I started NuvaRing in Sept 2009. I started noticing my right boob was VERY sore like it felt bruised. I also noticed that I didn't want to have sex with my boyfriend. We have only been together since May so you know we were hot n heavy until I was put this thing in! I got to where I didn't want to be around him or have him touch me and I noticed that I was horrible to my kids! I didn't want to play with them, I just wanted them to go to their rooms and leave me alone. I thought it was just me and my boyfriend having trouble and I was just waiting for him to kick me out! I was having headaches and moodiness and I just wanted to stay in bed. I also noticed I gained some weight. Now I didn't step on the scale but my pants went from a 10/12 to a 14! My boyfriend actually heard about some side effects on TV one day when he got home from work and he asked me to take the NR out because he was concerned. So, I did and lo and behold, I started my period 2 1/2 weeks early! So, now I'm "google-ing" the NuvaRing and I find all this on all these different sites...so it's NOT just ME...it's alot of women. I should have researched BEFORE i filled the script. No more NR for me...I can't stand the depressive and bitchy side of me and neither can my boyfriend!

Well, I have one side effect I haven't seen anyone mention. My breasts feel weird, like they did at the beginning of my pregnancy. I've been trying to figure out a way to explain the way it feels, and its a combination of when I had a yeast infection in my breast while breast feeding (not nearly as painful though) and the way they felt when I was in my first few weeks of pregnancy. I also have constant cramping, its not terrible, but constant. Then I've also had joint pain in my hips, I've woke up in the middle of the night with my hands asleep. And you can't even imagine the weight problems I've had. I weighed 180 two days before I had my twins, 160 when I came home from the hospital, 135 in January, and now I'm 175. If I gain 5 more lbs I'll weigh as much as I did 8 months pregnant with twins. I've tried dieting and I still keep gaining. Then my DH also says that I am not the same person. He was the reason I started looking into side effects because he told me one night that I've changed since I got the IUD and it is making me crazy. I thought he was crazy, that it was just because I had babies and more on my plate now, but then I thought that maybe he was right, that my moodiness and weird feelings combined could all be from the BC. Then I started researching. There are too many woman posting problems with the Mirena. I think it should be taken off the market (and they should pay for everyone to have it removed). If you go to Google and just search for Mirena IUD, don't include side effects or problems, just type in "Mirena IUD", you will get an official site, a couple of drug websites, and the others are sites for side effects. That should tell you something. There's even an support forum.

My daughter was born 9-6-08 and had the Mirena inserted a month later. I tried really hard to lose the weight from my pregnancy and at first I thought it was working but then I stopped losing any weight and before I knew it I weigh the same as my when I was pregnant. I feel the fluttering in my stomach and the acne and the sore breasts and even the moodiness. I thought I was pregnant. I took 4 hpt and they all came back negative. Went for a urine test at my doctors but I still wasn't convinced when it came back negative so I asked for a blood test too. That also came back negative. Thank goodness cuz I didn't want another child this soon. It just seemed to be too much stress and too much to worry about. It's not worth it. I'm convinced that I will call my doctor and have it removed because I just cannot handle this. I'm going back on the pill. Not sure which kind but anything is bound to be better than this. Any suggestions? I'm so hoping to lose all this weight and stop getting acne. Not to mention stop snapping at my husband all the time.

I have a 15-yr old. She's been taking singulair since she was 7. These are a few of the things that I have noticed over the last year but ignored because I too, as many of you have, thought it was because she a teenager.

1. Stomachache .. she complained all the time. Thought it was nerves because it was usually before she went to a training session or game.
2. Restlessness.
3. Headaches.
4. Moodiness.
5. Tired. Fatigue. Weak. Even after she gets hours and hours of sleep. Figured it was because her schedule is whacked. We've had fights over her not going to bed at a certain time.
6. Menstrual cycle changed last fall followed by acne when as before she was perfectly normal with clear skin. Recently put her on BC because of her hormonal change. Blood tests showed she was normal. We tried it anyway to regulate her periods. Took her off of it after she had her period for 3 weeks straight. Probably won't put her back on BC since taking Singulair might be the problem.
7. Tired all the time. Falls asleep in class.
8. Lost interest in her favorite sport which she rocks at. Thought it was because of a 2-month down time due to an injury.
9. Several times, have seen signs of depression but when confronted she says no she's fine. Depression is probably from being unhappy with her appearance. Being on the pill made this worse.
10. Doesn't want to go to school. Whereas before not a big deal. Most kids don't like school, but lately, she talks about how much she hates it. Usually excited to start the new school year, this year not so much, more like dreading it and her attitude hasn't change about it.
11. We argued last week and it was the first time she screamed at me and told me she hated me. She's never done this before. Her thoughts and moods have been horrible but they come in spurts.

