel more "normal" with the side effects I am experiencing-but it sucks nonetheless. I have a new unused pack I bought before this crap started happening. Anyone wanna buy it? I'll sell it to you real cheap.

After exactly 2 hours of ingesting the Avelox 400mg. pill, I suddenly felt a sensation of vertigo as I was standing in my kitchen talking with my young daughter. This was followed by extreme dizziness. I had to lie down for the next hour and a half as I had no balance. I felt slight nausea as well. I spoke to the pharmacist on the phone and she said these symptoms were fairly common (2-5%) and I should try to continue taking the drug the next day, "if I could stomach it." It was very hard speaking to her as I was also experiencing severe confusion; it was hard to form my thoughts and to string them together into a sentence. I went to bed feeling groggy but slept okay for most of the night; only slight insomnia in the early morning hours. The next day, I felt physically and mentally disoriented; I was incapable of driving my daughter to school and my mind felt completely "zonked out of it" -- "stupid" -- like my mind was almost a blank. It's a shame because my sinuses and bronchitis felt a bit clearer already -- but I simply could not go through that experience again -- I have a life to lead and can not spend 9 more days incapacitated, lying on a couch and incapable of looking after my 4 year old daughter. I usually take medicines just fine and am not prone to side effects, so this experience took me totally by surprise.

Dear kim and dejay,

your posts nearly bring me to tears, because you exactly tell my story from about 1,5 years ago!!

I know it's hard to believe while you're still in it, but: IT WILL GET BETTER!! You will be your old self someday, but you'll need lots of patience and endurance and the support of your family or husband or anyone around you!!

I know exactly EVERY symptom you both have mentioned!! And I remember me sitting in there and thinking "I never will be better again, this is how it will stay the rest of my life, I'm done!" and today I'm BACK!!

It can last a few weeks or months but I swear someday you'll think "oh, today I think I'm doing a bit better finally", that's how it happened to me!! It will be only little steps every day or week or month, but you'll get through this!!!

Remember that the pill is affecting your natural hormones completely and brings them out of whack. Now, after getting off that horrible pill, it will take some time for your body to learn how to produce hormones by itself again!! It's definitely not only a flu or a simple cold we're all going through, it's something more serious, but nothing letal and nothing, that will last forever!!

On top the Yasmin is lacking your body of very important electrolytes and vitamines and so on, because of the diuretic effect!! So, as flowerbabies already told you, please make sure to take some good supplements (most important seem to be magnesium, zinc and b-vitamines, because they are absolutely essential for nerves and muscles!!).

Another thing that might be possible (also because of the diuretic effect of Yasmin): Please ask your doctor for a blood work about your iron levels!! The monthly period (which, I guess, came really regular during Yasmin) AND the diswatering effect of Yasmin can also lack your body of that important substance.

For the very hard times another thing that might help to calm down a bit: VALERIAN. It's a natural medication which doesn't make you addictet and in my very hard times it was always a good thing to help me through!!

But DEJAY: Don't feel weak because you couldn't get through without antidepressants!! I swear there were times, where I thought "Please give me ANYTHING, I will take it, I can no longer stand this agony!" and today I still don't really know, how I got through without that stuff!! So please take something, if it might help you through the very hard times and someday you'll be able to get off it again!! I swear!

Ok, sorry, I'll try not to write a book again. But I really hope I could help somehow.

And please: If you feel bad and hopeless come around here and I swear you'll always find someone to support you (which I know sometimes is the only thing that helps not to give up completely!!).

But always remember: I's NOT YOU!! It's the Yasmin and someday you'll be better again.

Big hugs to you both and every other poor victim of that horrible drug and stay strong! You'll get through this!!

Best wishes and god's bless
Silke

Was on Yasmin for 9 months and then took a 2 month break and then I resumed. Now I feel "screwy". I feel anxiety, nervousness, dehydration, heart palps and my newest symptom.....Waking up in the middle of the night completely nauseated Puking and heaving!! I can't sleep because the Hormones are keeping me up at night. Also I have an unnatural, unhealthy monthly period. The blood is just dark gook. It's not a nice healty flow. I am getting off this crap. The sad thing about it is my boyfriend said, "you have to stay on it". What an jerk... he has seen how terrible I have felt on it. He also tells me I am "unstable", and that I have mood swings. I am going to chalk it up to Yasmin!! Oh another thing, I don't like to get up in the AM. I am always tired and drained of energy... I say 4 get it!!
