My mum has been taking Lescol 40mg. Now the doctor increased her dosage to 80mg. Now she is feeling discomfort in her mouth. Dry tongue, swollen tongue, gums, pain in the joints. are these side effects of Lescol?

Severe depression, personality change, suicidal thoughts, panic attacks. Acne on face and body, hair growth on face, red, blotchy skin, bloated face. Hair loss on head. Constant hunger, sugar and caffeine cravings. Constant feeling of cold, even in warm environment. Frequent urination, dry eyes and mouth. Greasy hair and skin. Muscle and joint pains. Raised blood pressure. All these symptoms began when I started taking Yasmin and have cleared up since I stopped taking it. Never again!

Sophie, Sarah, BitterRN,
so glad to see that you are here. And even if you think you couldn't help, believe me: YOU ALL DO IT alone with your encouraging words. Thank you so much for trying to help me not to loose hope again completely. It's relieving to see, that I'm not alone... Every single post of you three moved me to tears.
Sophie, yes, you maybe right. 5 years with Yasmin were definitely a long time, MUCH TOO long. And yes, perhaps I should have much more patience than others who have only been on this hellsent drug for a few months. That's what my mum and my husband also keep telling me every day. But it's so difficult to accept, that there always can be a setback after a time, where you feel pretty good (as I did for the past few weeks, or 2 - 3 months...). You just think "Well, it HAS to stay that way now and I have to be through that all for good!" And it's been such a long time without Yasmin and still everything in my body is so incredibly out of whack sometimes.... :(
And BitterRN, you are also right, hormones are fluctuating over the weeks and even month after month. I still felt that changes every 2 weeks (well, though never that heavy as I now do again.....). And your theory about the testosterone sounds more and more interesting to me. I was really wondering, why that first period about 3 months ago was that heavy and long and why the last two periods where that light (the second was nearly not there, just a kind of spotting for 3 days...) and short. Well, at the moment I've got that sore breasts again just like every time around the 20ieth until the end of a month. That always happened the last 3 months!! So I'm just wondering if my period or at least the spotting will come again too around starts of November......
Perhaps that bad cold was the reason for the testosterone to get low again (well, the immune system surely had to work very hard to fight against that virus and that may have caused an imbalance in other things again....).
But I really think I should have a hormonal test done and see, how my hormones might have changed in the meantime (last hormonal test was around June 2005....). Wish me the power to go to another doc..... I haven't visited any of them since June 2005! I was so done with all that senseless docs visits..... And I still don't have very much trust in them since I went through so much bad experiences with doctors in 2004/2005.....
My only hope is: The last time I had a cold (October 2004!) I still took the Yasmin and that DEFINITELY was the reason for my complete breakdown in December. So I just try to believe (and hope), that this time everything will be different and my now again upcoming muscle problems, the dizziness, tiredness and so on won't get worse and worse, because my body surely will get better in balance because there's nothing "disturbing" it anymore......
Sarah, yes, I've heard of that, too (things have to get worse, until they finally get better fo good) and I so much hope that you are right!!
Thank you again for being there and god's bless to you!! We HAVE to get through this and WE WILL!!!!!
If only there were a few women who have been on Yasmin as long as me or some who have been off Yasmin for longer than 1 - 2 years already... Is there anybody??? Would be so good to hear, how you all are doing!!
See and read you all soon!!
love,
Silke

I am writing regarding my mum. She is 73 years old. She attends hospital for a blood disorder and high blood pressure. She already takes Praxilene for blood disorder and Co-Amilozide for blood pressure. When attending hospital last year, she was told after further tests for cholesterol that the result was not high, however was prescribed Simvastatin 40mg 1xday. She has since developed muscle symptoms - so much so that often she is in pain and can barely walk. Also has swelling in legs. Has anyone else developed these symptoms?