After reading everyone's experiences, I am taking her off Singulair. I know it's not an overnight cure and will take some time, but I just want my little girl back. I find it strange that this all occurred within the last year even though she's been taking Singulair since 7. Do you suppose it's in teenagers and puberty?

I have had the Mirena in since I was 12 weeks postpartum. My daughter is now five months old. I have had so many side effects that I also thought were due to just having a baby and the life changes that follow (plus my kids are 12 months and 1 day apart so who knows what's out of wack once you've been pregnant for two years straight!). I've had some headaches, sleeplessness, so many pregnancy symptoms I took a pregnancy test and had the doctor do one, incredible moodiness, I hate being touched (I felt this way with both pregnancies), no libido...all of these have made in incredible strain on my marriage. If things don't improve between us a few months after I get this hell-stick IUD removed we're going to couples therapy! I was diagnosed with depression at 14, but it has been under control since then. However, since Mirena I have been incredibly depressed. I have been on birth control since 14 due to terrible periods/cramping etc and never had an issue. I am going to switch to the copper/hormone free IUD and just pray my periods have changed now that I've had two children. Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in the 5th month of taking Yaz. My dr put me on this because I was complaining that I didn't feel right as I am getting older. I am 36. I was on triphasil and was starting to feel more intense symptoms during my periods. Heavier bleeding, cramping, extreme moodiness and of course, migraines. Dr thought Yaz would help and switched me. The first couple of months were fine. Then I started having anxiety, Occasional blurred vision. I have felt "wrong" for a long time now. The worst has been "constant" migraines. I have taken some sort of over the counter medicine every single day for months now. A friend told me her doctor took her off Yaz after her blood pressure sky rockited. I decided to check mine and sure enough it was way over what is considered high. That explains a lot!!! I have stopped taking this pill. It made everything so much worse.

Hi, I am a mother of 2, and not quite 23 years old and got the Mirena inserted at my 6 week check up after having my second. I read all the literature that the Dr. gave me and I was sure that Mirena was the right thing for me (no where in the brochures did I read anything about the symptoms Ive read about here or anywhere else on the internet). I started having incredibly horrible mood swings, bloating, fatigue, nausea (sooo bad, every day) back pain, neck pain, no sex drive (!!!), depressed, lazy, headaches (to the point where I thought my head was going to explode), constantly hungry, acne, smelled maple syrup constantly, complaining all the time about everything, weight gain (only 7 lbs but I just had a baby, I need to lose weight, and I'm nursing),chest pain, and some other symptoms but the most important one is the stomach pain i was having. The pain in my stomach felt like a knife, and I kept having pain in my right side. So after a few days of this pain I went to the dr. he ordered an ultrasound of my abdomen and I am scheduled to get that done Wednesday. My doctor thinks that I may have gallbladder disease or something else seriously wrong with me that we suspect is induced by the Mirena. Keep in mind that I've had this thing in me for about 4 months!!! So after my doctors appointment I typed into google "side effects from Mirena" and Omg, I wish that I had done that before I got the thing inserted, those brochures about the Mirena make it seem like a Godsend and I am all for a lawsuit due to the problems I am having and the depression Ive felt. My 3 year old has suffered from my mood swings, every time id feel it coming I had to make her go to her room :( that poor girl deserves to have a mother that is not so depressed and ill that she can actually play, and both of them deserve that really, and im doing the best I can.... anyways I removed it myself yesterday, i had a hard time finding it but I took it out and I feel as if a huge burden has been lifted, EXCEPT I have been cramping very bad, spotting and incredibly sick, i also read about this thing called "the mirena crash" no matter how long you've had it in, if the hormones were in your system then you are effected and can feel very ill from it (and it can happen to women who had no problems while on it at all, even after 5 yrs). Im hoping that I have nothing wrong at my doctors appt on Wednesday when I get the ultrasound, and it may just be a cyst, turns out that is a side effect of mirena as well, that and bleeding the first several months (oh yeah, I did for about 2 months maybe 10 weeks altogether) Im also hoping that my daughter whom I am nursing is not sick as well :/

