Prescribed Avelox 400 mg for 10 days, to combat sinusitis and lung congestion bordering on pneumonia. Dr. suggested taking it with Mucinex to increase impact on sinuses. Took first pill Monday, 4/13 and didn't have any unexpected side effects. Took 2nd pill Tuesday morning along with Mucinex, pretty much on an empty stomach, with too little liquid. I was having slight headaches, jitters, mild inability to focus, and some buzzing in my ears. After a few hours, I thought it would be safe to take an Aleve to work on the headache. BAD MOVE on my part. Within 10 - 15 minutes, I was violently ill, vomiting everything from an essentially empty stomach. I called my Dr. but he didn't return my call for a few hours. When we talked, I related the episode, and he advised that we should change medications. As we talked, I thought that maybe I had not been careful enough. Maybe there was a magnifier effect from the Avelox, the empty stomach, too little water, the Mucinex, and then adding the Aleve to the mixture. Bottom line, we decided that I'd take it again today, and be careful to avoid the combination issue. So far, it seems to be working. I'm still experiencing the buzzing ears, slight agitation/nervousness, and slight headache, but nothing scary.
There is one thing, though, that also concerns me. I have a recurring inflammation of my right Achilles heel tendon, and this illness or drug treatment brought it on big-time. My right Achilles is extremely painful and is throbbing like crazy. I normally take a Motrin (anti-inflammatory) and it goes away, but I'm not taking a chance with that until I stop the Avelox. My Patient Prescription Information makes a big deal about possible Tendon damage for those over 60, and I'm just about there.
Interesting counter-effect is that instead of not being able to sleep, I slept much better even after the first pill.

Thank you for this site...although it is too late being I already poisoned myself with my 1st dosage - I know better now to STOP TAKING THIS DRUG IMMEDIATELY.
31 y/o male - non smoker - In good overall health.
What happened...(brief history of what got me to the point of being prescribed this horrid drug)
I caught a cold a few days after drinking quite heavily at a wedding (Aprox 1 month ago). It was severe enough for me to take a trip to this new doctor that is in my network and nearby (how I wish I could use my old family doctor that is out of network).
Symptoms then were congestion in my head and upper chest, cold sweats, runny nose. The doctor told me to take some over the counter stuff and try to fight it off w/ Mucinex, and Zyrtec - and lots of liquids. If that didn't work, he asked me to return.
It took about 5 days, and I seemed to kick the cold.
Approximately 2 weeks went by where I was feeling fine, then it seemed as if I was coming down with something again. (Last Thursday was when I started feeling ill)
I think what brought it on this time was breathing in excess dust at work opening some skids of paper in our warehouse.
Anyhow, this time around I had a pretty serious cough, felt feverish, and fatigued.
Sunday morning I woke up and took two Mucinex to break up the cough (which work great by the way)...and I hacked up something awful enough to call my doctors emergency line and have him paged. I was ready to go to the ER. It wasn't just phlegm or mucas - it was a soild mass of lord knows what containing blood. It look like an organ from a small critter.
Doctor said to keep taking the Mucinex and if I didn't feel better to come see him.
The coughing got worse on Monday, and the mucus I was spitting up wasn't pretty.
I went to see him yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) and he said its time to start you on an antibiotic and diagonsed me with an Upper Respiratory Infection.
He gave me Avelox, and Advair, and I asked for some of the good cough syrup w/ the codeine. He also sent me for a chest X-ray.
I got home around 4pm, made some food, then took some syrup and tried the advair.
I waited to take the Avelox til later on in the evening so I could set up a routine as I work nights and 9pm would be good.
I took the Avelox, around then, along with another dose of the cough syrup.
Around 1 hour later I felt extremely nauseous. I would burp, and feel almost ready to vomit...it was my body rejecting this horrible drug. The nausea came and went, came and went - then I got tired.
I laid down around 11pm and then the REAL trouble started. I must have fell asleep for about 30 mins, then woke up suddenly gasping for air...It felt like my heart was about to stop. I sat up in the bed panicked. I then got a little nervous, but calmed myself down, drank another glass of water and tried to fall back asleep. Sure enough just as I was about to drift off, the same sudden feeling of my breathing or heartbeat was interrupted and I sat up again. I had tingling in my chin area and in my arms. Walking to the bathroom I felt slightly disoriented and dizzy, and my legs and whole body felt weak. I also started getting itchy in my legs and groin area. Now I'm scared to go to sleep so I come to the computer and started researching this Avelox. It's 3:30 am now as I'm writing this. I looked at this site and http://www.fluoroquinolones.org/ before decided to post my experience.
I am still very itchy, slight nauseous, and feel disoriented. I'm scared to lay down to sleep now, but hopefully that will wear off soon - but I feel very nervous, uncontrollably. I almost want to induce vomiting to maybe get out any of the drug that is left in my stomach, but hate vomiting.
I will not take another dosage of this Avelox, no matter what this doctor tells me...and will give him a piece of my mind for prescribing this instead of something like ammoxocillin or just penicillin.