My Mum took liptor for 2 weeks it almost killed her. Her muscles degenerated and her liver almost gave up. 2 years afterwards she is still suffering.
She has found relief by taking each day a teaspoon of a good quality powdered form of MSM, also powdered Noni.
She has also done a cleanse using 3 teaspoons of powder activated charcoal for 5 days. She also did a colon cleanse by taking one tablespoon for seven days of calcium bentonite clay and also pascalite bentonite clay.
She also cleanse her liver by drinking the juice of one organic lemon each morning one hour before food for seven days.
She drinks Naked\Odwalla carrot juice to help cleanse the blood and Naked\Odwalla Green Machine\Green Superfood, helps with pain and gives energy.
She also uses white willow and ashgawandha for pain and swelling.

Hi,
Im a mother of a 19year old onYasmin. she's bloated and has a tight stomach; but worst of all, she's had blood in her stools. Her friend has had the same thing and went off right away. has anyone else experienced such a thing? we aren't sure if it is the pill but I really don't like her being on such a toxic thing. Ive suggested other non-chemical birth control options.

Hey Lisa!!
Don't worry!! I understand your pain, because I went EXACTLY through the same thing!!
I remember myself asking my husband a thousand times "Oh my god, I feel like it's all coming back, I'm so afraid everything could get as bad as it was months ago..." and so on. And that happened around the same state as you are now!! And I also remember my mum and my husband always telling me "It won't come back, everything will be better again in a few days, it's just your hormonal imbalance." And I was so thankful for their words!!
And the best of all: They were right !! Evertime I was nearly about to despair (and that didn't happen only once during the very hard last year, but every few weeks!!), a few days further everything had gotten better again!!
It always helped me to remember, that it's all a hormonal thing and hormones are fluctuating over a month. And being on bcp for such a long time (during that time the hormones were constantly nearly on ONE level!) your body reacts to those natural hormone fluctuations more sensitive than before. Your system will gradually get used to that fluctuations again and you won't feel them in such a heavy way any longer!!
I'm 1 Year and 2 months without Yasmin now and still feel those fluctuations very often. But remember that I still didn't get my period again... (last one was on easter 2005.....). So I think in my case everything will be 100% back to normal and healthy again, when I'm finally getting my period.
I hope this helps and feel free to E-Mail me or post here again if you've got any further questions or jus need some pep talk!! I know how important that is, I needed it the same way one year ago!!!
Best wishes, god's bless and keep looking forward to better times Lisa, as hard as it may seem on some days!!!

lisa,
my progesterone was low yes and it was because of yasmin i was told... the pill stuffs up all your hormones...
you can take suppliments for it... i didnt only because my mum wasnt too keen on the idea of me putting anything else in my body lol... so i just let it pass on its own....
ask your doctor though because they can tell you what you should take.. i cant remember the name sorry darls...
also the palpitations stopped for me after 4 months... but i would have them everyday for that whole time... now i just get them when im ovulating or when im having my period....
it will ease up on its own i promise!! i know you maye feel like its never ending but ur body just needs to detox...
and remember i am always here along with the other girls to give you support ....
happy new year to you too

Phew! What a relief to find this board. Started on Lipitor a couple of months ago to reduce cholesterol, I asked the doc if he knew of any side effects before I took it and he said No one he knew on it had complained about any and he had a lot of patients on it. Well Doc, I must be your first because from feeling great in a matter of weeks I have calf muscle pain, flu like symptoms and a headache now for two weeks with pain like a migraine at times. My toes are always cold and tingly and I feel unwell all the time and very tired. As my mum used to say, if the medication your taking makes you feel worse, then stop taking it because the body is trying to tell you something. I would rather die early from high cholesterol than put up with this so will be stopping forthwith and maybe someone had better let the makers of this drug know what it is doing to people. I live in Australia by the way.

My mum has been taking Simvastatin 80mg for approx 2 years. Recently she has been told she has iron deficiancy aneamia. Could this be linked to the high dose of Simvastatin?