oh and for anybody out there thinking that the only women gaining weight are fat to begin with, well I am usually 105 lbs, after my baby I weighed 145, lost some weight, went down to 130ish gained it all back then some, losing weight is easy for me because I diet and exercise like I should, now I am doing all that and nursing a child.... and hello weight, when it really should be goodbye... well goodbye mirena I WONT miss you!!!!

I have had a fantastic experience. I had some initial spotting for a few months, but since then have been without my period for 2+ years and I have had no mood swings, weight gain, moodiness or anything! It has been the best birth control device in my whole life (now in mid-40's) and I recommend it all my friends. Sorry to hear about others with side effects, but I felt I needed to share my experience, which has been fantastic.

I'm on Lamictal for minor bipolar, with Adult ADHD, OCD and anxiety. I went on Lamictal around 2005. It has been 4 years. At first I did not like how it made me feel. It made me feel like euphoric almost like all my emotions were caged up inside, both good and bad. When I say good I mean, the normal emotions of happiness and sadness were gone. I became more or less numb. I no longer cry when it is appropriate to cry, and I am no longer a happy outgoing person. Yet the "bad" emotions is what I mean by it holds in the extreme moodiness, outrages, anxiety and depression. Now my attitude is more like, yeah whatever. I accepted the good with he bad because this medication has helped me enormously and I would rather go without the good normal stuff than to have the extreme back. I am not a zombie, I am not high strung or low strung.....just a even keel which is how supposed to be how Lamictal works. It is the first thing since 1994 which has worked and a wonderful doctor who is top notch knew immediately what I needed. Unfortunately I had to go through years of BS and being a guinea pig to get to this point and finding the right doctor. She is a pharma psychiatrist which is better than a psychiatrist. She is a specialist in psychiatry but also pharmacology (medicine), so unlike most doctors that know how to treat, she is a expert in understanding medications.

Side Effects - If I forget to take it I immediately get agitated and get headaches, and twitching in my eye and lip area. Do not mess with this medicine. It can help with seizures, but if you forget, it can also cause seizures! The major side effect I am having is scalp pain, itching and HAIR LOSS . After 3 years of not knowing why I am losing so much hair (and I had a very full thick head of hair), and going to doctors and dermatologists, my psych dr. told me it is Lamictal! Finally I know the culprit. I very upset about this, and I need to seriously think about if I am going to stop it. I do not want to go bald!

Please note to all of you that are new to this drug also, do not drink grapefruit juice or take NSAIDS medications - eg. things with acetaminophen in it. NSAIDS can cause Stevens Johnsons Syndrome. A deadly side effect. If you make it a few weeks up to the right dosage without signs of Stevens Johnsons syndrome you will be ok. But be aware of the signs......... ulcerating wounds. Look it up on Google and google photos. Educate yourself.

This medications has done wonders for me, but at the same time I really have not had a choice. All the other drugs that work for adhd cause a lot of hypertension - causes more agitation, and the other drugs for bipolar and ocd can have side affects like early diabetes or severe weight gain. I wish there was something else out there, without all the side effects because Lamictal is great, but I am not going to be a 37 year old female walking around bald the rest of my life.

I have been off Yasmin (Ocella) for just over 2 months. In most ways I am feeling much better. Less headaches, earaches moodiness and more energy then I had when on the pill. Since then I have been sent for many tests, ultrasound, hormones etc. I was diagnosed last night with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. My hormones are soo out of balance, and my doctor said it may be from taking the pill. I was on Yasmin for 6 years and am 31 years old and married. I can't believe this. I have always had a lot of pelvic plain but was never diagnosed with anything.

I have been on the Ring for 4 years. I have had minimal side effects compared to other birth control (BC). IT IS A HORMONE. The nausea, tiredness, weight gain, moodiness is because we are elevating the hormones in our bodies to make our bodies THINK its pregnant. All BC have these effects to some degree. If the Ring doesn't work, try a different kind of BC and then different levels of hormones, or types of hormones. You have to "shop around" to find the BC that gives you the least side effects for your body.