I have three children who were all taking Singulair and also Zyrtec. My oldest, 11 year old son has been on these medications since he was diagnosed with chronic Asthma at age 3. The aggressive behavior, bad dreams, leg cramps (growing pains, we were told),head aches and stomach aches were all explained as age appropriate for a 3 year old boy. As he grew older, he would say he wished he or one of his siblings were dead. Yes, the Singulair
along with a Flovent inhaler controlled his Asthma wonderfully. We have never had to take him to the ER. However, after hearing in the News about the Singulair, I have done a lot of research. I have not given him either of these meds for a month now. He does still use the Flovent. After not having any Asthma attacks for about a year now, we were hoping he was out growing it. So, I guess it was good timing. And then the trees started blooming and the pollen is everywhere. Son gets congested, coughing up lots of thick, green mucus. I treated him with Children's Mucinex mini-melts, benadryl, and sudafed. It helped that it was Spring break and I could treat ever 4 hours. He needed the nebulizer a total of about 6 times for the entire week. Today, he was mucus free. As for his behavior, he still acts like a typical 11 year old boy, but has been less aggressive and mean towards his siblings.
My daughter age 10 has been on Singulair and Zyrtec for unknown allergies off and on for about 5 years now. They did seem to help, but once again we had unexplained behavior. At age 5 she told me she wanted to kill herself. The school counselor said she must have heard it on TV.Bad dreams, headaches, mean to brothers (above the normal sibling rivalry thing), mean to me, leg cramps, stomach pains, itching all over. Many times, too many to count, she would be moody and go into fits of rage. When asked what was wrong, she would cry and cry that she didn't know. Been off for a month, and less rage. Actually playing nicely with younger brother. Recently, the pediatrician ran a lot of blood tests. Daughter complained that she hurt all over and she ran a low grade temp for 3 weeks. (less that 99.7) All tests came back fine. Last Monday, the fever went away and the aches are gone.
Now for the last, my 7 year old son has been off and on these two meds for about 5 years for severe allergies. Again, they did help. He did not react as badly as my other two children did. Leg cramps( which he still has nightly, just might be growing pains),headaches, and bad dreams are the only three I can think of right now. Anyhow, after hearing about the boy on the news, I got scared. Plain and Simple. My husband thinks this is a bunch of nonsense and everything can be explained. The Singulair was costing us a hundred dollars a bottle for a month supply for one child.
I am still watching my children very closely, especially my asthmatic. I still haven't told the pediatrician that I've taken them off the meds.

I have severe allergies. They are so bad, my ears hurt and I have massive headaches. I thought I had sinus problems as well. My new doctor said it wasn't sinus problems, but my allergies got worse. She put me on Singulair. It took a week for it to get in my system. It "worked" for about three. But I noticed I had an excessive amount of mucus. I was a mucus making factory. I was not sleeping through the night. I kept getting up, coughing, and spitting up clear, thin mucus. It was horrible. I started taking Mucinex and Pseudoephidrine HCI - but with no luck! My coughing was so bad, my eyes would hurt. I had terrible headaches. All this in a month. I was so dejected, I stopped taking everything but the Singulair. I was still going into fits of coughing! All day, all night - it was affecting my work (I'm a teacher - so I was constantly scaring the kids by erupting into a coughing fit that ended with me spitting up mucus and my eyes watering). My sister had been on Singulair and she told me one of the side effects was weight loss. I guess my coughing and spitting up mucus worried her; she looked at the side effects again. She told me two of the side effects were headaches and coughing. Needless to say, I've stopped taking it. I can't wait until it's out of my system and i can get a good nights sleep

Hello.
I was started on Prednisone on Saturday (3/15) for Bronchitis. So far I have taken 40mg, 40mg, 30mg, 30mg, 20mg, - I am to take 20mg for two more days than 10mg for three days. I also just finished a Z-Pack of antibiotics and am taking Mucinex and Ventolin HFA...
I have head pressure, dizziness, and weird visual disturbances. The problem I am having is my breathing feels WORSE on the Prednisone??? Is this possible??? I feel like I am losing my mind. I have insomnia and am extremely jittery. I have never taken Prednisone before - but want so badly to breath better - but it is not helping and in fact seems to making the problem worse?
Has this every happened to anyone? Please help I am so frightened.....
Thank you

I took this to try and help some rather chronic sinus congestion. I only took one or two doses (it was a few years ago), but became really ill. I have palpitations normally, so I didn't notice that. However, I was leeched of energy and ended up spending half the day vomiting or feeling like I had to. I was cold and clammy, which is extremely abnormal for me. According to my coworkers, I looked pretty darn bad. I somehow made the long drive home (I wouldn't recommend) and tried to sleep. Eventually I passed out for a good 8 hours, but still felt yucky the next day. Naturally, I haven't touched the stuff since. To be fair, these side effects are listed under the drug info (online), but who thinks they are going to be in the small percentage affected? Also, in response to an older post, it's NOT pseudoephedrine. It is the ingredient in mucinex and a decongestant similar to or found in the "new" crappy sudofed. I've been taking pseudoephedrine for years with no problems. Glad I found this! I thought I was the only one!