I have had weight gain and a reduced libido but that is nothing compared to the side effects I had with pills (crazy nuts, sore breasts, pain with sex, constant periods). And I am getting older (now 33) so I expect some of the changes are likely part of me aging and if not they do not out way how easy the Ring is to use and my assurance I am protected ea. month. I have been very happy with the Ring.

Now to my problem. My husband and I decided the possibility of blood clots (I am a smoker over 30) is not worth the risk to be on BC at all. So, after my last cycle I stopped the Ring after 4 good years.
I am soooo sore now. I feel like someone punched me in my ovaries and uterus. I hurt so much I can't hold in my stomach. Is this common when you stop BC or just the Ring?

I have been on this pill for 8 months, so I can speak out and tell you how it has been. I am a firm believer you give the pill time to get in your system, now I want it out my system as quickly as possible. I already placed a call to my doctor this morning after everything I have read. I am loosing my hair at an extreme rate, even my little girls have noticed my hair seems to be everywhere in the house not to mention I can't clip my hair up without it falling down 2 minutes later with the same clips I have used for years. Moody as all get out.. emotional at times that I have no explanation for. ACNE is BEYOND anything I have ever experienced. They are huge red and seem to be either on my cheeks or along my jaw line. I even switched to Clinique Acne Solutions and that stuff has a guarantee it will work or your money back. Well I am not going to ask for my money back knowing its this darn horrible pill I am on. I will go back to Ortho Trycyclen and have my periods a few extra days and heavier to gain my sanity, hair and tame my temper/moodiness and clear my face back up. I also have experienced dry eyes, major fatigue all I want to do is take a nap when I get home and I ache what seems like all the time.

I'm 23 and began taking BC for the first time about 2 months ago. My gyn recommended Loestrin 24, and I'm just now starting my third pack.
So far I've noticed the following side effects:

1. Breast tenderness - they are constantly sore. (In the past they would only be sore during my period.) It's somewhat annoying, as I used to enjoy having the boy play with "the girls", but now he has to be completely gentle or I start cringing.

2. Moodiness - there have been 2, possibly 3 occasions so far where I've been quite depressed/ apathetic/ generally negative/ irritable for several hours without real cause, and was unable to "snap out of it".

Frightening, but infrequent, and therefore bearable once you recognize what's happening.

3. LOSS OF SEX DRIVE - by far the scariest side effect, especially since the whole point of me taking BC was to be able to have sex with my boyfriend (without getting preggers, of course.)

Fortunately I've only noticed this on 2, possibly 3 occasions - the boy was goin' to town, giving' me the WORKS - which usually does the job quite nicely, but this time my response was, "meh." No arousal at all.

Completely frustrating - for me, because I hate being unable to respond sexually to the guy I love, and for him, because what worked before isn't working now. randomly. for no reason.

4. Period, periods, ALL THE TIME - I've had my period 5 times in the past 8 weeks. RIDICULOUS. completely ridiculous. And I'm not talking occasional light "spotting" that comes and goes - no. It's like, I'm thinking about buying stock in Playtex because I am single-handedly bringing about full economic recovery with my bulk tampon purchases. Five days (often more) of bein' on the rag full-time.
Ridiculous.

(Although to be fair, there were a couple times where I forgot to take a pill one night, and had to take two the next day.... I'm forgetful. and distractible. This could be causing the excessive periods.)

5. Other side effects - I haven't gotten fat, or pimply, or nausea, or sleeplessness, or headaches; at least, not that I've noticed.

Good luck finding decent BC that doesn't make you fat and crazy, ladies!!

I have been on Mirena since September of 2006 (6 weeks after my youngest was born). I can't ever remember to take the pill, I've always had really heavy (super tampon and overnight maxi) periods for 7 days with really bad cramps, and I'm not sure if I want any more children. I had seen the commercials, read about it, and decided this was what I wanted. Well during the settling period (about 9 months - 1 year) I experienced the cramps, bleeding and bloatedness. However I've now had it for three years with no problems, that I thought anyways... until this month. I haven't had a real period (other than spotting for three days or so) for over two years now. Well this month I started spotting and didn't think anything of it. Then it slowly got worse. Luckily I had an appointment with my Dr. coming up (this past Monday), so I figured I'd talk to her about it then. Well, when she checked she said that it looked like the Mirena had come down a bit, as the strings were several inches longer than they were on my last visit. She has now scheduled me for an ultrasound this Friday to see if they can find out what's going on. It's been two weeks since the bleeding started, and just as I think it's gonna stop, it gets heavy again and I pass more clots. After reading everyone's posts, I'm a little scared. I start to think about how I've been over the past couple years and wonder if maybe some of my moodiness and irritability has been because of this little thing. I'm usually one of the most laid back people, but I do tend to snap at my children and boyfriend a lot. I know now that I also have the side effect of the lack of sex drive. I had trumped that up to having a little one, but that's probably not really the case. I hope I will find out more tomorrow. Just on another note, my boss also had Mirena put in. I'm not sure that she had any side effects, because she never mentioned any to me, except about the discharge because we both had that. Anyways, she had hers out in March and she just found out she is pregnant (but only a few weeks along).. but she's been bleeding, so she's going in twice a week to make sure her levels keep going up. Anyways, I wasn't aware that the way Mirena worked was just by self aborting the embryos. I don't like that idea at all, so after I figure out what's going on with me, I need to really sit down and weigh all my options because right now my side-effects aren't near as bad as anyone elses on here. Anyone know of another IUD that doesn't have the side effects like this one?

i have been miserable taking these pills..first week of 2nd pack..couldn't figure out why my boobs were killing me in the first pack and then the debilitating fatigue (i am going to lose my job if this keeps up--i come home at lunch and can't do anything but sleep for an hour! in addition, as soon as i get home at 5 i have to rest again,.so not me and so NOT able to continue this way)..i also have had 2 weeks of major headaches with the first 2 characterized as the worst i can ever remember. I am not a person who has issues like this...I am 41 and never been on BC. I started because the older i get the worse the periods and pms are and longer...heavier, more intense moodiness and pain. I am convinced as of tonight that i think i rather have all that back. I can't do this. I left a message for my doctor after reading 2 days worth of blogs now i know its not a flu, pregnancy or the 'weather'. I was also having hard time breathing (felt like i couldn't get a deep breath so i had to really inhale and i looked like i was having an attack..i thought it was the humidity here in the NE...now i know thats from these damn pills). I also did not get my period the first brown pills till the Sunday i started my new pack and it lasted only a day.
If i didn't read this site, i was convinced something major was going on like a brain tumor or something. i need to get off these pills.

Thank god I found this site! My body has been going crazy ever since I started taking Yasmin two years ago and I didn't put two and two together until reading all of these postings and realizing the Yasmin might be the culprit.

I'm a healthy 31 y.o. who exercises regularly, doesn't smoke and has been on various oral contraceptives for the last decade without too many side effects beyond slight moodiness and minor weight gain. About two years ago I switched over to Yasmin. About two months ago I came across this site as I was researching hypertension which I had developed. I was confused and didn’t know what was causing it as I am healthy, unstressed and have a history of low blood pressure. But as soon as I found this site it all started coming together and I realized Yasmin had done much more than raise my blood pressure. I immediately went off the pill and almost right away many of my side effects went away. Here's what I've experienced since being on the pill:

-Weight Gain: Almost right away I gained ten pounds. I’ve effortlessly lost five of those pounds since going off the pill.
-Seborrheic Dermatitis: After a few months of being on Yasmin I developed a painful scalp condition called Seborrheic Dermatitis. Side effects of this are inflamed scalp, redness and most importantly, hair loss. The doctor said it is generally brought on by stress but on further research I saw that it is also caused by hormones, so it wasn’t a stretch for me to realize Yasmin might be the culprit once I saw this site. Over the last couple years I’ve been using all sorts of prescription shampoos to make the problem go away and nothing helped. But as soon as I went off the pill my scalp condition cleared in only a month without the use of shampoos.
-High Blood Pressure: Before I went on the pill my BP was about 100/70. During the time I took Yasmin my BP slowly climbed to above 140/90. Within two weeks of going off the pill my BP was back down to pre-Yasmin levels.
-Irregular Heart Beat: After about a year and a half of being on the pill I started to suffer from seriously irregular heart beat which went away immediately after I got off Yasmin.
-Hyperpigmentation: I know any birth control can cause this but none of them ever have until I went on Yasmin at which point it sprung up all over my face. I’m hoping the dermatologist can clear it up now that I’m off the pill.
-Tightness in Chest: Happened around same time as irregular heartbeat and is now gone.
-Anxiety: I’m not sure I can blame Yasmin for this one since going off Yasmin has not caused it to go away. But enough posters on this site mentioned it as a side effect and it wasn’t a problem for me pre-Yasmin, so I wanted to mention it.
-Irritability: I’m generally easy going and don’t let the little things bother me, but as soon as I went on Yasmin everything started to bug me. Now that I’m off Yasmin I’ve been in a much better mood.