I have taken Levaquin 500 mg daily for the last 7 days. I am quitting it today! I am so tired. Cannot sleep! Have severe pain in both of my hips! I do not have a history of sleep disorder or hip pain!!! I even have severe pain in both of my shoulders now as well. My doctors insist this isn't from the med. My pharmacist differs in that opinion!! This stuff is POISON!!!
I am a registered nurse and will preach this to any and everyone who will listen!!!
I only pray I will not suffer a tendon rupture even after I have stopped this med! If that happens I will contact an attorney! Can we get a class-action lawsuit for all of us and to prevent others from this terrible experience???

Ive only been on Advair for almost a month. I couldn't believe how quickly my asthma disappeared. I was using my inhaler daily and tried other things but nothing helped. I went to a pulmonary specialist and prescribed Advair for a month. I'm so glad i have to go back and see him this Saturday b/c I want to tell him I will no longer take this. I'm 26 years old and had developed asthma when I was 7 years old. It went away when I was 14 and just came back full force 3 years ago. I would have tried anything to be able to breathe normally again.
I've had the hoarseness in my voice and a bad cough where I'm spitting up mucus everyday since I've been on Advair. I figured if this was what I had to live with to have the chance to live a normal life asthma free that id take it, it wasn't so bad. But this past week I've had blinding headaches non-stop. Ive been nauseous, sweating, coughing, I've been sore like I just finished a long workout, chest pains, tightness in my chest and my legs have felt so weak. This morning I woke up with the worst cold too; which I know Advair weakens your immune system but this is crazy. I stopped taking Advair this morning & I'm going to tell my doctor I need to try something else.

My doctor recently started a control treatment for my infrequent asthma. I am a 35 year old male, light smoker, with good blood pressure, good pulse.
Up until 3 weeks ago, I treated my infrequent asthma with an albuterol inhaler. The week before Halloween, I had developed bronchitis after trying to treat my asthma with Primatene Mist and Mucinex for a week.
She immediately put me on Augmentin, Advair (100/50mcg) Singulair (10mcg) and an albuterol nebulizer.
Last monday, I went to the hospital with chest pains. It felt like someone was grabbing my chest muscles and squeezing them. The 'cramps' for lack of a better word, went up into my neck specifically around my throat. I was dizzy, sweating, trembling suffering an anxiety attack and had a racing pulse. I was checked out by the nurse(still had good BP, high pulse) but could not breathe. I was given a nebulizer treatment, and the attack subsided.
On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, I had the same symptoms. It was so bad, I had to excuse myself from Thanksgiving dinner. I never felt this way before and know I could not be suffering a heart attack every day, all day so it has to be the medication.
I stopped the Advair Thursday night. By Friday, my appetite had returned and the tremors had deminished. I still took the Singulair.
Today, with just the Singulair, I still feel 'shaky' and out of sorts. I don't feel bad, but I don't feel 'well'. I have had a near constant headache all day and get dizzy when I stand up for long periods of time.
Tonight is my last night for the Singulair. I'll report back in a day or two to let you know how it's going.
On a good note, I haven't had an Asthma attack for 3 weeks now. I've just felt like crap ever since.

I went to the doctor complaining of a mild headache and being nauseous. After 5 days of taking this medicine (Sulfameth Trimethoprim) I am feeling 100% WORSE! This medicine has caused me to feel nauseous, moody, have severe headaches, loss of appetite, and my food all tastes like it has traces of lead in it. I was also prescribed Pseudovent along with a medicine to treat any yeast infection that might come as a side effect from the Sulfameth Trimethoprim. I am going to stop taking these medicines because I feel really bad. I wouldn't advise anyone to take these w/out seriously questioning your doctor about their side effects and any other options. I'll stick with Mucinex for any congestion and Tylenol Cold and Flu for those symptons.