If anyone is on this pill or thinking about going on it, I implore you not to. Too many risks especially since there are so many other pills out there that don’t have many side effects. I mean, there are close to 5,000 postings on this site, mostly against this pill while if you search the web there are almost no other pills that generate this kind of attention. That alone tells me something. I hope the makers of the pill pull it from the market immediately or doctors stop recommending it.

My 9 year old daughter got her first shot in Dec. 2008 and her second in Feb. and the last in June. We have have been to the doctor a lot of times due to headaches with the doctor's opinion being that it's "allergies". She is now on allergy shots with still no relief from the headaches. I listened to her pediatrician and got her the shots. I feel so bad now after reading all the problems others are having with this vaccine. She also has had a change in her attitude aggression, moodiness, cries often, and she says she's depressed. If anybody has any suggestions for us please let me know. I love my little girl and know I'm worried.

Nausea, fatigue, dizziness, excessive hunger, yeast infection, and EXCESSIVE moodiness and irritability since starting this pill.
I was on yaz for 2 years, and another pill before that, all with minor to no side effects. Got pregnant on yaz, mysteriously, NO missed or late pills. Had an immediate miscarriage, started Reclipsen, had an immediate yeast infection- within a week of starting had all the other side effects, and have gained 4 pounds. I am getting married in three weeks. All this birth control/pregnancy madness is NOT what I wanted to be dealing with right before my wedding! not to mention, i am being a complete bitch to my wonderful fiance.

I had the Mirena inserted in November 2007 after having my third child. The first 6 months I had bleeding everyday. The insertion was painless. For the last year I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with me. I really didn't pay much attention to it until about 4 months ago when I started having anxiety attacks. I figured it was due to stress of a new job. I have been so tired that I can barely function. I have no interest in even leaving the house. It is even hard to come to work everyday because I am exhausted. I don't sleep well. I wake up soaking wet from sweat. I have a lot of joint pay in my legs, arms, and hands. My arms stay numb most of the time. I too experience the moodiness and I can sit and cry over nothing. I have experienced hair loss since having the Mirena. As far as sex drive it is nonexistent, even if it was there I would be too tired to even do anything. I have blurry vision sometimes. I have gained so much weight it isn't funny. I thought maybe my thyroid was out of wack so I went to the doctor for blood work. My blood work came back great. After researching some more I found this site and apparently Mirena is the cause of my problems also. I go to my GYN doctor tomorrow for my annual exam and I am going to request that the Mirena be removed. I have three children 15,10, and 22 months so I can not live my life like this. I am glad that I found this website and I plan to pass it along for those women that are having problems that they may be blaming other things for. If you have the Mirena you definitely need to read this site. I'll keep everyone posted once the Mirena is removed.

So i have been on Yasmin for over a year now and recently i have been really moody! To the point I miss the old me and i am putting relationships at risk. I ran out of the pill for 6 days last month and those 6 days i felt normal and it was refreshing! Do any of you happen to know why the pill would suddenly cause the moodiness! I really am no too moody... but recently its annoying! The only reason i want to stay on is b/c i like my skin and lite periods!