I have had constant problems with my throat/tracheal area ever since using Advair over 9 months ago.
Symptoms began the first week of using Advair: Symptoms included loss of voice, thick phlegm, loss of gag reflex and itching/pulling at the back of the throat.
(AdVair usage was for 2 months only while it felt like all it did was collapse my lungs and make me unable to breathe more and more)
Symptoms for 2 months later included: Thick yellow/green or red/brown phlegm, constant rippig feeling at the back of my throat, supposed Sinusitis/Post-Nasal Drip, dryness of the mouth and constant loss of gag reflex (while pushing the back of my throat would help relieve the aching and pain)
Symptoms from months 3-9/Present: Pulling, pushing sensation at the back of the throat, terrible acidic taste in the morning as well as the taste of food during the day, constant popping & gurgling of the esophagus, uncontrollable burping, pain on the sides as well as the tops of the areas near my lungs, constant trouble breathing, dryness of the throat (warm water feels good for this-cold water only makes it worse), constant scratching/painful feeling on the back of the throat, a barbed wire feeling at the back of my mouth and Severe trouble sleeping.
Tests have included: Barium swallow, upper esophageal testing, the regular scope, the looking at my vocal cords and beginning of trachea through my nose, Bravo pH Test, CAT scan, 2 X-Rays, Prilosec, Zegerid, Levaquin, Mucinex, Moxomicillan, muscle relaxant and finally Reglan.
Ruled out diseases include: GERD, Post-Nasal Drip, Sinusitis and basically all other diseases of the esophagus.
Current diagnosis from around 7 different doctors: Unknown, try to take the Reglan and wash the back of your throat with Listerine.
What should I do? It's been 9-10 months now and no doctor knows what this is -- I will be posting this on any Advair side effects as well as Trachea/Esophageal site -- email is MistaLM@gmail.com, if anyone else has had the same side effects or for lawyer inquiries.

I was diagnosed with Influenza B and have been taking a coctail of Tamiful, Zpac, Mucinex, Claritin D, and Tynolel. Fevor broke after first dose, next day I felt good but on the 3 and 4th days I was experiencing a "high" like that of being on marijuana or alcohol. Not really a bad thing because I was not working or going to school, but still, a side effect.

I begun taking Lisinopril about 2 months ago. Was lightheaded at first for about 2 or 3 weeks but that side effect seemed to disappear. My blood pressure has never been better (from 170/105 to 98/65) but just as soon as my lightheadedness went away, I started developing a dry cough. I didn't think much of it at first as I have summer allergies and my husband had just gotten over a cold with a bad cough that lasted almost 4 weeks. I just figured I had caught his cold. But after 4 weeks passed and my cough just kept getting worse instead of better. Just like everyone else on this site, I have a horrible persistent cough that brings me to the point of tears and dry heaves many times during the day and night. I haven't had a good night sleep in I don't know how long and my poor husband suffers right along with me too.
I finally went to the doctor 2 weeks ago and was prescribed an antibotic for what she described as sinusitis. Well, after finishing my 2 weeks supply of antiboitic and Mucinex, my cough is worse than ever. Since my husband and ex-husband are both smokers, I started fearing the thought of lung cancer until I found this site. I was so relieved to find out that what I'm experiencing is like a carbon-copy of so many other unfortunate people on this drug. I called my doctor today and told her the antibiotics did nothing and that I was sure it was the Lisinopril. She advised me to stop taking it immediately and monitor my cough for 2 weeks and then go in to see her. I was relieved but also scared after reading other people who have been off this drug for up to a year and still have a horrible cough. I don't know what I'll do if this doesn't go away! It's having a terrible affect on my sleep and my job as I'm constantly having to put customers on hold while I hack my brains out.
I'll post any updates on my hopeful improvement after going off this horrible stuff!! Good luck and thanks very much to everyone out there who has shared their experiences! It really helps to know that it's not just you who is going through this misery!

I am a 37 y/o female who has had asthma since childhood. While chronic as a child, my asthma has been under control for the most part without maintenance medications since childhood. It has worsened over the past year. Tonight is my third night of taking Singulair. It seemed like a miracle drug the first two nights...I slept through the night (did not wake up and need my Proventil inhaler in the middle of the night like I have for the past 7 months). It is now 4:45am and I am up with wheezing, shortness of breath and increased phlegm. My chest feels so tight and heavy. I also took 600mg Mucinex (over the counter Guaifesin Expectorant) the past 3 nights as directed by my Asthma/Allergy doctor. When I first take the Singulair tablet each night, I feel somewhat dizzy and have a little nausea. I also notice water retention and beginning of weight gain already. I have also been more tired than usual, despite getting more sleep. I would put up with some of the side effects if the positive effects on my breathing would have lasted longer than 2 days. I feel like I need my Proventil again. I'm not sure whether I will continue the Singulair.

It seemed to calm the coughing and thin the mucous, but I actually had a better experience with the nock off from Walgreens, that also had a decongestant for the sinuses. I never had trouble holding my urine, but on Mucinex I would drip when I coughed. I am also constantly burping and have pain in my upper stomach, bad gas. I haven't taken it for at least 24 hours now but still have the burping and gas pains. Mucinex was the only thing I was taking other than a few aspirin.