I am 26 years old and I've had the Mirena for two years. I ended up getting it because my doctor told me it was so much more convenient than taking the pill and more affordable. In the beginning, I felt okay but after awhile, I started feeling nauseous and sick all the time. Six months ago, I started bleeding for a couple of weeks straight, but I figured that it was due Mirena and the effects of it with menstrual cycles. Just to be safe, I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive and I was planning on going setting an appointment to see my doctor, only to have to rush to the E.R. later that night with killer cramps. I found out I had an ectopic pregnancy (I never had an ectopic pregnancy nor has any of my family members) and had to go in for a laparoscopy. I asked the doctor in the E.R. if Mirena should be removed and he simply replied that there was no need to. I had severe depression for a couple of weeks afterwards. I thought I felt awful with my usual symptoms of Mirena, but then the symptoms got even worse. I began experiencing dizziness, irregular cycles, a total weight gain of 20 pounds (I've never had a weight problem and my diet never changed), and extreme moodiness. After all the things I've experienced and now having to worry that Mirena will only increase my chances of having another ectopic pregnancy, I really look forward to my appointment in getting Mirena removed!

Does anyone here ever had any tingling issues? I had total thyroidectomy in Feb. 2009. Felt good the first month or two and have gone down from there! Some days are good, some are bad. Never know from day to day how Im going to feel! I started out for about a month and a 1/2 on 125 levothyroxin.....then my doc lowered it to 100.......as of July 14th, Im now taking .88. The tingling Im getting is all over my body, different places, here and there. Ive had some heart rate issues for a couple of months now too and finally had my regular doc send to me see a heart doctor.
Thought maybe the tingling could be from low calcium.....it was normal, CBC was normal, ECHO was normal.....waiting on the holter test results right now. The heart doc gave me a prescription for Toprol. I told him I wasn't going to take it cuz sometimes my heart feels like its barely beating and Im afraid it will make it worse. Im glad I didn't get it! Ive read of too many side effects.
Palpitations, kinda fast heart beat with pounding.....sometimes it feels likes its barely beating! Most of this occurs when first laying down......every now and then while sitting, etc. I do not exercise.....and should but just don't find the time. I switched jobs around the time I found out I had several nodes on each side of my thyroid. I was getting tired a lot and just thought i worked too much. I went from a physical job to a sit down, 12 hour, graveyard shift. Since the surgery, Ive felt it more. Im tired of feeling like crap all the time......I was already going thru some perimenopause stuff before all of this! Before I ever found out about my thyroid, I did have real light pounding of heart when laying down and tingling every blue moon, but very mild as well.
Now with no thyroid.......and medicines with all the side effects......IM GOING NUTS!!! Right now the moodiness and tingling are whats bothering me the most. Some days Im really tired, others Im ok. My body gets hot off and on, no fever. The past 3 days my calves, feet, and ankles have started to swell........never before! Plus I get some throbs and pains in my legs and arms and under my arms here and there. I probably need a new doc and I change of medicine......but Im afraid.
For one, Ive decided to go back to a physical job........and hopefully it wont screw with my heart rate even more. Ive read up on tingling........Im guessing maybe its from all the damn stress since my calcium was normal. Does anyone here have any suggestions?????

Me too ladies!!! I had the Mirena put in about a year ago and couldn't put my finger on why I'm always feeling bloated and irritable. I also take Lexapro for moodiness and it always seemed to work great. Then, my husband and I realized that I always seem gloomy these days. I just looked up the side effects of the Mirena just to see if it might have something to do with it and I ran across ALL of these comments! Holy cow! I'm not alone! Guess what I'm doing tomorrow.... calling my doctor to get this "mood killer" taken out! I want be happy! And not bloated!!! Oie!

All I can say is wow.

I just had the Mirena removed this morning, because it hurt while having sex. (Nothing like a sharp pain in there to spoil the mood). Also and I may be the only one who feels like this, but I really disliked not having a period at all. Just didn't sit right with me.

My doctor was very understanding, and he said that the Mirena seemed like it wasn't all it was supposed to be. He said that their practice is removing more and more of them because of complaints about the side affects, pain during sex, moodiness, and others.

I decided to look and see what the "other" side effects were, and what I am reading is such a relief. I have been having severe facial acne, and back acne. Low sex drive (went from three times a week to once every two weeks) I have felt really tired and moody, but I thought maybe that was due to having a 18 month old daughter. I am so happy that I may be myself again soon...and happy that I am not going crazy. I will definitely tell everyone I know to stay away from Mirena.
